  1. It could still happen to Monks if SE comes out and says only the Job Trainer and his nine best friends made it out of Gyr Albania alive, and then the expansion gives us 8 more original-Fists of Rhalgr. People currently playing a Monk who escaped Ala Mhigo would either have to retcon their characters as being Shadow Sect or find some kind of loophole around it. Anyway, the DRG and MNK and every other Job RPers I play with are cool, and I'm not about to disassociate with them over a line in the lore book.
  2. I think it's worth noting that unless the graphics are different on a JP server, all the text we see around Eorzea like the "No Entry" signs would still be in "English". In that case, I'd take it that the characters' spoken language, even on JP or EU servers, will still be a separate, English-y language, and won't resemble the Japanese-y native language of Doma.
  3. Oh jeez, I think this one escaped my notice... Did I blank out and miss the event I signed up for last time? September 4th was so long ago, but not so long ago that it should be a blank in my mind... If you're okay with me, I'd like to sign Jana up for the third event again. And sorry if I did completely forget last round.
  4. Slight bump to the thread! Per the lore book, we have full names for two NIN characters: Oboro Torioi and Karasu Kanshi. I'm waiting to see if we get the kanji of their surnames from the JP version of the book, but neither of their surnames seem to be related to their given names or "titles" ("epithet" in the lore book) that are taken directly from their given names.
  5. Jana's biggest guilty pleasure would be sex; she is the way she is due to a deceased lover and while she's been with others since then, she still feels like she doesn't deserve it on some level. What should be her biggest guilty pleasure is the fact that she enjoys all sorts of violent acts including killing, but she can still justify it to herself as it being ok if it's an enemy.
  6. Don't forget Papalymo has Tupsimati now too. re: Eyes, I immediately knew throwing them off was a bad idea. Maybe it wouldn't be possible to skewer them with Estinien's spear or something but they must have had some way to store them safely and separately in Ishgard.
  7. Another possibility I didn't think of yesterday is that, much like real-life feudal societies, only nobles were important enough to have surnames/family names. The "titles" could have been given to them or self-chosen because peasants didn't get a real surname. There really isn't anything lore-wise to suggest this is the case, though.
  8. I've always seen the English "last names" given to NPCs as being more like titles than their actual family names, like when we see them fighting alongside the player character in story instances. We know from the Raen naming conventions that surnames/family names also follow feudal Japanese style, so I'd think the same would apply to Doman Hyur.
  9. Jana's already in both ongoing plots, so I'll hang back until people have had a chance to sign up.
  10. For future reference, the forests of Gridania are referred to as the Black Shroud. Seems to have blended Black Shroud and Twelveswood, both of which are names used for that area in game. Other than that, nothing else to add!
  11. I know it's basically already event time but here is my first attempt at a ship-specific sheet. One question: In exchange for having some stunts be specific to the ship rather than herself, does Jana still have 4 stunts? Or only 3? If the latter, then I'm fine dropping the 4th.
  12. No problem, gave me a chance to check out some other new things before bed!
  13. I ran Wiping City for the first time last night... The name was apply chosen by the community. I died a few times while learning mechanics but had the hang of it by the end, but an entire other alliance kept wiping us at Ozma (5 times), the zombie boss (twice), and whatever the last boss was named (twice). Took an hour and forty minutes to clear. I got Aurum Vale in my LLR immediately after with a new-but-synched WAR who wiped us twice in the opening room and once on the first boss before I dropped. I just couldn't take it anymore...
  14. The razing itself was only a few months ago in game time. Doma's rebellion was prompted by the death of the previous Garlean emperor, who was alive at the start of ARR.
  15. Sounds like Leanne gained one Jana point. :3
  16. Sorry, there's no way for me to be home from work that early. In PST I usually get home at 4ish, though it's hard to say when I'll be getting home now that I'm car-less.
  17. I don't think there's any concrete info on it, but I'd assume it's light-aspected rather than "holy", like the Banish spells used by mobs in Pharos Sirios. Maybe someone else who knows more can help?
  18. Stone Torches are the same thing as Brass Blades, except that they answer to the Amajiina (can't check the spelling at work) Mineral Concern. Think of them as being the law enforcement and guards specifically for the mines.
  19. Mondays are a little dicey but I'll try. Edit: its a good thing this didn't happen tonight because my car died haha
  20. I *should* be free, if my car doesn't die between now and then.
  21. First thing to jump out at me is that your timeline is a bit out of step with what we know. The razing of Doma happened within the last few months of in-game story time, not as long ago as your timeline says. Also, for your character to have been growing up in the Twelveswood for as long as she had, she would have seen the Calamity that happened between 5 and 6 years ago.
  22. I don't feel very strongly about it, but I avoid them as a matter of course. It wouldn't do for me to drag Y'shtola/Aymeric/etc into Jana's personal story (especially given how antagonistic she can be).
  23. Gubal Library Hard Mode is coming next big patch, so I'd recommend waiting until then. Though I suppose the fact that there is a hard mode means it isn't clear of critters or open to the public.
