  1. Same here! This seems like the best way for me to connect to the RP community in-game. Is there still room? Hello Ayric & Qin, If you are unable to get an invite, feel free to add me on Skype (Quarimar) and i'll throw you an invite to the RPC Skype channel, many prominent members are there who should be able to sort out an invite, and if nothing else its another avenue of communication. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any additional questions,
  2. As soon as my Darth Traya headpiece is complete (the leather is presently drying), I'll be active in the Empire City Garrison; I'm with Echo Base (NY area, for those going 'what the HECK are these people saying?'). Oh yes. Tons of questions. But I'll get to 'em soon enough! EDIT: Also, thank you, Desmond. Vaders fist* /facepalm. Traya head piece? with the wig or just the head/hair wrap in black? Either way, nice work.
  3. Hello Loptr, Lord Vaders First, 501st trooper, Badlands division reporting, rebel scum. Jokes aside, I would recommend popping onto the "Linkshells" list as some are also Free Companies. The (2nd) Intermission Linkshell would also be a good idea to join (the primary one is full iirc) its a place OOC to chat and plan. (The Skype channel as well, you can throw me an friend request at "Quarimar" and i'll add you if you like.) While I do expand on some personal traits I like to think that I add and take away enough to create a unique experience for the people who get to know my character. Best of luck in Eorzea, and please feel free to ask all manner of questions that might occur. Twelve know I had plenty.
  4. Hello Naih'ir, Just as a small note, while the thread is dead, you should still be able to find some users at. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=2197 Up to you if you'd like to necro the thread or not. Excited to see X & Y. I'm a water type starter usually but Im going to use the release day bonus/ the second starter to get one of each type, so I went with Grass this time.
  5. Greeting Caen, Good to hear that you've already been around the site for a while. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have in reserve. Hope to see you around Eorzea. Best of luck out there!
  6. Ingress is an excellent Augmented reality game But it seems you have a misconception, we Enlightened seek to enhance humanity as they desire, offering tools to the people to improve themselves. The Resistance simply don't understand that we aren't forcing them to conform to our standards, we just don't want them in the way of our own goals. Perhaps you're just a little low on XM, if you'd like to return after you've charged up near a portal or two we could continue to discuss the advantages of utilizing technology that will exist regardless of our desire to have it. Propaganda spouting aside, love the game, makes the walks around work and jogging all the more interesting. Also, be careful if you have a low data plan, this uses fairly regular pull downs and near constant GPS.
  7. And on that note the Barbers chair, while we don't know much about it at the moment. Will supposedly allow alterations to hair style, hair colour, make up, markings and details (earrings etc.) At will for a small fee I imagine. Either way, I agree with and enjoy the feeling of having your character look "just so" when you start.

    Yo yo!

Welcome! Please feel free to ask any questions regarding the community and the game itself, i'll do my best to answer. Hope you've had the chance to explore and check out the features. Drop a line in game if you need a hand.
  9. /em claps his hands excitedly. Things are looking to turn out well.
  10. Welcome, Please take your time and poke around the site to become comfortable with the features, Ask any questions, make a comment or two, jump into a discussion, its a big mess of people, but an inviting one. I as well spent quite some time tweaking my character at the start. but as a note, you receive a Fantasia item upon purchasing a one months subscription (it lets you reset your character customization. but not the name.) As well as they've (the devs) mentioned a barbers chair in the upcoming 2.1 patch which will allow some basic changes. So don't feel that you have to chisel this first attempt from marble with narry a flaw. Hope to see you in Eorzea before too long.
  11. /salute To echo Alothia, I recommend taking some time to become familiar with the environment. A home away from home as it were. Please feel free to ask all manner of questions, Hope to see you in Eorzea before too long!
  12. Welcome to the RPC, Please take some time to poke about the forums, the Linkshell listings, the wiki and get a feel for everything. Ask some questions, raise some concerns! indulge in some general shenaniganry. Hope to see you in Eorzea, feel free to drop a line if you need anything.
