1. If power supplies going out is a regular thing on your rig, your voltages might need a tweak. Are you overclocking?
2. People here are freakin awesome. Just wanted to say that.
3. also, add Jojotumi Bubutumi to your friend, I'll gladly run stuff with you if you want someone in your corner the first time you run something! (and the post above me is right about Crystal Tower and all that if you like the big raidy stuff. Good gear there occasionally!)
4. I went through this a few weeks ago! I came back to try Ninja and ended up really liking it and had to do the big gear up thing. Best thing to do is make sure you do the main scenario roulette daily. That will help a LOT toward getting gear, and it's pretty easy. Even if you have no idea what you're doing, everyone massively outgears it and it will be done quickly. Queue for Amdapor/Wanderers Normal, Haukke/Copperbell Hard, Maybe even Brayflox Hard for the first week too. People in this game are generally a LOT nicer about people being inexperienced and the odds are you'll be carried through here, and as you get gear/get braver you can try new dungeons, and people will love you for it because they get the newbie tome bonuses! Just TELL people you're inexperienced/new to a dungeon as soon as you start, and they'll be more open to helping/teaching than someone that says nothing and causes a wipe. Reading brief guides on dungeons before you queue can help a bit, but until you DO it, you'll never quite be comfortable. Good luck!
5. I'm bad. I know I'm bad. But I'm bad because I'm kinda new. So let me share a story with you. I haven't played in a year, mostly because my FC stopped doing stuff so I wandered to other games. But I heard about the Ninja job and thought it sounded like fun, so I came back two weeks ago to try it out. I level to 50 in about a week, and start reading guides for each new dungeon I've never done before so I'm at least FAMILIAR with the mechanics. I don't expect to do wonderfully, because being in the fight is different than reading/watching it, and most people speed run this stuff anyway, so how bad could it be? My first time in the Hard Mode Tam-Tara, I tell everyone I'm new, and the Black Mage and the White Mage are like, "yay bonus tomes!" The tank, a Paladin, was a big turd and was just very surly "oh great" Massive pulls and stuff. I don't really know what to do in massive pulls as a ninja other than spam death blossom and use my group ninja maneuvers every 20 seconds. The BLM had crazy gear and was obviously doing the most work, so the tank grumbles a "contribute, jojo or we kick". Which got a "O.o" from the healer. The WHM explains each boss, and I think I do okay. I keep my DoTs up, I use my debuff so its always up, when Sneak Attack is off cooldown I do that crazy water splashie move, and I keep my haste buff up. "lol what a noob" from the tank and we continue. Then I die on the second boss, because those AoE tracks everywhere are crazy, but I get rezzed, boss dies, everyones happy. "Im not pulling anymore until we kick the nin." The seemingly cool WHM and BLM agree and I get kicked. Some people are turds.
6. If you are RPing in public, you have to be open to allowing people to enter play. If you want it private, but want to be in whatever setting, do it in party chat at least. I was filling out my hunting log and two people were RPing what was about to become sexytimes in public chat, so I commented in a humorous way, and all I got was a snarky OOC response. Which is lame. If I see people RPing in public, and I feel like I can add to it, I will. If they don't want me around for whatever reason, they need to take it to private, or at least find an in character way to dismiss me. Bottom line: If it's in public chat, go for it.
7. People get offended by lots of different stuff, and I never intentionally try to push peoples buttons, but I have once gotten a tell saying that Jojo was "being a bit colorful" They politely asked me if I could tone it down a bit, and I did. They were kind about it, and it was just a brief RP interlude that happened in the middle of the marketplace, so there were a LOT of people around. I managed to get my characters personality across.... but when you play a filthy-mouthed drunken Lalafell...without the quite as filthy mouth, it can mute the experience a bit. Sometimes you gotta compromise a bit, but if you're doing it to a point where it isn't fun anymore, then you've done too much.
8. I'll be on Gilgamesh. If you see Zozoloku Jojoloku (still not finalized on that name) running around, be sure to say something!
9. From a wiki in the past, or some forum.. or something I dont honestly remember, the the average height for a Lalafell fell into the range of 2'8"-3'2". Slightly shorter or slightly larger is possible.
10. My little drunken monk would drop a bar tab, that once it is in your inventory, can not be removed in any way until it is paid off, and until it is paid off, you are unable to access your Inn room, or buy anything in Gridania at all. And a rare drop rate he would drop a MASSIVE beer mug that's as big as he is.
11. It's not really RP, so I didnt want to post it in the IC thread... I dreamed that I was playing the game, like actually sitting at the computer and playing, and I had an interesting exchange that perfectly summed up my idea for my Lalafell monk instructor. *Monk is busy crafting and making leather armor.* Nako: "Master Donjo, Master Donjo!" Donjo: "What do you want? Go away! Go train! Do kicks on that tree over there!" Nako: "How many kicks?" Donjo: "Until beer comes out." I have no idea why I felt compelled to share.
12. Lalafell male, Dunesfolk, but I dunno what his name will be. I want to fit the naming conventions, but not stray to far from the name I had originally thought of. It will take a bit of time.
13. I. Basic Info Characters: Donjo Zalanjo Primary character: Donjo Zalanjo! Linkshells: Nada, will likely wait til release. Primary RP linkshell: See previous statement. II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): I settle in on medium. I tilt either way pretty heavily from time to time, it really depends on what I see in the community. If I go out intending to adventure, but I see an awesome RP thing happening, I'll jump right in and may get nothing done game-wise. Sometimes I go a week or two without RP, and it doesn't bother me one bit. I ALWAYS welcome smart RP though. NEVER fear approaching me in the field. That's the best RP. Views on RP combat and injuries: If it's not predetermined for a story, and it's more than a casual smack on the arm, you're going to need to duel me to get an outcome. Unless the game has no dueling. Then I'm kind of stuck, and may revise this. Views on IC romance: IC romance is good and fine. Just make sure the lines do not blur, which happens a lot, so I really have to trust you as a player and a friend. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): I like this! But it's gotta be well planned and thought out! Donjo will have no long lost family coming up to me at random. Views on lore: I am not as well versed in it as I am in other games, so call me out if I make a mistake, because I want to stick to it! If you play something that goes against it, and I am able to verify that, my characters will react to you as if you're a loony. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Say is In character, /whisper is in character, and /linkshell will be in character conditionally, depending on the group I join. III. Other Info Country: United States Timezone: Eastern Contact info: Leave me a message here! I'll check it more than once a day. ~Special announcements can be found in the posts below~ Donjo Zalamo: A Character Sheet (WIP) Full Name: Donjo Zalanjo Avatar Name: Donjo Zalanjo Nicknames: Old Man Titles: Monk Teacher (Is it Instructor, Master, Sensei even?) Server: (To be decided, whatever the big RP hub will be!) Calling: Disciple of War Biographical Race: Dunesfolk Lalafell Gender: Male Date of Birth: He aint telling. Age: Again, not telling. (He appears oldish. Grey and wrinkled, but still able-bodied) Hair: spiky and grey Skin: Pale brown Eyes: Gold..ish? (I need to see the options before I settle) Height: 3'2" Weight: Stocky. Place of Residence: Gridania Place of Birth: Ala Mhigo (I think this works in the timeline) Relatives: He won't talk about it. Enemies: Any that would denounce the Fists of Rhalgr Allies: He's pretty much abandoned his teaching and pupils so.... Occupation: a former teacher, now a leatherworker. Appearance Fashion of Choice: Whatever he finds when he wakes up, assuming it doesn't smell too bad. Armor of Choice: Leather, things that help him maintain his focus. Weapons of Choice: Fists when necessary, but he prefers the tools of crafting. Personality Alignment: Neutral Motivations: Getting drunk, selling enough clothes and armor to get drunk. Disposition: Grumpy, depressed. Drunk when he can afford it. Outlook: Blurry when he can. Religion/Philosophy: Though he won't admit it, he still has faith in Rhalgr. Positive Personality Traits: Protective. Negative Personality Traits: All his other personality traits. Misc. Quirks: Even though his order has been banished to the winds, he still meditates and prays when no ones looking. Affiliations Linkshells: None yet! Interests Likes: Drinking, being drunk. Avoiding Nako. Dislikes: Not being drunk, having to do work. Favorite Foods: Beer nuts (or the Eorzea equivalent) Favorite Drinks: Alcohol. Favorite Colors: Everything he makes is a vibrant red when the color isn't specified in the order. Hobbies: Drinking, punching things that stop him from drinking. Details Played by What Famous Person: Undecided! Theme Song: Dunno either! History: Donjo was once a devout Monk of Rhalgr, but then all of that mess happened twenty years ago (25?) and he's sort of stumbled into Gridania having a natural talent for Leatherworking. Occasionally there's this pesky cat that bothers him and somehow convinced him to teach her the ways of the Pugilist.
14. Thank you for the timeline, and that last post was EXTREMELY helpful. I think I'm able to visualize my character a bit better now. He managed to escape (or was out of town at that time for some reason, I'll mull it over) and his faith was shaken, and he becomes an old drunkard. (and later on he meets and teaches monksy things to others. While still being a drunkard.) An old, grouchy, drunken Lalafell. This could be great.
15. Is there a timeline or chart that lists major events in the world of FF14? I'm trying to come up with a bit of history for my monk, and I need to know if he's old enough to know things, or have seen things in the world. I know about monks, thanks to that great post and link from Merri, and I definitely want my character to be traditional, (or used to have been traditional) worshipper of Rhalgr. but where he stands now depends on how long ago it was that Theodoric created that religion based on Rhalgrs wife and all that. Plus I'm just genuinely curious. Thank you.

I am stealing her topic for introduction because I'm awesome. So hi. I play a lot of MMOs. some that Nako doesn't really like but she tries them anyway so we can play together. However we are both really looking forward to playing this again. We have a lot of high hopes. It's looking good so far and you guys seem really nice. I'm awesome.
