Hey Kannadi, Excited for the crystal tower, small note, could you spoiler the top link for the page? because its a single string it stretches the formatting on the front page (i'm at 1680x1050 and it looks like: http://i.imgur.com/E3v0udM.jpg ) At least thats what I think was causing the stretch, with the lightning guides it was screen shots, but this one doesn't appear to have long shots. Just a thought, thanks for linking it none-the less!

Oh i never argued the sensibility in the grind, (though as a note, no drop rate is guaranteed.) simply musing on why SE included that gear in the dungeon in and of itself, got further along in the discussion about gear in general and linked the the video. Both the leggings and the top (Coliseum) can be decent for BLMs depending on how much Materia they are willing to sink in to them. (Though thats the case with all sockatable gear, and a poor excuse for the gear without the context of it, at least for me, being more about just keeping it in the game than making it useful for any long period of time.) As a note, Aurum Vale drops plenty of AF slot gear that is useless (outside of turning into materia) by the time you get there. the itemization of sub ilvl 50 gear for generic casters with no slots will never be as good as 50 for that specific roll. (Baring stat weight of course.)
-
Ha, I still remember my first "Eye of Flame" from BRD on my mage. On the note of "Gear grind" EC (while I don't always agree with them, or their supporters) touches on the gambling/completion compulsion MMOs have run on in that way for an age. http://www.penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/collectable-games-part-2
-
Oh no doubt, I think quite a few of the design choices were made to make Westwind/Prae/CM/AK easier to get into, providing a decent set of gear off the bat through the quests is certainly one way to do it. Well that and a desire to make everyone feel that they have something "iconic".
-
While I won't argue the use of the gear in and of it self, there being plenty of room to number crunch vs AF with materia depending on the stats of your other gear ect. But instead focus on the gear and the dungeon they drop in. Completely conjecture of course, but perhaps they wanted a way to include getting the Coliseum gear from 1.0, and DD being a 1.0 dungeon as well it just kind of fell into place? I think this would answer why that dungeon, they wanted to not have to retool a lot of "higher" end 1.0 gear (Although they did anyways, such as Amethyst gear that used to be good for BLM for +Lit dmg.) Since it would remain in an upper level bracket it dungeon fit from an early standpoint. Particularly with the "Desirability" some people attach to the sets I can imagine they wanted to avoid a "HEY HOW COME I CAN'T GET THAT ANY MORE" things, (Which still crops ups with the Yukatas/Giantsgall/Goobbue, but I think those are less, well, 'showy' so are less noticed.) Just a thought, it has its flaws of course but something i've pondered as well. That does how ever bring up how the new AF quests feel a bit strange, or rather, not as hazardous, but thats more due to a lack of higher-level enemies, open world dungeons (The Beast-man enclaves just don't have the same mechanics.) and the like. I remember using my "Mages Half-robe" for ages before I got the chest piece... Ah well food for thought, thanks

Greetings Wombat! I too made my venture into the world of mmos (primarily) with EQ, while I suppose UO could trump it, but I just sat next to my uncle doing what he told me, I was too young... WoW was a long time home for me, I was on the Steamwheedle Cartel mostly, but I did have an alt on Twisting Nether and WRA. Did you spend much time on any of those servers? The communities could be.. interesting. I've seen you post on a few of the other "Welcome" entries that have been made so i'll skip the deluge of links and just wish you best of luck out in the world, please feel free to strike up conversation with me if you see me about in the world (I do run IC, usually huffing and puffing.) Good luck out there! :cactuar:

The Brothers Moui (an introductory post)
Olofantur replied to Fermont Marchand's topic in Welcome Desk
Greeting Moui! Besaid pre server merge was an interesting place, while is "Closed" I do know that Aveline has talked with some old members who have come back about getting them aboard, but maybe you've already gone that route.. so any who. Hope you had a good weekend, maybe met some interesting people, and the like. A few quick links for you (You've probably already seen them, but better safe than sorry.) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome (A welcome post outlining a few of the key features here at the RPC) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 (A role-play hand book done up by Eva) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 (Is an OOC linkshell for RPers to get to know each other and the like "Intermission" by name.) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 ("Balmungs Finest" is a linkshell for PVE activities, allowing you to group in server before having to resort to the duty finder.) Maybe that helps set you on your way in your re-entry to Eorzean roleplaying. Feel free to flag me down if you ever see me running about, twelve knows i'm probably just crafting or hunting for some obscure reagent. :cactuar: -
Hello and welcome to the RPC Y'tuma! How'd the weekend go for you? meet lots of interesting people on Gilgamesh yet? There's certainly a group of them! One in particular i'd suggest checking out is: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 The Coalition is an OOC linkshell for roleplayers on Gilgamesh to get to know each other, to find times and places to meet and to just general "Shoot the shit" as they say. A few additional links that might help you on your way include: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome A general welcome post, it also provides links and explanations to a few of the resources here at the rpc, such as the wiki, the calendar and my favorite, the Lantern. If you'd like to know more about roleplaying in general, need a bit of a refresher, or want a second view point of something your working on understanding, try taking a look at. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 While lengthy, Evas write up is comprehensive, well organized and includes different ways to look at a few things. Don't want to overwhelm of course, so take your time, poke around the forums, maybe ask a question or two you want to know what other people think about. Chances are a discussion is waiting to happen about something you're interested in out there (or is already happening...). Any who, have a good day, and best of luck in Eorzea! :chocobo:

Hello Red, I'll second what Gharen said about taking a look in the linkshell hall to help find a few groups that might suit your tastes. As far as "finding roleplay" I think there are a few sticking points most people run into, maybe they're your own, maybe not. (of course this is just opinion, different strokes for different folks and all that.) "The opening line" as it were, how you weren't "called out to". Many people are both RPers and not, some people might be operating a closed story line, heck they might even just be zoned out! In all cases, do not presume that other people will make an effort to include every passer by (this as both a defense against trolls, a prevention of offending some one who doesn't like RP, as well as uncertainty if the people you're with even want to include another person.), Make a point of dropping them a small tell "[hey, hows it going, I was wondering if you guys we're active and minded if I stopped in.]" and follow it up with an emote perhaps (if you feel confident.) "/em tilts his head to catch the sound of the conversation better, his brow perking as the hyur continues his ramblings. Half standing in his chair, Quarimar clears his throat in an effort to draw their attention." This for me provides a few things. It allows them to involve or not as they desire, it allows me to gauge (by their response) how they like to roleplay, and lastly gives me a way to IC continue no matter the response. but I ramble, anyways! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome That is a small welcome post that outlines a few of the major tools here at the RPC if you're not already familiar with them. Hope you have the chance to meet a lot of interesting people out there, maybe drop in an event or two from the Calendar... See you in Eorzea!

Hello Silvaire, Hope you had the chance to get some interesting things going over the weekend. Maybe meet a few people, drop into an event, or some-such. Not sure how much time you've had to look around the website so here are a few links that will hopefully make things a bit easier for you, maybe give you some information you don't already know. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This is a short overview of the RPC itself, providing a little bit of info on each of the major tools (linkshell hall, wiki, etc.) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 That is a lengthy Roleplay Handbook made available by Eva, while most of it might cover information you already know, I think the organization and chance to get another viewpoint on some areas can be helpful when establishing how you want to deal with things (be they people, events or mechanics.) Onto communities! just a couple, help get your foot in the door and all that, http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is an OOC hub for the RPC and serves as a way to get to know your fellow roleplayer before you even meet them IC. Get to know where people are, what they're up to, maybe ask if you can partake in an event or two. If you happen to be interested in the PVE side of things as well you can check out http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is centered around just that, grouping for PVE on a Balmung first mentality, only turning to the duty finder when there's no other option. With two linkshells and cross requests between them, if you're looking for some one to fill a spot, you'll have a pretty good chance here. Those are a few of the major things... Please know that you can ask questions, voice concerns and make comments without thinking you might miss-step here at the RPC, no one starts out knowing everything about the world they're partaking in and there are plenty of people here that i'm sure would be able to provide a bit of information here and there. See you in Eorzea! :cactuar:
-
Heya Xefjord, Just wanted to double check, was this a linkshell or a free company? If it is, you can make a posting at the Gilgamesh Linkshell Hall http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=15&filtertf_srvr=Gilgamesh Which should help visibility a little. A bit about the posting you can make seperate tabs if you want to provide a little IC introduction, then an OOC "this is what we do and don't allow" kind of thing. People can also post to the entry to ask questions and the like. Just a thought! :cactuar:

Hello Crayola and welcome to the RPC A Roegadyn! Seawolf or Hellsguard? both interesting, I favor hellsguard myself, but I like the russet colour. Anyways, here are a couple links that will hopefully help you get a bit more familiar with the RPC, Roleplay in general, and a few of the communities you might see out and about in the world. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome That welcome post does a good job of consolidating links and a bit of information about most of the tools here at the RPC. The Player made Wiki, the Lantern, Calendar and the like all server to help us interact and get to know each other a bit more. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 That Roleplay handbook created by the illustrious Eva covers the major points of Role play and helps provide a second opinion or another way of looking at character growth, in game mechanics, interactions with different peoples and the like. Worth the read, even if you only skim over the parts you feel familiar with. But onto the communities! hopefully these groups will help you "jump in" a bit more. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" Created by Xenedra is an OOC Linkshells dedicated to, well, getting together! chatting about things, finding out where people are, what they might be up to. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 It might be a little early to link you to "Balmungs Finest" but might be a good option to keep in mind. This is an OOC linkshell thats all about grouping up for PVE, dungeons, Primals, beating on Garleans, the usual. Hope that helps set you on your way a bit, feel free to ask any questions you might have, about the RPC, the Game, or what have you. Chances are there's a thread on the forum talking about what you're interested in. Good luck in Eorzea, and don't hesitate to flag me down if you need a hand! :chocobo:
-
Hello, a formal welcome to the RPC Abriael, Good to see you! and nice wiki entry, i'm such a slacker, well kind of, i'm still rewriting some parts from 1.0/early access because certain players have said they will no longer play, which sucks a bit, but ah well. While I do have two alts, their combined level isn't even 15, I like to focus on one character as well (particularly when you have the ability to pull from different paths, like Featherfoot on BLM.) Hope you've had the chance to meet a lot of people already, and good luck in your journey! :cactuar:

Hello Jack and welcome to the RPC, Good to hear you're able to fit in the nerd when and where you can, it can be interesting to try and sneak it in on the sides. Hopefully FFXIV will be a new good source of it! If you have a time to do a bit of reading i've got a few links that might help you on your way. the first two are related to the RPC and Roleplaying respectively, then i'll make a couple suggestions about Linkshells/FCs' you might be interested in. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Provides a nice overview of the RPC itself as well as giving you a small blurb about the different resources here, the Calendar, Lantern, Wiki and the like are all for use by members. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 That sizable post is a handbook of roleplay styles, thoughts, ideas and much more put together by Eva, The index is spoiler tagged at the top, and glancing at it you should get an idea of what areas you might like to read, even if you already know most of it I find it a handy way to compare my own thoughts to something else. Because I like to balance PVE and RP as well i'm familiar with your desire to have the proverbial cake and devour it, so here are a few groups that might help you strike up a balance between them. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is an OOC linkshell dedicated to getting RPers together to talk, maybe find out where some people are, if they're open to having some one swing by, or just strike up conversation in general and get to know the people you might meet out in the wide world. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is a OOC Linkshell all about that delicious PVE group content, Dungeons, Primals, Raids and the like. Most people will post what they're missing from a group in the linkshell and try to fill up before resorting to the Duty Finder. As far as FCs go, there aren't many I can mention off hand that might fit, its a fairly large investment (at least for myself). So perhaps taking a look at the linkshell hall and getting in contact with one or two people to talk about what they bring to the table and what exactly you are looking for might be the best way to go about it... http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5283 "Harbingers of Dawn" might fit how ever, i've had the chance to meet maybe a half dozen of them and its always went well. Hm, hope all that didn't put you off... Well, if you have any questions, concerns or the like feel free to raise them! here or in a forum topic, maybe a conversation is already going. If you see me running about Eorzea feel free to say hello, chances are i'm just crafting :cactuar:

Hello and welcome to the RPC Credelie! I like the work you've done with those images, the yellow on the guard standing at the base of the statue in aleport is very vibrant, it looks acrylic. While I never had the chance to experience City of Heroes I hear it was a riot and provided people with a lot of their early experiences, my own was with EQ. Since it sounds like you've lurked for a while i'll skip the usual deluge of links and skip to one additional linkshell (Although Intermission is again highly recommended.) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 Balmungs Finest should serve your group PVE needs, from primals to CM and after, OOC and active pretty regularly. Always interesting to roll characters that aren't in your norm, while I haven't had much time to play with the idea, I do have a Roegadyn i'm working on that isn't my usual style.. but who knows how that will turn out. Hope you have the chance of meeting lots of interesting people out there, and never hesitate to ask any questions about the world you might want clarification or a second opinion on, the forums are full of nearly every type of discussion. :cactuar:

1:27:06 Q: Could you explain how exactly gatherers and crafters will impact the exterior/interior of a house? A: Approximately 85% of housing will consist of material from gatherers and items from crafters, all of which can be sold on the market. However, as there will be a limit to the number of furnishings implemented in patch 2.1, we're trying to find a balance that allows both gathers and crafters to take part as much as possible. There will still be a slight imbalance at first, but we plan to release plenty of new furnishings in patch 2.2, so every crafter and gatherer will have something to do. There really isn't very much you can buy purely with gil, so if you want to customize a lot you'll need to get help from gatherers and crafters. (in the link I posted) edit: further note, outside plots for planting are mentioned, as well as a few other tid bits.
-
I don't have the quote for this either, but I believe they said that player housing would come out no less than 6 months after 2.1, as they want to see how people handle the FC housing. They've also been toying with the idea of having personal rooms in the FC housing, in one for or another, in a future update/ http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/113554-Letter-from-the-Producer-LIVE-Part-IX-Q-A-Summary-%2810-30-2013%29?p=1500050&viewfull=1#post1500050 2:19:20 Q: When will individual housing be implemented? A: It will be around half a year after patch 2.1's release. Currently, we are split between implementing a personal room within a free company house or personal housing. Since the decision will have a huge impact on how many additional servers we'll need to prepare, we have to carefully consider the balance of the housing system. We believe it will take roughly six months to have everything planned out and prepared. Is likely what you are referring to. Perhaps the link I posted will help clear things up.

Just in case that was an actual question, you can dye clothes, any equipment with the little circle in the top corner of the icon can be dyed. You pick up a quest to learn how to dye in Vesper day (The same place you start doing some of your main story after a while) from a rather colorful Roegadyn woman. EDIT: as a note, most "common" dyes can be bought from a "dyemonger" in a main city, the rest are crafted and available on the market boards. http://imgur.com/a/rvB1u Is an album of example dyes colours. Hope that helps, and if you have any others feel free.

howdy howdy clam chowdy? Welcome to the RPC Corban (Of would you prefer "CD"?) Always cool to hear that people out there mention the RPC when roleplay comes up, I hope you've already found a few things that interest you! Cool to see another EQ player, its where I got my roleplay start, though I was young and quite rubbish at it... but anyways! If you'd like, I have a few links you might be interested in poking around at. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Is just a general welcome post that pretty much covers the basic tools here on the RPC (Calendat, Linkshell hall, wiki etc.) as well as talks about some of what brought the RPC about. Since you mentioned feeling a bit Rusty: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Is an RP handbook put together by the illustrious Eva, quite lengthy you'll find it touches on a vast array of topics. If nothing else, skimming over it to get anthers perspective can be of great help. But onto communities! I like to think having a linkshell or two even if you don't talk a lot in them helps make the game feel a bit more welcoming, so i'll plug the two i'm fond of, and maybe some one will mention another later on. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 Is "Intermission" and OOC linkshell that allows people to talk, about pretty much anything.. its a great way to find out where people are, what they might be doing, if that group of people you saw walking outside Thals Respite are open for a drop in, all that fun stuff. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 Is "Balmungs Finest" A linkshell dedicated to PVE content, need a story line dungeon? running CM for Philo tomes? chances are you'll be able to fill out your party here. Hmm, well hopefully that helps a little. Feel free to ask any questions you might have, even the stranger ones (yes the Amalj'aa really do have that many fingers!). Drop in a forum post and give your opinion, maybe flag me down in game if you see me running by, Twelve knows there's plenty to do out there! :cactuar:
-
Greetings Brighid, and welcome to the RPC, Since you've been lurking a while i'll skip my usual flood of links, though if you are curious for opinions on a particular group i'm sure some one will chime in before long to speak up. You'll find many people here who have been RPing before or in different environments than MMOs, I got my start as a kid at a bi-weekly DnD campaign my uncle hosted with his older friends. (Yes I was THAT kid who tagged along, but I like to think by occasional bouts of dwarfy shenanigans were entertaining.) So hopefully you'll find some along your lines to reminisce with, remember Zork? hot damn... I should put DoSBOX on my work machine.. But I digress, I hope you meet many interesting people, both here and in the world proper. As always please feel free to ask any questions you have, maybe sign up for a linkshell or two, flag some people down in game. Best of luck in your journey :chocobo:

/salute Welcome to the party Cheezie! I'd recommend abusing the Fantasia option to roll a character on Balmung when you get the chance, saving a spot, and even if you don't particularly like him, using the free Fantasia (one month reward) to change it! If you do get a character rolled out here on Balmung, land of candy cane and sparkles I suggest taking a look at the Linkshell hall, "Intermission" and "Balmungs Finest" in particular. (perhaps I should expand, Intermission is an OOC linkshell dedicated, to getting people together, chatting and all that, where as Balmungs Finest is all about dungeony goodness.) Feel free to ask any questions you might have, and I hope to see you in Eorzea as well!
-
Greeting and welcome to the RPC Demi! Good to hear another experienced MMOer is taking the plunge into a realm reborn! I'm a big fan of PVE and Roleplay, so if you have a moment i'd like to provide you with a few links that might help you along your way. (who knows!) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Is a nice little outline of the RPC, and touches on the main tools we have here such as the wiki, calendar and Lantern, so hopefully that will help you get your feet under you when it comes to the RPC. But on to the communities! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 Intermission is a series of linkshells (its third iteration) intended for out of character communication, everything from where people are, what they're up to, and all that jazz. hardly a better place to be found as far as getting to know some of the people out in the world. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 Balmungs Finest is a particular favorite of mine, dedicated to PVE content, running high level, low level and sometimes just for a the fabled battlemages robes. Lots of people around at lots of different times. As for learning the lore, I think a great deal of my own knowledge came from taking in the world, walking about, listening to NPCs, its an interesting experience, and though the worlds changed it still (and arguably more so now) feels as though it has a decent base to expand on once you want to start speculating about things not addressed directly, but I ramble. Again, welcome to the RPC and I feel free to ask any questions you might have, voice a concern or two, heck flag some one down in Ul'dah if you get bored. :cactuar:
-
Uh oh, i'm late to the party! Welcome to the RPC! to both yourself and Mijisaa, Hope you've had the chance to meet some interesting people already, and i'd like to say that I love running dungeons IC (though finding a full group can be a bit of a bother, so let me know if you need a third!) If you (or Mijisaa) have a moment to do a bit of reading, i've got a few links i'd like to share. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Is just a welcome post that outlines a few of the major tools here, the Calendar, Lantern, wiki and all that fun stuff. If you'd like a (not-so) little refresher on roleplaying in general/mmos styles/tips and the like I can hardly recommend a better resource than Evas write up at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Then theres different groups, while i'll leave gandering through the linkshell hall up to you too I'd like to plug two groups. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 Is what Xenedra mentioned, Intermission, an OOC linkshell full of people, a chance to meet, greet, find and chat. There is also http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" which is a group centered around helping people find groups for PVE content. While most of this is done OOC, I and a few others in the 2nd linkshell do IC runs from time to time. I hope that helps set you both on your way a bit more confidant, and i'd love to answer any questions or concerns you might have. Hope to see you in Eorzea! :cactuar:
-
Greetings and welcome to the RPC, since you've been lurking for a while i'll skip the deluge of links and second Xenedras recommendation of joining "Intermission" The linkshell of OOC Shenanigans of which few come close. (okay maybe one link.. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 ) I hope you've had the chance to meet a lot of interesting people and get to know many more as you spend time here and around the amazing community in game. If you have any questions or concerns, as always, the RPC is a welcome place to voice them, and i'm sure many would jump at the chance to squash a nagging doubt or the like. Best of luck in your adventures and see you in Eorzea! :cactuar:
-
Greetings and welcome to the RPC NV (can I call you NV? or do you prefer Ninja?) As the illustrious Xenedra has mentioned, there is an out of character hub known as "Intermission", A better place to meet people I can hardly think of. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 How long did the PS3 install take you if I might ask? I haven't had to do it since the Beta and i'm wondering if the process was improved at all, is it still 4+ hours? Ah well, If you have the inclination to read a little bit (maybe your taking a break from kicking butt and taking names.) You can check out the welcome post that outlines a few of the tools here at the RPC (like my favorite, the Lantern.) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Hope you had a good weekend and have the chance to meet a lot of interesting people over the next weekend. If you have any questions feel free to ask! :chocobo:
