  1. Oh Twelve not sure if its just me but SOME ONE FIX THE FORMATTING FOR THE FRONT PAGE- ASHDJLASHDJALKSHD edit: or spoiler the maps so they don't stretch the page.
  2. Hello Prosopeio, A quick question about the character, have you had the chance to play through a few of the melle class story lines? The Monk questline touches on Ala'Mhigo as well as Rhalgr, and while I won't spoil it I think it might offer some interesting context to your character if you incorporate their "gospels" as it were. I think the idea of focusing on some one who is fixated on the constructive properties of destruction or "tearing down" is interesting and could lead into a lot of character growth. I would how ever be wary of using Dalamund as an inspiration for seing destruction as a "positive" force. While you certainly can, A lot of PCs' and NPCs have lost a lot to the calamity and might be offended by anything other then solemn respect. That could how ever be your intention, or an avenue to explore your character, perhaps not realizing how much it affected some people he comes to reanalyze his own feelings towards the event or destruction itself? Either way, plenty of possibilities. So far as "Building a Character" I try to keep it pretty "natural", years ago when Quarimar was new, he was pretty much a blank slate with a few character traits, but people, events and conflict grew him, made him change his mind on things, made other things more important. he's certainly "grown up" so don't worry about trying to make something "just right" from the get go. Maybe just start with an idea, throw him into some conversation and see how he responds. If you'd like to continue discussing the idea you can of course post here or reach me in game depending on how you'd like to continue, Quarimar can usually be found in Ul'dah though i'm sure I could contrive a reason for him to speak with you elsewhere. Edit: OH! and when you have the chance, could you go into the control panel and add server/character name? not critical, but it helps when trying to reach people or provide information.
  3. Heh, well I think when you do work up to it you'll do a fine job in the Art thread. I agree with you that having a firm grasp of the design flow is important, my own writings took a time to get started because I wanted to have a large number of samples (marked by region and time period) to pull from as in game examples. Mostly trying to capture the flow of speech. I speak french when ever I visit my family or talk to coworkers in Quebec, but I don't get much use out of it in the day to day. If you can work out a word or two it might be worth marking "F" in the search info panel (on the social pane) for your character, i've found that a) most people use the auto-translate anyways and b) I think match ups prioritize people with the same selected languages before placing them in a larger pool, just a hunch as my queue times are shorter during the same time period when I have both selected. Like Moxxi said, the forums are a great place to get to know a few people or even make plans to meet in game. Hope you have the chance to meet lots of interesting people.
  4. I just saw your introduction post with your tumblr link.. Bertholdt Taquel looks so good, why won't you finish him Q_Q. and your image inspired by "J'en Ai Marre" made me chuckle, Parlez-vous français? Fanboying aside, I like your styling, the facial expressions on the works i've scrolled through are charming. As a note, the RPC has many artists/art lovers (of varying types.) so don't be surprised if people bug you for a commission or two if you start or post on a Art thread.
  5. No problem, always happy to provide information. Yeah, a disregard, or disrespect even of any form of Order can make things a bit of a cluster. Twisting Nether was like that from time to time, its what prompted my move to the Steamwheedle Cartel in the WoW days. The "wiki" in to tool bar above hosts a variety of character and lore pages that are to a certain extent "agreed upon" though of course since they are user made and maintained they can go through revision from time to time. For Pen and Paper it took me a long time to be okay with some of Pathfinders new ideas, but I think they've handled them with the proper weight of responsibility. A good example would be the "Kingmaker" and "Jade Reagent" Pathfinder campaigns, ports of preexisting they really show where Pathfinder has helped to grow the options your PCs have. A note on Mythic levels, they're still fairly new, I equate them to a mixture of "Hero points" and "Prestige classes". While Pathfinder does have some more "advanced" classes, they didn't always feel as potent as some of the 3.5 stuff (and example is Mythic levels on my Wizard make me feel like a proper 3.5 Archmage again, although the lack of the "sonic" element makes damage swapping less fun, I miss my 6d6 Sonicballs of death..) Augh Shadowrun, so much fun, have you checked out the isometric release of the game on steam? its pretty interesting.

