I don't think you can ever be alone in such a varied community, I've seen a lalafell named Shoshosu who is fascinated with Miqo'te tails and will go around trying to touch them, its amusing to watch. I think she gets away with it just because of the disarming adorable nature of dunes-folk with pigtails, but that could just be me..

Greetings Kouhai Raichu, welcome to the RPC. I hope you've had the chance to meet plenty of interesting people on Gilgamesh already, Thaliak knows theres a lot to see and do out there but hopefully you've been able to lurk around and see a few people if nothing else. Nice to see another Forum roleplayer making the jump into the MMO community, plenty of us used Gaia [including myself] or another forum site at one point or another. Thankfully if you'd like a mixture of in game and out there is some RP that occurs on the forums. [in both long form and short.] Anyways, i've got some links i'd like to share, maybe you'll stumble on something you over looked. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This welcome post provided to all RPC members outlines a few of the key features here. The Wiki where you can make character profile entries to the Lantern an IC publication. If you take a look at the bottom of the post it also lists a few of the community moderators that you can get in touch with. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 This RP Handbook provided by Eva is an amazing source of knowledge on a variety of styles and situations. Maybe you'd like to see a different way of approaching a scenario, or maybe you'd like to hear about some Eorzea specific mechanics that you might not be sure how to incorporate into your character, This is a great place to start. If you'd like to know a bit more about the community I highly suggest jumping into the forums like you mentioned, or taking a look at the linkshell hall and messaging a few people to ask them more about ther groups after reading the introduction posts. I do have one suggestion for a linkshell on Gilgamesh, an OOC hub for roleplayers to connect named "Coalition" http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 Just a good chance to get to hear people and see what the community might be up to. Chat a bit, make a few connections, come along on a lalafell parade. Hope that helps you get a sense of whats out there. Best of luck out in Eorzea :cactuar:

No problem, Let me know if you need any clarification out there, twelve knows the community is large enough it can feel like transferring into a new Uni. Cheers!

Greetings Portia and welcome to the show! Sounds like you've already had the chance to poke around in game and meet some people, an excellent way to start off. Have you joined any linkshells yet? maybe added a few people to your friends list so you can keep tabs on what might be going on where? Either way chances are you'll meet plenty more interesting people, theres lots to do if you're willing to go out and scrounge it up. I've got a few links here i'd like to share, you might already be familiar with it and in that case, my apologies. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome That welcome post from the RPC gives you a bit of history as well as mentioning a few of the moderators here so you know who to get in touch with if you've having an administrative problem ect. It also lists some of the key site features such as the Wiki [A great place to host a character profile.] and the Lantern, and IC publication. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 This roleplay handbook provided by Eva contains a lot of information you're likely familiar with, outlining different types of roleplay, scenarios, common approaches to situations as well as touching on a few Eorzea specific things that might interest you. Quite the write-up, but the index at the top should help you get to the bits most helpful to you. But maybe you'd just like to see a community or two in action, and while I don't like to recommend IC groups as everyone roleplay needs are different and I think the best way to get to know them and what they do is to meet them in game, there are two OOC groups I highly recommend to any Balmung-ian http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is an OOC linkshell dedicated to connecting roleplayers of all different types. You can talk about all sorts of things here or just listen in. Get to know where an event is happening, who might be attending or ask a few questions while you're out in the world. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is all about the PVE. A linkshell focused on getting the people of Balmung together for groups before resorting to the duty finder/Party Finder. If you're looking to fill some positions in agroup, or just want to hop into another persons farming of Garuda EX for a trinket, BF is a good place to start looking. Hope that helps you on your way a little, maybe you'll find something interesting to run with. As always feel free to jump into the forums, flag some people down, get to know who's out there. Best of luck in Eorzea! :cactuar:

I'd be very interested in finding out if they have a posting here. Perhaps getting times of day [server time] that these things have happened and around where to keep an eye out... I've not encountered anything along the lines, but then I keep to myself unless i'm strutting around the the lalaland linkshell on my alt.. Edit: Oh and if anyone needs some one familiar with Thanalan IC, or some one who meanders around the ruins/Ossuary, or if you just want to throw darts at a board feel free to wave me down in game, twelve knows i'm usually just bustling about on errands.

