  1. NINs are okay if you don't compare us to the other melee now. A bit behind MNK and DRG, but still able to do our share just fine.
  2. Level is the best determining factor in making a snap decision, because it is all a stranger can see. If you're going to RP combat situations with people you don't know a LOT, then you should put that time in, because while this is an RPG, it is also an MMO, and the factors simply must mix together. To what extent varies, but it's the way of things. At least it is in my opinion.
  3. There is no way I'll be able to fall asleep Thursday night, so I'm going to just stay up, unlock machinist, then probably pass out. Of course there's the chance I'll be excited and keep playing anyway
  4. Black Desert is going to be the kind of game I play to mess with the character creator for a few days then that's it. "Action Combat" has yet to be appealing to me in an MMO.
  5. This is highly unlikely due to MSQ-storyline, I am informed. But just imagine the little level 30 newbie corpses littering the ground. You're dropping the ball here, SE.
  6. You forgot tome caps, cross-class skills, gear lockouts, etc. FFXIV punishes you for doing everything on one character to begin with, contrary to how it's advertised. Either have one or the other, you know? I honestly don't agree with you on this one. It's not "punishment." It's a way of extending the content, and it's practiced in one form or another by every successful MMO. Staples in every successful, raiding-focused MMO. WoW does it. SWTOR does it. Rift does it. Wildstar does it. Name me a wildly successful MMO with a serious raiding endgame that doesn't engage in content gating via tomes, raid lockouts, etc? There are some people who will play enough to fill those slots up and actually level the characters in all the classes. I personally think it's insane, but they do it. I don't really care if I have 8 character slots or not. I'm very content with my one character. That's a personal opinion. There are many people very devoted to the PvE endgame, and you have no right to denigrate their focus. What's more, you were complaining earlier that SE won't let us grind Tomes and gear all day erry day, but now you're complaining about having to grind classes to get cross-classes. I'm entirely confused as to how you are working this out logically. Not all the way to 50 they won't. I don't know if you understand what I'm trying to say. The truth of the matter is that new classes are locked in Ishgard. New players can't play them and must play another class. Why not play a class that will benefit your future main class? I think he means that you don't need to play the class to 50 to get all the benefits out of it, and if they find the class dreadful, why stick with it to 50? It would be faster (because it'd be more fun, and you'd play more often this way) to get paladin to..whatever you need for provoke then start over with something that MIGHT be more entertaining. I really wish they'd just open up the gates to everyone and let people mad dash at level 30 to get to Ishgard for the new classes. That would be funny.
  7. That's an oxymoron. I think the word you're looking for is 'tiny'. Indeed. Do you feel better now?
  8. Please explain how being forced to level as something other than the job you want to play helps you learn your class through the "core game"? Are you stating, in a round about way, that there's actually a large and substantial amount of potential new players that will only be motivated to buy and subscribe to FFXIV because of a small handful of classes in an expansion? The keyword here is new. Not a veteran leveling their 5th alt. The argument I'm seeing thrown around this thread a lot is the mistreatment of new players with this gated content, and speaking as a new player, I don't see it as mistreatment at all. This has been the way of MMOs since...well since MMOs and expansions were a thing, I imagine. (I didn't play EQ or UO. FFXI was my first MMO and this type of stuff was certainly present in that game.) So, with that being said, I'll explain how being forced to level something other than the job someone wants to play helps you learn the core game (I didn't just say class. I did say "the game" as well) when you show me all these potential new players who refuse to play FFXIV unless they have access to one of these new classes from the word "go". Because, as it stands, I just don't believe it. It just sounds absurd that a person with little to no previous history in this game will only pick up the game because of a class they have zero knowledge of. I like you. Welcome to the game. There WILL be a few new players that may be put off because they cant play one of the three new classes right away, but they will be the VAST minority, and no matter what a game does, there will ALWAYS be a minority that will be unhappy. (Or a majority if they really screw it up)
  9. Try going into Coil while undergeared - just T1 will do. You have an Echo buff from the start these days, but you still need i70 to do so. Patching in an Echo buff won't change iLevel requirements, and yeah sure it's easy to get up there in iLevels these days... provided you can get a group, period. Unless they went out of their way to make solo versions of these instances (which would be arguably incredibly stupid) what you propose won't change a thing. The best news to combat a bit of this (in short from 30-49) is that new classes start at 30. Since that means from 30 onwards there'll be a bigger pool of people leveling DRKs and Astros. The problem is the amount of available bodies who will be around to do 2.1-2.5 content. The only solution that's been brought forward is literally "let's help the new people!" or "they should join an established FC!" Joining a rando FC should never be a solution, and people here shouldn't feel pressured into helping out new people. Since this needs reiterating : NO ONE IS SAYING THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THE CONTENT. I'm saying that this decision has underlying problems that I'd like the devs to address. How is it any different from the parts of the 1-49 MSQ which already require dungeons? Roll them all into low-level roulette, scale them down to be doable in ilvl 60 gear, and call it a day. Again, we've been playing this game for 2 years now, and it's heavily based on a game most of us played for up to a decade. Nothing here is new, and it's entirely easy to predict exactly what SE will do. Seriously, have a little faith in the dev team. They're not idiots. Ryoko has it pretty much nailed. Things with the MSQ WILL change so no one needs to grind out level 50 content (Not counting finishing the MSQ) before they go to Heavensward stuff. Either they'll reward ilevel 100 stuff during the last branches of the MSQ, or the required instances will have their ilevel dropped WAAY down. Probably both. I suspect that the requirement to complete the MSQ will be relaxed some time after release though.
