Its spotty, at cast first tick is recorded accurately, the following ticks can have a problem being recorded. My logs are usually pretty on par with others for end game. Early dungeons are arguably worse, particularly with arcanists who pick up aero and lightning when there's already a Conj or Thm in the party who actively cast them. Hopefully (fingers crossed) the script for identifying damage live per user will get better as it gets retooled. Also tweaking the setting to remove system messages and superfluous tracking can help the application to not be such a resource hog.

Greeting Bryn, I've done some work on, and highly suggest using http://ffxiv-app.com/ While I worked mostly on the DPS and HPS calculation side, the chat log recorder is quite capable as well. Its still being tweaked but the current build is very stable. Hope that helps, and feel free to ask any questions you have about it. As a note for Scholars, yes it has a problem parsing preventative damage, its an old problem thats still being looked at.

No disagreement there, I had hoped, with Skyrims engine, and the capacity of the Steam workshop, to experience a level of modding sophistication otherwise unavailable in the past. There are some nice overhauls, http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19281//? Being a favorite of mine. But otherwise I was largely disappointed with the glut of texture mods. But onto the books! Looks like I have the first non-personal work to get started on.

Even better! Back to the drawing board then :cactuar:

It was a beautiful time. SE did what arguably many would have balked at, they turned the failure and the desire to rebuild into a story line itself.

A note on the quality for the video I linked, make sure to turn HD on, it'll up the bit rate, but yes, its not the best. Good luck in your search.

use http://www.youtube-mp3.org/ BAM, at least thats why I did to save that bit of Eorzean history for myself. I still kick myself for missing the last two camps I needed in the shroud to have mapped the realm..

Not to nitpick in turn, but I think the "Not of Elderscrolls" isn't so much a refrain from breadth, but of content. Nearly every book in the Elder scrolls (I'm counting Dagger fall and up) contains between 20-30 lines of text, some more, some less. Of course i'm not OP so I can't speak as to exactly what he was meaning, but that is my understanding. providing a synopsis, titles and short excerpts was the goal. I do how ever like some of the names you put forward. I've been toying with "Eorzeaning" some of my own text books left over from Uni, and maybe some of the ones I have through work.

Sounds like you've got a good idea of where you're going and how to get there, hope to see you in Eorzea before too long, and best of luck on your journey!

Oh twelve, good catch, I totally slipped up there. I'd suggest speaking with and coordinating with (if not becoming a member of) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 Xenedra is the leader of the linkshell and it covers OOC for a large portion of RPC members, here would be a good place to pitch ad-hoc events or check for any group leaders that might be interested in collaboration. You could of course PM the leaders or post on the linkshell directory posts themselves as another avenue of contact. Hope that helps! if you're on tonight past 7PM EST feel free to message me if you'd like/need to talk. -
Its the red button that looks like two face one behind the other. That will be your party tab/blacklist/friends list pane. Friends list will require you entering their full name (when they're online).

Black water is certainly and interesting group, Had I more presence on Gilgamesh I would be sorely tempted to join up. I hope you have the chance to get to know the people there and become a part of some narratives. Link your account to here? under the control panel for this website (click on your user name in the upper right and go to "User CP"). then to "Edit profile" on the left you can see a whole slew of boxes to fill in with information about yourself. In game you can only add people to your friends list when they're on line, i'll be on tonight after 7PM EST. If you'd like to speak then.

Well, Balmung and Gilgamesh are the officially supported servers for the RPC. Maybe take a look at the linkshell hall to see what groups might interest you more between the two? I primarily play on Balmung with an alt on Gilgamesh that I faff around with from time to time. But there are plenty of people on both.

Hmm, i'm not sure when/if SE will be introducing a paid name change. I imagine that would open things up to a host of other issues, so maybe down the line in one of the larger 2.X updates? A note about a "free" way to name change. I'm unsure as to whether you want to go this far, but my creating a character on a different server with your primary characters name, then transferring that primary character (the one you want changed) to the server with your new alt, you get a free name change (pre-existing characters take naming precedents.) As for working the name into your potential Duskwight character? that could be interesting... i've always though of the Elezen prideful of their traditions, but you need only look to the wiki of Duskwight clans to see the variance of dispositions. I think the key would be how you work it in. You mention using it as an alias, perhaps he's wanted and thats why he assumed the name? Or maybe it was a tradition of the old band he worked with to provide a name on their entering the crew proper? (Like the skulls and shackles pre-made campaign for DnD, if you know it.) It could have been a trial when he joined, maybe they set a wolf on him when he signed up and instead of fighting it head on he did something particularly clever. Just a thought.

