Lots of confusion, an initial market crash followed by a slow stablisation and lots of negotiations to sort out the departure of the United Kingdom from the EU. There is no change in day to day stuff for now, until the UK activates the treaty (and for two subsequent years after the day we activate it) to depart the EU we still abide by all the same regulations and rules that we were bound by before the vote. How our government handles this however will be the biggest question. Our chancellor has effectively threatened to implement a 'Punishment' budget which includes tax hikes and major cuts; although the chance of him getting this through parliament is effectively nil. For me personally? I can expect my savings to depreciate to a degree due to the Stirling taking a dent in the short term however other than that its keep calm and carry on. Its way too early to start calling anything though; our prime minister hasn't even emerged from No10. Until the flames die down no one knows where its headed and to what extent in the future things will change.

Looking for fellow Dragoons and Ishgard RP
Rusty Knight replied to Eren's topic in Chronicled Connections
Fixed that for you  I've an Ishgardian Knight lurking about who may be of interest for you, still working out his character properly but it would be great help filling in the blanks to get some more roleplay on him. Hit me up on Scarlet Heath as its the character I most often sit about on and we can sort things! -
UK player here, will I be able to play decently on Balmung?
Rusty Knight replied to sarpynom's topic in Welcome Desk
UK Roleplayer here. Your main challenges are: - The vast majority of events are past midnight. The EU roleplay scene is quite large however so there are a few EU events kicking about plus many that happen without being advertised. Some American events which are reeeeeeaaaally non-EU friendly happen about 4am. When we move into summertime (UTC+1) it gets worse. - The number of EU Roleplaying FC's. There are a few about but you may find your choices limited depending on what character you decide to play. - If your internet is a little on the poor side you can encounter lag during PVE content and large events; although the long global cooldown certainly mitigates it and its completely unnoticeable for me. -
[Poll] Job, Class or I Can't Be Labeled Yo
Rusty Knight replied to Knight Kat's topic in RP Discussion
I'm hev guilty of playing IC Jobs. Scarlet definitely falls into the IC Job option; she hails directly from the Spine and her abilities are literally what we see in terms of mechanics and fluff for the Warrior Job. The emphasis for her was being able to explore the entire gameworld ICly, with an Adventurer character who can actually defend herself, thus she is rather OP for the day to day stuff. Alueaux again is an IC Job, Ishgardian Dragoon born and bred and does nothing but kill dragons for a living and screw with whores in secret. The intentions were to use him to dive into the political/militaristic Ishgard roleplay but sadly it never seemed to materilise how I envisioned; soon to be mothballed for a new character. Leoric is a temple trained Fist of Rhalgr from Ala Mhigo, being old enough to actually be a proper fist and having actual first hand experience of fighting with others before the fall. A bit like Scarlet for the day to day stuff he is too OP but his character means a lot of his power and ability is never really used, more like a docile tiger. Ironically he rarely fights too. Soon I'm going to get more involved in playing classes rather than jobs; with jobs being so overpowered (Especially when you play them as experienced) it can nullify event/RP options unless you have IC friends of equal or greater abilities. Take for example any of the characters above, none of them would have much difficulty taking down some powerful foes provided they were suited to it. (EG Dragoon for Dragon, Humanoids for Monk, anything that she can reach for Scarlet.) -
"Dark" Roleplay: When a character/player is happy to participate in roleplay involving elements that traditionally you might not include (Eg Rape(not to be mistaken for actually roleplaying -the- rape), Torture and other controversial/graphic events which if thrown around could possibly cause distress to someone) out of courtesy to other players who do not wish to be exposed or involved in that subject. "Mature" Roleplay: From the communities I come from this is pretty much a more classy way of saying I engage in erotic roleplay. Personally I don't use either, the roleplay tag is enough and I discuss with people OOCly if a roleplay is leading towards something I think should be mentioned to confirm they are happy to continue.

http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=13219&highlight=dragoon+lore This thread when you filter through it has some good content and links worth reading. Have a filter through the search bar for some more threads similar. My question is, is your character a dragoon (IE has killed a dragon) or a Dragoon (The elite knights of Ishgard who can leap vast distances onto the dragons midflight)? Its also worth considering the race/background, with very few exceptions (EG Warrior of Light and a couple of lore fragments) Dragoons are Ishgardian Elezen or Hyur. Orphans tend to be prime material. Best of luck, the search bar is your friend on this one.

