    Hello!

I recommend sending them a tell in game first just to check, some people who have been around for a while might be a bit full, or (at least in my case) I try not to overlap contacts (If some ones in my FC or linkshell, I usually don't friend them, unless we swap mail regularly)
  2. Greetings Rinette! I've seen you lurking around a little bit so i'll skip the usual deluge of links and get to the "Holy crap another Gaia player!" admittedly theres hundreds of thousands, so not really that surprising, but still! I kinda miss Barton town, I only check in every few months to see how its doing. (the ZOMG, MMO kind of tie in with the housing was really interesting, if a bit buggy...) If you don't mind me asking, what server did you play on in WoW? I was A Steamwheedlin' most of the time, but I had been a part of Twisting Nether and WRA at one point, although briefly. Cool to see you've already started on a wiki page! they're awesome for letting people know what might be the best way to approach a character. A lot of people might not realize it, but the wiki gets literal hundreds of page views (the last time I asked) so its more read than people think! If your already geared and would like a stable group to roll with, I'd suggest looking at "Balmungs Finest" in the Linkshell hall, I know I know, I said I wouldn't provide any links, but its just so tempting! Anywho, good luck out in Eorzea, and best of luck with your adventures! :cactuar:

    Hello!

Hello and welcome to the RPC Cecili! I'm going to start off with a bit of link spam, as a note, Gharen already mentioned them by name but i'll just touch on them a bit more. please feel free to ask any questions you might have, the RPC is by roleplayers, for roleplayers, you can see a wealth of information on the player made wiki hosting character profiles and much else! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome That is a welcome post put together for the whole RPC, it covers some of the tools as well as giving you a little blurb about the site itself, where, who, when and all that. You've said your familiar to roleplay, and MMO doesn't vary too much from type to type, but if you have the chance, http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 This hand book written by the illustrious Eva is still highly informative. well organized and comprehensive I don't think theres a better baseline out there. But maybe you just want to jump into the community, here are the links to the two linkshells Gharen mentioned, highly recommended for pretty much anyone! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" Is an OOC hub chat channel where you can meet lots of different people doing lots of different things. Want to know why everyones in Costa on sunday? heres a good place to ask! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is dedicated to the PVE content of Eorzea, from Sastacha Seagrot to The Praetorium, if its group content there's a group waiting to do it! this initiative is all about building the community server side before branching out. A great way to get to know people is to see them under duress! If you'd like to read a bit about the Lore, The wiki has a few notes, but another great resource is: http://xivwiki.com/Main_Page (For lore and lots else!) Hmm with that out of the way, Nice to see an Elezen! even if you are wildwood! (there's some racial tension canonically in game between the two sub-sets so if you run into duskwights being a bit of a jerk, chances are its just an IC thing! they even have names for each other "Greens" and "Greys".) Mmmm Grape Jelly.. though i'm a sucker for jam on a general level.. Ah well, hope to see you in Eorzea! and never fear to ask a question or two! (I know I know, already said it, but seriously!) twelve knows theres some one who can provide an answer lurking around somewhere.. :cactuar:
  4. If you look though, the maelstrom has a highlight around it unlike the other two, while we don't know for certain i'd think it limits you to one or the others while you PvP... maybe? Or perhaps you have different selection pages and you just have to unlock each and can pull from the whole pool..
  5. Hmm interesting, the Maelstrom is the highlighted Grand company under "PVP" So perhaps there is a GC-PVP action tie in? The bar along the bottom of the panel outlines that you can have a max of 10 "pvp" abilities, the scroll bar and 4 non-selected abilities show that there might be quite a few. The Diamonds are curious, I thought they might be based on your rank, each diamond being one major rank up, but because they're not in order i'm hesitant to place much weight behind the idea.. It doesn't appear to be tied to the ability type, 2 diamond "Glory smash" and 3 Diamond "Skewer" both sound like 'attack' abilities. Maybe some kind of resource PVP related that is consumed upon their usage? like a combo bar filled up in fighting games? Hrm..
  6. *cough*Otherland did it first*cough* ;3 The reminds me of the "Otherland" mmo http://otherland.gamigo.com/en/ Its a shame its kind of crud. Also, I really enjoyed "River of Blue Fire" hot damn, those prose.
