  1. Dude, that's absolutely fine! You discover lore as you go, and just adjust your concept. Ishgard is a very strict country, but it's not a sin if you need to twist the lore's arm a bit. If your character has leave to travel (I imagine it'd be difficult to get leave, but screw that), he wouldn't be hunted down. If you're still leveling, you should start doing quests near Ishgard after the Titan storyline. Chat with NPCs in Coerthas, it'll give you an idea what it's like there. To expand on Laments suggestion you could also take the approach that he has been ordered from the front lines due to some factor, Twelve knows many of the Ishgardians I met seemed to suffer from a PTSD of a kind (at least the older soldiers). Or perhaps he, like was suggested, took an indeterminate period of time as "Leave" from what ever family or company he was with before in an effort to improve himself. You could also play the "assumed dead". If I recall correctly there is a quest line that involves an individual who had been preforming escorts for merchants in Coerthas while he worked to become stronger and earn the right to fight in the front lines. You find out he died during combat with a somewhat unimpressive foe, the superior asks you to alter the truth, gives you the boys ring and enters his name on the list of a watch guard that was attacked by Dragons. You notify the father and he seems at a loss, but not as hard because he died "honorably" perhaps you could alter this to have been under a compassionate superior who has hidden your absence? This would provide a convenient way to introduce conflict down the line.. Just a few thoughts!
  2. No problem, it can take a while to get your feet under you with all the lore. You can read a bit about it on the Wiki here: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Ishgard If you like I can suggest a few different sources (not sure what your preferred media is, video or text) Either way, feel free to keep throwing ideas out to be commented on. Edit: I can't recommend http://xivwiki.com/Main_Page enough, while the data is still being fleshed out their organization and fact checking is superb.
  3. Not a problem, Looking forward to seeing everyone there, I hope you have the chance to make acquaintances with most of the guests.
  4. Hello Bloodied, If you have the chance to pop on this Saturday there are a number of events happening (at different times) but you can find more out by clicking on the Calendar along the top bar. A note on the top bar, you can also take a look at the Linkshell/Free company listings which should give you a good idea of who's around and what you groups you could approach. If nothing else feel free to send me a tell in game and i'll see if I can't pull you into a group or two. Please ask any questions and voice any concerns you have, i'll do my best to address them.
  5. Its just North of Ul'dah in Central Thanalan If you follow the road north toward Camp Black Brush you'll run into it.
  6. Hello Ashton, I wish you the best of luck with getting together a group, may I suggest opening an entry in the Linkshell hall under "other"? This serves to host groups from Levithan and Faerie so far and I see no reason you could not add your own to hopefully bring together whom ever may be interested. There is also http://www.reddit.com/r/FFXIVrecruitment which serves as a recruitment aggregate for groups, though most of them are PVE and social groups, it wouldn't hurt! Hope that helps, please let me know if you have any questions, i'll do my best to answer. EDIT: (A link to the "Other" section on the "Linkshells" page in case you missed it. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=15&filtertf_srvr=Other )
  7. Hello Neero, Nice to see another Balmung resident. In case you are not familiar, you can find a list of Linkshells/Free Companies, under the "Linkshells" heading above us (next to the Wiki.) A few key players you might want to take a look at have postings up there, and of course, if you attend one of the events on the approaching weekend you may be able to perform a meet and greet with a few people as well. As an aside, I would suggest going to the Control Panel for your account and entering your character name and server, makes it a bit easier for the lurking people to quickly make note and message you in game or some such. Sounds like you have a good idea of what direction you're heading in, looking forward to seeing you in Eorzea!
  8. Whelp, Let me know if you're unsure about anything else!
  9. No problem! they were likely using /em the "emote" macro, if I for example used /em sighed and flicked the top of his cup sending it spinnin yadda yadda- it would show up as Quarimar Baenund sighed and flicked the top in the light blue, font of normal emotes. there's also /say /shout (usually for trading or reviving in a zone) /yell (not usually used except for urgent commands like in raids) /linkshell1(-9) so you can chat in the private channel /fc (To talk to your free company) There will also be a small "emote" button (looks like a person shrugging) along with the inventory, armory chest and other red dot buttons in game that have all the "/" emotes listed. Hope that helps!
  10. Who? I don't remember meeting anyone by that name ;_; But tell him/her I said hello! Now I have a dejected Lalafellen roleplayer sitting next to me... I'll have to get him a Chai Latte at lunch or something T_T
  11. I haven't run into any issues with Balmung due to it being a Legacy server, and though I've heard differing accounts, plenty of people have told me that Gilgamesh doesn't have any more trolling or stupidity than any other server. At any rate, both will have better and larger RP communities than Faerie, and it's not exactly useful to split the RP community up into a third location for no reason. Not that I'm saying people can't RP on other servers--just that it would be silly for the site to support, advocate, and coordinate it. Hello again Griever, Just to expand on a point of Fayes', Faerie is not the only server with a group of roleplayers either, during the Beta server lock downs and again early in release, many scattered and it would take an amazing amount of time and effort to create, formalize and organize communities in some dozen and a half servers outside of these two. Just hoping to provide a bit of background information. Any luck making the transfer? @Faye- Sasanek says hello, evidently ran into you in Gridania.
