I agree with Damien. I think that fundamentally it's not about the Mudras themselves, but actually the skillset that your masters might deem appropriate for a Shinobi to possess before you're "trusted" with another Mudra. Perhaps anyone with good manual dexterity could learn the Mudras quick and effectively, but the point of a Ninja is to use them in combat; to have them so devoted to muscle memory and knowing so well when their application is appropriate that you couldn't simply master all of them in a month because they are part of the lifestyle of a Ninja. Knowledge of a Mudra =/= Mastery of a Mudra, and Ninjutsu is not exclusively the study of Mudras. How long? I couldn't say, likely depending on how intensely you train, how effective your masters are, and your own capacity, but I'd like to think that the Ninja fantasy sort of implies that you know each and every one of the Mudras in such an in-depth manner that you'd probably need months of training to be deemed worthy of a Mudra, then months of training to commit that Mudra to memory and all it adds to your already solidified technique. It might help to think of it as earning a black belt in a Martial Art. You could have it in 2 years with intense daily training, or in 5 years with a couple training sessions a week.

Love your style! So cute!

Hey guys! After having life snatching me from FFXIV for a couple of years some friends recently dragged me into the game again and as someone who had always mained WAR, I found myself trying out AST and really loving the concept. Now, as I'm a creature of high taste and refinement, I play a Roegadyn Sea Wolf who is not an established character. Essentially, he's a blank slate as I never truly RPed him despite having plans for it. I was trying to figure out a concept that might be interesting because even if I don't want to play a very cerebral Ishgardian sort of Astrologian, I think that there's legitimate fun in trying to RP card readings and sort of a lighthearted Tarot with players. ... my problem is that I'm looking for a way to have it make sense that I'm a Roegadyn, and not one particularly invested in anything Ishgard at all. So I was thinking of perhaps playing him as a Navigator who used the stars and other signs for his work on ships, and eventually picked up Astrology more as a parlor trick but eventually did learn the art. Point being is that I'd love to have more of a roguish take on a fortune teller, while still having a practical use for the class proper. Is this something you'd consider viable or should he just be a hack with a deck of cards? My AST lore is a bit rusty and I'm not really sure about how to go with the foundations of the character. If I can't make it work I have an absolutely dashing RDM set with cowboy hat and all, so not all is lost.

I personally don't like it in most cases because I've seen it done very poorly in different settings, and a lot of the time it boils down to a person creating a character like that because they simply don't like how the race they're adopting the culture from looks. A lot of elves being raised by monstrous races come to mind. Is there precedent in the universe? Yes, clearly, as proven in this post. Will some RPers judge your character poorly by default at least initially? Quite likely. If you're fine with that, go right ahead.

After a very long absence I'm back into the game stronger than ever, but so far I want my RP horizons to expand a bit further than trying to get some serious RP from the Quicksand's patrons. If any spots are available, I'd love an invite for Altai Iriq.

I'd be more than happy to be the manatee to a mentor so we can hold hands and have a merry symbiotic relationship of fun and giggles.

Well my character sees all Lalafell as cute little skittering babbies that are just heartwarming to look at. Even if they're gritty, badass mofos. Like little onion people puppies.

I'm Spanish (GMT+2). So yay, Europe. And I am going to most probably, with 99% certainty going to be on Balmung.

I play guitar and sing in a shitty, grimy metal band. And no, not posting any vids. We suck donkey dick.

He is close to being 50, so I might include a past of piracy. But now he's old and jolly and no one would ever think he ever was a pirate. Nyerk nyerk.

no go away pls Also hi.

I always Roleplay my characters' physical appearance according to their lifestyle. My Roegadyn here will be brutish, scarred and visibly aged (as befits someone close to the fifties who has worked at a forge for a lifetime, or battled wielding axes). In WoW my rogue was an old military veteran who was pretty ugly due to a lifetime of scars (most done by player characters, as far as having half his face burnt). My SWTOR bounty hunter was similarly ugly. My Secret World mage character was a sickly, gaunt sort of Lovecraft type. I do RP extremes, but I think that these quirks and choices add a lot of flavor, but then again I am one more prone to have characters with a much wider set of flaws than actual prowess in any field, because I think that it's limitations, and not masteries, which bring greater depth to interaction. Most my characters excell in one of three areas: Social interaction, physical strength, or mental strength, and then are 'neutral/secondary' in another, and 'bad' in another, as a rough picture.