  13. Hello Kaoru, This may seem a bit obvious, but I find simply talking about whats important to your character, much like in the real world, can bring up differences in how priorities are handled. Perhaps an example is in order, fortunately I have a bit of experience playing the devils advocate. Discussion formed around the "Garlean" menace at the Coffer & Coffin between myself and a few people, we picked apart and refuted what we each felt was the key point of contention when standing up against them. Their expansionism, The people themselves, the Religious forms. This ended up including a rather heated discussion, while remaining mostly civil. If politics aren't your cup of tea you could also speak about institutions or third parties known to both people. Discussing a mutual acquaintance can lead to the arguing over the disassociation between idea and reality. Whenever I want to add a touch of ideological tension (and while this is of course subjective to the setting.) I often bring up Racial or Regional traits. Commenting on the barbarism of the tribal cat-folk, the lack of civilization among the common Limsan is often enough to get people to be a little more outspoken. That I suppose is the crux of it for me, I enjoy both the more rigid formal tones and interactions as well as occasionally pushing buttons to make people shed the veneer of carefully crafted neutrality and speak on their opinions unburdened. Hope that helps, or at least provides a little perspective on how I approach it. I'd love to discuss it more if you have the time and some major points you would like to address. Thanks.
  14. Hello Taetim, A bit of a loaded question "Best RP Population" I would use the standard PR of "there isn't a better one, they're just different." The response I usually go with? If you're a progression oriented person who focuses on a clean slate and wants to be "on an even level" with everyone, I would recommend Gilgamesh (Although that argument becomes less and less valid as time goes on.) Otherwise I would role Balmung, which has the advantage of some more established communities as well as new ones. (Such as the Coffer and Coffin event happening on the 19th for the second time.) To be honest, I haven't noticed much of a difference outside of the auction house and i've been able to reach cap on both servers. I'll say that Balmung appears in major areas more practiced in their ignoring of griefers, mostly by using party chat or casually IC relocating. Gilgamesh of course presents the same fortitude, many may be new to FFXIV, they are often experienced in MMORP outside FFXIV none the less. Admittedly I would add that the Reddit community on Gilgamesh seems to make the trolls a bit more stalwart, though the endgame more active. Ah well, Hope I didn't make too much of a mess of it. Please feel free to ask any follow up questions or for clarification, Either way best of luck and I hope to see you in Eorzea.
  15. Welcome to the RPC, Please feel free to ask any questions you have, browse the wiki, message people and all the fun stuff to make yourself feel a little more comfortable. While i'm not online as often as some, know that you can drop me a message if you're curious about anything but don't want to voice it out in the public forums. (Though I highly recommend them both as a source of knowledge and a way to meet people.) Hope to see you in Eorzea soon, and best of luck until then.
  16. Well done Teveriel. Quarimar is more of a "stick it in a jar and study it until it dies" type, but a little wall building would probably do him good. ...spent to long being idle among the flower-smellers of Gridania.
  17. Feel free to message me in game or on the RPC, i'll be on tonight working through some minor commissions but always look forward to meeting other dashing, daring and dualistic Duskwight desert dwellers (yay alliteration!). If you don't catch me in the interim, I'll be attending the Coffer and Coffin event on the 19th. Best of luck in Eorzea /salute.
  18. Looking out over the Gloom Hyur and Miqo'te companions are unimpressed with my communication mid event. SHINE GET!
  19. Though I myself have yet to join, My understanding is that you can just drop one of them an in game tell. As a side note, some one has to be on your friends list to be mailed. hope that helps~
  20. Hello KC and welcome to the show! Feel free to ask questions, make comments, join then the shennaniganz and throw together a wiki page for all to stare at in wonder. Though you'll be on a different server I hope to see you in Eorzea, and best of luck finding a home to call your own. Side note do you happen to play ArmA? or other Steam games? there's a small-ish group for RPC members there under the name: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/HydaelynRolePlayers
  21. Space Opera AND Call of Cthulhu?! (Also have you tried Pathfinder? I was kind of hesitant of moving from 3.5, but i'm starting to like it...) I know you're going to a different servers but can we be best friends? We can start as "Beard buddies" (its like best buddies but with facial hair and high fives.) and work our way up, I can be flexible. On a slightly less serious note, welcome to the RPC, please feel free to peruse the Wiki and ask all manner of vague, and answerable only with opinion questions you have. For example! I think Lemon Meringue is the best pie. Now make a SAN roll and get in here!
