  1. Thank you Kym'a, hope things are going well on your end.
  2. While I haven't had the chance to be on the RPC more often, its good to see this is moving forward! Best of luck with your other works Ansemaru, I really like what you did
  3. D:! YES. Ran an undead mage name "Heartrattle" from pre-Nuru Nerf to about Mid WotlK there when Steam was being a bag of hilarious fail. I think one of the key good points of the RPC is the amount of members, no matter the interest, and even though many of them just lurk, chances are you'll find someone who is willing to give their opinion on a question you have. Lore and much else. :cactuar:
  4. As the many have said, I would echo, welcome to the stage. Be it running in the open world, or lurking in the forums, I hope many interesting people come to make your acquaintance. Best of luck with your guild, and safe journeys in the wide world. Perhaps a thing to discuss, what WoW servers did you play on? I was a Steamwheedle Cartleian, though I swung around Twisting Nether and WRA from time to time.
  5. Greeting and welcome to the RPC Avila, Ala Mhigo has plenty of interesting lore about it, the "Fists of Rhalgr" the primary monk organization in the city before their purge by the mad king. And while I think it certainly reasonable to use flight from the city at the empires arrival and ending up in Little Ala Mhigo as a solid idea, perhaps you want to touch on how his family would have been a resistance element to the Garleans. Many Ala Mhigans seeing them (initially) almost as a liberation. But there is plenty of time to find out about it and many more people with better informed graps on the lore surrounding the great city of Highlanders. Good to see you've got some experience in MMOs (wooo EQ!) and possibly elsewhere, its nice when you can hit the ground running to a certain extent. I'm going to post below a series of links that will hopefully be useful to you, the first 2 being more about the RPC, and the last few communities that you might want to take a look at in game. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This is a welcome post from the whole RPC, if you've spent some time on the site clicking around and exploring it won't likely provide anything new for you, but perhaps you over looked the Lantern. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 A roleplay Handbook made by Eva, chances are you already have a firm grasp of most of the material, how ever there are things (such as teleport via the Aethernet) that are touched on and more specific to FFXIV. Maybe just a skim through? I found it a great refresher after a break I took. But onto the communities! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is an Out of Character chatter hub for Roleplayers of all shapes, sizes, personalities and other not particularly important descriptive features. A good way to get to know the people behind the character, or even just find out where the characters are! maybe ask what they're up to, see whats going on. While you mentioned mostly playing in "off hours" for EU, I still recommend taking a look at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3026 "Europa" is an EU based Linkshell that like Intermission is great for getting to know people, though these will likely be closer to home, and understand just how hilarious it is when Arsenal beats Chelsea in another game. Or maybe you're just looking for some people to chum it up with, cracking skulls and all that jazz. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is all about group content, be it getting you a group, or filling spots that are open. From sastacha to primals, if theres content that needs to be done, these are good people to do it with. Phew, I hope none of that seemed pushy or dull. Eorzea, and the RPC even more so are filled with people, groups and organizations that are willing to do a lot to help people along their way. If you have any questions, comments or concerns feel free to post them! Best of luck in Eorzea :cactuar:
  6. "Roe, Roe, fight the power" Is all I can think of Always cool to have more tall people though, the neck cramps from looking down at most races.. yeesh!
