  1. Twelve that was a hell of a lot better than mine. I'll stand by my excuse of not writing it a lot and only reading/speaking it during meetings/ with family!
But i'll switch back to english for a while. Here's another Linkshell, this one for everyone, lots of people. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 To continue, here's a link to the "welcome" post where you can read a small overview of the Roleplay resources here. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome please feel free to message me and let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Edit: should mention, I still have family there! a lot of them, though there are many of us in Quebec as well my family still has a home in Gamaches.
  3. With the differences between the clans I think it unlikely there would be a single "Elezen" shell, how ever I know that the "Duskwight Discussion" thread mentioned creating a Duskwight only one a few times, unsure how it panned out... A note on the differences between the clans, its show in game time and time again that theirs a racial pride amoungst the wildwood and even the duskwight but a strong dislike between the two clans, hence their "nick-names" for each other "Greens" and "Greys" which you've probably seen, but I think still interesting to reflect on. Theres more than just that of course, but I don't want to ramble >_<
  4. There are certainly a lot of nuances that can be applied, Either way, while I do have a few tentative engagements tonight I would be more than happy to chalk up another. I usually pop in around 6pm EST, and stay around fairly late. (I mark myself as AFK in search info if i'm cooking dinner and the like.) I'll be around Gridania early in the night and likely move to Ul'dah and Thanalan in general later. Feel free to send me a tell if there is still interest! and get your friend in here too, the more the merrier
  5. Probably beating a dead horse with this But thank you for spoilering the Map images EVG!!! Also, am I the only one who had hoped the Lance was a bit... bigger? in length that is. The Axe as well feels kinda weird..
  6. I've seen the same thing happen, I'll sit at the bar and sip my drink while i'm talking OOcly in a Linkshell, just to show that I can be talked to and help add to the "living" element of the setting, but sometimes I get this horrible feeling that others are hoping to have people burst in and engage them. Or perhaps worse (for me) is when some one sits next to me just moments before I stand up because i've been asked to help else where. I know you were standing around for a while and I know it likely took a while to think of a probable reason to engage me, and whipping small talk out of thin air isn't easy for everyone I'M SORRY I WANT TO TALK TO YOU TOO I just had the dungeon queue for AK pop and I really want those Myth tomes /weep
  7. Everyone else already covered the major points, so Hello! and welcome! Fayes suggestion of the Harbingers of Dawn are a good sort, I don't know them too well, but i've met a few of their members. Aysun and S'anhu both put up links to the "Linkshell hall" where you'll find a whole host of others. I'd take a look at "Intermission", a good OOC channel to get you "in the thick of it" as it were. Plenty of people, ideas and opportunities floating around there. Hope you have an enjoyable time in Eorzea, and if you ever see me running about feel free to say hello!
  8. Greetings Saran! You joined in October, you knew! you knew we were here! Either way, as the two above me have said, welcome to the RPC, sounds like you have quite a bit of experience under your belt, so i'll skip the "read this to know how to RP" and get right to the juicy bits. mmmm forum juice... ANYWAYS, http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome That welcome post will give you a nice little outline of the major tools featured here that you might want to take a look at. For example the Calendar, a list of events that might interest your character, some require applications, some you can just jump in to! Looks like you already have a linkshell, but if you have room for one or two more, I highly recommend taking a look at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 Intermission is a fairly large OOC shell for collaboration, communication and general shennaniganry, make some friends, meet them at places the usual. If you keep odder hours, (specifically EU odd) "Europa" might fit the bill better. OOC as well. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3026 Hope that helps your find some interesting people to start a few narratives with. Best of luck in Eorzea!
