  1. Me, I didn't like Genesis because he makes Sephiroth less important as a character. Sephiroth isn't the mastermind - he's a side effect of the real, hidden mastermind's plot. FFVII is just cleaning up the mess left over from Crisis Core, all started by this seemingly random character that was apparently important enough to inform every other central character's actions but not important enough that anyone ever mentioned him outside the game in which he appeared. The franchise worked better without Genesis because Sephiroth didn't need extra motivation - literally nobody was questioning his motives before CC. All Genesis does, as a character, is steal Sephi's agency as a villain and give Zack another rival to measure himself against. But I'm not putting the effort in to break down or evaluate the character, if only because that would mean replaying the game. I just don't have that kind of time. Or, y'know, caring.
  2. Considering his behavior towards Cloud in Advent Children - yeah, I know, we were talking about FF7 core, not Compilation - I'd say Sephiroth is definitely fixated on Cloud. I mean, the whole "tell me what's precious to you so I can take it away" thing? Seems a little more personal than his old "I'll just destroy the planet" plan. And looking at Crisis Core in particular, he was even a little fixated on Zack, who was essentially proto-Cloud. Dude obsesses is what I'm saying. So, yeah, the plot of VII does seem like a get-back-at-Cloud plan. Seems like a theme.
  3. I'm just saying it's consistently been top ten in every "most wanted sequel" or "most wanted unreleased" list pretty much every time they make one (spurious). I don't know how many people played the originals, but it's not like nobody's ever owned a Dreamcast and an Xbox. Plenty of people have played the originals, whether on their native systems or via emulators. And Shenmue itself ain't exactly an unpopular title itself - it's consistently on "Greatest ever" lists, too. Shenmue 3 is just one of those games people have always wanted, but we never thought we'd actually get.
  4. Maybe it goes without saying, but do you have any idea how much the game-playing public actually wanted Shenmue 3? Now imagine how quickly we could fund Half-Life 2: Episode Three.
  5. This. Did not think of this. Now, I'm hoping for awesome.
  6. This. This is what's exciting.
  7. I still want a legit HD remake of FFIV, rather than the abortive chibi version they keep releasing. A full-scale Cecil and Kain isn't too much to ask, is it? But whatever. I absolutely will buy this, if only because I haven't played FFVII in, like, a decade. Still not the E3 news I'm most excited about though.
  8. Well, this ties into my absurd obsession with the still-missing Job, but... Y'know. Samurai.
  9. I don't get my check 'til this Friday, so I don't even technically own the main game yet. I have just an overwhelming amount of content to get through, considering I've already hit the level twenty cap on the free trial. I will be trailing behind in the Heavensward department for quite some time.
  10. I'm a freelance writer. I've done a few articles for various publications and websites, and ghost-written a few more for especially busy staff writers at the local paper. I've even been tricked into writing a couple essays for local college students, who pay surprisingly well for cheaters. In fact, the last girl got a commendation from the teacher, encouraging her to 'pursue publishing'. These days I'm trying to break into fiction, though short stories - the format to which I'm accustomed - don't seem to sell well. There's just not a huge market for them anymore and plenty of competition from proven authors. I have not sold a single non-non-fiction story yet. And writing novels is just, like, super hard.
  11. My name is Griffith. Middle name. It's on of many things he and I have in common. ... actually, we both have blue eyes and that's the whole of the resemblance But, if you look to the avatar, you'll note that Griffith! isn't a name - it's what Guts is screaming. Rest easy, for I am merely the anthropomorphic personification of an exclamation made by a fictional character. Nothing treacherous or confusing there.
  12. I. Basic Info Characters: Marten Arkwright Primary character: Marten Arkwright Linkshells: None yet Primary RP linkshell: None yet II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium. I'll roleplay most encounters, but some things - dungeons, notably, and story quests - I prefer to tackle OOC. Views on RP combat and injuries: I RP combat, when it's an element of in character interaction. I also RP death (as an entirely temporary state of affairs, as befits my preferred power-level and the nature of the game), though I don't really RP injury, since characters heal so quickly in game. I've used prolonged injury - and illness - as an angle before, though. Views on IC romance: I'm for it. Marten is... not asexual so much as uninterested. Romance has nothing to do with his goals. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Marten has no family - or none he'd claim - since 'Marten Arkwright' isn't even his real name... as far as you know. Views on lore: I like to stick to the lore as much as possible. In fact, my characters are usually tied to the Lore in one way or other - at the moment, Marten is an exception. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Say is just talking aloud, isn't it? Linkpearls are - or were in my FFXI group, I don't recall if there's a distinction - magical pearls produced by Linkshells that you put in your ear and let you communicate with anyone else who had a pearl that came from the same shell. Tells are more like asides, telepathy, or any other appropriate explanation that suits the situation. I've seen a lot of people RP in emotes. Never done that, myself, but it seems to work pretty well, at least for paragraph style interactions. Might start using that for exposition and NPC interaction. [*]III. 13. Hail and well met, and other nerd stuff. I'm Griffith! - punctuation compulsory - and I'm new to FFXIV. In fact, I'm still struggling to get the race names right. I keep calling everything by it's FFXI name - I've already been scolded for saying 'Hume' more than once. It's Hyur. I'll learn. I used to be in a fairly active RP LS in XI, and a long time ago, I ran an RP guild in WoW. So, y'know. I've been Rping for awhile. And that's just in MMOs. I've been playing tabletop RPGs since I was eleven. So... 16 years. I'm also all kinds of into anime, fantasy, sci-fi, music and movies. Just all kinds of nerd stuff. And that's basically everything I can ramble about right now. Nice to meet ya'll and hears hoping we all have fun.