Just as a note, except for very out of the norm events *cough*Lightning*Cough* Most FF games operate within the vacuum, is what I was going to say, but then I remembered all the cross events and references that have been cropping up in a the wake of 10. Suffice to say you don't need to know the other games to know this one. There are some nods to other games, and a few cameos but they're far and few between for the most part. (Cid, Biggs, Wedge etc.) You're right in that you'll create your character and choose your server when you log in for the first time. As far as "how" to roleplay, that can be different depending on the person. I don't do much roleplay on the forums, but I do some coordination there to set up events that i'll then attend in game. But my bread and butter is simply in game interaction, using a series of emotes, the "/em" command, and /say to strike up conversation. I try to focus my efforts in networking at the moment, gathering together crafters, merchants and mercenaries whose skills i'll need as I move forward along my own story, and who I hope to help with theirs when the time comes. On the topic of the website, take your time to get your feet under yourself. There is a lot to take in and it can be a bit daunting, but the reward is a better understanding of the world and people you'll be interacting with. Don't worry too much about learning as you go however, its something I think we all do with one or two aspects, for myself it was Limsa, i've never really cared for pirate folk, but coming to know them through the context of the story made me appreciate them more than I thought I would. Hope that helps, again feel free to ask more questions.

Hello and welcome to the RPC Ouma, A few tips before you get started. take some time to input a character name and server under your control panel when you get up and running, this will make it a bit easier for people to get an idea of what to suggest, and put a name to a face in game. (it'll show up on the left hand side under your picture when you post.) Your welcome to take a look around, peruse the wiki and the forums to fill any gaps in knowledge you might have. Maybe take a look at the Linkshell hall for what groups you might be interested in. I'm not familiar with Guilty crown, but after a quick google it seems interesting, i'll have to add the Manga to my "read" list. I'm not quite sure what you refer to with this, are you unfamiliar with the emotes? or are perhaps unsure of how to meet people? If you can expand on it a little i'll do my best to provide you with some information. We're a pretty friendly bunch, being a newbie is nothing new (heh) so don't feel worried about asking questions, its all part of the learning process! Best of luck out in Eorzea!

Glad to help! I (personally) think the idea of continuing a character would be interesting.. but like how Lightning raised quite the rabble when they announced her FATE I would prepare yourself for a little ogling. Its not unheard of though, I know a certain Doctor has shown up from time to time around Eorzea. On the note of linkshells I recommend all Gilgameshers (n's? ites? bah) take a look at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 I don't know Rock that well, but his comments and commitment are dedicated to promoting Roleplayers in a variety of forms.

Hello Taleth! I'll do my best to address your questions, but in the mean time welcome to the RPC, nice to see some more EQ1 veterans taking the plunge. I don't see any problem with deviating from your "IRL" persona, unless i'm misunderstanding an you meen having (for example) A hyur character that you roleplay as Elezen, which.. while interesting, might cause a few eyebrows to raise. I'm sure you're familiar since you've been around the mmo scene, but so much of our initial information is reliant on observation that it could throw some people for a loop. How ever if I go back to the idea that you perhaps mean playing a male character when you're female, well there's plenty already and they do pretty well! As well as the opposite. I myself am a Duskwight Elezen with dark skin, but my "real" self couldn't be more Aquitaine in apperance. Varies from person to person, there is an understandable desire among some (myself included.) to keep most IRL references tangential at best for the sake of preserving the illusion, hard to see a character named Elmnister and not think of Ed Greenwoods novels no matter how good the Roleplayer is. Just an opinion, each person has their own triggers. Oh yeah, thats why you'll find a lot of the Character directories have the tag "light" "medium" or "heavy" RP, while these don't always mean how often you're in character, it does give a general idea. Lots of people are progression players or favor Dungeons and Guildhests, some even work them into the RP. We're a pretty inclusive bunch. I'd take a look at the Linkshell hall linked along the top bar of this page and see if any of those linkshells/free companies interest you. If one strikes your fancy, make a post or maybe PM them. You can usually run into a member or two out and about if that doesn't work, each has their intricacies, but all are rewarding when you become familiar with them. I wouldn't go so far as to say "new" as much as "alternative", just another option for people who aren't fond of Legacy or are part of other communities. Hope that helps! feel free to ask any more questions you might have, drop me a tell in game or meander around the Forums at your leisure. Good luck and good hunting in Eorzea!