Just to tag onto ExKages note, Twitch does have some in system editing [the clips you stream can be edited and reposted as highlights alongside the full video] But uploading Video is a no-go from what i've seen. Not sure what you're using as recording software but OBS [Open Broadcast Software] is what I use for my live streaming and recording, its fairly light weight and while not has configurable as some, it suits my needs since I do any tweaking in review after. For video hosting Youtube followed by back ups on Springboard is fairly common, A regular program of mine links his Springboard in the youtube additional info to provide optional viewing in case you're fighting a copy rights claim and the video is temporarily suspended. Oh! And while I hope you never have to deal with it, here are a few snips of infor on fair use to back yourself up, i've had to fight a few claims because of that twelves cursed auto-flagger. http://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap1.html#107 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use http://www.yourmoviesucks.org/2013/12/youtubes-content-id-system-sucks.html [A little ranty but is information is good.] Hope to see what you put out there :cactuar:

Greetings and welcome to the RPC Ar'a I'm unsure if you'll make an additional post on the Welcome Board, so please consider this a fill in if you do there as well. Welcome to Balmung! Mind if I ask what Server you were on before? Gilgamesh has a few RP communities, and you can see in the Linkshell Hall that there are a few groups spread across a few servers, but moving on i've got a few links that will hopefully help you on your way. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This is a Generic welcome post from the RPC to all newcomers, it outlines some of the resources here for you such as the Wiki, the Lantern and the previously mentioned Linkshell hall, also it lists a few people of note in the community at the bottom. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Not sure how much experiance you have in RP... but if you're looking for a comprehensive guide including a few different view points that also addresses some FFXIV specific situations, Evas' handbook is full of great information. But maybe you're just looking for a community or two in game to poke around in. The Linkshell Hall hosts a great listing, you can click on the icons to read more about them and while they can no doubt do a better job of explaining how and why you should join them I do have two I would like to suggest off the bat. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" Is a LFRP/OOC/Chattering mass of people from all different walks of RP life. Who, what, where, when, why all those questions and more can find answers in Intermission. Maybe you jsut want to listen in to get "the pulse" on the population, or maybe you want to see who is at hyrstmill willing to take an extra hand on a baggage train. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs finest" on the other hand is an OOC PVE linkshell dedicated to getting you into a group or getting people into yours. Dungeons, Primals, Raids, if its group content and you like many in BF want to check server first before launching into the Duty finder, this is a good linkshell to grab. Hrm, thats about it for now I think, please let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns. Maybe jump into the Forums at large? Put up a character page on the wiki, either way, best of luck and hope to see you in Eorzea!

Eh, no reason to be sorry, just something you'll run into out in the world as you play, go have fun! :cactuar:

Just a heads up, might want to be careful with using the terms "She comes from a family of well-known casters; Her brother's a black mage, her father's a scholar, and her mother's a summoner." Stick to the classes and not the jobs until you've done the quests and know the lore a bit better and can provide some back story for them. I don't want to go to far into spoilers because the questlines are a lot of fun but. Scholars-Are limited to people with interaction with certain artifacts of Nym [Depending on how you plan to explain and if you intend for them to use a companion] Summoners- [in Canon] Have some pretty [as far as the quest goes] stringent requirements Blackmages- Things like the Magewar make any self identifying "blackmage" likely reviled by the mass populace. Not to be a debby downer, heck perhaps once you have a firm grasp of all t he back story you can work these ideas to fit in with the world, alter the flex what exactly a Scholar does, or how A Blackmage uses the Aether around them, but "Thaumaturge" "Arcanist" and "Conjurer" are solid and respectable occupations [in most cases]

