Lack of enforcement is not the same as a rule not existing. Not getting caught, likewise, is not the same as compliance. The housing market is a great example of that. For a long time, and on most servers, it wasn't complained about, and so they were probably largely unaware. Complaints happened, they stepped in and said "um, yeah, we consider that pretty much RMT, so... don't do that". The same thing happened with art commissions, and I doubt very many people even were complaining about that. The important thing to take away from it is that SE does not want players to be trading for things which the game itself is not inherently set up to accommodate with its own systems (e.g. there's no system in the game for selling a house, ergo you may not sell a house; there's no system in the game for selling artwork, ergo you may not sell artwork). Selling runs of content falls under the same category. Loads of RMT websites offer those kinds of services and it's all bannable... if you get caught, or, if they decide they want to crack down on it. See my first sentence up above. It's the same principle at work. There's no system in the game for selling content runs, ergo you may not sell content runs. I don't think there's a system in the game for selling writing, either... Edit: Just to be perfectly clear - as I stated in a previous post, I don't personally care what somebody does in a situation like this. It doesn't affect me in the least. The OP just seems to write nicely and so I thought to offer a word of caution. She can do with it as she pleases. Again, these things are not the same. Square has NO issue with selling runs, or selling RP, because these things are not offered by Square/don't cost real money. The housing market is a regulated thing by Square Enix, so people circumventing that to make more money breaks the rules. Using gil for an out of game service could get them in legal trouble because it involves a service not involving the game being paid for with something in the game. They aren't going to jump through hoops to get your money back if someone doesn't fulfill their end of the bargain, and will absolutely advise against such things for that reason, but there is nothing Square will do to stop someone for paying for RP with Gil.

They're definitely inconsistent with their policies, that's for sure. People have gotten in trouble for things like selling a character art commission in exchange for gil, and there's the housing thing. I don't think they do anything about what doesn't get reported, though, so... who knows. Could be that all it'd take is for a customer with some screenshots to go to SE and complain that gil was demanded. But yeah, good luck, for sure, OP. No judgment here either. Just about everybody does ERP (especially the ones who protest that they don't). There's heaps of people falling over themselves looking to do it for free, so I'm not sure why anybody would pay gil for it, but people apparently do, from what I've heard. A fool and their money are soon parted, eh? Gil can be demanded for any and everything, it doesn't much matter because it's not RMT. Square doesn't really care. They don''t stop people from buying/selling runs of content, why would RP be any different? Art is different because it involves something not in the game. Housing is different because Square directly controls the housing market.

Yep, just gonna echo a bit. If you're good and your FC is good, then this will pass soon enough as long as you don't give them fuel. Usually the people that do a lot of yelling and shouting and roasting in public forums tend to be the terrible people.

Hey at least its not like the other game that has an add on that auto spams invites to people not in a guild. lol

discussion Why FFXIV's rape themes fall monumentally flat
Tyndles replied to Seriphyn's topic in Lore Discussion
That is not my argument. My argument is that we cannot possibly know how gender dynamics exist in Eorzea because their level of egalitarianism between the sexes is so far out and alien to our own world. Therefore, making assumptions that rape functions the same way as we know it is fallacious. Your post also doesn't acknowledge that day-to-day sexism is apparently non-existent in Eorzea, whereas in our own, it is still very much a thing. I...I mean...what.....HUH? -
The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales

Final boss of Sohm Al Hard. The tank has been mediocre throughout the run. Not unbearable, but making mistakes, making huge pulls that he doesn't have any business making with his abilities, thankfully the healer is amazing because me and the Bard are tanking half the pulls. The final boss he just...runs into the lava. Three times. "Im just putting the lava pools where they wont bother us." But he doesnt leave the lava and dies. Three. Fucking. Times. Even when the lava pools dont target him. We end up booting him and getting another tank. It was magical, though. -
One person can truly, TRULY fuck a FC up if they really want to. Especially if it's a big company with a lot of cliques or loose friendships, so being extreme in the recruit process is important. Being SLOW is not. So while It's a little frustrating, if I have to jump through hoops, I generally know the FC is worth it.

I keep seeing people post this in every thread this is brought up. I find this reaction to be mean spirited and contemptuous. And it doesn't seem to be in the spirit of role play. It's weird where people draw the line between "okay, I'll pretend your character is/has this, but if you say they are/have this I'm going to be derisive and try to make you feel bad. It's a very clear line to draw. "This is my original character that I created for role-play in this world." vs. "This is not my character, it already has a story, but Im going to just pretend that lore doesn't exist."
-
I treat NPC role-play as one of two things: 1. They are just clowning around and joking, so I treat them like I would treat them a costumed star at Disney World. "Oh hey! Its Mickey Mouse! Let me shake your hand and get a picture." and my character goes on their merry way, laughing it off. 2. If they are trying to SERIOUSLY RP as that character? My character will treat them as someone delusional, touched in the head or drunk. Because thats the only way it would make sense.