  9. Haha, the server locks are (iirc) based on users logged on at the time (esentially if the server has a queue of more than a few people its locked down.) This how ever meens that during "off hours" or uncommon play-days, it opens up for new people. Hope that helps you understand it a bit. For the dungeons, on Gilgamesh not really sure who would be good to talk to, perhaps the Coalition linkshell? On Balmung at least feel free to add me to your friendslist even if just to abuse me as a Dungeon helper, I love PVE content, I have a damage dealer and a healer at 50, my Tanks are 30 and 20 respectively so I should be able to help you along most of them with a shortened queue time. (That offers open to anyone reading this! for reals, I love dungeons...) Retainers are an amazing boon, because you can have two of them. I actually put together a little spread sheet separating their inventory by retainer/tab and material, but I just like spread sheets... Tah-tah for now! :cactuar:
  10. Oh twelve looks like you've got the cat-folk with their backs up, you know how the tribal ones can be so I hope it doesn't worry you. Greetings and Welcome to the RPC, Roleplaying in your non-native language can be difficult, I often run into times when I feel English just isn't up to the task of expressing certain high-minded ideals but i've gotten used to it over the last few years and hopefully people will be as helpful towards you as they were towards me. Rinh pointed out the primary EU shells we have here, so i'll take a moment to throw in another recommendation that is more over-arching. Intermission is an OOC shell available to all RPCers. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 If you'd like a bit of refreshed of Roleplay guidelines I can't recommend a better read than, http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 while it covers lots you might already know it does touch on some key points that I think are good to keep in mind. Lastly, if you have a few minutes, please take a look at the following "welcome" post from the admin/mods here at the RPC, it addresses a few of the key features of the RPC. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Hopefully that helps set you on your way with a bit of confidence and trust that this community is all about helping people get together for roleplay. If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to post them here or elsewhere in the forums. Take care in Eorzea, and if you see me abouts Ul'dah come say hello!
  11. Hiya Hiccup, Welcome to the RPC! good to hear you've already had the chance to meet some people and run around with Driftwood Coast. Since you're on Gilgamesh I recommend getting a hold of some one from the Coalition LFRP linkshell, (found here http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 ) Aside from that the RPC website itself has a whole host of tools at your disposal, here's a link to the welcome post that gives you a bit of detail about each, http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome So feel free to bum around the forums, maybe raise a question or two, stop in at the Lantern and read an article, who knows! best of luck on your journey, and in Eorzea. As far as leveling goes, have you checked out the guild you started from? maybe you skipped over the level 20 quest, there are of course also leves, hunting logs, FATEs, you're past level that you can start dungeons/guildhests so those are good ideas. Maybe hit up that little Sylph village in the East shroud? I can't remember Gridanias leveling route well...
  12. Hrm, I'm not sure how well I would fit the role as (by your Europa linkshell) I'm not sure if we'd be online around the same time (i'm MST.) But if you'd like i'll be around tonight, (or here.) and we could discuss the idea. Quarimar leans towards Thaumaturgy with little forays into Conjury and Alchemy, so while herbs of a hard to find nature would interest me, tomes, specimens (bugs and the like), and even elementally attuned objects would be something that I would likely pay more for. Trading them for knowledge in aetherial manipulation is an interesting idea. Thoughts? Oh and Quarimar is only 34, not including the time he missed, hardly old, but maybe it'll work. food for thought! EDIT: if I don't fit the bill, you might want to take a look at http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3321 They might have a fellow or two who could work with you.
  13. http://www.di.fm/# http://www.sky.fm/ Between those two I usually stay fairly pleased, i'll throw in some http://www.rainymood.com/ from time to time, but I mostly just plug away while listening to classical, the OST for Amadeus is a good one.
  14. Oh! many thanks, I just try to nudge people towards it if I can, a little exposure can go a long way.
  15. Always happy to help. I also suggest taking a look at "The Travellers Guild" or pretty much any group on the linkshell hall to be honest If you keep odd hours and you see me running about Ul'dah don't hesitate to flag me down.