  7. I'm going to preface this with a big fat "If you've already looked at the linkshell hall, then you can ignore this, if you haven't looked at the linkshell hall, look at the linkshell hall." with that to the side, i'll recommend the two notables that get a lot of traction with most people. As an note you'll have to contact them, (in most cases.) group leaders assume that prospective members will seek them out. But anyways! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" while an OOC channel, everyone there is a roleplayer in one way or another. You are unlikely to find a better way to meet the people of Balmung, find out where they are, what they might be up to and all that Jazz. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is a PVE oriented Linkshell dedicated to, like you asked "Balmung dungeoners" placing grouping there above using the duty finder to help OOCly, strengthen ties and make DPS hate the queue a little less. As a note, groups in BF run the gamut from Sastasha to Coil, so until you find a static group for content, this is a great place to check, and even after you do find a static group filling vacancies with reliable people is a nice change over shouting outside wineport. Hope that helps, I could recommend a few more, but the communities are nuanced and it can be best to speak with them individually on their posting or in game to see if it fits you. Good luck out in Eorzea! :chocobo:
  8. Welcome to the RPC Ilwe'ran, Since you've already for a wiki page up and have been lurking around for a while i'll skip the deluge of links. I hope Europa and perhaps the Travellers Guild are serving you well. Twelve knows they have lots of interesting people, and the event at the Wolves den nearly a moon ago was interesting. Hope to see you out and about in Eorzea, Safe Journey!
  9. Greetings Pascht, and welcome to the RPC. An interesting studies choice, was the intention to work with them in a more getting them set off in the right style manner, (please excuse my lack of knowledge about the division between roles.) Or more "fresh". Perhaps in a Hospital instead? So where else have you roleplayed? I've got a mixture of forum and table top experience aside from MMOS, mostly DnD (3.5 and pathfinder mainly, though some Shadow run and CoC.), some "Gaia online" years ago.. I think just a few months after Kiki was released, and I didn't stay around long after Coco. Either way, perhaps you've seen in my posts if you've been lurking, but I have a few links that I hope you will find informative, maybe give you a few things to read, some people to meet and all that jazz. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Is a generic welcome post that outlines both the RPCs history, as well as the resources here at everyones disposal. The Calendar, Wiki, Lantern and more. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Since you mentioned being fairly new to Roleplay in MMOs this guide book from Eva may address a few things you are unfamiliar with, or at the very least provide a fairly comprehensive outline of how some people treat 'gray' areas. You likely know much of it already if you have experience in Roleplaying, but I think its a good base line. Now if you'd like to jump in and get to meet some of the people out in the wide world, here are a few linkshells that might fill the role. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 Intermission is an OOC hub for roleplayers, meet, greet, gather, chatter. A great resource to find out where people are, what they might be up to and if they're open to more company. If you're looking for something more focused on the dungeons (although you can always join both!) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" has you covered. From Brayflox, to Titan, and hopefully the new Hardmode dungeons as well. BF is all about grouping people here on Balmung before using the "Duty finder." And for your Gilgamesh character there is Coalition! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 And OOC hub like Intermission. Keep in mind that there are some events coming up on the Calendar, the more formal speed meet, quick times, plenty of people. As well as the Coffer and Coffin Tavern on Balmung, an open event to all who want to come for as long as they will, unstructured the doors are "thrown open" as it were. Hope that helps see you into the world with a bit better of an idea of what might be out there. As always feel free to ask any questions you might have, maybe send a Message to a linkshell leader or two to ask them questions. I'll be around if theres any help I can provide :cactuar:
  10. Good question! http://i.imgur.com/nhTm07A.jpg Female Hellsguard are the rarest race/gender combo (on most servers and main characters only.) Though the polls were done a while ago. The statistics are pretty interesting, I found the class dispersal particularly so..
  11. Like wise! And i'll admit, I was kind of distracted by the Magna Carta and other works to properly identify everything that was on display My understanding of the ability to make mistakes was both due to, as you say Vellums nature, as well as the ink, seeing as it acts more like a Bob Ross wet-on-wet mixture until deliberately dried. ...I could go on about that for days. But anyways, Safe journeys. :chocobo:

Its alright, your speaking with the king of the arseholes anyways. I'll try to pop in and grab you an invite!
  13. They (in most cases) have some one listed as a recruited, for Balmungs Finest the list is on the cover page, intermission you can just post to the linkshell entry and some one should mention when they're online. Lots of us show up early, and stay very late to account for the differing time zones, so you'll at least get to see a couple people! When I was in London in August and had the chance to (among many other things) visit the British Library and view some of the laid out pages it was fascinating to observe them. While my interest was most in the treaties (such as James the 2nd letter to the Shogunate, Napoleans captured letter to Josephine and the musical texts.) The illuminated scriptures, mostly fables were always quite interesting. The depth of detail, particularly in the Title works (Names & locations of events) is astounding, though admittedly the kind of people who commissioned that work demanded it. Or in the case of the Church they could hardly be expected to do less. Two handed swords in the Germanic style? Hrm I tried to find a good picture along the lines of a few texts i've looked at but there wasn't much online aside from. Forgive the "noobishness" of the questions related, but does the style use the weapon as a blunt object as much as an actual blade? I always found it interesting the amount of grappling that happens, or even clubbing them with the haft to unbalance. the utilization of the weapon as a whole. I don't know much of Hans Talhoffer, aside from his germanic roots and role as a representative of the Arch Bishop of Salzburg. Interesting how the focus of the groups leans to the Celtic "Albion" days, I imagine most of the representations of combat you would have to work off of would be depictions in tapestries, or formal accounts of battles, maybe Frankish Manuscripts about skirmishes with people of Brittany? Interesting stuff none the less. I've read through copies of copies of records about the Battle of Agincourt, going so far as to look at the Carol, but aside from troop movements, notes of the dead, there wasn't much. Though I imagine skimming for the sake of picking out names dulled me to some nuances. Ah well Best of luck in your endeavor to begin your armor working, Twelve knows its Eorzean counterpart will be easier on the hands!

Hope you managed to get an invite to Balmungs Finest yesterday, sorry that I only contacted you as I was winding down for the night :
  15. OH twelve! the starbound OST is so beautiful! "Atlas" [video=youtube] Would be one of my own for Quarimar.
  16. Greetings and Welcome to the RPC Hammer, Good to hear you've had the chance to jump into the game and are enjoying it so far, it certainly is on a different level that 1.0, and even more so, pre-yoshida 1.0. Its good to see that you've already taken a look at the Calendar and might be joining in the http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=event&eid=56 Speed meet. As a note there is also http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=event&eid=55 The Coffer and Coffin event, a little more "fly by your pants" maybe you can drop in, not time requirment or duration. Both great opportunities to get to know some of the people you might meet out in the world, or maybe connect with some one you have already seen but haven't had the chance to talk to much. Here are a few more links that may (or may not.) help you along. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome That welcome post outlines a few of tools here at the RPC, like the calendar, the wiki, the lantern (my favorite.). As well as telling you a bit about us as a whole. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 This RP Handbook might seem a bit of a retread of what you might already know, but I think Eva makes a good point in outlining topics, providing examples and leaving the conclusion open to a personal interpretation. But on to the communities! since you've been here for a week maybe you haven't had the chance to see them running about. I'll recommend two for now, unless you have something more specific in mind you're looking for. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" Is an OOC hub for Roleplayers on Balmung, This can be used to find where people are, what they might be up to, if they're open for another participant and all that jazz. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" Focuses on the PVE. From dungeons, to Primals 'BF' is an attempt to group people on server before relying on cross server through the duty finder. You'll find all types here doing all sorts of content, from Sastasha to Titan. Phew, well with the deluge of formality out of the way, thats very interesting that you're studying armored combat, do they focus on a particular weapon set or does it cover a wider array of weapon types vs armor types. I'm familiar (to a certain extent) with the Blunt vs Plate, etc ideals but most of my history for medieval Europe is centered around the politics, language and arts. Mostly on the Carolingian dynasty, the Capets/Valois to a lesser extent and a few other major families. (Henry the 8ths holy water sprinkler has to be one of my favorite weapons though that was on the Tail end of the time period.) And "Resting bitch face" that goes along with the "Stick-up-arse" face a lot of Elezens have, though many of us are jerks, so perhaps there's a correlation. Any who, feel free to ask any question you might have, sleuth around the forums for a bit to find a conversation you might be interested in. Hope to see you in Eorzea!
  17. Why wouldn't it be? I would agree (with it being tank gear.), I imagine it being like the darklight/allagan gear "role" based.
  18. D: I totally thought I shared the link on most peoples "welcome" post, sorry If I missed it for you! I'm in the second linkshell, if you're around tonight i'll do my best to nose around until you get an invite.
