  1. I hope you guys got loads of gil! I was planning on going but my schedule got tied up at the last minute.
  2. ASOIAF signature quote = win + She gives off a very warm and positive vibe whenever I read her posts. Ack sorry! I've been leveling my new Lala. I'm starting to become an alt hoarder
  3. Clio is super nice 'cause she was the first person to reach out to me when I first joined 8-)
  4. The reason for this may be that muns have ongoing storylines with these characters, and it's difficult to involve newcomers that wouldn't normally fit the narrative. These type of interactions are more extensive than your average walk-up, which is what you seem to have limited yourself to. Do you contact them (via whisper) before approaching? Are they AFK? Are they even IC? Chin up, OP. Seriously. I'm going to be completely frank. When I saw this thread in RPD with your name under the title, I'd already (accurately) guessed what it would entail. You've posted a lot in the past about not being able to find roleplay, and you've also limited yourself to only random encounters. This, mixed in with your shyness and your character's shyness, is curbing your chance for more interactions. You cannot place the blame on others for this. There is SO much potential for RP on Balmung, OP. I just honestly don't think you're seizing the opportunities laid before you. Are you in a FC? This thread you posted awhile back indicated you were looking for one, and a lot of members here extended themselves to you. Did you take any of them up on their offer? Like someone else mentioned, don't expect to get meaningful RP out of random walkup encounters. They're usually a tool to make contacts ICly, who you later elaborate storylines with. It honestly seems to me that people here have tried to reach out to you, but you turned them down due to your aversion to arrangements. Also, and I mean no offense when I say this; your character is a male Miqo'te. People will fail to notice you in a crowd because there are a gazillion. You need to make your character stand out more, and maybe make a wiki page or something. Anything to make him more distinctive. Otherwise he'll be faceless and people will be less inclined to reciprocate interest. My advice. Sorry if I'm coming on too strong. But after reading your threads I just don't think it's fair to project Balmung in a negative light due to, what seems like, your unwillingness to adapt.
  5. What did the buffalo say when her son left for school? //badum tsst
  6. I became curious after lurking the screenshots thread. How often do you change your character's outfit (when roleplaying)? Do you have a bunch of different glamours that you alternate from day to day? Or do you pretty much have one set outfit that you're mostly seen wearing IC? For now, Max has only two outfits. Once I get him to level 50 I'm sure it'll multiply. I'm the type that likes to change outfits every other day to keep things fresh. Also feel free to post screenshots!
  7. Ay mate, welcome! Feel free to add me IG (Max Hunter). I'll be on tonight (racing to level cap hah) but I'm almost always down for some interaction.
  8. I apologize in advance for missing the point but I have to ask... what does this rant have to do with the topic at hand?
  9. I don't see Miqo'te ever being dethroned. Maybe for a short while due to Au Ra being the new race and all, but I think in the long run people will still lean towards the cat boys/girls.
  10. I second that idea. Recently I've been trying to read up on some FFXIV lore for a new character, but it feels like it's scattered and I'm hopping around the web for tidbits. It would be convenient to have a dedicated section for lore and the like.
  11. Waifu Simulator-- I mean, Phantasy Star Online 2 and FFXIV are two very different games. Like you mentioned, the main draw of PSO2 is their character customization, and they dedicate a lot of time bringing in new outfits, hairstyles, and accessories every couple weeks. It's how they make the bulk of their money, being FTP and all. FFXIV doesn't need to take notes from PSO2 because PSO2's target audience is completely different. I'd also hate to see improved mechanics and bug-fixes not prioritized over money grab vanity.
  12. I'm OK with it for the most part, albeit a little disappointed with the lack of diversity. I agree with Unnamed Mercenary; if they're able to add new hairstyles all the time, then some eyebrows or new faces every once in awhile shouldn't be out of the question, I think. I played games like Aion where you could make a million different unique looks, yet the game was filled with deformed Gumby lookalikes. I'm glad FFXIV's character creation isn't like that.