  16. Salutations Riza! I've heard of the linkshell "OOC: RP network" in passing before, if you have the chance would you be able to ask the leader to make a posting on the RPCs linkshell hall? If they don't mind of course. As far as meeting more people, I can't offer a better place than http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3026 and http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 The first is "Europa" and OOC linkshell that centers around EU hours, the second is "Intermission" a more over arching OOC linkshell for pretty much anyone. As far as "taverns in the bigger cities" people are likely referring to the adventurers guilds where the Inn and Leve providers are located. At the crux of it these areas have a lot of seating, something the Rpers tend to gravitate towards. Theres' a forum post of "RP hot spots" that you can take a look at for a more in depth guide. the RPC itself has a few tools you can use to get to know the people. there are the forums of course with many different topics where you can collaborate and plan to your hearts content. The Wiki provides snippits of Lore and Character profiles. The Calendar lists RP events and so on. Here's a little link that goes over it a bit more. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome If you have any follow up questions feel free to let me know, best of luck in Eorzea!
  17. Greetings and welcome to the RPC Brynn I'm a lurker at heart as well, so I understand the desire to fully grasp the basis or the world your entering before stepping foot in it. Partly to ensure fidelity, and also because I hate making an ass of myself/am easily embarrassed when I think i've messed up. Or maybe thats just me. anyways! Faye makes an excellent recommendation with the Harbingers of Dawn, while I don't know many of their members, the ones i've met are a pleasant sort. So i'll add a few of my own suggestions, they're contextual depending on what you're looking for and your obligations, but I think they'll help set you on your way. As a note, an ingame tell to one of the Pearl holders, or a post on the given linkshell entry is usually enough to get you an invite. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 Is the "Intermission" Linkshell, set up as a sort of OOC hub for roleplayers to meet, to chat and find out who is where with what and why. Large and on their third iteration, a good place to dip your toes. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5335 Is smaller, but just as focused on helping people find others who are looking for roleplay in a given area, or with a certain focus. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3026 Is another OOC group, how ever focused on EU time zones (since I couldn't find yours I thought i'd throw it in, maybe you keep their hours.) You might know about some of the following links, but just incase... http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome that welcome post outlines a few of the resources here at the RPC, the lantern, calendar, all that fun stuff. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Is a RP handbook made by Eva, very informative and sectioned so that you can read over what you might feel you want to improve on. It covers fairly common territory, but does it well and with detail. As far as Lore itself is concerned. I pull from a variety of sources, treating the game as "primary" I also use the wiki on this site as well as the following sources. (Caution, some of their information is from 1.0, make sure to check the post date.) http://xivwiki.com/Main_Page http://gamerescape.com/category/ffxiv/ http://www.ffxivmaps.com/old.html Ah well, rambling aside, the RPC is a pretty open group, with many conversations, no doubt you may encounter a topic you were thinking of in the forums, and if not you can always make your own! Hope to see you around in Eorzea before too long, make sure to stop by and say hello if you're in Ul'dah!
  18. I presume 1 gil is worth 1-0.5USD, mostly because foodstuffs and reagents can be in the realm of 4-20 (from the culinarian supplier for example.) But thats just me.
  19. Ah DnD, good times, any particular edition? I'm playing mostly Pathfinder these days with some Call of Cthulhu on the side. Good to hear that you've had the opportunity to become familiar with the RPC, as well as meeting some people in the wild. The taverns in the main cities are logical hot spots, as well as pretty much anywhere with "seating", i'm a fan of using the small set of tables in Ul'dahs airship bay as a small meeting point before venturing out of the city. The gutter and I have a love/hate relationship, normally I wouldn't have much to cringe from, but if I leave the mind in their long enough, and let it "wander" it can reach some revolting concepts or mental images. Works been flaky, so I haven't had something to keep it consistently busy lately.