  19. Greetings and welcome to the RPC Rin, Never fear for length! A comprehensive outline of character and personality make it so much easier for people to feel confident in addressing one another at least in my experience. Good to hear you've already had the chance to meet interesting people, I've found, particularly in the Adventurers guilds (or anywhere with seating that has decent foot traffic.) is pretty good for spontaneous encounters. Anywho~, here are some links that may or may not help you on your way. As a note, you can always ask questions, make comments and all that fun stuff, there are a lot of people here that i'm sure would be more than happy to provide their own perspective on some of the more nuanced ideas, or even just letting you know where to get some of the fancier clothes. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Is a welcome post that you might have run into, it covers outlining most of the tools here at the RPC as well as a little background information about the site. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Is a roleplay hand book put together by the illustrious Eva, while you likely already have a firm grasp of many of the topics discussed, there are a few areas that she touches on that may be informative even for the more experienced of us. If nothing else its another view point. But on to the communities! I try no to make a habit of plugging IC groups because there is such great variation of them, and variation of desire among roleplayers I truly think the best advice is to just go out and meet them, but here are a few out of character linkshells that might help provide a bit of entertainment along the way. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is dedicated to getting roleplayers together in game, providing a stage to get to know people, to introduce yourself, to find where people are, what they are doing, maybe check if some one that you've run into in Ul'dah is afk, or just immersed in their own story. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is all about the PVE, be it Brayflox or Titan, speed running for tomes, doing it for the storyline or just farming for the illusive Battlemages gloves, this group will help people get reliable and server based groups to plug away at content. Maybe you've already done the story dungeons, "but wait theres more!" as one might say. Rambling aside, Best of luck in Eorzea!
  20. Greetings Oran! and welcome to the RPC. DDO? hot damn! I might not be a huge Eberron fan, but I loved some of the class skills in that game, the level of traps/enchantments in dungeons was a lot of fun. Any who~, its cool to hear some one "connect" with the game as it were, I still hit rocky patches as I cling to a few of my 1.0 desires, but an engaging world was certainly provided and it deserves to be explored. Waxing poetic aside, here are a few links that might help you on your way through Eorzea and the RPC. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome That general welcome post touches on the major tools here (Calendar, Wiki etc.) as well as giving you a general overview of the RPC. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 This is a lengthy, well written and comprehensive guide to "roleplay" sounds kind of nebulous, but if you dig into it a bit, maybe skim to the parts you feel you'd like a second opinion on, you'll find an informative outline rife with suggestions, examples and ideas. But onto the communities, maybe you just want to jump in and get the proverbial feet wet. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is an OOC linkshell dedicated to roleplayers, in a general sense getting to know each other. It serves a lot of different specific roles, finding where people might be, finding out what they might be up to, if they're open to people joining them ect. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is to help with the Dungeon itch, if you get those.. I do, I think somethings going around. Particularly with the necessity of Dungeon completion for GC rank ups and story parts, the Finest provide a server based source of people, all the way from Brayflox to Titan! Hope that gives you an idea of whats out there, maybe give you something you hadn't considered. If nothing else there are plenty of people here who will be willing to answer questions that you might have. The forums are always open for more discussion and you can flag me down in game if you have something there thats troubling you as well! Good luck out there Oran :cactuar:
  21. Haha theres actually quite a few of us Canadians around! and with a French Heritage at that, admittedly most of the ones I speak to keep it on the down low. (Mostly because it just never really comes up.) Good luck out there and i'll be around... once i'm done digging myself out of the snow. :chocobo:
  22. If you join up with "Balmungs Finest" there is every likely hood you might see this content, it does require a prodigious amount of people, but is tuned to be "easier" than Coil iirc. (its supposedly to help bridge the ilvl 70-80 gap among other things.) But yeah, with the WoL Helmet the whole set would look pretty nifty.
  23. /weep THANK YOU also, i've seen you running about mining, Saving up for housing or just something general (not to derail the thread.)?
  24. Howdy howdy and welcome to the show Kikimo, Good to hear you've already joined Intermission and a smashing introduction! I'll assume you've already poked around a little so i'll skip linking to any particular FC or LS. I would how ever like to extend an invitation! to flag me down in game if you see me, I have yet to meet a lalafell I didn't like. Best of luck out in Eorzea, and safe travels :chocobo:
  25. Hello and welcome to the RPC Ciel, I was on Sarganates mostly in 1.0 until the server merge, then I moved to Blamung as my "primary", did Masamune have any or a few Roleplayers? Sarganates had an FR group. French Canadian mostly, like me. Though i'm out west now and most of them were in and around Montreal. Good to hear you've already got a group to roll with, always easier running about when you can mention that you just watched a digga chase a lalafell half way across the zone. If you've got a bit of time, and are looking for an additional Linkshell or two, I suggest taking a look at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 ("Intermission" being an OOC hub for roleplayers to meet/greet, chat, plan etc. Pretty much everything.) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 ("Balmungs Finest" is all about the PVE. From Brayflox to HM Titan.) Hope to see you around in Eorzea, I have no issues with being flagged down if you have any questions/ want to RP, i'm likely just farming some materials for housing :cactuar:
