    :)

Welcome to the RPC Rogoa, Good to see plenty of introductions already. I was a bit swamped yesterday so my apologies for not providing a few resources earlier, hopefully you'll still find some use in them! While you mentioned moving from Gilgamesh to Balmung i'll make a point of including a few things about both, who knows! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Is a good starting point, a generic welcome post that covers a lot of the fundamentals here at the RPC, tools, history ect. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 This is a Roleplay handbook written by Eva that covers a franks staggering array of topics. While it won't really help you "dive right in" I think it does aid in getting a firm grasp of some ideas that make FFXIV roleplay a bit different, as well as helping to identify the different kinds of roleplay and players you'll find out there. But you want dive in and boy howdy do I have some dive in ready groups. As a note, I don't like to plug IC communities unless a specific criteria is presented (eg. I LIEK PIRATES.) so instead i'll offer up some OOC ones that will hopefully help you integrate and find a nice niche for yourself out there in the wide world. I just find their is such a variety to character and player desire in both the applicant and the organization that its best to steer clear of assuming. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is and OOC chatter hub. and what I mean by that as its an excellent place to get to know the people of Balmung even before you get to know their characters. Scattered across Eorzea, this is a great place to find where exactly people are, what exactly they are doing and if they might be open to a little company. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is a PVE grouping group, or to be more specific, a lot of people, myself included have a desire to place grouping server first, to promote getting to know each other through parties progressing through content just as much as talking and roleplaying. This also, with time, helps cut down on the "this is hard i'm leaving" after a single death. Speed runs are fine (Twelve I enjoy them.) but content can be rough, and its disheartening to feel as though a single slip causes everything to shatter. I'M LOOKING AT YOU AURUM VALE!!! In case Gilgamesh continues to pique your interest they have a linkshell not unlike "Intermission" named "Coalition" that you can find: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 Finally a small plug for an event occurring this weekend, public and open to all, http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=event&eid=55 The Coffer and Coffin event is all about getting people together, new, old, grumpy, and genki. No obligation, no fee, just pop your head in if you like or are in the area. Wow.. with all that aside I think i've finally woken up! Goood morning~ please keep in mind that (as the deluge of welcome posts have stated) the RPC is open to people and filled with open people. Ask some questions, come chat on the forums, maybe send a tell or two in game to people who interest you. Best of luck in Eorzea! I need more tea.. :cactuar:
  2. ITS SO MUCH FUN DOOOOO IIIIIIITTTTT I have a custom ship mod (http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/build-your-own-ship-sandbox-ship.41890/ ) so i can make my ship what ever I want. As a Floran I now hurtle through space on the back of a gigantic Cthulu esque mass of undulating eye stalks, dirt and lazers. Stopping only long enough to pillage a world for more eldritch artifacts (read: platinum) before launching off into the void.
  3. I agree with your break down of why he is likely duskwight, but I have to say i'm kind of glad at how well we stay out of the spot light. I'll admit I think it really plays well into the Lore. Though many of my favorite Duskwight NPCs have been removed in 2.0.. Perhaps as more about Gelmorra comes to light we'll get to see more either way!
  4. Eh HM Titans Darklight-able but I understand, let me know if you need a BLM, I think the Ultima battle, and rampant speculation abound, will likely have even stronger tie ins to the Primals. I'm guessing likely a combination of signature moves, and as he "De-aspects" as the different ones clear perhaps he begins using more and more custom Allagan abilities. Admittedly the details were pretty sparse :<

  6. Oh ho~ robotty plug people, I found this weird advanced glitch science facility, they kept chasing me away calling me a "heretic" so I just dug around and up into the facility stealing their science robes, cabinets and lights. but its all gone now... /weep FYI all coordinates that you find, if you post them here, can be entered client side, so if you find something interesting feel free to share, it'll spawn the same world since the coordinates are just an elaborate "Seed"
  7. I agree that it will be interesting to see what they do to Ifirit, if you look at the small text he has the highest "minimum item level" requirement at 70, so I think he'll be considered the "last" extreme for this bunch. Maybe they'll make the duration between the separation and cross arena charge shorter giving less time to move. Also from the video of 2.1 the infrnal nails looked much larger, and further spread out, so unlikely one BLM/SUM LB will be able to catch them all. Add to that maybe a continues ground rupture? (the one leaving cracks before they burst.) and maybe faster fire circles into plumes? I'm excited