New to FFXIV, looking to make connections on Balmung
Olofantur replied to Mojo Jojo's topic in Welcome Desk
Greetings You evil evil monkey, Cool to see that your FC is interested in some Roleplay! While I can't suggest any Linkshells off the bat you might be able to talk to about collaboration (being a terminal hermit.) I can say that they are by and large a friendly bunch and a simple PM here will likely get you a response before too long. If you have the chance please recommend the RPC to your fellow Free Company RP interested members, always good to mix a few more people into the pot, and they can ask question, poke around the threads, maybe throw a character profile up on the wiki (which I highly suggest taking a look at if you want to know a bit more about a particular person or group.) There is of course also the Calendar which will provide a list of events! A tip on organizing a linkshell? Hrm, well you can hardly go amiss by selecting strong and consistent officers, obvious I know, but moving forward they can help with all manner of coordination. I've always been a fan of "guild meetings" in previous games. We were a fairly large group so we did it once a month for all members, not mandatory, and then a officers that was also monthly, alternating on every second weekend. It might seem a bit much, and while a community is small i'm sure it can be forgone, but over the course of two and a half years it helped (or at least felt like it did) provide a sense of more "grand" involvement even for people who aren't the most vocal. Just food for thought. Best of luck with your recruiting, please feel free to ask any questions or voice any concerns you might have! -
Might as well use the resources at hand!

Follow up, here's one of the thread at the start of the new server shenanigans back in June. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=2227 this is and many other discussions/votes are what lead to Gilgamesh. Also, thanks for throwing in some points Faye, i'm a bit hopped up on sleep deprivation at the moment so i'm rambling.

Unlikely, and not advisable in the current climate, in an effort to consolidate members, events and the communities they interact with one was designated in 1.0, and another in 2.0 due to a whole host of factors you can read about in the thread I linked earlier. Balmung was chosen as a result of the server merger of Besaid in 1.0 where many RPers were at the time. Gilgamesh is the new 2.0 server, again for a variety of reasons (if you want me to go into detail just ask). A note on server limitation, the RPC does not say "NO ROLEPLAY ELSEWHERE" it says "we support these servers" they had (in the case of Balmung) the majority of people, and in the case of Gilgamesh in 2.0, the majority of the votes for designated secondary server. Ehe queue time is simply an element of the game regardless of the game and the role, its not purely a "roleplayer" issue, so its not something that should (in my opinion) be addressed as a problem, popular servers are just that, popular. People will be able to do what they love regardless of server, and there isn't a order in the world that will stop them, Again the RPC does not represent the entirety of Roleplayers in FFXIV, There's a large group of roleplayers on Sarganates who keep to themselves and have their own site. Admins aren't "random people" they're a dedicated group who have been with this game since 1.0, in 2010, hells I wasn't even among them but I certainly saw them. It was a public vote, you can look it up in the forums, everyone who has an account here had the chance to vote and did. It was hotly discussed, and the fact that Reddit chose the server was brought up, but surprise, many people here are Redditors or interact with the community. Small addendum, sorry if any of this sounds trite, I've just been over this conversation more times than I care to count, please let me know if anything needs clarification and i'll do my best to address the points you raise.

Hello Bentii, I'll make a reply to the majority of your questions, but as a quick note, this topic is old and thoroughly vetted out, you can read the majority of the prior discussion (such as choosing Gilgamesh) at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3805 But i'll also make an effort to answer your questions here in a second post.

I think that works admirably, supposedly Ul'dah was around before Sil'dih fell, so perhaps an early Lalafelln' scholar who lived in Ul'dah and visited Sil'dih had copies made that were later circulated in Ul'dah (and greater Eorzea) which would lend credence to it as a dated text and one that's heavily analyzed. Hmm...
