I (and many others) will be on Balmung fairly late tonight if you have any questions and prefer to ask in game, either way, good luck! Oh and I would be remiss if I didn't mention http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=event&eid=55 This happening on Saturday evening, while perhaps not the best way to "ease in" it should provide a good show to see a crowd out and about if that interests you and the others. cheets!

Greetings and welcome to the RPC Sona! Good to hear you've got a group of people to roll around with! While I wouldn't presume to say there is no RP on Phoenix, Balmung and Gilgamesh are the "Hot spots" as it were. I'd suggest rolling alts on either (or both maybe.) and taking a look around here on the site to see what one you might want to reroll on, or transfer to. But anyways! onto the usual blurb of information. You've likely ran into most of this if you've been poking around, but who knows, maybe you'll share this with the brother or the SO. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome That ^ is a welcome post to the RPC that outlines a lot of the resources that are here for you as well as give you a bit of information on the RPC itself. If you have experiance in RP the following link will likely cover a lot of what you already know, but there is a great deal of information the pertains to FFXIV in particular as well as Eva simply doing a fantastic job of outlining a lot of concepts, providing examples and viewpoints. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 While a bit lengthy for a casual read, I still highly recommend it if you have some down time from studying. But onto the communities! lets say, hypothetically you use a server transfer service, or you reroll, or maybe just have a few alts. There are a couple of key communities between Gilgamesh and Balmung that I think help people get to know whos out there. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" on Balmung is and Out of Character hub for roleplayers, serving to get people in touch, keep communication open, and help you get to know the people behind the characters. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 "Coalition" on Gilgamesh is much like Intermission in serving to get people from across the server together in an OOC context. But maybe you just want to run some dungeons and plug away at the story.. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is a great example of one of a few PVE linkshells that exist to help coordinate dungeon runs. I think that keeping the parties amoung people of the server and only resorting to duty finder when necessary both helps to reduce the queue time for poor lonely DPS, as well as strengthen the ties between the players themselves. That and people are less likely to drop group after a single stumble! I hope this helps give you a bit of information about whats out there, and though theres not much evidence I have of roleplay on Phoenix maybe a lurker or two will come along and prove me wrong. As always feel free to ask any questions you might have, raise a concern or two, go party it up on the forums. I'll be in Eorzea! :cactuar:

Transferring Crysta isn't something I think is implemented, or will likely be.. Though of course, who knows! What I do know is that you can get a Ultimate Pay card which he can use that to buy crysta. So long as you provide the code from it to the person you want to have the crysta.

Oh its all in character, The Ossuary is frequently left open, so when i'm not wandering Thanalan with the few of them, we like to speak there. I would never dream of using RL literature is such a way, and even IC I make my students promise no use of Thaumaturgy to prevent damaging the books.
-
Mh isn't it smacking each other with books, the heavier the better? There take some Tolstoj! Taste my Tolkien! Except with Eorzean authors. Actually, T'lamila would really think it means that, eh.... Its not just smacking though, with the breadth of most libraries, the projectile method seems to serve well. Theres also using them as traps around tight corners, stacking the heavier tomes on the edges of shelves so they fall in the others hunt ect. I'll admit, sometimes my teaching gets a bit dull and I know working my students too hard can make them stir crazy so once a moon or so to let them wind down is handy.

Hello Seiji! I actually poked around a bit and found that you have indeed been lurking for quite some time! So i'll skip the usual deluge of links and instead, like many others welcome you to the RPC. While Cadence looks like one of those filthy Wildwood types, there's no higher calling than some scholarly endeavors! Perhaps a trip to the Ossuary is in order? Don't get me wrong face punching is fun, but I prefer book fights. (More exciting than it sounds, you actually have to pick author or genre, hunt them down and use them as- Ah well maybe later.) Good luck in Eorzea, and feel free to flag me down if you ever see me running about the wide world. :cactuar:

To be honest, aside from welcome posts and occasional discussions, I lurk a lot more than I post >_> :chocobo:

Eh, i'll update you through Balmung Finest if/when it gets rolling. (if that works)

Hello Sarlorius! we all had to start somewhere! glad to hear you've decided to make an attempt here. I'm going to preface everything i'm a bout to say with a big fat "Take your time! don't rush! I'm just providing resources in an effort to make things more accessible." There are a lot of people in the RPC who will be more than happy to help you along your way. Onto the links! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome That post is a "Welcome" on behalf of the RPC as a whole to any and all new players who join us. It talks a bit about the RPC itself, and some of the tools available to everyone who'd like to use the. The linkshell hall, Lantern, wiki ect. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 This RP handbook written by the illustrious Eva is a great resource to kill in any gaps of knowledge you might have about roleplaying in general and with a specific focus of FFXIV roleplay. The index at the top (hidden in the spoiler) should help you get a feel for how the main categories are broken down. Though lengthy it is worth the read for new and old players a like. But maybe you just want to jump in and start frolicking, well... start frolicking! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is like a gigantic forums for roleplayers to OOC shout things at each other, be it their favorite colour, the particular brand of laced doily they might be looking for as well as a whole host of other information. Really an awesome place to get to know people. As a warning the majority of people here are 'mature' so there might be the occasional genitalia joke, all in good humor I assure you. (look out for the Roegadyn, they're usually the worst hehe.) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is an out of character linkshell all about that sweet sweet group content. Farming a dungeon to get a piece of gear you think looks good? heres the place to find the group, or even just to farm out mythology tomes. Part of the ideal behind BF is to give a chance to work together and strengthen the community not just through talking, or character interaction. Just another way to get to know the people of the RPC. And i'll leave off with a bit of an advertisement of an event coming up! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=event&eid=55 The Coffer and Coffin is an open Tavern RP this weekend. There's no requirement of attire, duration of stay or fee to enter. Just pop in when ever you'd like, say hello or stick to yourself. Good chance to see just how many people are out there. Hope you have the chance to meet a lot of interesting people out there. And please let me (or the many other RPCers) know if you have any questions or concerns! :cactuar:

At least it was still on the front page! Only have to lose a pinky and not the whole hand to recompense the great dishonour.

I bet you were out there in the world living real life...shame on you!!! I was shoveling snow in the great white north among other things, i'm sorry, consider me shamed. :sleepy:

D: SO MANY PEOPLE ALREADY POSTED WHAT AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE /weep I'm tired Q_Q Hello and welcome to the RPC! Looks like you've already for a feel as to the helpfullness of the community, so i'll just skip ahead to a few additional links. ( a lot of people mentioned them by name, soooo tah da!) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome BAM! welcome link, outline of the RPC, touches on some of the main tools here, hopefully you'll have some time to poke around the Lantern, maybe read a wiki or two.. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 BAM 2! This RP handbook put together by Eva is really one of the best ways to create a solid foundation of information about not only roleplay in general, but the specifics of the FFXIV universe, Teleporting, the Echo, as well as a whole host of other little tid bits. And onto the communities! that a few people already mentioned. (Sine you're in the UK I highly recommend taking a look at Rinhs suggestions, they're great groups and will likely have a high level of activity during your play time.) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" which has been mentioned is a blanket OOC linkshell for Rpers here on Balmung, few better ways to get to know the folks, even if you just want to sneak around quietly, listening in. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is a dungeoning initiative centered around getting people through group content, maybe your stuck on a dungeon or don't want to deal with random cross server people giving you grief for not knowing everything already? heres the place to go! Just to close off, theres also a small event happening on the approaching Saturday, while the time might not be the best, the doors are always open! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=event&eid=55 Feel free to flag me down if you ever see me running about in game, i'm always happy to chat. Now i'm off to reply to all the other threads i've missed Q_Q :cactuar:

Greetings from your friendly neighborhood ficus!
Olofantur replied to BroodingFicus's topic in Welcome Desk
Greetings and as the ones before me have said welcome to the RPC Ficus I nosed around your previous posts and have to say I really like the art thread. There are a lot of talented people here and its always nice to see more join. The opportunity to see a representation of how the owner sees their character, the subtle expressions, the colours, its all very informative. my own artistic skills aren't impressive so i've turned to making commissions instead. I suggest regularly updating your art thread maybe once a month or so, there are undoubtedly plenty who would be interested. Theres also a favorite site of mine https://artistsnclients.com That serves is an intermediary between clients and artists (as the name says T_T) allowing security for both sides (auto water marking, only release upon payment ect.) But onto the deluge of links! maybe you've seen this stuff, maybe you haven't hopefully at least some small nugget of information will come out of it! (Also, nice wiki entry a lot of people don't realize just how much traffic those pages get!) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Fairly simple, gives you a bit of information about the RPC as well as talks about the major parts of the RPC, Lantern, Wiki, Linkshell hall etc. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 This is an RP handbook, and while a great deal of the information is likely a re-tred to "old hat" RPers, there are some sections that are exclusive to FFXIV, namely The Echo & Teleportation. The rest is certainly worth a skim over if nothing else for the well framed ideas and examples provided. But maybe you just want to jump right in, which is certainly a charming idea! I'm surprised neither Faye, nor Rinh mentioned their respective organizations "Harbingers of Dawn" And "The Travelers Guild"/ Europa / the other ones whos name I always forget T_T. Anyways! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" - fairly standard, OOC linkshell fileld with RPers just.. well talking really, about all manner of things. as a warning, some of the topics can be a bit.. adult, but there's also a lot of information on where people are, what they might be up to an all that jazz. Plenty of Pearl holders, so getting in touch with them should be fairly easy But perhaps you just want to have a group to smash your face against HM Titan with, and I think its an excellent bonding experience.. HM titan that is, face smashing can be a bit hit or miss. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" Is another OOC linkshell, but is dedicated to group content. Braylox, Stone Vigil, the much maligned Aurum Vale and beyond. It focuses on 'balmung first' grouping people on the server, working together and powering through when other "Pugs" might drop group at the first hiccup. An finally a moment to plug my own initiative (shameless I know..) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=event&eid=55 The Coffer and Coffin even on the coming Saturday is open to all, any person, and clothes, any time (almost.) The last event got quite large, and while it had its peaks and valleys of activity, I like to think it helped a lot of people get a feel for the different groups and size of the player base. Perhaps you can stop in, maybe sneak into the corner. Whelp, thats about all I can think of for the moment. I hope that you know the offers of those above me are quite sincere, there are many out there willing to help, to get to know people and to offer their time and answer any questions you might have. Best of luck in Eorzea, hope to see you around :cactuar: -
http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5071 :cactuar: this includes a translated map of the in game areas allowing for a better understanding of what exactly the "indigo Deep" was that the blood Admiral found the first "reliable" way through.

*waggles his fingers* cooo~ooome Cui~ jooooooin uuuuuussssss~ http://starbound-servers.net/server/5/ This ones open to everyone by-the-by, Ayeso is a co-worker and while not into RP he says that he doesn't mind it happening on the planets, just know its a public server so you may want to post the coordinates of your "home" planet here so other people can find you. Also its been up for a while so bring some stuff with you from single player to jump out of the first system, its mined dry! cheers
-
Sure is! You can reach me there as "Olofantur" and the leader of the RPC steam group is "Sateaux" Also working on getting us a good large public server. I work with the guys who run "Getonmylevel" so i'm hoping to get permission from them. cheers! :cactuar:

Oh i totally understand that running through the dungeon killing them takes very little time, but pausing to study an enemy before engaging. playing with the scales in Qarn to try out different combinations (IC) could take a great deal of time. A miner being protected by a mercenary troop in copper bell searching for a node or two. I think, like in most cases this would be solvable by providing options. Create the potential for people to queue with or without timers, (and to ensure their being no division and even longer queues in the case of DF, they can maintain it pulling from the same player pool and instead, like 'in progress' make it something that only happens as an aside.) where as when you enter with a premade I think it should be fully up to the party leader. Ideally this would allow people who want the timer to opt out completely, while providing people who want it with the chance to get it (again like the 'in progress' option.) it would likely be a rare occurrence outside of premades, but i'm all for providing more options to tweak ones experience. Food for thought though.

Karazhan parties were the best! My old guild had a banquet there, after we fed Moroes' bones to the dogs first, of course haha. But where's this petition you mention? I'll sign it. I for the life of me can't find it under http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/forums/648 at the moment, but when I get home i'll try to do a more comprehensive search and update. As an aside, heres an ongoing quality of life thread, with quite a few dev responses http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/70697-Some-suggestions-mostly-quality-of-life-obvious-things http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/70697-Some-suggestions-mostly-quality-of-life-obvious-things?p=1260014&viewfull=1#post1260014 (just to show that they DO listen!) Also, random Liadan on the forums (The one about exploiting the first time in dungeons.) kinda surprised me D: Oh gods people replying aaaa- back to hiding.. Speaking of which, more Brayflox ?
-
While i'm a huge advocate, and would love to tag along for any that end up occurring I would like to raise the note that is imperative (if you support this idea) To make your voice heard on the official FFXIV forums petitioning for the extension or removal of the timer. While initially a great deal of the timers implementation was due to infrastructure (ensuring the separate servers who host the actual instances were not over laden or filled with people putzing about, 90 minutes into Brayflox because the healer keeps arguing with the tank. you can see evidence of this when you have a full party and get a 'waiting to reserve an instance') With the level of support A realm reborn has received and the stability of the not insubstantial player base, I don't think it would be beyond them to (over time, i'm not expecting it any time soon.) lengthen the time limit as additional blades are added, eventually removing the non-mechanics based timers. I greatly miss studying the relics of Dzemeal Darkhold, though it has changed much. And the Sunken Temple of Qarn is just begging to be explored more... just my 2gil, if such a linkshell is put together, please let me know. Oh WoW.. my favorites were the rather common Karazhan, using the dance floor to host parties and the chess table for matches. As well as Magisters Terrace like Siha mentioned. OH! and how could I forget Ulduar...

Greetings Jin! and welcome to the RPC, Great to see you've already signed up with a group, while i'm not very familiar with the Gridanian Surveyors I trust they've helped make you feel welcome and provided some insight into the game! You may have seen me running around on Quarimar, perhaps on the forums here, i've got some links to share with you. You've likely already come across this information in one form or another but hopefully this will help none the less. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This post is a welcome on behalf of the RPC to all new members, explaining a little history behind the site and providing some information on all the tools here you have to work with, from the wiki to the Lantern. While you clearly have experience out there in the wide world of Roleplay (I've enjoyed a history of MMO, Table top and Forum myself.) this RP Handbook by the illustrious Eva covers along with many over arching topics, a few that are specific to FFXIV. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Skimming over it if nothing else I think is worth the time. But onto the communities! A few more linkshells that might interest you in your bard-y adventures. "Intermission" is a linkshell for Roleplayers from all across Balmung, all about getting people together to know each other OOC. Where people are, what they might be doing, whats planned for the night ect. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 Or perhaps you're itching to do some dungeons, maybe a primal or two? "Balmungs Finest" has you covered! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 Running everything from the low levels for fun and gear to smashing your face against the rock wall of HM Titan! Since you mentioned living in the UK, I highly recommend taking a look at http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3026 "Europa" is focused on the "non-NA" time zones, and perhaps will provide a more active community for you than some of the NA centered groups... though theres always a lot happening everywhere! just a thought . It is as a note also and OOC "LFRP" linkshell, not unlike Intermission. I'd also like to take a moment to plug an event occurring this weekend. Not affiliated with any particular organization or group. the "Coffer and Coffin" Tavern night is all about getting people together from as many walks of life as possible. old, new, short and tall. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=event&eid=55 There's no obligation of gear, no fee required, no minimum duration of appearance. Poke your head in, chat a little, maybe grab a drink! I hope this helps give you an idea of whats out there just waiting for you to jump in to. As always please feel free to ask any questions you might have I (and many many others) have a lot of information to provide given the opportunity. Take care in Eorzea! :cactuar:

"Oh look a bird" /shoots at it "OH GOD WHY CAN IT BREATHE FIRE AAAAAAAAAA" /teleport

I'm working on a "Timelord" race for roleplaying with some of my friends (random human attricutes every time you die, including gender.), we've even put together a "TARDIS" ship for the game thats super huge, but where ever you land it leaves the TARDIS, then when you teleport it reforms around you. won't be making it public for a while, but just as a show of how robust the character and ship editor is... Theres also a few people who are making large ships to live on and only "visit" planets next generation style.

/salute, Welcome to the RPC Grina, now normally I would proceed to post about 4 paragraphs worth of links and the like, but i'll assume Hammer can shove them your way, and instead try to wake up a little more T_T There are lots of people out there with fairly limited playing times so don't worry about feeling that you're missing out by being on too early in the day. If nothing else Intermission is a great start that in many ways seems to never truly go to sleep. You can if you also take a look at http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3026 while most dedicated to Euro players, I've had many people express that its excellent for "odd hours" roleplay as well. And just a bit of shameless self promotion, The Coffer and Coffin event occurring this weekend is open to all, and so long as you can reach Ul'dah, you're more than welcome to join us (THAT GOES FOR YOU LURKERS TOO!) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=event&eid=55 Cosplaying is a lot of fun, i'm still trying to get the body paint juuuust right for my skin tone, but i'm used to putting a lot of effort into it, so I find it relaxing. That and compared to getting the Black Mage collar to sit correctly, its a breeze. Hope you have the chance to meet a lot of interesting people, and feel free to ask any questions you might have. EDIT: also, yay Roe!~ seriously, necks getting a cramp looking down at everyone, and i'm not even the tallest Elezen!