Hello again Y'fhyrr, Looking for an RP guild is like trying to find a designated restaurant for the bi-weekly pre-pathfinder meeting [Just me? oh..], you really have to go out there and try them to see if they fit. As always the Linkshell/FC hall features here: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=15 Is probably your best best for getting a general overview, click on some that sound interesting to read more about them, maybe send a member a message to see what they're up to and how they go about their business, all that jazz. I'd also just hop into the world, lounge around some of the hot spots to see who turns up, seeing how people act in an unscripted environment is a great way to get another view of people who will otherwise carefully sculpt their interactions. Hope that helps, and good luck out there! :cactuar:

A quick off the cap response to "jobs" for me would be. Jobs were an expansion of the class system applied in 1.0 to specialize roles particularly in group content, allowing the introduction of iconic abilities and gear locked to a given role since "classes" had much more flexability and a way of ensuring a certain level of balance was to lock them to the "job" This isn't completely true of course as not /all/ abilities were cross class anyways, but the relic and tying in a story line, artifact armor ect all defined "jobs" apart from their class. I still used to run around in 1.0 as a THM when soloing due to the access to a larger tool set, particularly TP using defense abilities so I could use both resource pools [such as second wind and feather foot.] Though this has much less application in 2.0 where the majority of content difficulty has been toned down. [in solo play and outside of dungeon groupings.] https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0xH2755tkJU/Ul21kJ39VeI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/6Zo-WGkykSU/w960-h720-no/FFXIV+Speculated+Job+Progression.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-BfgNFSlXNEc/Ul21kE6V1eI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/__KpQNKRgM4/w960-h720-no/13+-+2.jpg both contain interesting ideas basing the assumptions on 1.0 lore and trends in the over all franchise. I more particularly are interested in how they will handle the raising of the level cap with existing classes/Jobs. Whm: rersise, raise 2. Blink. Sch: haste, accession. Mnk: chi blast War: maybe more damage WS and abilities. Mighty strikes? Pld: CURE 2 Smn: more egi shiva/leviathan/ramuh Drg: penta thrust, summon wyvern! [unlikely, but a guy can dream~] Blm: ugghh more spells with varying utility/potency Brd: regen song, sleep song more WS Also IIRC [and I could be terribly off form here] but one speculation was that more advanced jobs might be unlocked via the unlocking of jobs themselves? like some kind of elemental manipulator/debuffer as an expansion of BLM/SMN.

A Nervous Paladin's Plea - How to Make Friends and Flash Enemies
Olofantur replied to Steel Wolf's topic in FFXIV Discussion
HM Ultima - Is rough, or it can be, yeah I would chalk this one up to practice. HM Copperbell - Is it mostly the boss on the bridge with the fire waves and the adds? I also know that a lot of people aren't the best with tossing the rocks to catch the worm on the last boss, which is the DPS responsibility. HM Haukke Manor* - Is interesting, it really helps to have a BLM or Bard along for the 1st and last boss. Also don't be afraid to CC, [Not sure if you know but WHM's have repose to sleep if you miss out on a BLM.] Qarn - Oh lordy, that second boss with its "Beserk" aggro table that you can't taunt, joy-joy-joy, the last ones pretty easy and has a guide on Eorzeareborn.com Cutter's Cry - ?? huh.. I didn't think [aside from the first boss] this one gave people much trouble, getting people to stack on the tank when adds spawn, or Stunning the boss and shield lobbing/ making sure they burn the big one that heals tends to make it quick. If its the last boss, well Chimera is fun I thought >_> Blue out, Purple in, [You can actually out range the purple if you're a dps or healer and the tanks at the bottom of the pit by going up the cliff near the entrance.] Coil in any measure/CT - yeeeeah... practice Q_Q tl: dr Get a static group and go smash your head against a wall! -

"Oh hey you should totally join Balmungs finest to get in on some hassle free 4man HMs and tome far- frack Gilgamesh" Putting that aside, i'm assuming the "crap" you've gotten is Rouletting the Myth tome dungeons and people going "Hurr durr speed run Y U No pull first 3 groups of AK and chain pull the giants all the way to the door when they're below half percent" In which case, fuck em'. Which is infinitely easier said than done, but seriously, if people aren't comfortable moving at the pace of the tank they need to learn to drop group or suck it up. Do I enjoy Tam-tara for my daily taking 60 minutes because the tank decides to stone skin himself every pull? not necessarily, but the tank is the conductor of the symphony that is a dungeon run and [i might catch some flak for this] so long as their keeping the healers mana and skills in mind, I think they deserve carte blanche. How many DPS are asked to mark what they CC, heck how many DPS speak up that they can/will CC something? Not often, they sit silent nodding their heads along making no attempt to contribute beyond /exactly/ whats asked of them with no pro-activeness. Ranting aside, just hop back in, maybe target the few dungeons you're having a rough time completing with a pre-made group a few times. Pharos Sirius [which I would guess is the inexperience part] isn't gentle. Pep talk? pep talk.. [video=youtube] [sub out compliments of appearance for dungeon skills.] EDIT: Also this site is good for generic dungeon guides [as well as much else] http://eorzea-source.com/dungeon-guide/pharos-sirius -

I see you too found your very own Strawberry Shortcake replica to spend some time with. Mine was, as all the brave short ones seem wont to do, standing between me and death. -
Greetings and welcome to the RPC Orianna, While the bulk of roleplayers is split between Balmung and Gilgamesh, I hope you've been able to meet and get together with some interesting people on Siren. If you don't mind, do you know if the community is fairly active there? it would be great if you could let anyone on that end know about the RPC so they could put a posting for their group in the "Linkshells" listing, right now its a bit barren for "other" servers and I imagine that turns some people off the idea. But anyways! I have a few links for you that will hopefully be of some use to you, http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This Welcome post is a list of some of the resources at your disposal during your stay with the RPC, as well as giving a small over view of the site. I really do suggest poking around, maybe checking out a few character wiki pages, hop onto the Lantern. If you'd like the chance to brush up on you RPing knowledge http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Evas roleplay handbook is an excellent resource, it covers a very large swath of information, from general roleplay terms and conventions to Eorzea specific situations that you might have to deal with out in the wide world. Hope the helps set you on your way, and as always feel free to ask any questions you might have, voice any concerns and the like, maybe hop into an art thread and strut the proverbial stuff. Good luck out there!:cactuar:

I am studying 普通话, or the standardized dialect used in the PRC, though I'm learning both character sets. Mind if I ask if you favor the written language over the spoken? For my own Tertiary and beyond i've always favored written, though thats mostly because I enjoy reading texts or works in their original language. Picking up the spoken elements has always been secondary. Though in some cases the overlap has made it easy with western languages...
-
Ah, still, be it IC or OOC, i'm always a fan of Ivalice, Best of luck out there.
-
Hello and many welcomes [as you'll likely soon see] Ivaan, Ivalice Trading Company hrm? do you do a tie to the name in game or just a play on my favorite worlds name for the same of capturing the attention of so many fans? Either way, a good choice! Glad to hear you've had the chance to explore Balmung for a while now, hopefully you've already met plenty of interesting people. With your RP experience i'm sure the interaction were interesting. When you mention making a profile, I presume you meen a character entry on the wiki? they're high traffic and a great way to provide others a way to "plan" an interaction. Some quick links that might interest you, and maybe provide some information you might not have encountered... http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Is a welcome post from the RPC to all of its members, outlining a lot of the tools here that you can use to interact with the community, one of my favorites being the lantern. It also lists some of the RPC support staff at the bottom of the post. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 That is an RP handbook by Eva, you've likely encountered many of the ideas that shes covered in your long journey through the world of story telling but I still think that a short review of some of the Eorzea specific elements can be useful, if only for the chance to see how another mind handles the same ideas. As far as communities go, i'm sure the linkshell hall [with a bit of reading] will do you better than I ever could, but i'd like to throw two fairly common ones your way. Both OOC, and both about getting to know your fellow player, just in different ways. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is the grandest of all water coolers, so grand in fact there are two, maybe find out who else is in the area of Thals Respite, or if some ones going to be around the south shroud to help with a FATE, maybe just talk about why edward norton was the superior Hulk, who knows! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is all about PVE, dungeons, primals, Coil, that damn maze that just refuses to drop my robe! if you need a group to farm gear, tomes or just have a laugh plowing through some Primals on your way to your 5th Relic, theres a chance you'll find some people here. I like the opportunity to build ties in the server before reaching out to PUGs, and if you're the same, hopefully you'll have a good time. Hrm, I could swear i'm missing something, but hopefully that gives you an idea of whats out there and I haven't bored your ear off. Take care out in Eorzea and feel free to flag me down if you ever see me running around, twelve knows I could use a break from mining..:cactuar:

Greetings and welcome to the RPC Meenah, I hope you've had the chance to poke around a bit. While I didn't spend much time in SWTOR, I can't think of a comparable community thats as centralized. Though that could have been my own lack of investment and I was involved fairly early.. but any~who~! I have a few links for you that will hopefully be of some use. As Faye said, if you have any questions feel free to ask! Please make sure to take your time if you do feel a bit hesitant, twelve knows I took an age to wade into the deep end. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Is a good starting off post to read through. A fairly generic "Welcome" it outlines a few of the features here at the RPC, the wiki, the Lantern, the linkshell hall, as well as listing a few of the support staff at the bottom of the post. If you'd like to brush up on some RP, or read about some Hydaelyn specific scenarios there are few better guides out there than this roleplaying handbook from EVA http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 It is quite comprehensive, and while you might be familiar with a lot of the concepts put forward I think an effort has been made to lay things out as clearly and openly as possible providing information for people to work with, instead of picking something people "should" be doing. As far as communities.. I very much understand the desire to find a core group of people to interact with, particularly as you bounce ideas off of and really "grow" your knowledge and character. How ever I think there is some merit in looking into a few of the larger communities, not that you have to dive right in, but i'll go into that- http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is a good place to get an idea of who might be where and what they might be up to. Given a bit of initiative i'm sure you'd be more than able to find people to strike up conversation with here about all manner of things from what dyes look flattering on the face mask plate helms [i favor kobold brown] to pretty much anything... Or you can lurk silently, as many do and just keep it as a sort of "RSS" feed of goings on. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is a PVE oriented group, if you like to do dungeons, or even if you only want to do them when you need to, this is a handy group. BF focuses on getting people of Balmung together before resorting to PUGs, you'll find lots of different players here, some like me are farming a dungeon for exp or gear and will do a few runs. Others want a top tier healer for some Coil. I hope that helps give you an idea of whats out there. As always, feel free to jump into the forums and get to know people, maybe throw up a wiki page with some ideas. Drop me a line if you have any questions and all that, Good luck in Eorzea! :cactuar:

Phoenix Down :: An IC Linkshell for Disciples of Magic
Olofantur replied to Mippa's topic in Chronicled Events
Happy to help, Perhaps a compilation of some of the resources you already have for people to reference? I use a mixture of XIVwiki.com Gamer Escape And personal Lore notes/screen shots i've kept from 1.0 going forward, but maybe you have some central places you'd like people to use as a baseline to make sure everyones on the same page. -
Phoenix Down :: An IC Linkshell for Disciples of Magic
Olofantur replied to Mippa's topic in Chronicled Events
Greetings Mippa, Have you considered making an entry at http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=15&filtertf_srvr=Gilgamesh To drum up attention as well? I know quite a few people are thrown into the linkshell hall when they arrive so it might help increase visibility. Just a thought, and good luck, hopefully plenty of interesting people will join up! As far as Ideas, Hrm, Well if you do a linkshell hall entry post, perhaps an outline of the people already involved and what they bring into it so people could see if they compliment the existing staff. Maybe a "what we want to do over the coming week-months if things take off" so that even the roughest of long term ideas can stew in the back of the aetherically minded. Just some thoughts~ -
Welcome to the RPC Lamiaris! Good to see you've made the jump in making a character wiki! Mind if I ask if you're studying any particular dialect of Mandarin? Either way, greetings! I've got a few links you might want to look over, I'm a bit rusty at this so please forgive me if it sounds a bit wonky. If you're looking to get a quick overview of a few tools here at the RPC and maybe the names of some of the support staff, the welcome post found here: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Should sort things out, it mentions the wiki, as well as things like the Lantern, a PC made news publication. With 5 years to your name in RP I imagine you've got a pretty strong basis of experience to draw from, but in case you're ever looking to refresh yourself, want a second opinion, or are not sure how to handle and Eorzea specific "thing" Eva's RP Handbook is a trove of information. [That might require some digging.] http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 But onto the communities! while you haven't mentioned what server you belong to [and I suggest adding it to your profile from the user control panel, just so people can make recommendations or try to say hello in game.] If you are on Balmung, I have two linkshells i'd like to recommend. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is a gathering of RPers from all walks oh Hydaelyn, a great way to see what people are up to, where they might be, whos talking with who. Maybe you just want to chat about some things OOC before meeting people, or maybe you want to see whos in the area of Camp Tranquil to help with something IC. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmung Finest" is a PVE centered linkshell all about getting people together on the server first to do group content. Be it Low level dungeons all the way up to the Primals. I've picked up a group here to farm Brayflox, or jumped into a HM Titan as a healer. If you prefer to find people "close to home" before using the duty finder, this is a great choice. Hrm, thats a bit of a start, hopefully nothings put you off. As you can see from the posts above me, the RPC is an open community with plenty of people to talk to. Feel free to drop into the forums, ask some questions, make some friends and all the fun stuff. Hope to see you in Eorzea! :cactuar: EDIT: aha! Balmung, thanks for the update!
-
I wish wish wish wish wish wish they would do it like Rift's system! You just want to run around looking like a chef while you heal people. BE HONEST
-
Greetings and welcome to the RPC as the others have said Shaori, Excuse me while I dust off the welcome mat! Have you had the chance to look around? maybe clicked on a few links, scrolled through the thread? think you might be missing something? I suggest checking out http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome A generic welcome post provided to help outline a lot of the resources here at the RPC as well as pointing out the names of a few of the support staff. You mentioned being an old hand at RP, and theres nothing to make sure you're up to snuff quite like DnD, but if you'd like to know some Hydaelyn specific things, or maybe just brush up over all, the RP handbook provided and compiled by Eva is an excellent resource: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 If you're in search of communities, the others have made good suggestions, i'll throw in a few as well, they might fit depending on what you're looking for. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is an excellent way to meet people OOC, plan a get together, talk about the latest Chris Hiddleston chest pic, ect. All the good stuff. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is a PVE centered linkshell all about the group content, from doing dungeons to plowing through primals, if you're looking for a group, or just want to jump into other peoples parties without worrying about duty finder PUGS who won't put that stupid topaz carbuncle away. Hrm, well i'm a bit out of practice, so thats all for now. As the others have shown the community is fairly open, and there are plenty of people to answer questions or provide perspective. Hope to see you out in Eorzea, and good luck! EDIT: DAMN I knew i forgot something! just a quick note, the RPC wiki will use you're regular RPC log in, there are a few templates Deirdre has provided and lurking around other peoples is a great way to see what works for who. Tah-tah!