  13. He'd yield immediately 'cause he's all talk and no action //sobs// "I won the auction, so I bid we go for a pleasant walk... to Castrum Centri..."
  14. If I wasn't so poor I'd make Max bid on Clio and drag her back to Ala Mhigo in cuffs 8-)
  15. He'd probably be disturbed by 'em and maybe a wee-bit curious. Like what Otto & Cuideag said, Max would cast them as beastmen (until proven otherwise). My unnamed Lalafell would be more forthcoming, I think. He'd probably hire a few as bodyguards based solely on their intimidating look.
  16. Actually Konami announced plans for a new Metal Gear game last month. Source. In a thinly-veiled response to yesterday's events, Konami today issued a press release through its Japanese website announcing its intention to develop a brand new Metal Gear series - and it wants to recruit a brand new team to build it (thanks to NeoGAF user duckroll for the translation).
  17. Huge MGS fan here. MGSV will be my final Metal Gear game, since it's Kojima's last. After he leaves I'm sure Konami will milk the series for all it's worth. I was bummed out when I read that Silent Hills was canceled, but I sorta expected it with how everything has been panning out for the last several months.
  18. Hey! Feel free to add Max if you ever want a twerp to stir trouble with
  19. I actually like what I'm seeing, although I'll probably never make one. One thing that's bothering me is the texture of the scales. It's all.. low quality blurry looking. I hope they look less cruddy come Heavensward.
  20. I'll look out for her IG! Max sometimes needs some sketchy business done by proxy :tonberry: . . .just don't be surprised if he stiffs her out of a promised payment -- he ran out of gil months ago.
  21. Welcome! If we're ever on at the same time feel free to poke me for some interaction!
  22. I'm more inclined towards plot-based roleplays, but not when things get too scripted. I like a good solid premise to start off with and then we give our characters the reins. Slice of life roleplays can be a little too stagnant for me. But like what OP said in his final paragraph, there is definitely a time and place for them.

    Howdy

Hey fellow newbie! I consider Max to be chaotic neutral as well. Hit me up ingame anytime if you wanna play!
  24. from a roleplay character perspective >> There are a lot of things that could contribute to popularity. I'd like to think that to garner it around here you'd have to have a well-written, appealing character with distinctive qualities that draws others to want to roleplay with you. Also being active within the community. With that said, I'd rather someone rp with me because they want to as opposed to them feeling the need to. This is my perspective as a newcomer in response to the implication that 'newbies are constantly being ignored'. I honestly can only speak for myself, because everyone has different experiences, but I have to look at both sides of the coin here. I'll use my connections thread as an example. 267 views, 10 responses. Clearly a fair share of rpers peeked into the thread, yet only a handful responded. Why is that? I have to accept that Max didn't appeal to every single lurker. We're roleplaying for fun and excitement, not due to obligation to others. I think the biggest, if not main drawback of being a newbie is being apprehensive to approach others for roleplay, and you sorta just wish that everyone would just come to you and guide you along. Sometimes it's just not that easy. You're gonna have to try and try. Attend IC events, do walk-ups in the Quicksand, whisper characters asking if they'd fancy a quick interaction. I know this is hard for introverted/shy types, and believe me I know rejection hurts like a bitch, but you'll find your people soon enough. And if at this point you're STILL having trouble finding RP, then you might want to re-evaluate your character and maybe ask others for some constructive criticism. from a forumer perspective >> Personality, the way they present themselves, etc. Maybe they're a hella good artist that you admire. Eitherway people are naturally drawn to the like-minded. As for cliques >> When you go through the trials of a new character and you finally find some roleplayers with similar tastes who you've formed bonds and storylines with, it's understandable that you're more drawn to them than to strangers. I completely get it. But with that said, I can see where Graeham Ridgefield is coming from when he says cliques can also have a negative side-effect on a community. If (most) people get so holed up into their exclusive cliques, then it'll leave a very daunting and inhospitable impression on newcomers. "Why bother? There is no place for me."
