  1. There aren't really any official organizations in the lore outside of things like law enforcement, government and research. Doesn't stop you from coming up with something of your own as long as it fits the setting, though.
  2. Yehn'za hates Ishgard, so he won't hang around there unless it's absolutely necessary.
  3. The problem is that I see people doing this all the time with various things and it almost always ends badly. For all you know, House Haillenarte could end up destroyed between now and Heavensward, or even midway through the expansion MSQ. As Tiergan said, it's much safer and more practical to invent your own noble house. Example: I knew of some people running around RPing as hooded members of Yugiri's race. They were 100% sure she would be revealed to be a Viera and were modeling their RP as such. Now we know they're wrong and the lot of them are forced to backpedal and essentially lose all of the RP they did. You also have to consider that using any sort of in-game faction as your own ends up causing drama more often than not. Every now and then you'll see posts crop up on these boards from people who RP as or are part of organizations that RP as part of the Grand Companies, or the Brass Blades, and they're upset that people don't treat them with authority. I don't think you should be making yourself part of an organization that could potentially have a major impact on the story, just because it puts other RPers on the spot about they might act around you.
  4. It's risky to do anything relating to a canon organization that we have little to no lore on because whatever you presume to be correct could end up being way off base. With Heavensward so close I find it kind of baffling that people can't just bite the bullet and hold off til then as opposed to getting their hopes up for what could in the end become entirely non-canon.
  5. Girlfriend and I enjoyed watching the fights despite our crap internet disconnecting us every few minutes. Hoping you continue this so we can show up next week.
  6. If I have a bunch of stuff to craft you can be damn sure I'll set myself to doing it and then walk away. If people want on our server bad enough they can lurk til 6AM like everyone else. Blame SE for not starting with megaservers or something like any new MMO should in TYOOL 2014.
  7. Yehn'za does odd jobs and plays the economy to fund his research and hobbies, so it wouldn't be a stretch to say that he's bought or sold something from your girl at one point or another via a proxy or otherwise. Anyway, circumstances have pushed him to become less of a prickly introvert recently so he wouldn't be opposed to making a new acquaintance or more permanent business partner if you wanted to try and work something out.
  8. Wish they would just upgrade the server hardware. It's hard to convince friends to join the game when after you telling them how fun it is there's always that "BUT.. you have to be up at 4AM to get on the same server as me".
  9. In the past when I've wanted to involve some sort of bounty hunter/law enforcement I just sent them an anonymous mail ICly on these forums to make them aware of the crime/criminal in question.
  10. It's from a video game, actually. I appreciate stuff that comes from Japan (like the vast majority of video games), I don't obsess over it and desperately try to surround myself with what I think is the culture. Nice try though.
  11. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I cannot help but feel you just called us a bunch of weeaboos. http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m2a1quIzox1r6zm3i.png[/img] If the shoe fits.
  12. Just to play devil's advocate, I'm going to imagine that Doma is analogous to India simply because of the way they dress (normal clothes being long, sack-like shirts, fancy clothes being, well, what Yugiri is wearing) But If I can recall correctly. Doma is japan based... I wouldent doubt however, that a place based on India is somwhere in Hydaelyn. What are you recalling, exactly?
  13. That's blind optimism and hopes, nothing more. Aside from a couple of vaguely-japanese-sounding-names there's not a single thing to dictate what Doma is going to be like. You DO realize it was conquered by Garlemald, right? You know what conquering civilizations tend to do to the old cultures, right? Debatable. Not -all- countries get developed right away after they were conquered. It takes lot of decades for old civilizations and cultures to slowly fade away. During Meiji to early 1900 period, it took China, Korea and Japan to slowly accept westerner cultures, and also it took a long time for China and Korea to have their cultures disappear. Took at least 20-40 years to accept modernization since they were conquered. Everything is just a prediction as Berrod says, and we don't know anything about it. As for my far east character, she's from an island away from Othard and Doma that is in a civil war within their own clans. So it's really a bit different from actual people who live in Doma to avoid any lore conflicts. It's just a hint that her clans do have ninjas and samurais (swordsman to current term). There is still yet to see if Ala Mhigo completely inherited technology of Garleans yet anyways. We'll have to see by Heavensward maybe if it gives us the opportunity to see further norther regions. It's a huge leap to assume Doma has clans or anything even remotely close to a Japanese culture, and going as far as saying "oh it's a small island you've never heard of it" is just an excuse to not have to stay within the confines of the lore we do have. You can protest all you want, but people are latching onto this Doma = Japan thing just because for whatever reason since anime became a mainstream thing some people have become obsessed with Japan and Japanese culture (or what they think is Japanese culture from watching anime). It gives them an out for their non-canon name and an excuse to skirt the edges of the established canon by referencing a part of the world we have no information on.
  14. In regards to people doing overtly villainous things and then walking around as if nobody can touch them, if it gets to the point where they're clearly metagaming (they just shanked someone and danced in the puddles of their blood in front of a city guard), I think it's safe to just ignore them because chances are they weren't serious members of the community to begin with. That said, always send them a tell first to let them know if what they're doing is straying over to the metagamey side of things first. A good RPer will take the criticism and learn from it.
