  1. Welcome to Balmung! Hope to be running into you someday!
  2. People tend to RP everywhere, although the the common ''hub'' tends to be the Quicksand in Ul'dah. It's your typical tavern/adventurer's guild so in and around the place is where most of the random RP can be found. But it can stretch across the entire city and further really.
  3. I paid for a transfer to Balmung some weeks ago, and don't regret a thing. It is definitely worth it if you like FF roleplay. I can't speak for other servers though, as I've not tried them out yet. Hope to see you around someday!
  4. I could do some shameless self-promotion for the FC I am in. The Pathfinders are always welcoming new folks whether you RP all the time, or whether you do it on occasion and just like to be social otherwise. The Pathfinders is an adventurers guild that resides at the Everyman Guild, an open tavern in the Goblet, Ward 8, Plot 59. You can always pay us a visit for roleplay, though giving a heads-up before arrival might be better lest you fail to catch anyone there IC. And if you already found a FC, I'm still more than happy to meet up sometime! Maariya is no dedicated master conjurer, but she knows a fair bit about it due to past studies and being a glorious Paladin. They might have something to talk about!
  5. Another Miqo'te (former) Gladiator from Ul'dah here! Maariya has some ties to the Brass Blade, but is by no means an official member. She does keep herself occupied with similar work as you are seeking, so perhaps we can meet sometime!
  6. Basically as was said above. Free Companies are really just guilds in other MMO's Linkshells are custom chat channels. You will see more of linkshells during your story quests as you level. They are completely viable IC methods of communication, using a ''linkpearl''. It almost looks like one of these secret agent things you put in your ear.
  7. Welcome to the server! If you ever find yourself in Thanalan, you might run into Maariya!
  8. And so your watch begins. Hope you manage to sneak onto the server soon! I paid for a transfer myself and it's definitely worth it though!
  9. Maariya here is a former Gladiator and found in Ul'dah quite a lot as it is where she lives. (She also happens to live really close to you!) Would be fun to make some new contacts, so you can poke me anytime, unless I find you first!
  10. I transferred to Balmung myself not too long ago and I definitely don't regret it. If you like roleplay it's certainly worth considering. And so far my queue experiences have been maybe 1 minute, 2 at the most at some days. It's not really that worrisome!
  11. Welcome to the forums! I'm still relatively new myself, but already made several nice friends! Perhaps we'll be meeting someday as well!
  12. If you ever find yourself in Ul'dah, you can likely find me (granted I am still there that day). Maariya miiight be a little conflicted about his craft, but she gives everyone a fair judgement! And you're more likely to catch her when is not performing her duties, so she would be wearing normal clothes and be far more lenient and approachable.
  13. Not sure it really counts as a ''pet peeve'' since it's one of those obvious annoyances that pretty much everyone agrees with, but it's what happened mostly with me on other MMO's. It's been mentioned before. The whole IC interest in someone transferring over towards OOC. And then it gets to a point where the people will get all anime desu desu on you and sent you hugs for no reason and get very clingy. Further I have a pet peeve about myself, which kinda only applies here in FF for now. I am admittedly a little bit of an elitist. I don't shun or ignore people or anything, but I always want to strive for a perfect lore-accurate story. Seeing as I am new to roleplay on FF.. I'm an ignorant little noob, which I can't stand in the slightest. This kinda goes hand in hand when a lot of people say; ''It's fine, you should do what you want, nobody is gonna mind'' when I -want- them to criticize me to death.
  14. I already visited the Quicksand several times, and met a few people Maariya, or at least I can call friend. However, I'm trying to find something more than that! The Quicksand is fun, but in the end it's just a tavern. I like to do more than loitering about and drinking. Which is why I am trying to find some sort of group where a Paladin could fit in etc.
  15. Hello everyone! I've been on the Balmung server for a few days now and got acquainted with a few characters. I play as Maariya Genhu, a female Miqo'te who became a Paladin in Ul'dah (where she currently resides). However, I do intent to do more with my character than strut around the city, meeting people. Seeing as I am still new to the server and unable to find a linkshell or group of people that are also Paladin, or do something similar to what a Paladin stands for, I feel like I should just make a thread here. What I am looking for: I'm not very picky, but I do want to find something that is suitable for the generic noble, need-no-reward Paladin shining knight type. I would love to travel around the world a bit more, and find RP in other places (I am unable to visit new expansion zones for now). Is there a place where an adventurous free Paladin could go to? Edit: I should also add that I live in Europe. Specifically the GMT+1 timezone, which is 1 hour ahead of the UK, and roughly 6 hours ahead of US. While I have holidays at the moment, and plenty of time. This will obviously not last. Here is a link to my wiki page, even if it is still lacking: CLICK HERE!
  16. First one is Maariya making friends! The second one is from before I had quit FF. It's not so much RP-related, but still nostalgic and glorious looking! Right before we were about to do this boss fight. The determination in her eyes is epic!
  17. Main Character's Name: Maariya Genhu Wiki: Click here! Usually online: Varies with education/holidays. 19:00 - 00:00 GMT+1 mostly. During holidays/weekends likely more depending on how much work I have. Intensity: Heavy
  18. Hello everyone! My name is Maariya Genhu and I am new to the Balmung server and new to roleplay on Final Fantasy. I've never roleplayed here before (safe for one short interaction one day before making this post), so I am a complete noob when it comes to lore etc. I have been roleplaying for several years on another MMO and have experience with both Officer and Guild Master duties, as well as being a Dungeon Master for roleplaying guilds. I came to this server due to a friend so I have no doubt I will settle in nicely soon enough, but I'd still like to say hello to everyone here and see if I can't establish some new contacts of my own. I am not American or English, so I might occasionally fail with my grammar and sentence structures, but otherwise I dare say I am understandable and competent enough. Now to talk shortly about my character! I am playing a female Miqo'te of the Paladin class. I have read up on a few wiki pages about Miqo'te, and the city of Ul'dah and decided to throw a short concept for a background together. Anyway! The background: Since I made my character at launch and gave it a name I use for a character in another game, it already doesn't follow the Miqo'te naming policy. I've decided to say that Maariya here is not a very traditional Miqo'te and was primarily brought up in the city of Ul'dah. She comes from common folks who passed away during an accident in the desert (or elsewhere if it proves to fit better). She was brought up by a (for now) nameless Arena Master / Gladiator who raised her as his own, and taught her how to use the sword. (This ties to the fact my first class was a Gladiator) Surprisingly enough she proved to be a decent fighter, and made enough gil to leave the arena behind and settle down with a normal life. However, Maariya is a rather adventurous type, and good in nature. She has always admired the shining Sultansworn and their code of conduct. She mustered the confidence to approach them, and apply to their organization, wishing to someday become a Paladin herself. A training she eventually passed. Now she lives in the city of Ul'dah by herself as she has no known family, and few friends due to her previous solitary nature, performing her duty as Paladin in whatever stories will happen in the future! That's the basic story I threw together! Feel free to criticize and correct me if it is unsuitable or conflicting with existing lore. Furthermore I hope to meet some new people in game!