  7. Hrm, and interesting conundrum I'm assuming its something opinion or thought related about the game (because if not there are likely better places to express it.), also there is a misstell thread if it was a gaff of communication. While I know it can be harrowing speaking up on the forums perhaps finding a community (of a more close-knit nature) would serve as a good place to speak about it? A few of the common ones that people seem odd expressing (that i've encountered) have been: Attachment to the persona of a character or one close to them, not just the actually pixels but the nuances of the relationship, be it brotherly ect. A more literal fixation on the "appearance" of a character. A sub set of that being, Hetero friends of mine have in more than one case said "ohe hey ___ looks good." blank being a male or female to match their gender. Or perhaps I miss my step, there are of course ways to get around this, making a throw away account on reddit and using the r/ffxiv subreddit, posting it to 4chan /v/ (/vg/ ffxiv general is still strong iirc.) or sending a PM to people you trust/feel confident about. Just some thoughts~
  8. Hai hai, i've seen you post around, but you'd be amazed by the number of people who don't, better safe than sorry as they say. cheers :cactuar:
  9. Just as a note Fermond, theres an ongoing discussion at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5802

    Hello

Theres both on Both! Plenty of new people have joined Both (you can take a look at the 'directory' sub forums to see some of them, or the previous welcome posts.) as well as there being vets who have rerolled to Gilgamesh or continued on Balmung. While there has been a trickle of transfers from Gil to Bal, they both have events and strong groups in the Coalition and Intermission. Or perhaps you mean the PVE community. In that case its... both as well. While Balmung had a preexisting group of PVE'ers, Gilgamesh is the 'offical' Reddit server, many of they already with multiple 50s selling HM Titan runs and full AF+1 (though thats the result of AK pre-nerf farming.) I am a bit biased admittedly, while at one time I could understand not wanting to feel "left out" of an established community, I think that with 3+ months, both servers are already firmly established. Perhaps more importantly both are very open, to new players and old players returning. Sounds like a bunch of platitudes and half answers I know, but i'm unsure of a better way to describe them.

    Hello

Hello Hrav, and welcome to the RPC, Instead of recommending one off the bat i'd like to take a moment to address the question of the "difference" between Legacy and non-Legacy servers. On a mechanical level? Legacy denotes servers pre-existing from 1.0, these servers and characters who are created on them are unable to transfer to non-legacy servers (though non-legacy can come to legacy.) In practice this means that, if we focus on Balmung that Legacy servers have a pre-existing community, for better or worse. Most of the Economic differences, while still evident, are decreasing, particularly with the latest patch (duty roulette and many other gil makers.) I'll be frank in saying that it really doesn't make an onze of difference as far as the accessibility of the community. I've rolled "test" alts on both servers just for the sake of better understanding the "new player" experience and have found time and time again that the crux of meeting interesting and open people is my characters ability to be open and engage with them (though the 'happy go lucky' miqo' gets more attention than the hellish pint-sized drunken brawler.) But we can discuss that more if you like in following posts, for now i'd like to provide you with a bit of information to supplement Sihas welcome. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This welcome post is from the whole of the RPC to new members, it covers the bulk of the resources here on the site that can be used as well as giving you a bit of information about the community itself. If you'd like to spend some time brushing up on your RP terminology, or seeing how others might wrangle with IC explanations for certain game mechanics, Eva has written an excellent Roleplay hand book that can be found at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 It cover a lot of different things, and different ways to approach them. But maybe you want to see some of the communities? I have three i'd like to recommend. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is an OOC linkshell on Balmung that serves as a hub for people. Its fairly large and theres often quite a bit of chatter. A great way to get to know the people you share the server with. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is for PVE content, Dungeons, Primals, and the like. getting groups can be fairly easy, or just dropping into slots other people need. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 "Coalition" is a Gilgamesh based OOC hub for players, get to know where people are, what they're up to, where they might be going and all that fun stuff. Hope that helps introduce you to the community a bit, i'm more than willing to discuss the nuances between them more if you'd like. Best of luck out in Eorzea, and hope you enjoy the new patch! :cactuar: EDIT: ah, I see one of the concerns was the Gil, as a note, there are a lot of people on both Balmung and Gilgamesh with a lot, and with a little. Maybe not the answer you want to hear, but the Mercenary runs hosted by big guilds, and people willing to put effort into market gaming make money regardless of server. the latest patch has introduced a few new ways of making Gil though that look promising, particularly at the higher levels.
