  1. Greetings! I as well am glad they avoided the "action MMO" trend that has cropped up, while I don't mind the idea in and of itself, I think there is a lot of refinement of systems required to support what it seems they're just trying to stuff in. (with mixed results) Taking on a non-dps role can certainly be fun but i've not had the "burn out" issue since EQ, so i'm a bit out of touch i'll admit. On the topic of Arcanist it was my understanding that it wouldn't be available until launch, but i'd love to be proven wrong, i'm quite excited for it as well. Elezen are not that common though I think it largely due to a mixture of some what "uncanny" physical attributes and some of the lore not being too appealing for some. The Hyur appear (to me) to have the advantage of a wider set of circumstances to pull from, the somewhat typical "we're everywhere and there's nothing you can do to stop it." but take from that what you will. I think I heard rumblings (in the skype chat) of an EU linkshell for coordination being brain stormed so you'll likely not have much trouble finding others to jump in along with. Just as a note, the non-legacy server for the RPC is Gilagamesh, though i'm sure Midgardsormr will have some interesting events. Hope to see you in Eorzea, please let us know if you have any questions, feel free to peruse the wiki, take a break, have a kit-kat. cheers,
  2. Greetings! Welcome to the RPC, feel free to ask questions, take a cookie, browse the wiki and generally have a good time. Fare thee well, enjoy the trip! Oh and hope to see you in Eorzea.
  3. I'd be willing to participate in a telling once every two months or so. Would the seasons provide the Theme for a given event? most of my works are short stories or bits of poetry so I don't see much problem making them to fit the event. This overall sounds very interesting, was there any area you had in mind for hosting the event? Maybe a wandering event that changes with each season? (Gridania in spring, Limsa in summer, Ul'dah in fall?) Hope to hear more.
  4. Greetings fellow RPCers' A quick summary to anyone unfamiliar, the Oculus Rift is a head mounted 3D display with head tracking planned to be consumer ready for 2014 in the 300 dollar price range. (more info here: http://www.oculusvr.com/ ) the current major applications are passive visual media (A virtual movie theater), Gaming (Unity/Unreal/Source support largely completed) and 3d modeling. While this device is intended primarily for testing at my Job, and is a development model (sporting a less refined profile, and lower resolution.) I've also thought about the leisure implications. I'd like this thread to serve as a consolidation for any "testers" willing to allow others to give the hardware a demo without purchasing themselves. Anyone who would like to have their information hosted alongside mine, please send me a PM in the following format: (my own example below) As/if more people provide information i'll try to break it up by country and region to keep it clean. For now there's just myself! My own information: Country: Canada Region: Alberta City: Edmonton Dates: August 4th, 6-9th, 14-16. September 5-7th, 10-12th. (more later) Communication: PM me for tracking please. Additional: I've already tweaked Minecraft for support, as well as the default Source engine games installed and ready, My own testing experience at a friends with Portal 2 was phenomenal and something i'll be suggesting. We have food, drink, and motion sickness medication ready for the few who need it. Somethings to note, Calibration with a new user will take some time, expect 20-30 minutes of fine tuning before use (swapping lenses if you have glasses in particular). If you have any questions, comments or concerns related to the Oculus Rift, may I direct you to http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus or feel free to post below and i'll do my best to address them.

Raisins: Kept in a belt satchel, must have been a frequent eater, the clasp is almost worn out! A sizable amount, 6 full portions. Tonberry shaped Shortbread cookies: Tucked between this shit and robe, wrapped carefully in a large green leaf, they must have been important. Only two. Wide brim straw hat: This stylish head wear is made from 100% Thanalan plant material woven into a loose fitting cap. It would look more at home on a farmers head. Giantsgalls Staff: An odd pointy weapon, nearly as tall as the dead fellow. Appearing Bone white at the bottom and a rich lavender near the top, one can only imagine where he managed to steal this from. Surely an item of such quality has no place in the hands of a dead man. Journal of Eorzean ruins: Taken the time to study you find small inked in maps with annotations made at various locations, some sections seem to be completely re-written while others are highlighted in different colored inks. Surely with a little time this might lead to something interesting. Phew, fun to think of the right balance between comic and canon.
  7. "Wait, let me put on my hat for better aim" Passes over a box of matches "Be careful with those, I made them from Bomb residue. Or don't, just wait until i'm at a safe distance."

  9. "What would you have me do?"
  10. Your list reminds me of what my DnD characters carry around. For myself. What... is in your character's bag? Outside of the cities he carries a fair-sized pack. In it is A loose assortment of tools (small file, chisel, A knife, bent glass for magnification, chalk, coal, sheaf of paper in a roll, spyglass, 6ilm chord with a knot every ilm). Two waterskins. Dodo-tack, raisins and short-bread cookies. Some dried Tea leaves, a mug, an empty Jar or two for specimens and a rope about 20-feet of Hemp. What do they consider essentials for survival? The spyglass, and raisins are important, he's used to living on little though. What are their keepsakes that push them forward? The sheaf of paper, or specimen jars, when actually containing drawings, writings, objects or critters are nearly invaluable to him. How much room is there for things to collect from the wild? He prefers to take small samples and sketch/record anything too large or fragile to disturb. How much Gil would they carry on their person? A fair amount, a few hundred, used to requiring the purchase of information from locals about out of the way places to go, as well as feeding his Chocobo. If they have a chocobo they would haul...? When bringing his Chocobo along he often attaches a saddle bag to one side and a few cages/bags to the other, in the saddle he'll store a tarp to throw over wherever they choose to settle if it rains, some extra food, water and some extra specimen jars. The bags and cages are for live samples or items for trade. What kind of things would they leave behind? He prefers to leave things alone, only taking "discard" or threatened objects that won't last in the wild
  11. Welcome, Wanted to say its nice to see another UO/Gaia survivor around. (I was on a Great Lakes shard as part of the Grey Company.) I hope you've had the chance to meet some interesting people already. Just as a note, (if no ones pointed it out to you already) feel free to peruse the Wiki, I find the "Lore" and "Player Character" sections particularly helpful when introducing people to the world that we'll be taking a part of. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Category:History I'll be on Balmung myself, but best of luck out in Eorzea none-the-less. PS. I have fond memories of Snaxxramas 2.0... A retread yes, but still fun.