  20. Greetings and welcome to the RPC Poet, Before I go into the usual pre-amble, I enjoyed Everquest a lot, while it did certainly have its flaws, its been a long time since i've seen something like it. Has your roleplay been primarily in games or do you have some offline as well? Either way, I have found roleplay an excellent way of flexing the mental muscle. If you'd like a small introduction to the RPC you can find one at the following link, it also outlines a few of the tools we have here for everyone to use. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome I'll skip the Roleplay hand book, but if you'd ever like to take a look, its on the front page, in the center, you just click the tile "RP Handbook" then the central image if you're unfamiliar. I'd also suggest joining in one of the OOC coordination linkshells, they help(ed me) meet up with all sorts of people and make connections fairly easily. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 Is one of the big ones, but there's also "Europa" for EU players, and "The seekers" A simple message on their linkshell page, or an in game tell will get you invited in most cases. There's also a RPC skype channel if you'd like an invite, though I can't for the life of me find the thread at the moment, its just chatter, usually not about any one thing. As always, feel free to ask any questions you might have, raise any concerns, voice an opinion or two, maybe indulge in some shennaniganz... Good luck on your journey, no matter where it takes you! :chocobo: Oh! and don't tell me what I can and can't do with my mind, maybe its better in the gutter, maybe I put it there for a time out!
  21. Greetings and welcome to the RPC Ephemerality, Forum RP is where I did the bulk of mine for a period, and while I have a bit more MMO experiance, I think a lot of the lessons you learn on the forums carry over fairly well. But either way, here are a few links that might help set you on your way. This welcome post provides a small outline of the bulk of the RPCs resources (the wiki, calendar and all that stuff.) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome The following hand book of Roleplaying by Eva is more of a guideline than a mantra, but I find it a great refresher if i've taken a break, and it helps fill in blanks that people might have from only RPing in one setting or another. There's a index at the top, so you can skip over areas you already feel confident in. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Aside from that, as far as groups go, there have already been a few recommended, and if you send me a tell in game i'm sure I can nose around to find a few additional, but for now here are two that I usually suggest. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 Is the Intermission OOC channel where you can meet people from the RPC find out where people are, what they're doing, make a few friends and have a laugh. You did how ever mention having "during the day hours" so perhaps http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3026 Might be better for you, while its a primarly EU linkshell, the time difference might meen that more people are online when you are. they're both great groups how ever so "why not both?" as the commercial says. All that aside, please remember that the RPC is by roleplayers for roleplayers, if you have questions, comments, concerns, ideas, anything, feel free to make a post in the given thread, or make your own. Heck post em' here if you'd like. Any who, back to work for me, best of luck in Eorzea! :cactuar:
  22. Canadian Lurkers represent! I spent months here without an account, and didn't post much at first even why I had one If you've been around that long, i'll skip the usual introduction and go straight to the Welcome to the RPC! I see you've already made an entry on the character directory, have you thought about posting a wiki page yet? (The wiki uses the same log in as the website, so no fear of account management!) And yes Roe are awesome, I'm an Elezen myself, but tall folk need to stick together, far too much shin damage going around. Hope to see you in Eorzea.
  23. Greetings and welcome to the RPC! Pen and paper roleplay, what kinds? I'm doing mostly Pathfinder these days with a smattering of 3.5 & Call of C. Are you fond of premades or mostly doing homebrew? I'll admit I like homebrew a lot but the last JadeReagent I was in was a lot of fun, and we even managed to make the cooking skill check! French-Canadians for the win, although I live out west now the majority of my family still lives in Quebec (A lot of us in Alma, around lake Saint-Jean.) If you have a few minutes the welcome post linked below serves to outline most of the resources here at the RPC. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome And if you'd like an in-depth guide to Roleplay (though as a pen & Paper'r you can skip certain elements.) There's naught out there quite like Evas' at http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Aside from that I recommend getting in touch with a pearl holder for "Intermission" a large set of linkshells focused on OOC coordination that can be found at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 Of course if you have any questions, comments or concerns you're more than welcome to post them here or to send me a message in game. Hope that helps set you on your way, Best of luck in Eorzea!
  24. Why not just bump weapons? I'd make a "docking" joke, but I don't want to get shanked. :tonberry: edit: or I could point out that in the top image near the left hand upper corner there are two fingers pointing towards the "X" that look like Goatse, but that might be a bit tasteless.
  25. Will do, command. Also, I MADE THE FRONT PAGE! WOO! /weep, thank you so much, the little nuby header bars sticking out on the right were driving me crazy, so thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou
