I know that feeling - the worry that you're bugging people, or interrupting something, or what have you! It's part of why I get terribly anxious about messaging people, even ones who have given me express permission to do so on this site. But take heart - if you talk to someone and they're busy, the worst you're likely to get is a "hey! sorry, I'm busy right now can we talk later?" or something to that extent. As for "messing up"... you know, everyone starts somewhere. I'm still pretty new to the game (I've been playing for about a month, give or take a couple days) and I know I still get turned around on some lore bits and what I can/can't do (or even what I should/shouldn't do in some situations). But most people will shrug it off, or if they think it's important they might drop you a /tell with some friendly advice or to discuss alternatives. That aside, your kid sounds fun! I'm not sure how well he'd get along with my quiet, overly book-absorbed shy scholar catte, but do feel free to send me a /tell sometime if you like!

I jumped into Balmung feet-first a little bit ago, somehow fell in with a really great group of people, and haven't bothered to look back. I hope the same happens for you! Even if you aren't sure how you'll do in the RP setting, if you want to do it and then just spend a little bit watching and learning how people do it in-game, I'm certain you'll pick it up no problem! The lgbtqa+ thing as well was something I was concerned about, but like it's been said, that became pretty quickly a moot point. I'm sure as with anywhere there will be jerks, but it seems like the overwhelming majority of people I've run into have been incredibly cool about it. I dismiss my familiar when just running around places, and will usually forget to re-summon it until the second or third pull in a dungeon. Or about 30 seconds into a primal fight. And sometimes I go into healer tunnel vision where I'm so focused on getting everyone's health up that I forget to watch for AOEs and get myself killed...

Basically this, only in Qarn. And with slightly more restraint on the part of the tank. Who was also a dark knight, and I am also a scholar. And I had a bard with me. Hrm. Coincidences...

The problem is if they die, you usually die too. I've gotten pretty good at keeping dps alive if they're able to keep things off me. Otherwise yeah, it gets ugly and usually ends in a wipe. Maybe someday I'll be good enough to just heal-tank

I got a random tank last night that would sprint away halfway through a battle in order to go grab another group of mobs, leaving the dps to get chewed on by all the things he couldn't hold aggro on. To make things more fun, he was at-level for the dungeon with woefully under-level gear. Being the healer was... let's just say 'intense'. I've been told that I need to learn when to stop healing a bad tank and just let them die when they do stupid stuff, but that makes me feel really guilty...

The way I've been looking at it is that my kid isn't the Ultra Special Uber One True Hero, but I do like the idea of him getting pulled in to work for/with the Scions and suchlike. It's something that I keep re-evaluating as I get farther into the main quest and get to see more of what's going on. For me, at least, it's hard to figure out an exact take on it until I know the whole story. So I'm kind of... vague... about it so far. But I really don't think there's a "right" or "wrong" way to do it, either!

I'm a painfully shy person IRL, and I've been out of the RP scene for years except with a couple of friends through forums or IMs that turn into something more like collaborative writing. I worry that I'm so new to this game and so rusty with RP that anything I do is going to sound totally noobish, contrived, and un-engaging. I got to do a little RP with some amazing players the other night who were absolutely fantastic. But going into it I almost had a panic attack, even though we'd talked a bit before and I'd been invited into it. I still spent a good 5-10 minutes shaking like a chihuahua in front of my computer and almost broke and ran. I feel like I'm a burden and doing anything with me is a waste of time, partly because I take too long to ponder my response and so it feels like I'm replying excessively slow and partly because I really just don't know things. I guess overall I'm just exceptionally insecure all around.

Oh thank you, that makes me feel a little better. Still wild, though.

Okay, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this and I apologize. Since transferring to Balmung I haven't seen nearly the crazy numbers of gold sellers that I encountered on my old server. But all day today I've been seeing tons of characters with keysmash names, all in the same hooded robe, and I'm just really confused about it? Like I know people have been trying hard to get new characters onto the server with no luck, so how are all these people appearing? Or am I totally crazy and I'm the only one seeing them?

RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Any, really? I'm still learning the lore of this (I'm a former WoW player) and I've only been playing for a short while, so probably best not to get too lore-heavy at this point. Views on RP combat and injuries: I'm not very good at writing combat, but if you're determined I suppose we could work something out. Injuries are dependent on what's going on and the desired overall outcome, and again could totally be worked out. Communication! Views on IC romance: As long as it makes sense and fits in with the ongoing character story, I've got no problems with it. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Same. Cam already has a twin brother so I probably wouldn't want to do much sibling-wise with him, but that's my only major pause point. Views on lore: I like lore and I try to incorporate it as much as possible, but I'm still learning. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I have no problem with them? No preference at this point. III. Cam's not much of a danger/thrillseeker, really.
