Madness. I find running into people and chatting away IC can bring some great roleplay, especially when you run into folk on a similar wavelength. It seems only natural characters would do this and I certainly wouldn't worry about 'disturbing' pre-planned roleplay if two characters are talking and your character stumbles in. If I'm roleplaying in Ul'dah I'm almost expecting people to strike up conversations with my characters regardless of what they may be doing! Its always best to observe maybe one or two posts from the roleplay you're planning to step into so you are aware of whats going on. If they are involved in an event you'll notice in which case its polite just to drop one of them a tell to ask if its alright to join in and get up to speed (Especially DM events where there may be several fictional characters all over the place and you accidentally walk straight through 5 of them unawares). I wouldn't let being a new roleplayer put you off, either let them know you're new or just sink your teeth in and any mistakes you make (eg lore) just play off your character having a moment. The best way to make contacts is to quite simply throw yourself out there, anyone who finds it rude you're trying to roleplay with them is quite honestly not worth the time. PS: This threads title is misleading :cactuar:

balmung Looking For Role-play!

I'm not roleplaying with you, I'm roleplaying at you / Standards
Rusty Knight replied to Meishali's topic in RP Discussion
Meishali y u post threads liek this all the time 1111 - How do you handle these situations? Are you patient? I'm patient to a degree; but when it reaches the point you are literally throwing hooks left right and centre just trying to fish a decent conversation sparking response from a character I'll try have my character disengage as soon as it seems reasonable in the roleplay. Not a cut and run but usually they grow tired of a one sided conversation rapidly anyway. Bonus: When people roleplay their IC pets instead of actually talking too, man that gets tiresome quickly. I try get out of those situations ASAP if they seem reluctant to actually roleplay the character. - Am I a little too ungrateful? I shouldn't ask for 'that much' from people? you horrible person But seriously each to their own in the world of roleplay, I roleplay with people I enjoy roleplaying with and talking to a brick wall is no fun. As such when my characters encounter folk like you describe I simply make it a mental note not to actively seek them out for any further arpe. - How do you make sure your RP never runs out of 'meat'/material to play with? Do you bring in new items, like a Limsan axe? (I personally like to give my characters different moods from time to time, headcanon happenings, to get new things to discuss. Though the previous RPs I had with other characters are usually enough) I think moods and headcanon is the most important things to make sure I never run out of roleplay material, sometimes having a character behave in a different mood can spark a conversation just from that let alone the background into why they are in the mood itself. Headcanon wise our characters live in a vast everchanging world, with exception to Alueaux all my characters fit the adventuring category and never have trouble finding a good story as to what they've been up to lately. I think changing scenery often is important too; I'm a fan of ping ponging the RP location back and forth between my regular contacts, keeps you on your toes and sometimes lets you find some true gems and throws event ideas in your face. Ultimately though its creativity and not burning myself out on a character, I just make a never ending stream of events no matter how small and try to RP with new people frequently to keep things turning. - Got RP standards? What are they? What do you want/expect from people RPing with you? No OOC in /say /em. Unfortunately its a little pet habit I bring from my past roleplaying MMO's but it really seems to kill my mood for arpe, the same as long ooc conversations while things are ongoing, knocks me out of character fairly rapidly. Other then that, a decent level of English, healthy amounts of text (Not to be confused with endless fluff in emotes to make them bigger) and work from the otherside to help things along, if I'm putting effort in I want to know the other side is putting effort in. Oh and lore abidey-ness. I'm all for slightly 'Out there' characters but ones that make no sense, blatantly abuse lore gaps or specul warrior of light allowances to play certain things grind my gears. -
Scarlet (An Adventurer) could certainly run into Zana'tan, she spends the majority of her time working guildleves so has been around about everywhere giving the chance to run into him in a quiet inn or the likes outside the major cities and hubs. Give me a tell ingame sometime! Character is "Scarlet Heath"