    Hello

Hello Rand, and welcome to the RPC, Pirate eh? there are a few groups out there who might suit your tastes, as Shizu said The Hungry Wolf, there is also the "Black Lotus Cartel." Maybe take a look at the forums and linkshell hall for a few more.. In the mean time! I have a few links to share with you. Ordinarily they are scattered around the site, but I think it can help to know there are a few key ones in a sea of information to latch on to when you start. Anyways! Here is a link to the offical RPC welcome post, you may have already clicked on it on the front page, it outlines the history of the RPC as well as covers a few of the main tools here. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Since this is your first MMO I highly recommend taking a look at this RP Handbook put together by Eva, A bit daunting at first glance, it is broken down into sections that I think should make it a bit easier to get through. Many of the ideas put forward should serve to create a solid foundation for your experiences here and down the road. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 We have a couple groups here that serve to help people get together listed under the linkshell hall. Two notable ones are "Intermission" http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 An OOC linkshell hub for roleplayers of all types, just helping to get people talking and all that jazz. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is all about grouping up to tackle content, from Satascha, to Titan, if its group based, chances are you'll find people here willing to tag along. Hopefully that helps you get a better idea of who you might run into out in the wide world. Perhaps most importantly is knowing that the RPC was started by roleplayers, for roleplayers, you are free to ask questions, make comments, raise concerns and everything in between, both here in the forums or shoot some one a PM! Best of luck in Eorzea, and take care out there. :cactuar:
  9. Greetings and welcome to the RPC Alan, I've got a few links that I hope will help you in clarifying a few things about the RPC, the difference between linkshells/FCs and maybe give you some things to read when you have a moment to yourself. As a note! The RPC is open to all sorts of discussion, questions, concerns, comments and much else, so don't hesitate to step forward and say something. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome this welcome post outlines a few of the tools here, the wiki, lantern, linkshell hall ect. As well as describe the RPC in and of itself a bit. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Is an RPC Handbook by Eva, while you likely already have a firm grasp of the basics, I think the write up addresses a few of the key things that apply particularly to FFXIV, as well as give anyone who reads it another perspective on a mechanic they might be trying to explain in character. As Siha said, linkshells are more specialized chat channels focusing on getting people with similar ideas an interests together where as Free Companies (Often shortened to FC's) are a classic "guild" with a shared storage, ranking system, perks ect. Here are a few examples, as well as recommendations that might help you get to know people. Linkshells: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is an OOC linkshell dedicated to getting roleplayers together from every avenue of life, boasting a large foundation there are few better places to get to know where people are, what they might be up to and all that jazz. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is dedicated to PVE content, the dungeons, dutys and trials of Eorzea. If its group content chances are you can find people here to join you. This group emphasizes getting people on Balmung first, building a community and strengthening OOC bonds through fighting through content, A good place even for the casual dungeoneer. Now I don't often like to recommend FC's unless some one asks for a particular type, because communities, and desires are nuanced, but for the sake of providing an example, here is the Lodestone entry and Linkshell hall entry for "The Harbingers of Dawn" A fairly large group. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5283 http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/freecompany/9236179148295113215/ phew that was a lot to cover.. if you're still feeling up to it and I haven't completely scared you off there is also an event occurring on the coming weekend open to everyone where you can just chatter and get to know people. No formality or association with any particular group. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=event&eid=55 Anyways, Best of luck in Eorzea! and feel free to flag me down if you see me running abouts, damn moogles always steal the candy I make. :cactuar:
  10. Floran... person-thing reporting! I found this glitch temple/science facility on one of those eye-stalk planets that had a whole bunch of science stuff in it! unfortunately the patch today reset everything, so time for a new adventure!
  11. Something a lot of people will do is link to the separate lode stone/wiki profiles in their signature, allowing one account to be tied to them all. Just makes it a bit easier to keep note of who's who that way and cut down on superfluous user accounts. Just a thought!
  12. So excited to fight the Good King again, the fluffy bugger better drop my staff this time! Thanks for cross posting it all here Kannadi!

    Hi.

