Hello Rythulian, Its too bad that it hasn't worked out for you up until this point, but maybe [and with the support of all the others here] we can make that change now! You said you've raid a few hadbooks, i'm guessing you took a look at the RP handbook provided by Eva at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 ?? its a great resource if not. But any ways, i've got a few things that might help you on your way. Though I also suggest taking up the kind people in this thread on their offers! Faye is a member of HoD, a group thats done good work from those i've encountered, and Dragonspec has made a push to create a friendly and welcoming Linkshell [as well as an FC, though i'm not sure if the pirate thing is up your alley.] The welcome post on the front page: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Should help you get acquainted with the resources and key community members here at the RPC, the wiki, linkshell hall, Calendar and all that jazz. Speaking of Calendar, theres two events happening on Balmung this Saturday! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=dayview&calendar=1&year=2014&month=2&day=22 HoD is hosting a kind of post valentines IC event that might interest you, and the Coffer and Coffin tavern night is a fairly large gathering in Thanalan of all sorts of people. Both are great chances to get to see whose out there and what they might be up to. If you're looking for a few OOC linkshells to delve into "Intermission" at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 Is a good hub of people, roleplayers of all different types meet and speak in Intermission. But maybe you'd like to find some people to run dungeons with? want to avoid the duty finder? http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" might be a good fit for you. As the others have said, come out and meet us. Jump into the forums, ask some questions, make a comment or two. There's plenty to do, lots of people to interact with and quite the community to help you along your way. Good luck out there, and feel free to flag me down if you see me running about! :cactuar:

Hello Cora! I tend not to recommend FCs or IC groups since their each very nuanced communities with their own habits and trends, but I will say the HoD is a group i've seen get traction with many people and all my interactions with their members have been positive! Not having much experience in MMOs is totally okay, and its unfortunate you're getting a hassle for it, the industry needs new people! fresh eyes and willing minds! But anyroad I have a few links i'd like to share with you that will hopefully help you get your feet wet with both the community and RP in Eorzea. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This welcome post will cover a bit of an introduction to the site as well as mention and link to some of the popular resources here. The wiki hosts character profiles and lore, the forums are a hotbed of discussion, the Calendar hosts a number of events. Speaking of Calendar, this Saturday on Balmung two events are happening!: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=dayview&calendar=1&year=2014&month=2&day=22 The Harbingers of Dawn are hosting an Date auction of a kind, and there is the Coffer and Coffin tavern night. both great chances to see whats out there! If you'd like to brush up on your RP skills without diving head first in game, the RP handbook by Eva is an excellent resource that can be found here: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 You'll find an index spoiler tagged at the top, looking through it should give you a good idea of whats covered, and its a lot!. But maybe your interested in a few more communities, I have two OOC [out of character] communities on Balmung i'd like to share. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is a hub of interaction for roleplayers across the server of all different types. Want to know where people are, what they're up to and if you can join in? this is a great place to find out! Heck even if you're a little shyer or prefer just to listen you'll catch plenty of interesting information here that will help you get to know the people you meet out in the world. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is all about the PVE, Dungeons, Primals, Raids. If you need a group to slog through some content with this is a great place to start. Unsatisfied with Duty Finders telling you to rush through stuff on your first time? want to farm a dungeon for some gear? this is a great place to start! Hope I haven't bored you to tears, please remember that the RPC is here to help. Ask all sorts of questions, poke around the forums, maybe throw together a character wiki, theres lots to do and plenty of people to meet! Best of luck in Eorzea, and feel free to flag me down if you see me running about in Thanalan :cactuar:

Happy to help! and glad to hear you're already enjoying Eorzea! hopefully you'll find a good group to roll with through your adventures. And remember that Lalafell is the master race! -
Hello Gabrial! welcome to the RPC and Eorzea! Getting your feet wet in the proverbial RP pool can be tricky but thankfully the RPC is here to see you out into the world with all sorts of neat things! As a note, when/if you have the chance, please hop into the control panel and add your intended home server to your profile so people can more easily invite you to events, or to meet them in game and all that jazz. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This welcome post should give you a pretty good over view of the site as a whole as well as some details about the community. Clicking on some of the links you'll find yourself in the Wiki [a home to character profiles and more], the Event Calender [Come check out whats happening on Saturday! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=dayview&calendar=1&year=2014&month=2&day=22 ] and much more. If you'd like to brush up on your RP knowledge without jumping into the game, or just want something on hand that you can take a look at when you're feeling a bit lost, the RP Handbook by Eva is an excellent resource: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 You'll find an index at the top hidden in the spoiler tag, reading through it should give you a good idea of what major points the handbook covers. But onto the communities! Since i'm not sure what server you're on i'll give you a few of both, and maybe you'll find some traction. Just remember that these communities are so much more than I could describe and getting to know them in game is really the best way to see if you fit. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is an OOC linkshell on Balmung dedicated to getting roleplayers together from across the server. Want to listen in on some chatter? get to know the players before the characters? find out where the busy places are? Intermission is a great place to be for getting your foot in the door. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is an OOC linkshell on, you guessed it, Balmung. With an emphasis on PVE this linkshell is great for people looking to find a party for dungeons, primals and raids. Need to do Stone vigil for the story? maybe Darkhold for your grand company? BF provides groups based on fostering the community here on the server before relying on the party or duty finder. If you play during EU times "Europa" is an excellent OOC linkshell on Balmung for those times [along the lines of intermission in getting people together.] http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=6316 But maybe you're on Gilgamesh, and in that case I would recommend the "Coalition" and "Limitless Sky" http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 "Coalition" being an OOC hub for congregation Where "Limitless Sky" is an IC hub: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=2739 As always, please remember that the RPC is here to help. If you have questions, comments or concerns, feel free to post them and there are plenty of people across the site and community at large who will be willing to provide an opinion on all sorts of things. Best of luck in Eorzea! :cactuar:

Hello hello! Nice to see some people taking up FFXIV on steam, I wish there was a way to tie in the existing game officially, but I launch mine through steam. If you'd like an invite to the RPC Steam group [some occasional games of CIV and TF2,] feel free to send me a message at my name "Olofantur" and i'll get you invited. So what other MMO's have you played? I started in UO, but I was too young to really enjoy it or understand it [woo kid gaming!] but by the time EQ came around I was ready for it and on my way. You'll find plenty of veterans of both the RP community and the MMO community here. Anywho~ i've got a few links i'd like to share. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This welcome post is to all RPC new members, talking a bit about the community, mentioning a few key members and giving a short description of some of the tools here at your disposal, like the event calendar! Heres a link to the events on the coming saturday: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=dayview&calendar=1&year=2014&month=2&day=22 So on Balmung theres the Harbingers of Dawn Post-Valentine, valentine event, as well as the Coffer and Coffin tavern night. And on Gilgamesh A Date roulette and the Echo Knights Tavern night! But maybe you'd like to brush up on some RP knowledge? Or just want to see how some other people handle the ideas? Evas RP handbook: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Is a wealth of knowledge on a variety of topics. Everything from separating the different styles, to some of the pitfalls that people get stuck in. The index at the top should give you a good idea of whats covered. But onto the communities! Since you've listed your server as Gilgamesh, I have an IC and OOC linkshell suggestion for you to help get your foot in the RP door, http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 "Coalition" is an OOC hub for roleplayers from across Gilgamesh to meet each other, get to know each other. There is also "Limitless Sky" for IC interaction found: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=2739 Hopefully that give you an idea of whats out there waiting for you, theres a lot more, but twelve knows I can drone on if given the chance. Feel free to jump into the forums and poke around in some of the ongoing discussions. Please remember to ask any questions you might have, the community here is quite large and helpful as long as you're willing to reach out to them. Best of luck out in Eorzea, and if you ever drop into Balmung feel free to wave me down! :cactuar: -
Hello and welcome to the RPC Edge, Good to see you've got quite a bit of experience under your belt, that'll hopefully make it easier to jump into the community. There are a lot of MMO veterans here as well so you'll be in good company roleplaying, PVEing and PVPing. Before I continue I must say.. Finally have the chance to get back in the groove~ its nice! But anyroad, here are some links that you might find useful as you get used to the RPC and the RP community at large in Eorzea. [As a note, if you have the chance, please pop into the Player CP "control panel" and list the server you'll be playing on primarily to make recommendations and plans to interact a bit easier.] Heres a welcome post the the RPC as a whole: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Touching on some of the key resources here like the wiki, the linkshell hall and the calendar. It also tells you a bit about the history of the community and lists a few key members here that you might run into [As a note Kylin has stepped down as the RPC admin, and FreelanceWizard has stepped up to champion the role.] If you'd like to brush up on some MMO RP information, want to see how some other people approach things, or are just curious about Eorzea specific situations the RP handbook provided by Eva is an excellent resource: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 The index hidden in the spoiler tag at the top should give you a good overview of the major topics and make skimming to parts you're interested in a bit easier. But onto the communities! I have a handful of OOC linkshells I like to recommend to new people to help get their foot in the community door, since their divided by server make sure to take note of the server tags listed on their linkshell hall entries! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" Is a hub for roleplayers across Balmung to chat and get to know each other. Talk about whats happening where, who is on when, or just have a laugh. Listening in can be a great way to get to know some of the more outgoing members that can serve as good guides to whats out there. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is a PVE linkshell dedicated to getting people together for group content of all levels and difficulty. This linkshell relies on building relations in the Roleplaying community of Balmung before resorting to the duty or party finder, if you're looking to do end game raids, or just want to farm some items to sell this might be a good choice! No level requirement, just a desire to get out there and slay some baddies. If you're playing from an EU time zone on Balmung I recommend taking a look at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=6316 Or http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 If you're on Gilgamesh, but gilgamesh has a whole host of communities that i'm not super familiar with and you could probably be served better by making the venture into their section of the linkshell hall yourself. Hope I haven't bored you to tears! There's a lot out there to do, plenty of people to meet, maybe jump in the forums or hit up some of the RP hot spots in game [when matinence is done of course.] either way, remember that the RPC is here to help, ask questions, make comments voice concerns. Hope to see you in Eorzea, and feel free to flag me down if you ever see me running about. :cactuar:

Hello and welcome to the RPC Yachiru, As Erik said you'll find many of the people here quite positive and friendly. Good to see you've already got a bit of experience in Eorzea, maybe you've already met some members of the community. Mind if I ask how you heard about the RPC? Either way, I have a few bits of information i'd like to share. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This introduction post will tell you about the RPC's history and mention a few of the key resources here that you'll have to use through your adventures like the Wiki [home to character profiles and more.], the forums [A hotbed of discussion] and more. I'm not sure what your experience is with roleplaying, but everyone from veterans to newbies can benefit from at least skimming through Evas RP handbook found at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 I think it does an excellent job of providing a few different view points of some key topics as well as mentioning how some Eorzea specific situations could be handled. [Just remember that its your game out there, plenty of room for interpretation.] But maybe you're just looking for a community or two to get your feet wet and meet some people in game. [Reading through the Linkshell hall is a great idea to learn more about them.] http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is a large gathering of Roleplayers from across Eorzea into an OOC hub of chatter and connections. Get to know more about people, more about the different groups, what they're up to, when events are happening so much more. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is a group dedicated to PVE content, bringing people together from across Balmung and helping get to know your fellow players before resorting to the Dungeon and Party Finder. As a note this isn't limited to end game content! Farming lowbie dungeons for EXP and Gear happens as well, I myself am still churning my way through Dz Darkhold to level up. Hopefully that gives you a good idea of whats out there and waiting for you, though there is so much more! As always, feel free to ask any questions, voice any concerns or make any comments you might have, the forum is filled with people willing to give an opinion or provide some resources. See you in Eorzea! :cactuar:

To back that up, the few cases we have of cross tribe [KeeperxSeeker] Characters in game side with one or the other [naming convention.] F'lhaminn being arguably the best example [signs of keeper genetics, but raised with a Seeker name] Side note, anyone else thing the ARR Goobbue bit a nice tie in with the 1.0 one? or rather, nod to it?