    Hello

Greetings Starchs, While i'm unfamiliar with any RP FC's or Linkshells on the "Goblin" server. If you find or make one and could direct them to making a post for their group on http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=15&filtertf_srvr=Other That would be very kind. (That entry is for RP groups outside of Balmung/Gilgamesh.) Aside from that the RPC has a whole host of tools at your disposal, from the wiki that can make character pages to the Gallery for hosting a shot or two of your in-game adventures. If you have any questions or comments feel free to voice them here, or drop into a thread relating to the topic and hopefully you'll find an answer before too long. Good luck in your journey.
  7. Howdy Catfish, A great choice in picking Gilgamesh as your starting server! If you'd like to join a somewhat larger group of people who facilitate RP I would suggest. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 A good place to get a feel for what people are going, where they are and the like. You can also (if you have some time to read) check out the following two links. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 The first is a short introduction to the RPC and some of its tools (such as the wiki that hosts character profiles and the like.) the second is an RP handbook put together by Eva, while a bit lengthy it serves as an excellent teacher/refresher. It has section links at the top, so you can skim if you fins something you already feel you know well and get to the stuff you want to know more. Hopefully that helps you along your way a little. Remember, the RPC is by roleplayers for roleplayers, so ask questions, raise concerns, inject yourself into some forum shennanigans all that noise. Best of luck in Eorzea!
  8. The Bismark (culinarians guild) is a good shot in Limsa (lots of chairs and the like.). Always glad to help, if you ever roll an alt on Balmung (the wee hours of the morning are best.) feel free to throw me a tell.
  9. Greetings and welcome to the RPC J'ruhzo I'm a pen and paper fan myself, any particular rule set you use most of the time? I used to be primarily 3.5, but i've found myself involved in more and more Pathfinder these days. particularly since the release of "Mythic" levels/content. As you said to Navisse, I as well enjoy the casual and relaxed interactions as a way to keep interest in the game. (though I am also one of the meta-gamers, I love me some math and spread sheets.) The taverns in the main cities and even some of the more scenic areas can be great for this. Fishing in vesper bay i've had people walk up and just chat away. A few quick resources, if you don't mind some reading. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome That welcome post outlines the majority of the resources here at your disposal as well as linking to them. As a note some of the Linkshells listed in the linkshell hall are closed down for various reasons, how ever the leader of the RPC Kylin has mentioned that he will be requiring a "check in" to clean up the pages of anyone whos' no longer active. Eva also created a wonderful RP handbook, many of its old stuff for anyone experienced in RP in general and MMORP more specifically, but I still find it handy to distribute, heck maybe you'll find something you've over looked. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Aside from that feel free to poke around, bug me in game if you see me running, ask questions, make comments, all the usual. Hope to see you in Eorzea! :cactuar:
  10. Heya Ansemaru, I'm not the best at approaching others out of the blue, I'm usually faffing about working on a craft, so I assume the same of most others, though i'm usually wrong. While if on Balmung, I would offer to send you a tell myself, I will instead link to the "Coalition" group of Gilgamesh. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 A little bit about it; it serves as the hub of OOC communication for roleplayers in game, this can be as simple as voicing where you are to taking time to snag a few people for a pre-planned scene. Hopefully you won't feel to nervous to join, and once you're in you can always take your time with opening up to general shennaniganry. If that doesn't serve there are plenty of other linkshells listed on the directory (though we're close to a "clear out" period where some of the inactive ones are removed, so you might run into a few that aren't operating any more.) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=15&filtertf_srvr=Gilgamesh Hope that helps you get a little more comfortable in Eorzea, best of luck in your journey.
  11. Oh twelve, my sides... I dearly hope this gets to its Kickstarter goal. The demo is hilarious (A link to the Kickstarter even though its linked in the article.)
  12. Just a quick note Leafy, this is a Gailgamesh group, (you can sort by sever on the linkshell hall page) Of course maybe you have a character there, in which case, rock on! :cactuar:
  13. Greetings Lhea! Since you're on Gilgamesh, I highly recommend taking a look at http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 Its a linkshell dedicated to collaboration. Aside from that, that RPC has a lot to offer so I take your time to get a firm grasp of all the tools at your disposal. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome has a general over view. As always, the RPC is by roleplayers for roleplayers, so if you have questions, comments, concerns, you can voice them here, start a thread, or even send people a tell in game. Best of luck in Eorzea. :cactuar:
  14. Greeeeetings! could always use more Roe.

    Howdy

Greetings Rurin! I heavilly suggest taking a look at the Linkshells tab for Gilgamesh organizations that might interest you, of particular importance is the COOalition linkshell. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 it serves as an OOC coordination tool to get people together and help them find RP. Aside from that, feel free to explore! as a WoW survivor it took me a while to acclimate to 1.0's lore and mechanics, and with 2.0 we have plenty of information up on the wiki. Feel free to ask any questions you might have! Twelve knows theres a lot to cover. OH and i'd be remiss if I didn't recommend taking a look at http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 The first is a general welcome, the second, a very informative guide set up by EVA.
  17. Greetings Malikai! As an EU player i'd recommend checking out http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3026 For OOC communication and collaboration. As far as mercenary, i'm unsure as to which one in particular to recommend, but if you take a look at the linkshell hall linked above (in the bar with the wiki) you might find something that strikes a chord. Never fear! you can ask questions in their comments section if you need a bit of clarification, and some of them even have their own websites. If you have some free time this afternoon i'd take a look at the calendar and maybe attend one of the ongoing events, meet a few people, flex the jaw, who knows, maybe you'll find an employer! (in game >_>) aside from that feel free to take your time to get to know the RPC, theres lots out there, the forums full of discussion, the Wiki of information, the Lantern, an IC publication, and so much more. Feel free to ask any questions you have, here or you can message me in game. Back to Ul'dah for now! :cactuar:
  18. if you're referring to the people using the hack, its likely an RMT group and not average players. I've made a point of keeping tabs on the ffxiv reddit, and the /v/ ffxiv general thread that touched on the topic, it seems to be a common set of sellers using it. (I can provide a few forum links if you'd like, the jist of it is that there are 4 primary items being used as the "selling items" and while they use the typical retainer with gibberish name, its so far seemed to be 3-4 retainers per server.) I'm fortunate enough to keep the bulk of my gil on my retainers, and will be depositing my "slush fund" at the inn as well tonight, but as to forum post linked by Tobias points out, its part of the flaw in SEs system, a "fix" for now is to stay clear of areas with the market boards and keep under 1m gil on you. (most of the reports being purchases in excess of 1mil, I suppose if that dries up they'll go for pretty much anything.) I'll be camping out in the Golden Bazaar, have a pint, and wait for all this to blows over. :chocobo:
  19. Just a quick update, I've opened up a bit of communication with the Grindstone and we will be (pending any scheduling conflicts.) Announcing their fights at the C&C prior to the matches, hopefully promoting people to go and see the show for a break from jaw-wagging. As always the event is open and will be running for quite some time, so don't feel that if you can't show up at the start you can't show up at all. Wander in, wander out, bring some friends have a drink and all that. Please send any questions you have concerning the event to myself or Faceman (Konner.) Back to work :cactuar:
  20. Greetings Alwyn, Good to see Caen and Brave recommending the RPC. "Everquest on the Brell Serilis" Another survivor! I remember leveling an alt just for Teleport... Sounds like you already know a few people in game, so i'll just take a moment to go over the tools that the RPC has at your disposal. There are of course the forums, with a combination of things such as the RP handbook by Eva: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 As well as ongoing conversations on nearly every topic, and if there isn't one, feel free to make it! We've also got a player made Wiki you can find above that lists all sorts of lore pages, character profiles and the like. It covers a great deal of information but also sorts it in a way that should make it fairly easy to get at what you'd like to know. They're created and edited by members so you can put up your own page on a character or maybe a bit of Lore you've found that isn't listed. The Lantern is an IC publication and the Linkshell hall both provide a way to get to know some of the people you might meet out in the world. The Linkshell listing providing information on the group, ways to get in touch and all that jazz. I recommend taking a look at "Intermission" a kind of hub for OOC communication, there's Europa, a EU timezone based equivalent if you are on during those hours more often. If you'd like to see what events are coming up you can take a look at the calendar, and while I might be a bit biased, the Coffer and Coffin event occurring on the 9th is open to all if you'd like to attend RP event where you can jaw wag, or just observe to your hearts content. I'm sure i'm missing some thing, but some one else will chime in if I have. Feel free to voice any concerns or ask any questions you might have, and until then, best of luck in Eorzea!