  12. Greetings! Good to see you've already started a character and are on the way to opening up the world. As a note, there's a smattering of Forum RP here as well, mostly in the vein of journals, side story lines or events, but lots happening in game too so you can balance to fit your style. Hope to see you in game, please ask and questions and voice any concerns you might have, take a moment to poke around the linkshell hall to see what organizations you might be interested in interacting with etc. To Eorzea! :chocobo:
  13. Sitting around in Ul'dah, everyone was already leaving or deep into a discussion. ran off to see a client before I could strike up conversation. /weep
  14. Hello, Looks like you already had a nice welcome so i'll take a moment to address these questions. RPers are frankly, everywhere. If you have the opportunity to view their "search info" in game, they can tag themselves as looking for particular things. Many roleplayers will have a [RP] or [roleplayer] tag in that area indicating what they are, sometimes with a bit more description. Also, try checking out of the way areas, the upper platforms at Camp Bronze lake. Alleys or around the corner bars and taverns are likely spots, many people like to stay just a touch away from the beaten track. A note on "Guilds" there are "Free companies" formal organizations that have shared storage, ranks, bonus abilities. And "Linkshell", which are private, invite only chat channels. Each has their own handling of IC vs OOC but you can find a list of them, what they do, and where they can be found under the "Linkshells" Heading near the top of this page. Please let me know if you have any additional questions, Hope to see you in Eorzea before too long!
  15. No problem, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I'll also be on Balmung for most of the eve' if you'd prefer to message me there. Best of luck with your friends.
  16. No Welcome message from some one yet?! AHSDJKASHD- HELLLLLLOOOOOOOO and welcome to the RPC, While I don't hob-knob with many cat-folk feel free to stop by and drop me a message if you're on tonight. I try to keep an eye out for active spots if you need any recommendations. I hope you've had the chance to poke around the forums and read the linkshell directory to look for a group that might fit your style. As a note, also check out the Calendar if you don't have any plans for the approaching weekend. I'll be attending the Coffer & Coffin event myself, but there are some 4 groups over the two days (the cruise, C&C, a TTG and a TTGcrafting iirc.) Feel free to ask any questions if you have then, and Hope to see you in Eorzea.
  17. Hello Glimmer, Hope you're having a good time of it so far. Please feel free to ask any questions or voice any concerns you have. While I don't spend most of my time on Gilgamesh I hope you're able to meet and greet your way into a few circles. Best of luck out there.
  18. Hello Phoenix, If you have a moment I would suggest taking a look at the thread discussing RP servers. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3805 The short of it is that Balmung and Gilgamesh will remain as the supported servers for the RPC in the foreseeable future. (for a myriad of reasons, none among them invalidating others choices, but rather emphasizing long term prevention of community fragmenting.) While I wasn't a key person in the discussion i'll do my best to answer any follow up questions you have. Good luck and good hunting!
  19. /salute Greetings! Welcome to the RPC, you've mentioned sleuthing around so i'll skip that part. I'd recommend taking a look at the linkshell directory to get an idea of who you might run into. Please let me know and feel free to ask any questions you might have. Side note, The weeb is strong here, feel free to take a look at the "anime/manga general" post. I myself favor light novels, visual novels, some manga and rarely anime, but I make a point of watching anything I think was well done in other media, or is particularly eye catching/ interesting. Sadly I didn't do so well on my last JLPT but i'm trying to study on my down time T_T.. Hope to see you- !! stole my line. Ah well, Good luck and good hunting!
  20. No problem, Feel free to ask anything else you might need clarification on. /salute
  21. /salute A pleasure to have been a service. I suggest checking out the "Linkshells" directory to get a feel for what communities you might want to poke around or get involved with. If you're ever on Balmung feel free to drop me a message.
  22. No problem with the questions! the clearer your understanding, often the better the experience. So theres /say /em (emote) /shout (orange text usually trading and grouping) /yell (yellow text like "OMG STOP STANDING INF FIRE AHSJDLAHSD") /party (for party fun times) /linkshell1<-9> for your linkshells, like you said they are essentially invite only chat channels, the one for the RPC OOC is "Intermission" but you can read more about them at the "Linkshell" page (its an option along the top menu bar along with the wiki and the Forums) /fc for your free company (which as you said is your guild which has perks & all the goodies such as shared storage and soon^tm housing.) Hope that helps, please let me know if you have any additional questions!
  23. Hello Risheid, While I'm not familiar with the exact distribution of players. I can say with confidence that RP on both servers isn't "far and few between" the informal, inviteless Coffer & Coffin event on the 5th had some 40 attendees alone, and the Formal Cold Moon Gala had some 200. Legacy simply dictates a "mature" (read: pre-existing) community of people from the previous incarnation of FFXIV. There are of course a large amount of new players on both servers. The limitation being that Legacy characters cannot be transferred to "new" servers. Where as new characters can go to either. A note on the non-RP communities, Gilgamesh supports the /r/ffxiv subreddit from reddit.com if you know people there you would be more likely to find them on Gilgamesh. Balmung has a large population from the server mergers in 1.0, active in both PVE and up and coming PVP. While I won't go so far as to say they are the same. They are hardly as drastically different (of course this is anecdotal.) as some would make them appear. Either way, I would, if Roleplay is your primary incentive, suggest transferring. Please feel free to message me in game or ask any further questions here. Best of luck and hope to see you in Eorzea soon!