  12. Potential Class Break down Of course as the Author notes he places emphasis on class diversity based on role and pulls from pretty much every FF installment (with particular focus on Tactics, Tactics Advance and Advance 2 as you can see in cases such as "White Monk", "Sage" and "Juggler".) Take from it what you will, I consider it interesting if unlikely brain food.
  13. I assure you I don't presume anyone's experience with MMO's and yes I to understand the balance of the economies, I just feel it prudent to take a moment to address them. As a note, the market competitive on 1.0 servers has kept the prices fairly low for most finished goods and the level of cross over for resources between crafting disciplines retains a demand for reagents. /shrug, it is truly just a matter of opinion, and like you say, they'll all just balance out eventually. (pending server closure or consolidation of course.)
  14. Just as a note, even the non-legacy servers will have people with characters built up from Phase 4 and the pre-order early access. I understand the sentiment, but just a note that new servers will likely have unstable economies (not that thats always a bad thing) as well as rocky server populations. A note on Achivemnts, it was my understanding that most would be re-worked for 2.0 anyways, so even on Legacy servers there will be a rush to get them. I myself have used this to my advantage in the past on EQ and WoW, but gaming the economy is not my thing anymore. I myself will have a Balmung and then one on what ever server my non-RP friends decide to roll on as well. Either way, best of luck in Eorzea Edit: for calrity
  15. Good post! as a note, the Reddit guild on Gilga is strictly PvE (with a bit of PvP depending on the turn out) the "Knights of Karma"? I believe they'll be called. They have expressed (or at least the free company leaders i've had the chance to talk to) that they have no interest in RP (as a collective). As a note they can be kinda trolly, a bit of TEST alliance, a bit of Something awfull, I like spending time with them from time to time.
  16. My issue is - none of what anyone else is saying(moderators included) is what the admin is saying. He's made a clear stance that this is a Balmung centric site, and that anybody that disagrees can leave. No suggestions, no opinions, nothing. Discontent is met with a door and that's not fair. I don't have hopes for the community under that leadership, so I'll be sticking with Gilgamesh despite people leaving the server eventually. I like turtles.
  17. Ah yes, the patented, "you dragged me outside, its cold, and I don't have a jacket" look.
  18. Traditionally it was just Sodomy on a general level, or Bestiality. It's important to note that Anal Sex is/was frowned upon by the Religious institutions of this and that time with either sexes. Really it was a "heathens are backwards". for more information feel free to check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buggery'>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buggery as well as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugger (emphasis on the Etymology, the rest of the article is about more modern usage.) tl;dr the term "bugger" like most things in the English language has changed with time.
  19. Greeting! and welcome, hope to see you in Eorzea soon. feel free to ask questions.
  20. No problem, as an additional note, the effects known as "Astral Fire" and "Umbral Ice" are actually buffs applied to yourself as the result of casting damaging spells. A quick point before going into how they work, its beta so everything subject to change. Astral Fire: the result of casting a Fire Spell (or elemental switching, more on that below). A buff that lasts for 10 seconds (iirc, maybe 12?) makes further damaging spells cost more mana and do more damage. It also stops your in combat mana regen. As a note, the counter Ice spell actually costs less mana while this is up. Umbral Ice: also the result of Ice aligned spells, 10 seconds as well, makes additional spells do less damage, and cost less mana. In combat mana regen is in effect. Fire spell does cost less mana with this effect up. A few things to keep in mind: The casting of a spell outside these two types does not consume or alter the buff (yet, maybe some additional types further down the line ?). If you want to gain the opposite buff you have two options either cast the opposite spell once to remove the buff to return to neutral then cast the one you want. Or you can use the Transpose ability which, while it only has effect when of the buffs is already up has the added bonus of resetting the timer on the buff. The result (at least for me) was a cycle between regen phase and a damage phase, kind of like the thunder/thundra/thundaga cycling in 1.0. I usually started with Ice for the slow, followed up with the Thunder Dot (since the bulk damage comes from the tick its not a huge waste to cast it with Umbral Ice up.), Used Transpose to get Astral Fire, Fire enough to get the enemy below 10% while keeping Thunder up if on a longer fight, then Transposing to Umbral Ice for Regen. Best of luck!
  21. Just for clarifications sake, was this information based on 1.0 experiences? in 1.0, I rarely felt "under powered" rather I was subject to the elemental resistances of certain enemies, and I did use some terrain and debuffs to maintain survivability. From what I was able to see in 2.0 (which is admittedly little). Good management of the Umbral Ice and Astral Fire Debuff, along with some other spells (such as the Thunder DoT). Rarely left me wanting for more damage. I would also add that it seemed many a Thamturge was operating from awfully close to their opponent. Made me scratch my head a little considering one of the first class quests emphasizes staying at least an arms breadth away. On the subject of Fire as a spell type, it was (at least in 1.0) primarily focused on rolling up into AOE damage, Thunder aligned was more potent for single target. Hope that helps, feel free to ask for clarification, i'm still in boot up mode.