  21. Welcome to the RPC Jorsin, If you have a moment, please pop into the control panel for your account and add your character name/server, while not crucial, it helps when offering advice down the road, as well as people to connect the forum face with the in game. Faye linked to it, but i'll expand on it for a moment, we have a "Linkshell Hall" sorted by server, it lists linkshells and FC's and allows the owner/members to post information as well as having a comments section below where you can ask your own. If you'd like to know a bit more about some of the players you might meet in the wide world I suggest taking a peek at the Lantern (and IC publication) as well as the Wiki, which hosts a great reservoir of information, among it, character profiles. As always, feel free to ask any questions you might have, both here and in game. Hope to see you in Eorzea. EDIT: OH! totally forgot to add, the Coffer and Coffin will be hosting an event on the 9th, you can see the details on the calendar. Its open to all, a great chance to jaw wag if you like. And the Grindstone also hold tournaments on Saturdays (and wensdays) to the south if you'd like some entertainment or prefer to observe.
  22. Took the good building at the Golden bazaar tonight! It is a good building... BAH! sorry for the interruption at the event, at least Kaylie ran out and helped with the FATE the others were trudging through.
  23. A formal welcome to the RPC, Hope you have the chance to coordinate with some additional roleplayers through your linkshell hall posting, and maybe convince some other CoH players to join in, maybe make a wiki page for the organization or a character. As you undoubtedly know, you're free to ask any manner of zany question, or indulge in the general shenaniganry of the forums. Hope to see you in Eorzea.
  24. Hmm perhaps I am misunderstanding, but that sounds as if it would lend itself to conjury. While Arcanists do get the use of Physik as a healing spell, they don't really emphasize the ability until they unlock the Scholar job. Or perhaps you are referencing to the character styling and not the actual mechanics, in which case i'm sure an Arcanist or two may prefer a supportive role, and their carbuncles would make a stalwart protector. Have you had the chance to play through the Arcanist or Conjurer quest line up to level 30? maybe that would provide better context for what idea you would like to pursue.
  25. EDIT: skip post, answers already posted above, dang, too late. Hello Caex, I'll preface my statement with a big fat "Miqo'te are not really my thing, so I operate on forum posts and likely miss many of the nuances afforded to the fluffy people" Have you had the chance to read over the offical lore post at: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/61150-Miqo-te-Naming-Conventions Unless i'm missing something, a simple work around would be to simply take the name you have planned, and add one of the male suffixes to the forename. For example if we suppose you were the first born son of Caex Vaeriar, you would be Caex'a Vaeriar. (You could of course use the other suffixes depending on which order of son you wanted to be.) I'm unsure if the name over all is sufficiently "keeper" though I understand they are usually 2 syllabic forenames such as you have. As an aside, while I totally dig the keeping of OOC significance, I think its important to analyze why you want to keep it an whether or not it meshes with the underlying current of the game world. I worked a subtle reference into my own name by making it a contraction of a "proper" Elezen name. But to each their own, I just like to think about those things I suppose.