  10. These are awesome! I might have to make my own Twin Adders poster. I've actually given serious thought to making a Goobbue rug like the housing item. I may have to just make it a tapestry though because constructing a sufficiently durable rug is very challenging.
  11. Everyone asking for clears feel free to send me a tell if I'm on or add me. I will be happy to help. I still need ramen and shiva ex myself
  12. I Volunteer to help/be helped. 119 ninja that's done up to T7 and all the EXs but Ramuh and Shiva, definitely would like to do more primals myself. Not to worried about coilas I'm in a newbies static and we will get there, but will help if needed! (Update!)
  13. I'm going to vent on behalf of my group, because man was I off my game and I want to share for some reason. (I might be drunk, I dunno.) Someone was recruiting for Titan EX tonight, and I sent then a tell. "Hey, I've never finished it, but I've gotten him to 15% before." They accept and bring me into the group and we're off! I immediately die by falling off the cliff in phase two like twice in a row. I was looking really bad, and felt really bad. It was just one of those days where I was really, really not with it. I did get it together and we get to the super bomb phase and for some reason I just couldn't target the bomb the tank marked. I kept clicking on people and couldn't get the LB off and we died and I felt bad again. I kinda laughed at myself, but I could tell the tanks and healer were getting frustrated a bit. We DID get the kill, and I was alive at the end with like 7 minutes left. But yeah, I was just not at my best, and if they post here I bet they'd tell the story, so I'm beating them to it! Yeah! (Plus this helps me feel better about it somehow)
  14. -When I join a new FC, it's probably going to be to do raidy stuff with them, and I will be in whatever voice chat they want, but if they expect me there every day, there's a problem. Voice Chat for me is for raids or maybe FC meetings, and maybe to hang out a little bit before and after. Otherwise I don't want to be there. So require voice chat for raids, but nothing else or I'm out of there. -You have to have a real application process. Like actual interviews and stuff. If you invite me just because I ask, then you're probably full of people that are bad too. -Open door policy with officers is important. If I don't feel I can contact an officer with an issue because they don't have the time to hear me, or I'm worried I'll get shunned/frowned at for "wasting their time with something trivial" then there's a problem.
  15. Inessa seems really interesting going by their wiki! (Im sorry person after me. I dont post much, but you should check out my characters hair on the lodestone. its awesome)
  16. When doing my trial roulette the last 3 days, we've gotten the "first time" bonus, and two of those days the tank was complaining about the lack of dps. No shit there's not much dps, 2 of them have less than 4000 HP, so we need to do it a little differently. People are jerky.
  17. I'm one of the people that generally DOES connect in character level with RP in most games. Final Fantasy is not one of those games though. In FFXIV, Everyone can max level in all of the classes, and in an RP sense, it doesn't make sense for one person to be able to master EVERYTHING. That just wouldn't be any fun. I could go on to defend why I think level matters in other games, but it wouldn't make any sense here.
  18. I fought in my first one today, had a lot of fun! Will definitely come to more.
  19. I just got back into the game a little over a month ago, and fell in love with Ninja. I started looking a little on the forums, but now that I'm back from my vacation I want to start looking with a little more dedication. I'm a role player, and I'd like to find a FC/LS/Static that respects that, and maybe even wants to do that WITH me when I'm not stabbing all the bad guys for you. Definitely not hardcore, so I'd be pretty content as an alternate for a raid if I can't find one that only wants to go 2-3 days a week at most. I haven't done any real raiding in this game since like..turn 3 or 4? Long time ago. I mean I've done a lot of the Trials, but the only Extreme I have down is Garuda, so I need to learn, but I'm willing to do just that. (and yes, I still need to get lancer to 34, Im gonna do that this week I swear!)
  20. Looks like you're all Ninja'd up? I'm too slow. But if you end up with room I am a Ninja that wants to raid, and RP...and stuff.
  21. If there is room, Gilles Levreaux would like in.
  22. The new ones do not, I guess because everyone is new so theres no bonus I guess?
  23. slightly off topic, but you people seem to know what you're doing and I've yet to touch 2.5 content, could I maybe add some of you guys to run the new stuff safely? (or at least with people that are competent and patient?)
  24. Had one last week that I forgot to mention here. I'm still fairly inexperienced at end game, but I've done Lost City a few times, and I know the mechanics. Tank pulls fairly slow but its steady realizing the group is all sub 100 gear, we down the first two bosses no problem, we get to Diabolos. "Jojo do doors, it interrupts my casts" Says the black mage. "Yeah, cant heal good if I have to open doors too" Says the white mage. So the Ninja does the doors, and the black mage (with worse gear than me) just sits and casts and because Im running around and not dpsing much at all (my gear level at the time was 77?) We run outta doors and die. (Not to mention the first pull where I just completely borked the doors)