  15. XIV uses names from other Final Fantasy's, yes, but they're rarely if ever the same thing as what they are in the original game.
  16. Its also annoying to people playing the every-day sorts who such villains tend to prey upon, who are essentially unable to have protection from them. I would think villains would be able to gather at any major area outside of the city-state capitals. It may require a little stretch to imagine that a heinous and wanted outlaw could sit down for a drink at Drybone, but it seems vastly more appropriate than Ul'dah itself Wouldn't Mor Dhana be an area that such types could gather without much fear of being apprehended? Just blending in with the adventurers? The best villain is the one you don't know exists. =P So I don't see a reaosn why the nefariously-inclined shouldn't be allowed to hang out at the hotspots as long as they're not cackling and twirling their mustaches in public.
  17. I don't see how my character pointing out glaring flaws and discrepancies in anothers backstory is griefing. =/ It's his job to be critical and seek knowledge and all we know of the Far East is what Warren said. It's not enough to form the foundations for a character.
  18. You should be using these events, good or bad, to shape your character. You can't just erase what you don't like. There are TIMES when a person needs to erase it when it's necessary. It's not your decision to say what they can do and what they cannot do. You aren't the developer of the game nor the game master of the game. You can freely ignore players or myself if -you- think your roleplaying style doesn't match with other players. What you are saying is "Oh you made a mistake and you are ruining your character and your player skills. What you've done is permanent. I will not consider you to fix anything because you already made a mistake in-character." What's the point of RPing if there's no continuity or consequences for your actions? What's the point of RPing with someone who will just troll and grief players because they make mistakes and take every words by hand by players small or big mistakes? There's a difference between making a typo or jumping during an RP scene (player actions, feel free to pretend it never happened) and your character doing something you later regret (character actions). We play in a world with thousands of other people, and as such our RP will often affect people even if they're not directly involved in a scene. So, for you to just erase some RP because you as the player "changed your mind" is irresponsible and unfair to everybody else. I'm not trolling or griefing, and I'm sorry if you got that impression.
  19. What's wrong with making a character? 2.4 is coming out and there will be plenty of explanations from the Ninja job class about far east culture. You are basically saying that this person cannot make a character early ahead to gather some basic information to start up their character when there are plenty of information that Doma exists and has some cultural events that happened in Eorzea. the character can basically say: "I cannot tell you because it is a secret to reveal my culture" because chances are that ninjas are not allowed to reveal secrets anyways. Are you going to be upset because of that? No. Because it literally IS a player's choice whether he/she wants to reveal their character background to others. First, that opens a whole different can of worms in regards to actualy roleplaying a ninja when we have no diea what their lore or backstory is like. They could be like PLD or BLM and be something so super rare it wouldn't make sense to RP one. Second, a character is welcome to say they don't want to talk about their homeland. But my character will call them out on it. He's an author on ecology/geography/Eorzean history, and as such is very interested to meet people from other lands, but he'll laugh in the face of anyone claiming to be from a super secret place only they know about.
  20. You should be using these events, good or bad, to shape your character. You can't just erase what you don't like. There are TIMES when a person needs to erase it when it's necessary. 22. Even though it already gives plenty of hint in future patch and events that far east exists? People experiment and work out their character everyday to make something new into the story. Snowflake or not, not everyone plays an empty character - especially when it's still vague enough for each race by their certain tribe and racial behaviors. So I mean, would you be this kind of person and challenge their character like this because it confines established lore? "Why are you a Sworn and in a duty when you are not next to Sultana protecting her? That's questioning the lore" Or even "How are you able to use muskets when the lore clearly closed the musketeer guild?" There are plenty of good writers and good RPers who always edit and work on their characters all the time. Good artists and good writers will -never- say their works are masterpiece and it is done. They adjust and work on it more or rebrush it to improve it. What you are saying is just completely difficult for anyone to do something new and challenge for once. We aren't all conformists. Some end up being a rebel or some end up being something different. It's human nature. In -lore- we may not be all same human/homo sapiens, but they surely behave and think the same like regular humans in the real world do. They just can't create cellphone yet. That's not gonna happen because some of us like something different from everyone else. And yet there are plenty of hints and plenty of cultural explanations of Doma/Far east from the NPCs. So who are you to say that it doesn't exist because lore didn't explain it 100%? There is less information about Ala Mhigans fully 100% and that applies to Duskwights or any type of races besides what is given to us. Not all Japanese-y names are from Doma and they RP with others. Are you going to criticize them for that too? EDIT: I'd like to add that FFXI had vague lore for samurais and ninjas because they are also from far east but the lores were sliced off and people RPed making their own plots back then. It still hasnt been explained fully. "Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn't really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That's because they were able to connect experiences they've had and synthesize new things." -Steve Jobs "Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way" - Edward de Bono There is not enough lore on the Far East or Doma to base a character around yet. People are just using it's existence as an excuse to roleplay their anime wannabe characters with impetus. It's not about being a rebel or fighting the system, it's about taking the world your character exists in and making your story realistic. If you need some fancy backstory just to stand out, you're probably lacking in actual RP skills or you need to find better people to RP with.