Spatial recognition isn't quite the sixth sense, to my knowledge its the whole "If I fold this paper ten times in a special way and stab a hole in it when I open it'll form a perfect star" or the likes. Likewise the pictures of lots of cubes together and if you rotated it what it would look like. Not going to lie I'm pretty vague on what it means exactly but its something looked for in aircraft pilots (Especially fighter pilots) and architects so on. I guess this would mean Au Ra have the added natural ability when it comes to craftsmen and might take to things like Magitek engineering/Piloting easier. Easiest way would be just to google Spatial Recognition and see. As for protecting the ears, essentially an Au Ra's horns are part of their skull and any damage done to them I would guess is the same as having a drill shoved down your ear canal in terms of pain. I imagine even tapping them too hard or hitting them against an object could result in disorientation for a short while and would say Edgar's thoughts on them being filled with something or hollow are very accurate, I'd lean more towards hollow though. I doubt there is a way for them to protect against noise attacks besides having something wrapped physically around their horns, with an enhanced level of hearing any sort of noise attack would naturally be more deafening and rehabilitating then on a race with less sensitive hearing.

I too come from cerebrus and can say hand on heart I wouldnt go back for a slightly better connection, despite my internet being terrible the 300ms delay seems to be big enough to negate most of its effects and the level of support for the roleplay community and amount of roleplaying avaliable here is vastly different then Cereberus. If your main intention is roleplaying I think Balmung is the place to be. If your connection is making it completely unplayable try looking into how to improve it, I know updating my ancient router ect made all the difference (plus the 20ft internet cable running through my house now). All depends on what you prioritise, personally I'm happy to deal with occasional lag for whats on offer here.

Roegadyn got my vote. Come be friends with Scarlet, plus its fun being twice the size of everyone.

Relian I am disappointed by the lack of a poll in this thread. I believe you've mislead everyone who has read it and you owe us all compensation we are due to this scandalous act.

Welcome to the RPC ! Hit me up on Leoric or Scarlet Heath sometime for some arpe.
-
Wildwood Elezen, Ishgardian for Dragoon if you want to be lore accurate to how the job is advertised, there are a few Ishgardian FCs, the Ishgard RP linkshell is a highly active linkshell to get into. For paladin Roegadyn are the posterboy race and certainly have a lot of flexibility in backgrounds giving you all manner of roles to play, especially a freepaladin! Also welcome to the RPC! Give me a poke ingame if you ever want some roleplay!
-
I level my main classes for roleplay so Scarlet is a Warr, Alueaux Dragoon and Leoric a Monk. Then everything else is what I enjoy or if I'm looking for specific outfits or sets then I'll do that, ultimately pve is secondary.

You may be waiting a while for Balmung to open! Its practically locked down 24/7 at the moment. Welcome back though:)

balmung Joint RP Search: A Hunter, A Bard, A Priest
Rusty Knight replied to Meishali's topic in Chronicled Connections
/throws Leoric and Scarlet at the trio (Leo and Nathaniel would be fun) I've been hunting for some more open world roleplay rather then city confines and would be interested in throwing either of these two at it, Scarlet is an Axe wielding adventurer (Hellsguard) while Leo is more old school Ala Mhigan being a Fist of Rhalgr. Come to think of it why didnt I just poke you all ingame .. ah well bump for some awesome folk even if I never actually manage to catch them at the right times! -
Welcome! If you fancy meeting a Ala Mhigan monk or Hellsguard Merc hit me up anytime!
-
Prepare to have all your non-heretical Ishgardians (The 1%*) rekt by having their faith ripped away from them. The excitement to see what happens in Ishgard is real. In a way I'm kind of hoping the entire system in Ishgard begins to crumble when everyone finds out the Noble houses aren't really that noble but I also guess the Church will be trying to twist the story into something they can ride out. Me right now... *not statistical data

Lo' all, My 48 Y.O Ala Mhigan, Leoric Blackdale is looking for more connections, contacts, training companions, drinking partners so on. He's a flexible character so open to all types of encounters! A fully trained temple monk; he now engages in mercenary work alongside the occasional leve for the adventurers guild and always has an excuse to be in any watering hole, or pretty much anywhere across Eorzea. Don't hesitate to get in touch and we can work from there, Drop me a PM, tell ingame or a post down below and I'll get in touch!

Perhaps including a link to your FC page would give it more views? I can only speak for myself but I'm much more likely to look at something if all I need to do is click a link rather then search for something out of curiousity.

Seeking "new past connections"
Rusty Knight replied to Canis Latrans's topic in Chronicled Connections
I have a 48 Y.O Ala Mhigan Fist of Rhalgr who would be more then happy to share some of his past for the price of a few drinks, name is Leoric Blackdale. Unfortunately he doesn't have a Wiki, but I'd be happy to provide detail it if required! -
From what we see ingame and from the HW Trailers there appear to be at least three variations of the Anti-Dragon cannons Ishgard uses. Dragonkillers: Appear to be smaller in size and rather then firing projectiles that remain tethered to the emplacement pack a deadly punch akin to firing a lance at the target packed full of explosives and propelled by ceruleum. (As seen in the Steps of Faith) Tethered Dragonkillers: Much larger emplacements that fire Dragonkiller projectiles that are either connected via chains or heavy line with the intention of either downing the dragon in the first shot or ensnaring it with the line to then pull it down like a harpoon. If you actually look at the ones in Ishgard it appears as if they are designed to lance the target then drag it down onto the emplacement which is coated by eight or ten fixed lances to finish it (Rather grim if you think about it) As seen in both the trailer and ingame on the various Ishgardian fortifications eg Dusk Vigil, Stone Vigil and Ishgard. Snares: Most likely not a cannon in the sense of Dragonkillers the concept of being able to wrap chains around a creature like Vishap must involve some form of projectile or shot in order to get chains that must weigh a tonne up and over a moving dragons head. Admittedly the reasons for the SOF Dragonkillers being smaller and not tethered compared to the ones mounted on the major fortifications may just be gameplay reasons, but if you compare the size of the one mounted to the gatehouse to the ones on the towers they are certainly different sizes. Considering the forces a dragon flying around in the air would pull the moment it took up the 'Slack' I imagine nothing short of very sturdy foundations is going to keep your Dragonkiller attached to the floor and bridge towers may not cut it so they get the smaller brother version. Woops... considering the first question I think I may of gone on a tangent a little. But yes I imagine a combination of Ceruleum and black powder is used on all of their 'Anti-Air' features, due to the differing quality of the propellant I'd hazard a guess only Ishgard proper and its major outposts have Ceruleum firing Dragonkillers due to supply while the rest get Black powder or just Bertha's and snares. Its evident alone with the different styles of Dragonkillers between the city and everywhere else.

Unfortunately character design often doesn't help with being the 'driving' force behind interactions. Many people roll introverted characters (I've done so myself despite normally being the opposite with my characters) and it simply begins to dig a hole that they slowly descend into and very rarely climb out of. Even worse are characters who are so hostile to random roleplay they put people off interacting with them. (Guilty...) Its often the fear of failure that prevents people from getting involved or creating events or the unwillingness to try, I used to run the role of Storyteller permanently and unless you had NPC's literally drag some characters out of their hovels people would simply watch an event pass on by on the idea that they might interrupt or ruin it by participating. (Something I've never seen happen unless its active griefing.) People feel an awkwardness to suddenly engaging with strangers and its understandable; no amount of roleplay taverns will change that fact, even I still get some pre-roleplay jitters on occassion. Only by taking the plunge and posting that first emote asking for directions, commenting on their attire or even just saying hello will those nerves begin to fade. TL;DR Life is too short to be standing about waiting for arpee to come to you, go get it. Failing that find Heath and I'll pounce you.