discussion When to SPEAK, when to THINK, and when to DESCRIBE
Tyndles replied to Kallera's topic in RP Discussion
Writing and role-playing are two different things. When you're writing, you're strictly entertaining an audience, not directly interacting with other people. When you write, you have license and ability to put all the thought and feeling that you want, because you're the only one telling the story, so you should knock yourself out. This works in forum RP to a an extent because you cannot physically see anything going on around you, so expression must be explained and expanded upon. When you Role-play, you are interacting very directly with one or more other people, so beyond a couple adverbs now and then to allow for something the game mechanics will not, a lot of description is unnecessary and really slows down the pace of RP. We don't need to know everything that your character is thinking, because they should say it to someone else. They should not have an inner monologue with themselves as if there is no one else around. If there are things that the character is thinking that are being kept to themselves, then the other RPers don't need to know it either. Their characters can figure out what your character is thinking based on the situation at hand and your characters reaction. As to description, the game IS limited in what you can do. You can only move in certain ways, emote in certain ways etc, but if you need more than a single block of text that the game permits to describe something outside of combat, you're probably going on too long. -
discussion Current State of the MMO Market
Tyndles replied to Parth Makeo's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
EVE is the best "sandbox" game there is, if thats what you like, EVE is the game to get it. I just don't dig spaceships much. Any of the non space MMOs that have tried to do something similar have all failed HUGE. -
discussion Current State of the MMO Market
Tyndles replied to Parth Makeo's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I was excited when I heard about Camelot Unchained. But everything I've seen about it just makes me more and more disappointed. I don't think there will ever be a "next big MMO" again. It'll be Free to Play games that have different aspects that attract smaller groups, but like Warren said, the WoW-killer state of mind is gone. The time of the MMO being the hotness has passed us. -

Samurai and Blue Mage in FFXIV - Weapons
Tyndles replied to Altitis Acquired's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I still think SAM is gonna be STR dps. 3 STR classes 3 DEX 3 MND 3 INT 3 VIT and DPS because we dont need another sword tank. and there wont be another class. This is not GOOD logic, mind you, but its my logic so shut up. -
I post and rant a lot about bad PvE experiences, but you can always tell me to shut up.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Tyndles replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
My expert last night was a bit of a shitshow. The healer is new, and their gear very much reflects that they haven't been in the game in a while, or they don't really do PvE content or whatever. The point is that when the tank said "gonna do big pulls" and the healer suggested against that, that the run was going to be magical. The run went okay until the big pull before the liquid fflame, when the dragoon just explodes, "so uh...why ARENT YOU DIUNB YR FUCKIMN JOB" (misspellings kept) The healer just said "sorry" and we did the pull a little smaller and things go fine, and then the tank pulls the ENTIRE last chunk, all the way to the statues. We die, and the dragoon goes on about "Im a dragoon, im the best dps in the game, you need to keep me alive" (that one isnt exact) I felt so bad, because the healer left before I could give them the comm once we got through it. (Which when the tank pulled smaller, we did) -
discussion Rogue One !!Spoilers!! Discussion Thread
Tyndles replied to Kage's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I really enjoyed the movie after the first 20 minutes. the exposition there was jumpy and weak. but after that I was absolutely glued to my seat. Other than that, the only real complaint I have about the movie is that CGI people aren't ready to replace real actors. Tarkin was distracting and weird lookin. -
balmung Shadow Sect monk LF new spiritual mentor/master
Tyndles replied to ckingch's topic in Chronicled Connections
I'm not sure that those sites are the best reference, because the chakras in FF are all aether powered and stuff. Jojo is an old Shadow monk, but he's not really up to teaching or mentoring right now, the primary reason is that there is so little lore on Shadow Sect atm, that I might botch it and have major retcons come Stormblood. -
If the group isn't engaging, keep it short. One-off events. Like "help me smuggle this stuff, but thats it" When multiple people do repeat performances to these one off events, make them two parters. But people tend to like bar/slice of life stuff because they don''t have a schedule, they can do it when they feel like it, and if they flake whatever. But shorter is generally better in my experience.

Tyndles replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Do my expert. Tank refuses to use grit, says IT is unnecessary because he's got a 270 weapon. I pull aggro and get blamed for death. Ughhhh -
You say this was a rant, but the bold lines are pretty attacky. It put people on the defensive right away. The last sentence particularly turned it very passive aggressive.

After reading your last post, I gotta assume the worst for you. I don't think she's into you anymore man. I think she cares and wants to be friends, but I think you lost this one.

I play a lalafell, this is me when I was a lalafell.

In theory it seems pretty awesome, the spell chains to a big boom thing could be fun! But I just need to know more about it before I can even begin to think about a character that could do it ICly, (and I'm one of the types that my main job has to match my character. It's weird I know). If I play it and I love it? Then Jojo might retire. (He's old, and Ive been playing him a while, so it might be time for a big story to wrap him up.) We'll see though.