Always happy to help, there are a lot of people at the RPC who will have information to provide so feel free to ask questions when the time comes, in an existing thread, or start your own. Best of luck with Finals, I do not miss them T_T
  14. I'll second Aysuns statement, and follow up with a "Here's a thread on Garleans, you might find some one there that interests you to follow up with in regards to forming a rivalry" http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=4873 Hope that helps!

    Hi.

Greetings and welcome to the RPC Tah, As a note, long time WoW player here as well, though I was mostly on Steamwheedle Cartell, with alts scattered across Twisting Nether and WRA. I'll admit it seems like the majority of WoW roleplayers were from moonguard, then again it was like the Mal'ganis of Roleplay. (Though my PVE was on Doomhammer before Jugg left, then I went to Deathwing to play with Enigma, but I digress.) If you don't mind a bit of a read, i've got some links i'd like to share that will hopefully give you something to peruse on your downtime. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome That is a welcome post for the whole of the RPC, focused on giving you a bit of information both about the site as a whole, and about some of the resources we have here for everyone to use. (The Lantern being a particular favorite of mine.) You have a fairly comprehensive experience with roleplay, so you might just want to skim through this next one, how ever there are a few things that are FFXIV specific that you might find informative. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Written by the illustrious Eva, this Roleplay handbook should help set you on your path. Since you're on Gilgamesh, you might want to take a look at! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 The "Coalition" is an OOC Hub linkshell for roleplayers across that server, allowing you to get to know whos about, where they might be and if you can drop in for some shenanigans.. love that word.. shenanigans. For a lore resource theres always: http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Main_Page along with the wiki for the RPC which is user maintained. Hope that helps set you on your way with a bit better of an idea of whats out there. Feel free to drop into the forums and ask some questions, send a PM or two if you have a concern. A pretty helpful group of people! Best of luck in Eorzea :chocobo: EDIT: Also.. PRAISE THE SUN!
  16. Seconded o/ Pffptltplfpflpt What! Of course i'm going to back Denn She could snap me like a twig >_>
  17. Always happy to provide information, you'll find many more here at the RPC to lend a helping hand, though chances are they're already in game haha. Feel free to flag me down if you see me running about Eorzea and i'll do my best to introduce you to a few groups once I get an idea of what you're looking for. Tah-tah for now!
  18. Hello and welcome to the RPC Salvi! Thats a shame that you don't have anyone to join up with from day one here... but have no fear there are plenty lurking around, likely at this very moment! I'm going to start off with a few links that should help familiarize you with the RPC and some of the groups held here. As a note the RPC supports both Balmung and Gilgamesh as RP servers, Balmung being the results of a server merge in 1.0 with Besaid, and Gilgamesh being the result of a vote before the release of "A Realm Reborn." but onto the information! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome Here is a generic welcome post that outlines a bit of info about the RPC as a whole as well as a few key resources (the wiki, lantern and calendar as a note.) A good thing to start you off, fairly short. If you don't mind a bit of a longer read, this RP handbook by Eva is marvelous, touching on nearly every topic. Though quite lengthy I find there are few better foundations for your roleplaying experience. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 (As a note you can use the index hidden in the spoiler bar to skip ahead of some areas if you feel confident about certain aspects.) But onto the communities! maybe you just want to go out and meet some people. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 The "Coalition" is a Gilgamesh based OOC hub for roleplayers of all stripes, get to know where, when and while people are in areas, get to know the people behind the characters, maybe share a few ideas. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" Is the Balmung OOC RP hub, open to all and home to a great many, a center of communication for a great number of people! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is a Balmung (duh!) based Linkshell centered on PVE, if you have a dungeon to do, there are people here who will do it with you! from Sastacha to Garuda, though be warned, Aurum Vale is a pit of despair! Hrm, that aside, not to shamelessly promote too much, but there is an event on the coming Saturday centered around getting people together new and old on Balmung: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=event&eid=55 No requirements to attend, you can just drop in poke around then plod off if you like, or pull up a chair and grab a drink. Phew! that was a lot, hopefully didn't scare you off in the mean time... I think you'll have the chance to meet a lot of interesting people on both servers. Feel free to ask any questions you might have about the game or the community, maybe make a post on the forums about something you're interested in, take it all in. Best of luck in Eorzea and watch out for the moogles, they like to snatch trinkets. :cactuar:

    Greetings

Hello Quinn and welcome to the RPC as Rinh and Lutra have said. I notice you already posted to the "Intermission" linkshell, so i'll presume you've already poked around and have a good idea of whats out there. If I could make a few recommendations, have you poked around the wiki? there are a few templates provided by the snarky but entertaining Deirdre that you can use to post your own character profile. Also! if you'd like the chance to get to see some people, no obligation of course, there is an even occurring on the coming Saturday. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=event&eid=55 A bit of a self promotion, but we hope to see a great deal of people and while there is no required fee, clothes, presence or actions, I think it a great chance to see just how many people are out there, maybe flag down a friend, chat for a while. Hope to see you in Eorzea, and best of luck out there! :cactuar:
  20. The approaching Saturday on the 14th, we had a bit of a schedule swap, sorry for any confusion! And while it certainly dies down past 12EST, i'll still be there so have no fear for company!
  21. Because i've already been asked a few questions about the event in-game, I thought i'd post a few of the common ones here. This doesn't mean I don't mind answering them in game of course, but I think an F.A.Q. should still be helpful. Technically? when no one else is there. Practically? the last few have run pretty late, 4-5 hours. Nope, as i'll cover below, this is an "open" event, your only obligation is to enjoy it, the duration and participation of your character is completely up to you, many stay for half an hour, some for longer. Nope! no attire is "required" you'll IC likely be reprimanded for bringing in a weapon though. Nope, IC there is no fee, in fact food and drink are provided by the house on that evening, and while we might "stop the grog" at a certain level of rowdiness, the only gil that need change hands is tipping the rather over worked servers and bar keep. Who knows, the tavern is along a main road between camp Black Brush and Ul'dah, this road can lead up to the west towards vesper bay and Limsa beyond, or to the East, up through to the Shroud. Northwards is Mor Dhona, it was chosen in part due to its place along the "life lines" of trade. The event has no affiliation with any particular organization, people i'm not particularly fond of IC are still invited due to the events nature as a time to place those things aside. the only OOC request is that you come prepared to see a flood of chat, I highly recommend increasing the size of your chat window during this which leads me to... I'll be keeping in /say and /em, I understand that for the sake of organization /party is helpful, and far be it from me to say what people can and can't do. But please make an effort to acknowledge and glance at /say from time to time. A lot of cross tavern swearing, gesturing and eyebrow waggling will be missed otherwise. THEN ASK DON'T JUST TRAIL OFF AN AUUUGH /tableflip Then we need to speak in character, arguably Konner even more so. To bring people together, sounds a bit silly I know, but imagine for a moment being a legacy player who enjoys observing social gatherings you've been playing since the beta of 1.0, you keep to yourself most of the time, but like watching and listening to other people (ssshhhh I know that sounds creepy, i'm Duskwight its a thing). Looking around and noticing that a good portion of new players are still trying to meet people and get their legs under them. A lot of established people are working in their groups on narratives that while highly enjoyable have a certain isolation about them. Why not offer an opportunity for the new to meet old? to give the old an opportunity "let their hair down" as it were, and to give the new the chance to see that they are just as much a part of this world as the rest of us. Or perhaps you meant in character. its a secret! well more of a "cover" but thats information you'll have to pry it from my cold, dead, abnormally long fingers. I think those were the major ones... I hope to see anyone who is interested at least peak their heads in to say Hello! :cactuar:
  22. Greetings Cemi! welcome to the RPC, You don't have to think of much out of the gate, its fun to take it slow sometimes. I have a vauge recollection of Neopets, I confess (perhaps i'm thinking of the wrong game) that though I was young, there was a way to exploit a fairly basic bit of code in the game involving a wishing well, there you could actually "donate" more than you did and get some pretty stellar rewards out of it... but that was nearly an age ago. If you don't mind a bit of a read i've got some links i'd like to share that I think might help see you on your way with a bit of a better understanding of what the RPC can offer and the groups you might meet in game. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This welcome post describes the RPC itself as well as some of the resources available to people, the wiki, the lantern along side a few others. Hopefully you'll make use of one or two of them, the forums as well are an excellent place to vet out ideas or discuss an idea you're considering. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Is a general RP handbook created by Eva. While you are likely already familiar with many of the concepts within, I think she does an excellent job in discussing why and how they apply in the world of FFXIV. A bit lengthy I suggest skimming until you find key areas you would like to be more familiar with, then on a day when you have the chance reading the whole, it is very informative and provides an excellent foundation of knowledge to expand off of! But onto the communities! if you're looking to get your feet wet, get to know the people of Balmung, here are few of the "choice" groups. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" is an OOC hub for Roleplayers of all stripes, you can find out where people are, what they might be up to, where they're going and if they mind some one tagging along! with three linkpearls to its name there will be no shortage of people to meet, hardly a better place to meet the people of Eorzea. You did how ever mention that you are in Britian, and though a night owl, I still think this linkshell is worth looking in to. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3026 "Europa" much like Intermission is an OOC hub, though with a focus on European Roleplayers. Hopefully you might meet more like yourself there! As well as a free company or two that piques your interest. (The Travelers guild is very welcoming.) But perhaps you're still working on your characters quests, and you've realized that using "the duty finder" to get through some of the higher level dungeons is both frustrating and more offensive words.. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs finest" is a PVE linkshell dedicated to grouping people on Balmung first before pulling in through the Duty finder. Need to farm Brayflox for Battlemage gear? Titan for the story? Ampadour Keep for some times? If you don't find a full group here, there should at least be one or two people to help provide a good base that won't just jump ship at the first stutter! Hopefully I haven't made you flee into the night yet >_> almost done! http://xivwiki.com/Main_Page http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Main_Page The two above links are wikis hosted outside of the RPC, that I use to cross reference against our own. Filled with Lore, hints on quests, and lots of other potentially useful information they might be worth book marking, or what have you. Phew! well thats about it for now... please rememeber that the RPC is by roleplayers for roleplayers, so if you have any questions, comments, or concerns you are more than welcome to voice them. Chances are some one will come along to provide their own perspective. Take care out in Eorzea! :cactuar:
  23. Greetings and welcome to the RPC Relexano! I hope you've had the chance to meet a lot of interesting people on Gilgamesh so far, while its not my main server, I do like to pop in from time to time on an alt and see how things are going or putz around on my Lalafell, because lalas are just awesome. I hope you don't mind if I provide you with some links around the site and elsewhere that I think you might find informative. the first two are all about the RPC and Roleplaying, Then a linkshell you might like, and then a few lore sites. So feel free to skip what you feel you might already know. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome That is just a general welcome post to the RPC that outlines the major resources at hand, the wiki, lantern and the directories for linkshells. It also talk a bit about the RPC itself, what it is, where it came from, that kind of thing. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 This is a Roleplay handbook put together by our own illustrious Eva, while you may already be familiar with many of the concepts that are outlined, I find the attention to detail, cross referencing, and emphasis on how things apply in FFXIV in particular to be good base of knowledge. Quite lengthy, the index at the top should allow you to focus in on any areas you'd like to get a second opinion on. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 This Linkshell is an OOC hub for roleplayers on Gilgamesh, allowing you to get to know the people out in the world, perhaps find where they are, what they are up to, that sort of things. Also handy for identifying roleplayers themselves, they might not look it but many just go about their business until they let their "hair down" as it were. ASs far as Lore resources in and of themselves, my favorites (aside from the wiki hosted here at the RPC and the forums) would be: http://xivwiki.com/Main_Page http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Main_Page I have two just because I like to cross check information, although they're both fairly accurate... well, that about covers it! I hope that didn't bog you down, you don't have to read everything at once of course, but something to reference back to is handy I find. Feel free to ask any questions you might have, voice any concerns. Best of luck in Eorzea! :cactuar:
  24. I'm really hoping that they have a minimum bid system, and perhaps a "buyout" option for a high price to stop just this... some arse running about adding one gil to land spots all wheel of fortune style would be a pain. That and maybe a way to "watch" a property, an ingame notification like the mail to update you when some one bids on a plot that you've been looking for? Hrm.. Also (since I was told I could go ahead and post on behalf of the group): FC Name: The OS&R Location: The Lavender Beds (I wanted the Goblet, Q_Q) Idealy a large plot, a lot has been saved. Active Periods: 6pm EST - to Late, some "day time" players Desired Purchase Date/Time: ASAP, have the day of patch booked off Looking for: No one in particular, a merchant group would be nice.