Pirates are swell, ninjas smell. And thanks for the welcome guys.

I do. I set a birthday for my character (usually my own, or a memorable date in my calendar for the sake of remembering), and the age my character is as he is created is already at least roughly on my mind (20s, 30s, 40s... etc.). When I decide what age my character exactly was at creation, then they age accordingly.

This thread needs more beards. There's only like two acceptable beards in here.

Roegadyn males are going to be surrounded by the most beautiful females. Sorry folks. Such is life.

I just finished setting it all up, but I'll wait around for people to be there before hopping inside. I don't know who anyone is and I feel awkward and weird unless there's a couple more folks to soak up my welcome.

A little music for those who enjoy a tune while reading. QcKXsAlV0lg The hammer dropped with a monotone rhythm, a cacophony of echoing percussion bouncing against the sturdy brick walls of the forge. The red hot rods now gaining a white tone, shrieked out at the punishment from the blacksmith, with deaf thuds of complaint as they bled out a penetrating heat that made the coal skin glisten with a layer of sweat. Fire was the only light as the sun retired in search of slumber: fire in the heart and fire in the forge, illuminating and shadowing the Roegadyn's body in strange, dancing patterns, slouched forward in the stool in concentration. Thick, dense air enveloped the instance, where only the lonely anvil would aid the long working hours. Some assistant skittered about carrying back the tools others had left in a rush for a cheap mug of ale, picking up tongs, hammers and chisels. One dropped to the ground, then another as a crate almost tipped over with a clumsy step of the dilligent Lalafell that wished to challenge the impositions of verticality by learning a trade fit for more robust figures. The elder Roegadyn blinked in surprised, mouth shaped into an 'oh' as he looked at the tiny figure trotting around the ground to pick up the goods. His expression turned into a heartwarming smile, and then a slow, rumbling chuckle. He stood up with a grunt and wiped his gloved hands on his apron, walking over to aid the distressed, diminutive apprentice. "I'm so so so sorry sir! Don't tell the chief, please?!" the copper-skinned Dunesfolk Lalafell chirped in dismay. The red hue on his cheeks was a mix of embarassment and the heat, as his eyes, accustomed to sunlight and heat, glistened brightly, reflecting the flame. Meanwhile, the kneeling blacksmith smiled out a soft chuckle through his teeth, shaking his head as he picked up the remaining tools of the trade, before patting his head with an enormous, soot-ridden hand. The tiny apprentince tried to suppress his smile with a pouting frown, granting his expression an almost mischievous display as he looked away shyly, before skipping away with a quick "Good night Master Grey!", with the sound of tiny feet tapping against the stone floors. The enthralling song of the forge had broken its spell with this interruption, but it did not bother the gentle giant, whose working hours were already done. The blade would wait, for iron waits forever. Like a cold lover waiting for a spark to ignite the flame within to awaken her, iron loves forever. He stepped out of the workshop with a relieved sigh as the seabreeze touched his glistening skin, and the touch of wind against sweat brought a delicious shiver down his spine as he stood there, admiring the sea, taking in its scent with a deep breath. Below, a ship's lights illuminated the waters enough to paint a scene of gold and copper and blue, as the distant sound of song and the barking of orders reached his ears. It was life at its purest, and it brought a happiness to his heart that one can rarely put into words. It was reward for a night's effort, and it was solace for his aging heart. The Roegadyn walked alone back to the small room he called home: nothing but four scarcely decorated walls with enough space for his few belongings, a desk with a chair, and a bed. He had no one to share it with, and no need for more. Amidst the chaos of the harbor, these four walls signified enough: a place to belong and claim as his own. Few could wish for a simpler life, but few would be as pleased as him to have so little. Happiness was, after all, to be proud of oneself. And as his father before him had said: "Son, whatever you may be, be the best you can be". And with that thought, the world darkened around him with only a satisfied sigh to lull himself to sleep.

I will be joining the Legacy server because honestly all I wish for is to immerse myself in the living world. This means joining the primary unofficial RP server, and also getting a chance to learn from those who have been skipping around Hydaelyn for all these years! In time I am sure I will find my place, or perhaps even make my own. Cliques will be everywhere, so that much does not upset me.

I usually pick my race/clan/faction/etc. of choice out of the one I find has an inspirational lore, or powerful concepts that I think will help me expand a character in my mind. I generally don't play humans, as I find one of my greatest enjoyments in RP in trying to wrap my mind around the cultural points of view and reactions of fictional races. In this case, my main of choice is a Roegadyn. First, because I find no appeal in the Miqo's, and don't generally like elves. No offense to their players, but in most games there is a race to which I always sense that people with different RP styles than mine are going to gravitate towards. I had doubts between Lalafell and a Sea Wolf, but ultimately I thought that perhaps Roegadyn were going to see the least love from the community and decided for a very cliché concept to begin with: the fatherly, gentle giant. It was out of the need of a breath of fresh air seeing how I had gone for more gritty, dark characters in other settings, and I simply needed a simple, easy break for once, one that had ease to socialize as opposed to the brooding, deep character.

I. Basic Info Characters: Grehjarr Ahldaegsyn (In-game name will probably be 'Grey Ahldaegsyn' due to character limitations.) Primary character: See above. Linkshells: None. Primary RP linkshell: None. II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Heavy RP. RP is my main point of interest while I play games, and it is the very main reason I take part in them to begin with. For all purposes my character can be taken as being in-character every time he's seen, and of course I am perfectly fine with any interactions, despite your own approach to RP. Nonetheless, I rather enjoy RP that is realistic and down-to-earth, considering the universe in particular. Views on RP combat and injuries: Open to it, and my character is free game in terms of injuries. In-character actions = In-character consequences. Nonetheless I would beg anyone trying to RP combat with me to not be Jesus Christ II. I am more than open to losing, as I find drama to be a catalyst for great RP, but please take into account that having my character destroyed for the sake of an IC disagreement is a bummer for both you as a player with a potential enemy, and for me because of the time invested into my character. Nonetheless if Grey dies, he dies, but please have a legitimate reason if that is the case. Views on IC romance: My character is aged and generally I suppose that he does not have the appeal to be a fitting romance companion, but I am open to anyone who'd warm his enormous heart. Regarding sexual themes in RP, I am not generally a fan since I think that they do more damage to RP than good since many RP romances boil down to simply that. If you truly wish for sexual themes to be roleplayed, it can happen as a particularly important story element for the sake of that moment alone, and surely it won't be a continued trend. Otherwise I apply the 'fade-to-black' tool for the sake of peace of mind. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Surely open to anyone willing to have any tie to my character, be it family, or whatever other important figure in his life. Any RP is welcome, and since my character is little more than a concept still, any suggestions will be listened to and surely we can find a way to arrange it. Views on lore: In any universe I step into, I try to stay strictly true to the game's lore and the setting's and player's conventions of do's and don'ts. I am still a bit green regarding Hydaelyn's lore, but I sure am learning, and I expect at least the same general understanding from people RPing with me, or at the very least that they do not play blatantly lorebreaking concepts. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): As much as I would like that to be the rule, I don't impose it by any means, but /say is strictly IC for me. Linkshells, party chats etc. depend on the circumstances and justifications for it, but unless otherwise stated will be taken as OOC. III. Other Info Country: Spain. Timezone: GMT +2 Contact info: You can find me on Skype under the username kokarro. [glow=blue]~Special announcements can be found in the posts below~[/glow]

Avast ye! A new player arrives! I played Final Fantasy XI briefly back in the day. I played FF XIV from the beta and then for roughly two months after release. But all in all back then it wasn't what I wanted in an MMO. The game didn't captivate me or engage me in any particular way. But seeing how my laughable Legacy status gave me a free shot at ARR, I thought I might as well give these folks another chance, seeing the work and spirit put into development. And well, I was just enamored by the changes, and I found the world immersive and alive and all things that are good, and now I found myself preordering where I thought I was done with this franchise. About myself, I am a Psychology student somewhere in Spain, who has a main interest in RP when it comes to MMOs. I am a 'heavy RPer' by definition, as much as I hate those categories, and have been around pretty much most MMO around for a while (consumerism, yay), to only stick around those with a strong RP sense of community. Hopefully to be found here. Also a big fan of music, I sing in a shitty metal band, etc. I will be starting fresh with a new character, who for now is almost surely going to be a Roegadyn Sea Wolf male, probably with a main focus as a Marauder, or some other spanky class. I'm still a little oblivious to a lot of FF XIV's lore, but I'm learning, so please bear with me!
