If Square Enix can actually pull this off (hurrr >implying), then it will mean nothing but good news for the series. After the ass disaster that was FFXIII and it's ilk, SE has been much more responsive to fan feedback, and if they get enough thumbs up for revisiting and remaking older games, who's to stop them from doing more? Now get those rods out of your butts and be happy, I mean - it could have been a port to the iOS for Chrissake, and that would have been good cause to be upset. FF6 will never get a proper remake because Japan hates it. MQ will never get a proper remake because EVERYONE ELSE BUT ME hates it. FF2 had a remake on the PSP, so I'm not going to count it, but damned if I wouldn't take another on a platform I actually own (or just port the PSP one to Steam since IIRC that one's pretty good). So, again, why should I care about FFVII getting a remake? The games I really want to see remade/sequelized/reimagined/EVEN JUST LOCALIZED? They're far behind Square-Enix and have no chance in hell to get remade. And that goes DOUBLE for Enix because I want a unified revisit of the Soul Blazer/IoG/Terranigma trilogy more than anything else. * * * That being said, I'm still going to pick it up - I didn't like VII for various reasons, and maybe the remake will actually be something I'm interested in. It'll bridge the universe closer to the expanded universe, and their own storytelling is already done so they can polish that up. Plus, a much improved translation will be very, VERY welcome. When they make Cloud sit down and drink his god damn tea, I really need the proper emotional conveying to be apparent here. 1997 Technology is not going to work. I need layers upon layers of emotional depth in Cloud's face as he solemnly obeys the order to drink his tea. I need to see it in his eyes. His lips. His heart. I need to see it all over his face. Am. Hype. As. Hell. Probably going to be peeved at Aerith (I am an Aeris guy. I know it was a mistranslation but idgaf; her name is Aeris.) in voiced dialogue, but it's like I'm a kid again. Last Guardian, Shenmue kickstarter, and FF7 PS4 remake. If I can get some Persona 5 footage before everything ends I will be completely and utterly finished. Link to comment

Funny, I had close to the exact opposite reaction to this. But mostly because I'm not a fan of her getting bigger boobs when they were perfectly fine before and the incredibly creepy angle they use for her pre-fight animation (seriously, that crotch shot is NOT an accident, people). Oh, and the fact that she still gratuitously wears a one-piece when there is absolutely no Earthly reason for her to be doing so. I can't take the character seriously because of things like this. And the guys never get that kind of treatment. It irritates me. If a guy ever gets a skin-tight crotch-and-ass shot in their pre-fight animation and it's not played for laughs I might change my tune, but otherwise... Well, I'll probably still play the game, but I won't play as Cammy. Or Chun-Li. Or, at the very least, use one of the alt costumes that are less ridiculous. I bet Sakura's gonna be back in and still wearing that silly school seifuku, despite being canonically middle-aged. lol. What a treat that'll be... But anyway. Yeah. FFVII. How many more years will we have to wait for this, I wonder? Heh. Gotta get KH3 and FFXV out the door first, I think. Hope it doesn't take too long for gameplay footage to surface. Link to comment

I'll probably play it on PC provided the port isn't a mess, just to see what they've done different, and hope that it being successful will ensure a remake of 6 or 9 in the coming years. But, given the whole popularity scale 8 will likely be the next in line... Which I will refuse to play as I found almost nothing redeeming about that title, save Triple Triad. Link to comment

I hope they keep the off-kilter charm of the original; if they tone that down in favor of constant brooding melodrama it'll kill my enthusiasm super fast. Let Aeris/th be the awesome saucy weirdo she was in the original and not the pure-hearted macguffin she is in everything else. Let Yuffie still be kind of an amoral asshole and not a generic genki girl, let Cloud go back to being that cocky goober who says shit like, "Shinra dog! I'm gonna dognap you!!" FFVII has the goofy distinction of being both under- and over- rated. It's a very flawed but uniquely cool game that's often misremembered, or remembered for the wrong reasons.
