  1. *sets up a buffet table, and places numerous pie from his pie bag* I had my reservations at the beginning. I had my shield at full, expecting to happen what has happened in numerous other rp communities I've been a member of, both online and in real life. I was wrong. Yes.. It is a happy occasion! A very happy occasion!! To see a community of not one but TWO servers that are passionate about RP'ing succeeding in an MMORPG is inspiring. Yes, YOU! People of the RPC! You all have re-inspired me to care about an RP community! I truly look forward to the launch of this game, and when I get to rp with you all. Thank you RPC. This pie is for you! 10. If I read it correctly, if you wanted to play ARR and receive the collectors edition stuff, you had to buy the collectors edition. The regular version is a free "swap" if you will from the 1.0 version to the ARR version. I was reading that it was a coding issue between the "regular" and the "collectors edition". As for the email thing, I would do what Ellie said and contact SE account services.
  11. as I was on my way to the event, a real life problem reared it's head and I had to log extremely early. I am very sorry I missed the event

  14. Now, I just want to preface my response by saying that I am brand new to the FFXIV lore, so I can only go off of the things I've read, and no "in game" experience. *places a pie on the table* Now, to the topic at hand! "How concrete are racial cultures really in Eorzea?" I have no idea. HA! When I wrote the back story for my Roegadyn I scoured the inter-webs for information on this topic so that I could make his back story "believable" and "viable" for rp'ing. Not being able to find anything specific on Hellsguard culture, I resorted to examples from the real world and in fiction to fill in the gaps. Now, it's funny how you talked about a character "embedded" in a "tribal" society, as that is the back story I am going with on my Hellsguard. I wrote that his "tribe" has kept to the mountains that the Hellsguard hail from (Albathia's Spine if my memory serves me correct). Now, I have acknowledge that they have made contact with the "outside" world, hence the way they learned the "common" language, etc, etc... But for all intents and purposes they keep to themselves. when I RP him, I'm rp'ing that he is coming out of the mountains for the first time, so most things will be very new to him. I based this thought process on the Amish of Pennsylvania (NOTE: Thanks to my fiancee that totally brought the Amish concept up to me). Yes, there are Amish that go out into the "regular" world. Yes, there are some Amish that have constant interaction with "outsiders", and yes, outsiders can go and see the Amish if they drive into Amish country. But how much do we really know of the Amish? I mean, we know that they are an industrious, god fearing people that make some WONDERFUL pies (mmm.. Shoefly Pie). After that though, how much (as average human beings) of their actual culture do we know about? Now, I put (average human beings) in parenthesis because if you are a student of social interactions and cultures, yes you would have a deeper knowledge of the Amish. I would think that's the minority though. I'm talking about Jane and Joe Q Public that get their news from . Now mind you, the Amish are a people, a sub culture if you will, that lives smack in the middle of U.S. but to most are still very foreign. From my travels I've found that every country has their own little sub set of people that no one knows much about.. From the Gypsies of the U.K., to the Bedoin tribes of the Middle East, to the Monks of Asia. Again, all these peoples do have some contact with "modern" society, but we really don't know much about their cultures then some candy coated topping. Another thing to remember is that, coming out of an Umbral age, some places could very well have been cut off due to the devastation of war, Bahamut throwing a hissy fit, etc. and people are just re-finding/re-establishing communications with these places. I like to think that Eorzea is a big enough place that things like this could happen. So.. Ya, there ya go. This is a good topic! Gives some great fuel for thought. Well done!

  17. "did you take a little bit of official lore and run with it? " Now, let me precede this by saying I did not play 1.0, and I haven't been in the beta. I haven't played FF since it came out for the NES, so my lore knowledge was nil, until I did research. I did take a bit of the official lore and run with it. That's why I was very nervous with writing this out. Mind you, my fiancée and I scoured the internets for Roegadyn information, and we kept finding pretty much the same thing over and over again. The nice thing is that (from what I've seen) the lore is written in such a way that it leaves a bit of wiggle room when writing your own stories. So, I took that, along with some other fictional stories and some stuff from our real world and history, threw it in a blender, and out came this frothy bit. Then, once I had this story, I got a mentor to take a look at it (THANKS KONNER ) to make sure there was no really big, glaring lore/rp issues. It was a bit of a creative process, but (at least I feel) it paid off. I think the big thing when it comes to writing back stories is too look at the world as a whole, and not just what has been zeroed in. Yes, we know what happened in the trailer, and it was really cool. At the same time, however, Eozera is a big world, with billions an billions of little stories going on at the same time. Time and time again I find that those little stories come forth and do the most amazing things. When you do that, however, make sure you respect the lore. There's a huge difference with bending lore and snapping it in half. That's my unprofessional 2 peso's worth. Sorry if I went off topic, but.. Yes. I did  Oh, and if anyone wants to incorporate this or use this to help out with a backstory, by all means. Now that I'm getting some positive feedback, I have no problems if the community wishes to use the "Seljwaht" for anything.