I'm new and excited to be here! I have a quick question.
Rusty Knight replied to Mordenn's topic in Welcome Desk
I second this motion. Less Lizards, more Elezen. -
So not your typical Ishgardian priest of Halone...
Rusty Knight replied to Riven's topic in Character Workshop
I understand the concept you're looking for but I'm not entirely sure if the market is there to really get the roleplay from it. I'll confess I'm not in the loop that much in regards to roleplay in Ishgard but the amount of persons to be found in the brume PC wise may leave you a little short on 'customers' per say. On the subject of the concept itself... In Ishgard's atmosphere while I'm certain there are certain priests who were less 'Orthodox' then most I'm not entirely certain a priest who has been on trial and had a trial by combat is one the people would really look towards. I'd also be surprised the tribunal (Considering its power) would tolerate a repeat offender and one who incites discord into their chamber freedom rather then locking him in a cell for his 'Dravanian induced madness'. Arguably with the raiding of the vault and that whole ordeal with the church the concept is certainly more playable but the background questions are still there. A few questions I'd pose to you then for this character: - What were his charges when he was accused and put on trial for? - Why was he tolerated within what we see as a highly orthodox church structure? (Pre-HW, what qualities made the Holy See keep him alive?) - What weaknesses does he posess? - You mentioned he wiped the floor with his accuser in a trial by combat, whats his martial background and where was it obtained? - What interactions/intentions do you have for him ingame? -
I'd echo everyone else when commenting the formatting really needs to be sorted out on the OP, it was a painful read. As for the topic at hand, communities develop overtime and its very easy to look back with nostalgia goggles and compare the past to the present. Trying to prevent the community changing naturally as it continues to grow is the same as standing on the beach and trying to stop the tide coming in. It simply doesn't work. Unfortunately the sheer amount of content in the OP makes it difficult to challenge, however the vast majority of it seems to be unfounded and/or opinion. People will do what they want at the end of the day. You should focus on doing what you find most enjoyable in your valuable time and stick to it.

Seeing the name of this topic I was slightly concerned, apparently unjustly so! Welcome and I'll keep an eye out to try bump into you sometime in Ul'dah!

Is your character open for killing/death? What about injury?
Rusty Knight replied to LadyRochester's topic in RP Discussion
Coming from a server where it was world pvp with the ability to permakill characters I'd say all my characters are open for death during events. Admittedly on said server creating a new character and getting into some new roleplay didn't involve a tenth of what it does on FFXIV. It also was really effective at community led quality control. In all honesty I doubt I'd let players take their life unless they were a very close contact who I've spent a considerable period of time roleplaying with. Its more likely my characters would either die through a serious of unfortunate events (cue) during a plotline or simply be killed off if it made sense during an event they were either incapable of continuing, or faced odds they have no hope of escaping from. Ultimately if I trust the player enough I doubt I'd have much complaint, having a character killed just for shock value or because XYZ character is a badass would get a big fat no.jpg from my corner. Rerolling on FF takes a fair amount of investment to justify without good reason, something I'm willing to do provided the circumstances are proper. -
A character concept you always wanted to try...
Rusty Knight replied to LadyRochester's topic in RP Discussion
A levemete is a concept I've always wanted to try, have a house rigged up as an adventurers bar where players can either submit or take on leves and then subsequently either let them DM themselves or DM it for the group/player who took it out. I love variety in my roleplay (which Ffxiv hating on alts makes a pain to satisfy) so being able to craft leves of all shapes, sizes and difficulties would be great fun to offer people. Unfortunately time constraints make it unrealistic to pull off, a shame as crafting plotlines and devising challenges for characters to reveal themselves in is great fun. -
Main Character's Name: Leoric Blackdale / Scarlet Heath Brief description/Link to Wiki: Fist of Rhalgr / Laid back Adventurer Usually online: 6pm-2am UTC Intensity: Heavy

No, I severely doubt I'll ever use a minion in RP either as to me its just easier to type out XYZ companion briefly when its prudent in the encounter. It does make me a sad panda however when you interact with characters whom emote for their minion more then themselves. That can just stawp, please.

