Yeah, it's what I wanted to do when I originally created him. But I'm OOCly too uncomfortable to RP beyond the flirting, so that is why I wanted him to fail at it. But it doesn't work, and the person my character hits on gets condescending, and then she wants to get physical and...

...and then I have to figure out to get the hell out of there, because I don't want to RP that stuff >_< ....

There are real guys who are exactly the same.  Unexpected success can make for fun and awkward situations at the same time!

And sometimes you'll find someone who's just happy to flirt back :-]

On the flip side, I wouldn't mind pushing for romantic partners for my characters... but I don't want it to be the sole drive and would like something like that to happen naturally. I just... don't know how to go about it and I'm actually stymied by the fact that everyone else seems to pair up so easily. xD

Which I guess ties a bit into aforementioned peeves about relationships developing so quickly. Things already seemed to move a bit fast in the relationships Chachan has had (albeit I didn't help much in slowing it down)... but it's like someone else said, you'd see a couple pair up and be wed in under a month. I can only wonder how deep the relationship between the newly wedded couple is when it's pushed that fast (though I'll admit I could understand if it was an OOCly planned "love at first sight" sort of deal).

On Val's note, another thing I'm reminded of as a RP pet peeve is the impossibility to RP a fail casanova. It must be because this game really offers no way to be physically unattractive, but single people just will not reject me if I try to RP a fail casanova.

No matter how bad-mouthed, sexist, jerk and overall asshole I make Clive, if I try make him flirt with someone who isn't in my circle of friends (who know he's supposed to be a fail casanova), he'll always succeed and never get a no. It's... frustrating. Is it a case of people having very low standards for partners, or do I just RP a fail casanova wrong? Who knows...

Really? I seem to encounter the opposite more often. Men who try really hard to portray their characters as casanova/charming/sexy and more often than not come across as, and I will apologize for the term, "fuckbois". There's no bigger cringe RP to me than the gentleman/woman who tries SO hard to make their males appealing that they miserably fail. Too many stereotypical Thancred-wannabes (And personally, I don't really find Thancred that charming to begin with.)

People seem to LOVE playing the "I'm a sexy bad boy and I'm a total asshole but love me" trope. I hate it with passion. Some people can pull it off, but more often than not, they don't.

To be fair, he's certainly had no shortage of prospects ^_^' I admit the idea that there are a lot of unattached characters surprises me, as I see lots of love on wiki pages, so I got the impression there were few unpaired. I tend to have other plans so I'm not eager to let ikemen catboy 2306 put the moves on my precious dumpling that easily, but I'm not totally opposed to it outright if there's sufficient ic reason. (Though lalas thankfully aren't usually in demand.) still, I thought romance was the primary focus for a lot of players

People who RP to win, not to tell a story.

This so much. This also includes people who see winning as writing 2000 word posts in a forum based RP.

Also there's people who don't separate what my RP character does to their character from who I am. It happened in my old FC and it wasn't pretty at all. (an ic ceremony of bonding happened, one guy fell in love with our leader's character....it was a hot mess)

I haven't RP'd with the masses in some time, but here we go. Some of this stuff is repeated.

-RP that just stands there. "MY CHARACTER IS TOO SHY/INTROVERTED/OTHERWISE ENGAGED WITH A BOOK TO TALK TO YOUR CHARACTER!" Well guess what, that means you get no RP. If you're standing there RPing with yourself, and my character has no reason to be interested in what your character is doing... nope, not happening. This RP ticks me off because usually these are the characters that will stand around and judge everyone around them, snooty characters who wonder why they have no friends. Usually OOCly they don't wonder, but the characters themselves are just.. rgh. Then my character, being interested in whatever book is being read, more or less gets told to shove off. What's the point?

-RPers who clearly, blatantly, even admit to blurring IC and OOC into one smudgy line then wondering why nobody wants to hang around their RP. Usually the RP isn't the problem, but my god when that RP becomes the problem it is a PROBLEM.

-Blind/deaf characters who can see/hear. Just why? :dazed: (looking at you MSQ)

- The DBZ gotta win every single encounter ever. Yeah, bar fights happen, they do. But not every alcoholic wins their battles. Especially if they've been chugging straight liquor all night.

- Starts with f ends with uta. Not going to elaborate that one.

- "Spys", who stand there and watch your character in emotes, only to run away scared/shy... then later whine about having no friends. Yes yes, being shy is totally endearing, but don't whine after you run away from someone waving and saying hello.

....I now realize why I don't get out and RP with randoms very often.

Let me add to this one... blind characters who make eye contact.  Know what I mean?  If you've ever met a blind person you'll know that they don't turn their head to face you while you talk (or at least no blind person I've ever met does).  You can have a more convincing portrayal of blindness if you resist the urge to "target focus" the person you're talking to and simply look in the direction your body is facing.

(I have to elaborate a little. The 'it's not gay if there's boobs' futas. I don't care if your character's a cross dresser, or is a female but uses a male model, or a male but uses the female model. Just.. the 'usual' cookie cutter of this fetish that's so IN YOUR FACE. Don't enjoy it.)

As someone who RPs a blind character, I'd like to make a couple comment on this. Just because a character is "target focusing" or has their head turned in the general direction of someone who is speaking does not mean necessarily mean that they are making direct eye contact and it shouldn't necessarily preclude their portrayal of a "convincing" blind character.

I cannot speak for others who RP a blind character, but for my character Burned Cypress, she was blinded during an incident that was ICly probably about a month ago (keeping track of exact timing in my RP is hard, lol). Even if she cannot see someone that she is talking to, it is still an ingrained motor reflex for her to turn her head towards a voice speaking to her or a particular sound that catches her attention. However, if there is a lot going on, or many people speaking she will usually just revert to her "neutral position".

As for blind and/or deaf characters that can still see and/or hear? It should be pointed out that people can be legally blind/deaf and still have some residual sight/hearing. Additionally, if a PC/Character is able to figure out a way to use magic/magitek/training/whatever in order to restore some amount of the missing sense, I say more power to them as long as its done well and really worked into the character. Such a thing can shape and inform a character in incredibly interesting and compelling ways.

One of my few pet peeves: Threads like this. Usually because they exist without (or get more attention than) threads about things people like.

There were a couple threads (probably more) about "what do you like of RP", they just tend to die quicker because well... it's a scientific fact that humans find negativity/complaints more amusing than happy/good things. It's why comedians like George Carlin existed and had success, it's why satire exists, it's why when you walk out of your home you will hear more people complaining about the shitty weather or politics than you'll hear people saying it's a very good day or how happy they are. There is nothing bad about it, it's just more entertaining.

(Also fun fact: venting/complaining/ranting/criticizing lenghtens your life span! Scientists say that it is a way to reduce stress on the brain and body, reducing occurrences of violence, rage, and stress-induced deterioration of the system! Stay cynical, stay healthy!)

If that's true, I'm going to live forever!

Things you will never hear my psychiatrist say when it comes to me.

Pet peeves?

When someone initiates or prompts the use of /random dice to determine outcomes in roleplay and then doesn't follow basic etiquette if they lose a roll, instead opting to powergame/godmod away your desired action after you yourself have already done THEM the courtesy of graciously accepting lost rolls to your own character's detriment.

It reeks of "I'm here to win, I won't give ground for the sake of story." Doesn't have to be conflict RP, either.

And whenever this happens, it makes me walk away each and every time.