  22. A great many thanks to the staff of the event who helped make it such a smashing (and still running event.) Konner Kinkaid U'narhi Zhiku Emadra Venros D'ren Tia
  23. Hiya Lament, I use all the links you posted as well as http://xivwiki.com/Main_Page This site is also affiliated with http://xivdb.com/ (The links on the top bar of the first link.) I like Gamer Escape for most of the articles on older things, but i've run into some out of date or speculation information. XIVwiki is fairly heavily moderated but still very much a work in progress. its connection with the XIVDB however makes me think it will be a little more measured and formulaic in its data presentation and maintenance. I'm a bit anal though so I often cross reference and have our own Wiki open at the same time making sure everything matches, and if not to at least learn about the other view points.
  24. If he's an established presence (what i'm assuming for word of mouth) then I would imagine that most people who approach either have an idea of what the title entails or are at least looking for something more potent. Then i'd presume they'd be cautious instead of downright afraid. Acknowledging the danger while still desiring to make use of it (Ala' large camp fire cooking). The closest Parallel I can imagine for my own character is that he has a small reputation as a Goldsmith, and people are disbelieving of his heritage until he meets them face to face. Hmm, would you (for mercenary work) ever be asked to provide an "example" of your skills? I think that would lead people to genuine fear, the unknowing in particular, where as it would still cause a small amount of cautious respect in people even expecting it. (The parallel I imagine being stunt drivers, seeing them do something so technical when you don't know much about it is terrifying, and when you understand a little its still a 'wow he's crazy' but more subdued.) /shrug, just my way of looking at it.
  25. Hello, I would classify responses based on the level of knowledge the person had and your specific wording. I imagine it going down in a few different ways. I'd treat it like speaking about LOTR. With some one who has very little historical or Arcane knowledge I think they'd assume you're a loony. and dangerous particularly if you proved your aptitude. Most likely people who don't live in cities, village folk who would be unable to distinguish between varying types of magic. (Like Atton says in Knights of the Old Republic "they don't see Sith and Jedi, just people with too much power running around killing each other.") Some one with Historical but no Thaumaturgical/Magical background would likely dismiss it as legend. perhaps acknowledging you as a Thaumaturge of Nald'Thal without knowing of the separation. I've encountered both incredulity and nervousness when expressing that Quarimar has gone beyond the Thaumatuge lessons of the Ossuary. But they hardly think I am a "Black mage" of the same type as legend, more an over-eager scholar who has dug up some old magic through tomes. Again it would depend on how you represented or provided proof, i'm fairly droll in that I offer writings and my garb. Not really the type to go showing away like Guy Fawkes night. Then you'd have people with Thaumaturgical backgrounds who (like the Lalafellan teachers within the Ossuary) would be able to appreciate and acknowledge the difference in abilities. Again personality dependent but i'd be extremely nervous, like I am in character with White mages, when I know a power can lay the land destitute. I always try to be careful when dealing with its practitioners. It would likely see a splitting response, with people being both cautious/interested or treating it as Taboo, a mistake that should not be repeated (at least in scholarly groups.). As for the perspective of a mercenary? I'd be cautious dealing with any self styled "Black Mage" the Ossuary Thaumaturges are an esoteric lot in and of themselves let alone something out of legend. Some one might even be more prejudice if they had interaction with possessed individuals or voidsent with similar abilities (Such as the youngest Lalafellan brother during the Thaumaturge quest line.) Hope thats along the lines of what you were looking for, we could talk more about it if you like, I'm not sure how you go about your day so I don't know along the lines that clients would be approached, Ah well, Hope to see you in Eorzea. Quick Edit: Sorry about the terrible spelling mobile device isn't proofreading for me and English isn't my best.