New to the game and looking for people to rp with!
Rusty Knight replied to whitepaw's topic in Welcome Desk
Like all of the above, being from the same timezone I'd be more then happy to roleplay with you, but I'm on Balmung :< If you do decide to transfer across, for best value for money make all 8 characters and move them all at once. At least then if you become an altoholic you can fantasia ect on the cheap without all the hastle of moving. If the game has you in its grasps and you enjoy the setting I'd definitely suggest looking into if you can gather the funds to move. Best of luck -
Generally as long as I'm either alone, or not actively enagaging with anyone else in the room, dont have anyone looking at my screen and have a comfy position to nestle into thats all I need for RP. I guess watching a good film or reading something interesting that gives some ideas/sparks for encounters or scenes can help fire me up for a more heavy session of RP?

As I sit at work on another Christmas eve, the sounds of Phillipinos, French and some broken form of English fill my ears and all I want to do is sleep blisfully through the next 24 hours. Tell me my fellow nerds. For those of you 'lacking' in Christmas cheer, how do you intend to spend Christmas day? I intend to spend it asleep and trying to avoid doing anything in the contary.
-
"Just like all the other years Leoric you're still on the naughty list." "... As for you Scarlet despite some rather questionable actions; you've still done good by Eorzea's moral standards and its the nice list for you." I can just see their christmas presents being booze anyway, simple pleasures in life and all. As for Alueaux, he doesnt get a mention as Halone doesnt support Christmas.

Roleplayer Uncertainty/Insecurity Theater
Rusty Knight replied to Warren Castille's topic in Character Workshop
I'd probably say my biggest insecurity is my lack of faith in my own RP ability. I know I can type well and have roleplayed for years as a storyteller with some great feedback; yet the moment I get behind a singular character I just feel like my roleplay is either subpar, lacking character or plain boring. On FFXIV I've struggled to get into the full swing of plot driven roleplay simply because my shift pattern means I'll do an event then disappear for 5-6 days before being able to do the next. By then I'm normally too tired to do an event. Another uncertainty seems to be the lack of people (Probably I just haven't met them yet) willing to write a really no holds barred story. I dislike having to tone down emotes or censor content because XYZ subject offends people and some people really seem to take things OOC when a character brings them up IC. Its irritating as often they are decent folk OOCly but that bleed through man. NTY. I guess lastly, trying to expand my network is the biggest uphill struggle I've ever had in a MMO. Coming from a 24/7 100% IC Roleplaying server where you could always find some sort of roleplay and interaction to having to practically throw nets over people to drag them into some initial roleplay, whilst being incredibly persistent sometimes. Then you factor in time zones and it just becomes a massive headache trying to catch people online without waking up at about 3pm the next day from having to stay up so late. -

Rusty Knight replied to CrimsonMars's topic in Chronicled Connections
Avelyn Firestone (Temple trained Fist / Virella on forums) / Berrod Armstrong(General Monk) would be the two most knowledgeable monks I imagine Chiyo may of heard of to assist her in her problem (the latter probaby much more happy to do so icly). Maybe drop them a pm? -

I'd suggest thinking about what sort of storyline/plot you want to embroil this entourage of yours in. Expecting PC's to follow your character around as her group in Ul'dah sounds like it would get old very quickly, without some form of story for this group to be following it will ultimately end up as four people following your character around and getting ordered to do things repeatedly for the sake of having something to do. Like the suggestions above me, there is nothing wrong with having these characters played by NPC's who you can emote being around or at your characters beck and call, but locating players willing to do it is a tall order. The idea of having one PC bodyguard is much more workable, but still requires some kind of plot to push it forward else they are just being a statue following you about.

I'm curious as to what roleplay opportunities you are offering to those who are interested in this advert. From the general vibe I'm getting it seems like its all about establishing your character and not much more. What could an individual expect to get roleplay wise if they were to play the role of the assistant? I'm certain this type of roleplay appeals to some but it seems a little one sided committing characters to basically be servants solely to display affluence.