  12. Allo allo Pikoko! welcome to the RPC as many have said, It looks like they've already addressed your questions. Rinhs suggestions of Europa and the Euro-centric FC's should help with finding people who are primarily online during your times. It took me a long time to get my first 50 in FFXIV, though that was in the previous version, I can be a bit slow as well, though I enjoy my meandering pace, no matter what anyone else says. About helping form you character, it is in many ways I think and advantage to not have a really firm idea of what you want going into the game, theres a lot of lore provided by doing the quests and seeing to world, perhaps you'll stumble on something that will provide insight into the Lalafellan way of life and give you something to build on. Any who~ here are a few links, many I imagine you've seen before, that might be helpful. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This welcome posts has links to and briefly talks about a lot of the key features at the RPC, as well as serving as a general welcome post to the community as a whole. You mentioned having some forum RP experience and some in WoW as well, but I think that this next link, an RP Handbook by Eva should still have some use to you. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 While I imagine many of the concepts are already familiar, Eva also touches on a few of the circumstances more particular to FFXIV itself. There is admittedly a lot to get through but I think it a good refresher. But perhaps you want to jump in and see some of the communities. I'll first echo Rinh in saying that Europa will likely have a fair number of people closer to your time than elsewhere, however! the following two groups are fairly sizable with a healthy mixture of night owls, early birds and day-timers. Perhaps just stopping in for a week or two and seeing how things work out might help? http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" Is an OOC linkshell that serves as a way for roleplayers to get to know each other outside of roleplay. Chatting about where people are, what they might be up to, the latest episode of some TV show, or even commenting on that handsome Roe fellow with the fancy hat. A great way (as the linkshell entry says.) to make friends. Or maybe you just want to smash some virtual skulls. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is another Out of Character Linkshell, but this one is all about group content the Trials, Primals, and dungeons. If you're farming Stone Vigil, or just really want to drag other people through Aurum Vale then this linkshell should help find you people to fill out your group. Or perhaps you're more along my lines and just like to lurk and jump into parties that are looking for people instead of making one. Phew thats a bit of information to go through. All the other posts and my own included I hope show just how open the RPC is to people, comments, questions, concerns... there are lots of people here who like to talk, and sometimes even manage to stay on topic! Best of luck out in Eorzea, and safe journeys :cactuar:
  13. /weep  I was really hoping there was something newer... dammit.
  14. *cough* there will not be personal homes anymore from what I understand. They will allow people to buy their own personal room in their FC house (probably just a common instance area in the FC house that leads to that persons room. I guess it will be sort of like the way the inn's are set up)...At least that is the last thing I read about personal houses. 1:48:22 Q: Will you be able to have individual rooms in your free company house? A: We are planning to have this after patch 2.2, but we'd like to decide whether we implement individual rooms or individual housing based on server capacity after we implement housing. However, we are planning for both. We'd like you all to be able to build a cool personal space for yourselves. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/113554-Letter-from-the-Producer-LIVE-Part-IX-Q-A-Summary-%2810-30-2013%29?p=1500050&viewfull=1#post1500050 was the last thing I read, though if you have newer info I would love to have it, the letter is rather old
  15. Many of you know Olofantur has the ever helpful RPC guy. We at the OS&R know him as Q, one of two very special officers we have. We shall make your dreams a reality, Q! T_T its not for me, its for everyone. Rest assured that I will continue to toil... i'm determined to make use of some new strategies and observe the markets closely over the next few weeks.
  16. Pssst, hey, come join us~ On the other hand, I HAVE been gaming the market, and have been farming, and while i've alone made 9mil since mid-october (With more on the side for myself.) that is purely personal endeavor, cashing in favors ect. And you know what? its destroyed my casual connections, I haven't had the time to RP, to level fun stuff, to simply stop and enjoy the game, ask T'nara or Konner how early or late they've seen me running about the world. I understand that some people love "gaming" the game. Thaliak knows I love doing the math from parsing data to perfect my BLM rotation, parsing higher and higher numbers. But this isn't a prerequisite to joining coil and neither should that dedication be a prereq to having a house. Or to put it more simply, I agree. I cannot fathom why (Though, my suspicion as to a quick way to remove RMT buyers.) they have decided to place the price so high, without any prior notification. Had I know, an inking, a number of digits, even that the lowest house would be more than 5 million, I would have saved my effort.. But now i'm just whining :< I wish you all the best of luck in your search for Gil, and if I manage to work out my next ploy to get some I will make a point of sharing it (because it doesn't rely on the market.) Back to the drawing board :cactuar:
  17. Greeting and welcome to the RPC Barbarccia. Between your post to the character directory, you status with linkshells and your friend above i'll assume you already have a firm grasp of what the RPC has to offer. There are, interestingly enough, many around who at one time associated with the Sultan sworn, perhaps organizing some gathering might be in order, ooc or IC for that matter. just a thought. It is always good to see another join the Balmung boat, and a bibliophile at that. I'm sure Anstarra has made it clear, but let me reaffirm, that the RPC is for roleplayers, questions, concerns, comments, let them be known, there are many who are willing to share their opinion. Best of luck in Eorzea, :cactuar:
  18. Let me preface this with a massive "My own wiki is still under revamp status due to the nebulous nature of some individuals I had in 1.0 relied on still dragging their feet, I gave them to the end of the year before I simply write them out. So please don't use me as any kind of example, and know that my opinion is one of literally hundreds." As well as "Your face profile image, /weep so nice, I want better facial hair in game, its lack of choices are why i've gone 'bald.' Oh god art, I always think more art is good. " On that note, i'd like to start with what I think might be simple technical changes. -The column width under "general" can be tweaked, its seems fairly small, and since you only have categories it would be safe to widen it without worrying about making a horizontal scroll. -"complimenting people, uncalled for" under "Likes" looks like it just halted mid statement. -No Colon after "Hobbies and Talents" but there is one on the other 4 Those are the only casual ones I grabbed at a first read through, now onto ideas for... well not improvement, but just to add things perhaps? As a note, the Wiki is (unless some massive change has been made) considered OOC material, keeping stuff people shouldn't know there by default should be okay and people should respect that. Though I do myself keep a copy in one note with the extra tid-bits I didn't include. Anywho! I don't think (aside from the swimming trunks shot) there is a single image of your character in their "down time" the chance to see what some one might look like when they think they are alone, or around trusted individuals (if applicable.) helps humanize a character (for me.) Adding the job level to the classes under "adventurer" I don't think is... necessary? I'm not sure it provides character information thats very useful, if perhaps you meant to show which one he IC had more talent with you could put a "prefers the Lance" or some such, but people (as a note) have a variety of ways of viewing in game stats, (Be it the Lodestone, in game "search info", the lodestone phone app ect.) Thats about it... Side question, did you intend to thumbnail your pictures with Gallery? or had you wanted to make it give a zoomable in page view that could be clicked through. All and all I think it fine, hope I don't offend and provide at least something to think on. Tah tah for now! :cactuar:
  19. The OS&R, while shy of 10mil, will be pushing for a Medium and driving towards it with gusto' :bomb:
  20. Aha! Welcome to the RPC Asgarn! Chances are you've likely seen this information around, but I like to pop it in anyways for the sake of making sure everyone's on the same page. To start, here is a public introduction to the RPC, it also provides a bit of information on each of the primary resources, no doubt you've likely heard of this from your Roegadyn friends in game before. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Perhaps you want a bit of a refreshed on RP in general? or just the specifics unique to FFXIV? Eva has written an excellent RP handbook that can be found at: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 It covers a great deal of information, providing example of most kinds of roleplay and how people might approach something in different ways. (Such as mounts!) But maybe you'd prefer to find a few more groups in game to poke around the world with. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" Is an old stand by, and OOC linkshell dedicated to getting people together, to talk, meet and everything else involved in building a community and meeting people. You want more people do do content with? Dungeons, Primals and the like? http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is all about group content, be it farming Brayflox for battlemage, to Hardmode Titan, slamming your head against the loot wall is a frequent pass time here. You've also mentioned being in the UK! so, as an addition to the above two, i'd suggest checking out. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3026 "Europa" is a Euro centered OOC linkshell. if you take a look at their posting it (like the others) shows the best people to contact as well as some of ways to utilize the community. I hope none of this feels like a chore to go through, and that you have the chance to meet many interesting people out in the far reaches of Eorzea. While I don't intend to use the gun wielding the class IC, i'm very excited for the chance to use one in the future OOC, and maybe toy around the idea of alchemicaly altering them. Have you considered working on Alchemy as a way to explore the combat medic nature of your character? the questline if very interesting, has a sort of Full Metal Alchemist feel at some points. Though it often feels more like "Chemist" from tactics... POTION TO THE FACE! "oh god the glass it sti-- oooh soothing~" Feel free to flag me down if you see me running about at the wee hours of the day. :cactuar:
  21. Hello Broken, and welcome to the RPC! I used to play on Sarganatas as well! actually Lindblum before the server merger in 1.0... but thats besides the point! good to see you making the hop into the Roleplaying world. Just want to check before I start posting too much info, is your RP alt going to be on Balmung or Gilgamesh? or will it remain on Sarganatas? There are some generic links I can start with. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome That is a welcome post from the RPC as a whole to anyone new to the community, it talks about the site in and of itself, as well as describing a few of the resources here at your disposal. Hopefully you'll be able to use them to meet some interesting people. Since you seem to imply being new to RP on a general level this guide by Eva should be of particular use: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 On top of discussing a few areas unique to FFXIV roleplay, providing examples for her points, there is also a great deal of general information that can be used to make a foundation of Roleplay knowledge for nearly any medium. (I've even nudged it in the way of a few of my new DnD members.) Well, with that out of the way i'll wait a moment before linking communities, knowing which server you're on if fairly important to that... .. .... :tonberry: Bah who knows, if you roll an alt on either Balmung or Gilgamesh, consider these groups as open, when ever you'd like to apply. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" of Balmung is an OOC LS dedicated to getting roleplayers together of all stripes, talking, planning, admiring the way the subligar looks on that Ele' fellow at the docks near Limsa... or maybe thats just me. Or maybe you just want to a group and roll around with people against monsters! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is a PVE oriented linkshell that provides a place to advertise for groups of pretty much any nature so long as its about killing stuff. Duties, Dungeons, Trials... from Sastacha to the detested Aurum Vale. Or maybe you want to check out Gilgamesh! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 The "Coalition" OOC hub is a Gilgamesh equivilent of Intermission, plenty of people, plenty of chatter. Get to know whos who, where they might be, what they're up to and all the good stuff. I hope the helps you feel a bit more confident going out into the world. Please remember that the RPC is by roleplayers, for roleplayers. If you have questions, comments, concerns, voice them. I and many others will do what we can. Hope to see you in Eorzea! :cactuar:
  22. Hello Synn, and welcome to the RPC as the others have said. Theres plenty to see here, groups to meet and people to know. Hopefully the holiday season will provide you get get involved with some cheer, both in game and out. I have a bit of information to provide, hopefully set you out into Eorzea with an idea of what you might like to do. If nothing else, rest assured that there are many here that are open to questions of all sorts so please don't hesitate to ask. First off! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This welcome post should provide you with a bit of information about the RPC itself as well as some of the features of the site that could come in handy. There's more besides, though much of it is on the forums themselves, such as the Mumble, and the Skype shared channels. If you'd like to take some time to get to know more about Roleplaying as a whole, and FFXIV Roleplay in Particular, Eva has written an extensive handbook featured: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Not exactly a "light read" I think it provides (if you have the time.) a very solid foundation of information to expand off of. OF note, the sections on Teleportaion and "the echo" are of particular importance. But perhaps you'd like to jump right in and get to know the people of Balmung. While you're always able to message people here, or pop into the world and flag some one down, there are also a few linkshells dedicated to getting people together Out of Character in the hopes of building the community. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" Is a general OOC group that serves to facilitate getting to know the people behind the character in a conversational manner, just chat about what you might see, or how the days going, where people might be, what they might be up to ect. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is for PVE content, Dungeons, Duties, Trials and much else, if its group based, chances are some ones making a group for it, or is willing to join your own. I really like the chance to work with people on Balmung before having to pull from other servers via the duty finder, I think it promotes working through the rough parts and explaining things instead of just dropping group at the first sign of trouble. Phew! with all that aside, the character concept sounds interesting, and its good to see you have some experience in previous MMOs! while I never had the chance to try Aion, i've heard some good things. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns, i'll do my best to address them. In the meantime, best of luck out in Eorzea! :cactuar:
  23. Its okay, I imagine the delay is response is due to a mixture of the time (I'm at work at the moment.), the day (wooo monday.), and the hesitance to critique personal work on an open venue. Which in turn opens up a lot of people to criticism themselves (i'm not saying it will happen, just common enough on the internet at large, watch one person correct another grammer and it all turns into a massive nit-picking competition.) I'll make a point of reading over it at lunch and saying what I might here, and PMing you the rest if its required. Cheers! :cactuar:
  24. Ah, Sankyuu, And what if I don't want to bring pants? Their aignt no party like a no pants party cause a no pants party don't stop!