Hello Aiden and welcome to the RPC, If you have the chance could you pop into the user control panel and throw in what server you intent to be on? its not super important, just lets people know where to find you and all that jazz.. But anywho~ Again, welcome! There's certainly plenty to do, If you take a look at the forums you're likely to find something that interests you, Thaliak knows there are a lot of conversations going on and plenty of debate between the participants. If you're looking to help get your foot in the door I have a few links to share with you. First is the welcome post provided by the RPC to all members found at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Here you'll find a bit about the site over all, some links to the different resources across the site along with a short descriptions [like the wiki! home of character profiles and much more.] and a list of some of the community heads. I'm not sure about your history with Roleplaying, but even if you're a veteran of MMO-RP you might find a few things of interest in the roleplay handbook provided by Eva at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 The text covers a variety of topics and presents different ways of viewing them. It also touches on some Eorzea specific situations you might find yourself in, handy if you'd like to see how someone else approaches the same mechanics/activity. Onto the communities! The first two will be from Balmung, and the Third from Gilgamesh, so use as needed. All three are OOC and from my experience fairly active, welcome to newcomers and good places to get to know the people out in the world. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is an OOC hub of conversation bringing together RPers of all different styles from across Balmung. If you want to know whos on at what hours, where they might be or what events might be happening [that aren't listed on the RPC calendar] this is a great place to look. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is all about the group content. Farming the lowbie dungeons to get that acolyte set, smashing your face against Aurum Vale for your grand company, or farming for tomes, Balmungs Finest is the place to be to find groups or find people that are focused on building connections without resorting to the duty finder. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 "Coalition" on Gilgamesh is an OOC RPer hub. Getting together to meet new people, introduce them to older members and help people a little lost immerse themselves in the community. I hope that helps give you an idea of whats out there and waiting for you, as always please ask any questions you might have, the community is full of helpful people always willing to lend an opinion if not more. [Though sometimes you might have to bribe them with a Cookie or two.] Best of luck out there and hope to see you in Eorzea! :cactuar:

Hello Khaya and welcome to the RPC! You'll find plenty of artists down in the forums who you can share art with, doing commissions is a pretty reliable way to get some gil around these parts [when they can scrape enough together to spend.], people just love art. I'm not very familiar with EU communities on Gilgamesh since I haven't spent much time there, but i'm sure if you took a look at the linkshell hall and followed up with the OOC hub linkshell I link below they could point you in the right direction.. anyroad, I have a few things i'd like to share. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This welcome post will give you a little overview of the RPC, mentioning a bit of history, what resources you have at your disposal and listing a few of the community key members. [Also as note Kylin has stepped down as Admin and FreelanceWizard has stepped up to take the role..] SO hopefully this will help you explore a bit more, I'm a big fan of the character wiki pages and the Lantern [an IC publication.] You mentioned some MMO-RP experience [wooo~ WoW, I was on Steamwheedle Cartel mostly but I also had alts on Wyrmrest and Twisting Nether] But in case you'd like the opportunity to brush up on some RP terms, or maybe take a look at some Eorzea specific mechanics Eva has put together: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 A wonderful compilation of information. You'll find a index hidden at the top in a spoiler tag that should help give you an idea of whats covered and skip over the parts you already feel firm in your knowledge of. But onto the communities! For Gilgamesh there is a OOC RPer hub that brings people of all different types together from across the server called "Coalition" http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 This would be a great place for you to get your foot in the door and find some more EU centered groups to interact with. If you ever hop onto Balmung there is a comparable OOC linkshell in "Intermission" http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 And an EU OOC linkshell "Europa" http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=6316 Hope I haven't bored you to tears, please remember that this community is dedicated to supporting and getting roleplayers together, so ask any questions you might have, voice any concerns, dive into the forums and have a laugh. Best of luck out in Eorzea, :cactuar:

Hello Fennec, welcome to the RPC As Steel said, knowing what server you're on will make it easier to recommend what might interest you, both Balmung and Gilgamesh support RP communities, if you've already decided on one it would be a good idea to hop into the user control panel and list that server so people can see it on your little avatar. Anyroad, I have some links i'd like to share, maybe you'll find something interesting, get an idea of whats out there and all that jazz. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This welcome post outlines a few of the key features here at the RPC like the wiki, the event calendar and the Lantern [an IC publication.] as well as telling you a bit about the RPC as a whole and listing some of the community moderators. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 This RP handbook by Eva is a great way to build a foundation of RP knowledge as she touches on a variety of view points. Be it learning from the group up, refreshing old knowledge, or taking a look at some Eorzea specific situations that you'd like to know how other people handled. As a note, an index is hidden in the spoiler tag at the top so you can get an idea of what topics are covered. But maybe you're just interested in some community suggestions. While I could never really do justice to the breadth of groups, their interactions and goals [particularly the IC ones] I do think there are a two OOC linkshells that can serve to help get your foot in the door as far as meeting more people goes. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is like a gigantic chat channel filled with people of all different styles. You could talk about where people are, what events might be coming up, what jobs have good cross class skills and about pretty much anything else you might imagine. [balmung] http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is a PVE linkshell for people across the server to get together and clear dungeons, primals, raids and occasionally even find some people for FATEs. If you'd like to build connections with people through group content or are just sick of waiting 30 minutes in the queue as a DPS, this linkshell might be right for you. Hope I haven't bored you to tears, there is so very much more out there. Jump into the forums and read an ongoing discussion, maybe browse some other peoples character wikis to see if you'd like to put up your own. Please remember to ask any questions, voice any concerns and comment on anything you'd like, there are plenty of people out there willing to give their opinion or chime in with some advice. Best of luck out there and feel free to flag me down if you ever see me running about, Thaliak knows i'm probably just doing some errands. :cactuar:

Greetings and welcome to the RPC Anansi! Yay more lalafell! Being a hospital companion certainly sounds like it affords you quite a bit of time to think things over, maybe indulge in some forum RP here on the site~. Are there a lot of Operas, Orchestral shows or Concert bands playing where you live? There was a brilliant set played recently in my home town that featured mostly Rachmaninov pieces [my favorite being Piano Concerto No.2]. Anyroad, i've got a few links i'd like to share with you that might help you get a better idea of the community, maybe get your foot in the roleplay door. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This welcome post is just a general overview of the RPC, it mentions some of the links you can find around the site as well as giving you a bit of history about the community itself. If you take a look at the bottom of the post it also mentions a few of the key members of the site, though Kylin has stepped down as admin and that role is now filled by FreelanceWizard. If you'd like to brush up on some of your RP knowledge, maybe peg down where along the medium/heavy line you'd like to be or just hear about how some other people have approached ideas in Eorzea the RP handbook by Eva: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Is a great resource. Theres an index hidden in the spoilers tag so that you can see how things are broken down, maybe skim over the bits you feel confident with to get to more interesting parts. But onto the communities! I don't think there are many better ways to get to know just whats out there than taking a look through the linkshell hall then talking to them in-game or on the forums. I do have a pair of OOC groups I would like to recommend though, maybe you'll find some traction with them and from there get to know some people that you'll interact with down the road. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is a great OOC hub of chatter for Roleplayers of all stripes to meet and talk. Finding out where people are, what they're up to, if something public is happening and oh so much more... http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" on the other hand relys on building connections through grouping. Tired of waiting in the duty finder as a dps for 30+ minutes? really need to farm Brayflox to get some gear or maybe drag some poor soul through Aurum Vale? Balmungs Finest is dedicated to grouping people of Balmung together before relying on the Dungeon Finder. Hrm, hopefully I haven't bored you to tears, and you've found something that you can run with. Please remember to ask any questions, voice any concerns, or just lurk around the ongoing discussions, there are plenty of people willing to provide their opinions on all sorts of topic. Lots to do and plenty of people to meet out there in Eorzea, so best of luck and feel free to flag me down! :cactuar:

Hello lance, as Edalyne said, welcome to the RPC, Coil can be a lot of fun with a good group and combining it with a lot of the other PVE options things can certainly get pretty distracting, but its good to see you making a post here! I've got a few links i'd like to share, some of it might seem a bit obvious, maybe you've talked to the group mentioned before but here we go. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This welcome post outlines a few of the key recources hosted here at the RPC that you can see along the top bar, the wiki that hosts character profiles, the Linkshell Hall featuring all the communities that are willing to post, the Lantern and IC publication and more. If you'd like to brush up on your RP skill but don't know where to start, the RP handbook by Eva is a great place to start. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 The spoilers tag at the top hides a index of all the major points covered so you can see what areas might interest you in particular or just skim the whole thing. A point is made to look at roleplaying from a few different perspectives, so things you might already know can possibly be seen in a new light. But onto the community of Gilgamesh! while I don't feel comfortable recommending any IC groups there [partly as I don't play there much , and also because "roleplay" is such a varied idea that what fits one won't fit another.] I do have an OOC group I would like to recommend. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 "The Coalition" is an OOC hub for roleplayers of all stripes and a great way to get your foot in the door as far as meeting the community goes. I think this can be particularly helpful in finding hot spots or other people in your area. Hopefully I haven't bored you, if you feel like it I really encourage jumping into the forums and seeing if there isn't an ongoing discussion that might pique your interest. As always feel free to ask any questions, voice any concerns, and make some comments, Thaliak knows there are plenty out there willing to lend a hand or give an opinion. Best of luck in Eorzea! :cactuar:

Hai hai KB~ Welcome to the RPC and Balmung! I hope your transfer went well, there are a few people who have come over from different servers in the last month and hopefully like them you'll find yourself in the swing of things before too long. On that topic i've got a few links i'd like to share with you. The first two are on the RPC at large and Roleplay, the second are some OOC communities I think might interest you. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This generic welcome post outlines a few of the key features here at the RPC, the wiki, calendar, lantern ect. As well as listing some key community individuals at the bottom of the post. [Though Kylin is stepping down as Admin and FreelanceWizard is stepping forward to carry the mantel.] If you'd like to familiarize yourself with some RP information that you might find more tailored to a MMO setting, or if you'd just like to brush up on your knowledge of the different kinds out there few resources cover the topic as completely as the following Roleplay Handbook by Eva http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Using the index in the "spoilers" to skip down to the areas that interest you should help break it down into more digestible chunks if you're just looking to confirm some of your own ideas or get a second opinion. But onto the communities! I'm not a big fan of recommending IC groups because I feel that you know what you want better than anyone else so a "just go check out the linkshell hall" might serve you best, many of the groups are open for questions in game or on the posting page (though it may take them a while to get back to you.) Anyways, I do have some OOC groups i'd like to recommend. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is a chat channel spanning Roleplayers of all types across the realm. If you'd like to listen in on what people are talking about, or throw some random questions out to see how people feel, Intermission is a great place to do it. Though I would warn you that things can get pretty rambunctious. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs finest" is a OOC linkshell dedicated to group content. If you've ever waited in the queue for half an hour or got stuck on Aurum Vale because everyone eats the morbol Fruit as soon as they get one stack of the debuff this might be the place for you. Building connections through dungeons, Primals and raids of all sorts. If I haven't bored you yet I think that its a great idea that you're hoping into the forums, there are plenty of discussions happening that could be of interest to you, and as always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to voice them there are many people here that are willing to give an opinion on pretty much anything. Best of luck in Eorzea, and flag me down if you ever see me running about :cactuar:

Greetings Pip! And welcome to the RPC and Eorzea at large. Good to hear you're already immersed in the game to some extent and have some experience under your belt. Having a good idea of what you're looking for in a community and in the game itself I think helps prevent that general milling about [that while can present its own opportunities, can also leave people feeling.. "bland" for lack of a better term.] I've got a few links i'd like to share with you, a Welcome post to the whole of the RPC, a RP handbook and two communities that are fairly "steady" among the RPC. As a note neither of them are IC or roleplay based, that being such a personal thing I don't really think it appropriate to nudge one ahead of the other but anyways~ http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This is the mentioned welcome post that covers a few of the primary resources here at the RPC, including the wiki, lantern, forums and the like. You did how ever mention a lore vacuum so a few links for that might be helpful [though there are a great deal of forum posts on varying things and the discussions are very fruitful, I like to cross reference with some of the following sources.] http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Main_Page http://xivwiki.com/Main_Page [A particularly interesting story being: http://gamerescape.com/2013/08/21/the-rise-and-fall-of-the-white-raven/ ] But onwards! It sounds like you have quite a bit of RP experiance so you might just want to skim this next link, maybe pick up some Eorzea specific situations that you might like to know how other people work into their narrative. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Evas RP handbook really is quite something, make sure to use the index at the top if you'd like to skip over some of the more general notes. Now the communities... http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is a great open grouping of roleplayers from across Balmung who are interested in many different types and styles of roleplay, but in this LS you can also just end up talking about.. well pretty much anything.. Or maybe you'd like to get some dungeons done, another great way to forge some bonds with people, farm so gear or just get some tomes for trading in. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" prioritizes grouping on Balmung before resorting to the Duty or Party finder and is comprised [like intermission] of all sorts of players. I hope that helps give you an idea of whats out there waiting for you, as always feel free to ask any questions, voice any concerns, maybe hop into the forums and nose around the ongoing discussions. Twelve knows there's plenty to do out there, hope to see you in Eorzea, always nice to see another Duskwight :cactuar:

Hullo Hullo Jin! welcome to the RPC! Glad to hear you had the chance to transfer with someone, Thaliak knows its more relaxing to drag someone else into shenanigans with you. Hopefully your activity on Balmung so far has been entertaining, maybe you've met a few people, encountered an interesting group or two. I've got a few things i'd like to share that will hopefully help you immerse yourself further in the Balmung community, the RPC and roleplaying on a general level.. but anywho~ Please take a look at this welcome post: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome That outlines a few of the key features here at the RPC. The Linkshell hall where you can review communities, the Forums a great place for discussion, maybe take a look at the Calendar or the wiki. It also lists a few of the community "Key people" at the bottom that you can keep an eye out for. If you'd like to brush up on your RP terminology, want to take a look at how some other people approach different scenarios, or hear about alternate ways to interpret Eorzea specific situations there are few better resources out there than: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 The RP hand book by Eva, quite lengthy indeed, but the index at the top and division of sections makes it broken up into something more easily treated as a reference than a text book. But maybe you're just looking for a communities, The Linkshell hall is a great place to start looking, read up on their RP, maybe find out where they gather on the "RP locations thread" and observe or just outright message them! There are so many different styles of RP and goals in mind for each individual I think that its really hard to make recommendation in that area. OOC however I do have two groups I think you might be interested in. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is dedicated to... well probably best to read the linkshell hall entry and hop in to get an idea of it. Everything from a serious "who's where doing what" to talking about what shade of yellow looks best to off set the kobold brown plate pants. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is all about the group content. Need to farm Brayflox for those twelves cursed Battlemage gloves? or maybe you're looking to find an Aurum Vale group that will actually consume fruit at the correct stack of "briars". Balmungs Finest is dedicated to getting the people of Balmung together to work and build relationships before relying on cross server PuGs. I hope that helps give you an idea of whats out there and waiting. It can take quite a bit to get your foot in the door but just going out and interacting with the people [be it here or in game] is a great first step. Please let me know if you have any questions you'd like an opinion on and i'll do my best to provide one! Hope to see you in Eorzea. :cactuar:

I'm curious if it will be the full set or if it will be slot based, more like the appearance tab style. This [i think] would help make the crystals more versatile over the long run since you could swap items across jobs that couldn't normally use them as well as making the crystals bound to the level range of the particular item instead of the full set. For example, the ever popular Ul'dah Dancer look has DoW only sandals, but the pants are DoM, I would think that you would either drag, or perhaps right click use [like turning in an item for seals at a GC] then select the item you want it to mimic. maybe the shoes in this case, then switch to a DOM and equip the prism to the feet. [Or other uniforms for organizations, I think its the brass blades that have a shield thats similar to a THM one? I could be crossing wires..] I'm curious how far and if at all they'll allow you to carry over the appearance of things you aren't allowed to use on another class. Another two things I would be curious about is 1. Dual slot items prism into one slot, would it show the unprisimed piece as priority or the prism? [i imagine the prism appearance would have priority, but then that brings up the reverse, what if i'm wearing the darksteel top but equip the prism head of Valor circlet, would I have a bare chest? or would I need to equip another prism for it to be viable?] 2. Weapons, theres of course "will they let me prism my dagger to look like a cane" but also how will they handle 2h, or MH/OH combos? I think it would be interesting [though unlikely] to have Paladins running around carrying an Axe, even if that meant they would have to unequip a shield. oooh~ I wonder if you could prism "nothing" and make that into a blank slot to cover up off hand items and swap the main hand.. hrm.

Greetings Bartleby, Hrm, interesting to hear your experiences, I haven't personally had any along those lines but I can understand how it could make you feel "pppbbbttthhhh" about the whole thing as it were, so good on you for throwing yourself out there by coming here and posting. You mentioned checking out the linkshell hall, have you popped in game and made contact with anyone? I recommend [for OOC] both Intermission and Balmungs Finest http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 Intermission more for meeting random people and just "getting the pulse" as it were of the community and who might be around during what play times. I find Balmungs Finest at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 Great for building relationships with people, mostly because I just like PVE, I think it shows a lot about people how they operate in dungeon groups. I'm sure any LS is willing to give you a chance if you just touch base with them, but the two above are two i've found that get pretty good traction and if no there are plenty more! Best of luck in Eorzea and please let me know if you have any questions, concerns or comments, heck flag me down if you see me running about in game.. chances are i'm just running reagents around :cactuar:

Greetings Fellow Eorzeans! EDIT: March 13 2014: Glamour system details expanded based on post at: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/152555%3E Also, some updates on 2.2 Dungeons at Famitsu: http://www.famitsu.com/news/201403/13049740.html [align=center]---------------[/align] There was a previous Glamour speculation thread at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=6227 But it hasn't been updated in a while and with a few of the new details that have come up I thought I'd provide a link to an interview with a paragraph on it: http://gamerescape.com/2014/02/12/ps4-media-tour-interview-with-naoki-yoshida/ There's also this little: http://www.polygon.com/2014/2/13/5405344/final-fantasy-14s-playstation-4-launch-is-just-the-start-for-naoki Interview, mostly the same talk about PS4, a general and "we'd like to include so much stuff but we're tired!". [i'd be lying if casually crafting away on the Vita while bustling around the house didn't sound entertaining.] Got some new official updates to share? maybe want throw a link to be put up here in the top post? Hope to hear what you think! :cactuar:

Oh Twelve my sides, I had forgotten about that video

Boo! Wheres Minsc? Take heart fellow adventurers, for I will try to curry the favor of Boo, The only miniature giant space hamster in the Realm! Ahem. Welcome to the RPC, good to see another 1.0 member taking the plunge into the community. I'm sure you've seen plenty interesting in your time and hopefully there will be a lot more to engage in now that you've decided to formally enter the RPC. I've a few links i'd like to share, you've probably skimmed across them, but just in case. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This is a welcome post from the RPC to all newcomers detailing a few of the key features of the site from the linkshell hall, to the wiki, and my favorite the Lantern. If you check the bottom of the post theres also the names of a few key members here to keep an eye out for. You've already described yourself as having quite a bit of experience, both with the game itself and in RP, so Eva's roleplay handbook might be a bit of a re-tred for you http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 But I think it still provides a firm foundation of knowledge if you ever want to refresh yourself or know how some one else might address the same gap between mechanics and character interaction. If you're interested in a few of the communities dropping into the Forums or taking a look at the linkshell hall and asking some questions is really the most reliable way I can think of to see if any fit your style. Though I do have two OOC groups I like to recommend.. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" Being a kind of over-arching chat channel. Get to know people, where they are, what they might be up to. Maybe listen in to find out where some spontaneous events might be occurring. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is a personal favorite of mine. The idea of getting to know people and building relationships through group content is something i've been in favor of for a long time and it was nice to find a group who shares that objective. Low level, high level, gear farming, and raid groups can be found here, just make sure to speak up! I hope none of that was two boring to go through, twelve knows there's plenty of monotony out there without me adding to it. Good luck out there in Eorzea, and feel free to flag me down if you see me running about, always nice to talk to a fellow Duskwight. :cactuar:

Welcome back to the party, Still got a few linkshells? maybe hop into Intermission or Balmungs finest if you're looking for some groups. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 Not sure how long you'd had to get involved with the community before hand but theres still plenty happening if you're scrounging around in the right areas. Best of luck out in Eorzea! :cactuar:
