I have a soft spot for Gridanian stuff. I would offer to help more but I'm already stretched thin between LSes sadly.

discussion Things Your Character Believes That Are Wrong
Valence replied to Verad's topic in Character Workshop
Suen thinks that the fabled allagan nodes are beings with feelings too. She would literally lose her mind if she met one and would probably go cuddle it until death ensues. -
To muse a bit over the consumption or taint from aspected crystal aether, I would assume that since it is said to 'disturb' the balance of aether within the body, one would expect for example that aspected fire would result in greatly increasing the energy and heat produced by the body and thus leading to serious overheating and horrible fevers. Water? Would probably upset the ratio of salt in cells, leading to catastrophic cell malfunction and a possible global nervous meltdown, for example. I'm sure you can find other explanations and ideas around that and I find that tidbit rather interesting for all roleplay around medicine and healing. I wonder however, how precisely acts corrupted aether? Is it just an overaspected crystal? But it can also be due to voidsent taint. Is there a distinction to be made?

Ah, right. That bit.. Yeah I have seen there is an interesting couple of pages on the garlean tech and doodads in the lorebook, I'll try to have a look at it when I get back from work (and update my garlic lore thread).

Does lore says anything about Magitek prostetics and augmentations like that? Is that purely fanon or is there some lore examples about it?
-
I don't necessarily see it as conflicting per se, but it sure raises questions.

Hello, I'll start with lore check! It's perfectly fine to have a miqo'te being a monk, to begin with. The level50-60 monk questline presents us with 2 apprentice female Seekers, for example (of the Shadow Sect). It is best to keep in mind that monks are now few and far between since the Light Sect got absolutely genocided by the King of Ruin, though monks of that sect seem to still be kicking here and there, as proven by Widargaelt two older masters that raised him after he escaped the massacre. The Shadow Sect however, is not in any better shape, since before the slaughter they disagreed with the Light Sect on the matter of serving the royal Ala-Mighan dynasty, and both clashed and fought, and the Light prevailed. The survivors of the Shadow got banished. So either way, monks are not common individuals, and most people have forgotten about them. Even Widargaelt, pure blood mighan and all, that was raised by two Light masters, didn't even know about the very secretive Shadow sect. It is always better to be aware that taking on some jobs ICly might bring some dire results when lore gets revisited and elaborated upon, as we have seen with the Knights Dragoons recently. 4.0 should bring us a lot more stuff to build upon on monks, supposedly. Another thing also, is that monks are depicted like Dragoons, or most jobs: they are fucking powerful. They were absolutely feared by both the enemies of Ala-Migho on the battlefield, as well as those same elite mighan lancers that fought at their side so... That's to say the fear they inspired. Anyway, if we are to make an assumption that all jobs are similar in power level, then when you know that a damn black mage or white mage is literally a god on earth, I'll let you imagine what a good monk can do. You nailed perfectly the Seeker lore on Nunh and Tias so I don't see much to add there, other than it is not unusual for miqo'te to wander alone, or in groups separated from tribes. A lot of miqo'te are actually not really part of tribes but more of cities, or even enlisted in various militaries. Or maybe even both (tribe + job in a city, I don't see why not). So your exiled Seeker having been part of a tribe would work as well as a Seeker that was never part of a tribe to begin with. Up to you, it just offers alternative backgrounds. The original settlers of Limsa Lominsa were part of an insurgent Sea Wolf fleet that rebelled against their own nation in the name of their people (nation located in the Northern Islands somewhere in... the Northern Sea). They were mostly roegadyn Sea Wolves, but the fact that they had two elezen navigators at the very least, seems to show that they probably weren't only composed of roes. In any case, many people left aside by circumstances, bad luck, exile or whatever else, eventually came over time to join the new pirate nation of Limsa and become part of all those ruffians, no matter the race. The nation is composed of 20% of Seekers, so you are fine here either way. Now on a more subjective level... I think the reasons you gave for exiling from a tribe give a lot of nice opportunities and strife to build upon. The fact that he first tries to be a good lominsan and fight with an axe, but utterly fails at it, is also interesting and builds character. By the way, that's one of the best ways to make characters unique without going the road of silly edgy themes. I also think that what you call 'not original characters', when well anchored in the lore and given a unique well fleshed out personality, are actually the most original, so... I wouldn't worry about that, to the contrary.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales

Oh, fire mage? Still have to find a thunder mage I guess and my life will be complete. -
This time the Order was dragged into a sordid affair by the Ossuary, about a green rot plague and a lot of shady dealings, extortion, and human misery. It is only fair to say that some of them probably already regret agreeing to get their feet in such a nasty mess, but heh, their job is not supposed to be for the faint of heart... isn't it, right? And this is only the beginning, since they seem to have been taken for fools and ambushed for good measure. Other than supporting what has already been said this will probably sound super sarcastic, but know that if your FC isn't the usual generic 'merc company' or 'company of adventurers' you have to expect a lot more difficult to find people.

Over a longer fight WHM and SCH dps can usually even out, but for large AoE bursts like that WHM will probably win out. Yes, WHMs have to stop dps to heal, but it takes a SCH roughly 10~sec to get all of their DoTs up, with 3 of the 5 being delayed on AoE targets at least 5-6 seconds until you can Bane them all. Then another 15-30 seconds before they tick for full damage. A WHM can easily burn 4ish Holys in that same first 10s and then swap over to a quick burst heal and then swap back to dps 5s later if they desire. Back and forth. If damage is actually that severe that a Roused Selene (or Eos I guess?) cannot hold a tank up for at least rouse's duration on her own, then that SCH is probably going to have to drop out of Cleric for a much longer period to pop the tank back up to a safe level than it would take a WHM. Meanwhile we'll just have dots going, catching up to the damage a WHM would've already dealt by this point. (Obviously not saying one healer better than the other or that one can't out dps the other or out heal the other, just that the two jobs have vastly different strengths and playstyles, and AoEing trash down quickly is just one of those things WHM is pretty great at.) I was just saying that with a tank bad enough you don't even have much time to holy, but I don't disagree... For standard expert and similar roulettes i would take WhM all the time. I guess my point is that if your tank is that bad (and I have seen quite a few), then if you manage to pull more than 2 Holy you are lucky. That's not even 400 potency for each mob. Sch dots amount for close to 1000 all combined if they run their course. -
It's interesting to note that we also have confirmation that Ascians are NOT voidsent. Perhaps they are considered top rank 1 voidsent or something for whatever reason, but they certainly aren't. It also leads to that clear difference between Light and Dark, that are just tools at the service of Hydaelyn servants and Zodiark servants. Because, the Void, while the epitome of Darkness and therefore the result of the great flood of Darkness, is certainly a failure in the eyes of Ascians. It also means that pure darkness is of no use to them, probably the same way that pure Light as seen with Shard #1 of the Warriors of Darkness, is useless to Hydaelyn.
-
It also means that while the Ascians fight endlessly to see the realm (The Source here) thrown into chaos with the goal to drain Hydaelyn enough that eventually she will have to reunite all the shards and Zodiark with them (coming back to where he was banned from), they also incidentally at least once almost drained Hydaelyn completely of its aether (the 5th Calamity after the war of Magi). It could have very well ended like the 13rd shard where Iyegorn failed. It's also possible that shard reflections may not have the same ability to resist such cataclysms, and maybe one single Calamity is enough to render them barren. It is also interesting to learn more about auracyte. It seems to converge with what we already saw with the Scion's white auracyte that they used to 'capture' the soul of ascians in order to destroy them. It seems to be able to serve as a very strong prison for aetherial things (like ascians souls, primals, etc). Barring that white auracyte holds similar properties then, and that those weapons wielded by Cuchulainn and his peers probably sucked primals to the point of holding them captive (but slowly seeping out), it also could mean that ascians probably are infinitely more powerful than standard primals since Nabriales was about to break out of this white auracyte shard in a few minutes only. Note: just musings and speculation.

Yeah I saw that earlier, and that's absolutely huge if correct. Can't wait for my lorebook.

It happens a lot. Up until now I have had twice the no lines result, and once one single line. When you shuffle stuff with 7 stickers and your reshuffle doesn't give any line at 7 stickers, there is always something like 40% or more chances that it still wields no result once at 9. Sure, when they use it. Edit: Thanks, phone. But yeah, there was none of that. Don't get me wrong it's not like I wasn't able to throw out some full-dotted Banes on each pull, I just wasn't able to do so as much as I usually like to. I'm fine with big pulls, but this kid was getting shit on constantly (no CDs... hrk). Should have gone as a WHM. Oh well... hindsight etc. Pretty sure WhM is even worse for that. Once your dots are up at least you can focus on healing. WhM needs to drop all DPS every time tank health go low, and with a tank like that, even with a boosted regen, it does very fast... :c -
It's the localized stores. They seem to be utterly incompetent and/or overwhelmed...

Order still in preparation on the SE website. 9 days after.

MCH and MNK are nice for AoE DPS though. Very few classes like DRG that are actually shit at that, as far as I know (but DRG is the only one I don't really know). Even NIN is decent at AoE DPS. Problem in leveling I find is that people just don't use their AoEs for some reason (even if the rotation is like, 100 times easier). Even AoE casters like black mages. It's a bit sad. Your problem was mostly your tank I think, though yeah, those Heavensward dungeons can hit hard when you mass pull. Better for the tank to ask the heal if they are fine with it before. -
I suspect it's not necessarily the shipping companies that are to blame... I should have got mine 5 days ago (in EU), and still haven't. Unless ALL world shipping companies are suddenly being utter shit, yeah, I suspect SE stores here.

Probably would be seen as an oddity. But since male Keepers are mostly left on their own, wandering around, I really doubt that his... 'absence' in performing male duties will really be even noticed honestly. I'm sure they can do whatever the hell they want with little consequences (unlike male Seekers in a tribe).

Please, no non-human race / playable beast tribes. I wish that game to remain as far as possible from WoW. -

I did an expert run in Gubal Hard. I notice that the mentor AST is not casting protect... So I'm waiting a bit, then after the first fight I ask if we could get one... I get told "I didn't take it". At that point I silently pursued my lips (I'm a mentor too), and carry on... The Bard doesn't care about AoEs, or is pretty bad at avoiding them. They die a few times. The tank, also isn't able to keep correctly aggro, and it was certainly me ripping it off him since the bard wasn't doing much damage. And I used quelling strikes as much as I could. The heal also ripped aggro (honestly, a heal ripping aggro at that level?). They die. Tank die. I cast a vote to kick the AST and get asked by the two others "Why??". I shrug it off and carry on. We die a few more times, especially on bosses (that heal was really awful). Somehow I get 3 comms, so I concluded they were all in party together and somehow... I don't even. Bleh. Oh and just after for good measure, I pray for not Sastasha in leveling roulette, I get sastash with a tank that was in full 1-10 lvl grey gear with no right side accessories. As I was leveling AST, I can't even properly switch to cleric since he can die in less than 3 hits from those squishy NPCs... I come to be actually relieved when it's me or the DPS ripping aggro and tanking since it's way easier to heal and I can DPS in the meantime... To his credit, the guy wasn't really well informed and I told him to go visit the Smith immediately, and he was happy to learn about it. -
I'm having way more fun when being lore compliant, thank you very much. People complain that lore nazis somehow tell them how they should play and what they shouldn't do and whatnot (and I'm sure some do), but I would expect the courtesy for the extremists of the other side not to do the same... Would be much obliged.

If that's how your character would react, being a bit uncouth or dry and whatnot, I really don't see where the problem is. The onus is on the other dude. If they find it off putting OOCly and just want to see little rainbows and unicorns, and can't find themselves something to reply to warrant further discussion, then their loss. Probably not a compatible RPer anyway, so just part ways and find someone else. And also yes, the onus is on them to initiate conversation. I guess that's why I don't really go out RP in the open with random people. I know the people I RP with at least OOCly, even if it's the first time, and we always both decided to RP so... it doesn't happen.
