Z'ythe Solwind Posted July 23, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 23, 2015 To all RPers big and small, My name is Mikoto Kira the RP lead of Cerberus Industries. Over the years roleplaying has grown and evolved on our game especially Balmung to create one of the best RP communities available for MMORPGs. There are always ways to improve this. So today we propose a tag for us, something that we can do to show other roleplayers that we are in fact IC. If a player types /lfm (looking for meld) into their chatbox a symbol will appear beside their name for all to see. This Symbol is widely unused because it's more effective to ask a friend, use the player search, or shout chat. Seeing this symbol would let a fellow roleplayer know that you are in fact IC leading to more walk ups, and a more unified and varied community. Thank you all for your time, please post comments or suggestions in the comments below. If you happen to see a member of Cerberus (Tag: CBI) with the mark feel free to join in. Happy hunting, Mikoto Kira Cerberus RP Director Full credit for this idea goes to Xartsagajin Hotgo of CBI. Thank you for your wonderful idea! 8 Link to comment
Jerciex Posted July 23, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 23, 2015 *Give huge applauding* I LOVE THAT IDEA! This would give Rpers even greater change to spot other RPers! All Roleplayers aren't in FC with "-RP" in their FC-tag! Or have RPer in their search information! I will inform all my friends in game about this idea and asks their opinion! I am really grateful and you have my respect bringing this up! THere has been talks in FFXIV Offical forums about RP statue, but SE hasn't done anything to it.. alteast not yet. :bouncy: Link to comment
Altitis Acquired Posted July 23, 2015 Share #3 Posted July 23, 2015 /lfm... Looking For Mates... For mating... *wink wink* It's a cool idea though. I wonder if it catches on. I might do it. What symbol is it though? Link to comment
Kamome Posted July 23, 2015 Share #4 Posted July 23, 2015 I will start doing this and spread around the information. : ) What a brilliant and simple suggestion. : ) 1 Link to comment
Amielle Posted July 23, 2015 Share #5 Posted July 23, 2015 I love this idea! I've never seen that tag used anywhere, so why not re-appropriate it? Link to comment
Nebbs Posted July 23, 2015 Share #6 Posted July 23, 2015 Neat idea, I'll definitely push this in the LS I am in Link to comment
Blue Posted July 23, 2015 Share #7 Posted July 23, 2015 I have also been requesting for a "IC/RP" status icon to the developers via Live Letter questions and Leave a Suggestion feature in-game. I'd like to encourage as many of you to do the same. The louder we'll be, the more likely we will get our own status icon. Link to comment
Asmodean Posted July 23, 2015 Share #8 Posted July 23, 2015 A simple idea but a great one in my mind. I have never seen the /lfm symbol myself in game so it would be something we can put to good use until Square gives us an RP/IC one. Link to comment
Hali Posted July 23, 2015 Share #9 Posted July 23, 2015 That's brilliant! I love it! I will most certainly start doing this in the future, and will spread the word! =-D Link to comment
Gegenji Posted July 23, 2015 Share #10 Posted July 23, 2015 I'll definitely give this a shot. I've never seen people actually use Looking for Meld, as you have said, so it's quite the ingenious little workaround. It'd be nice to see this become widespread enough that you can readily ID folks looking for some RP. Link to comment

Highlighting this since this would be very useful to get something more solid to work with. Yet until that happens (or if it doesn't) then the proposed idea works very well. I'll try and remember to toggle it on whenever I'm seeking random role-play! Link to comment
banndsand Posted July 23, 2015 Share #12 Posted July 23, 2015 I will certainly be doing this, as not all of my characters are even part of a FC. Thank you for this idea. Link to comment
Aaron Posted July 23, 2015 Share #13 Posted July 23, 2015 Wouldn't a lot of crafter's assume you're actually looking for a meld or would they just ignore it like how we ignore the shout chat a lot? 1 Link to comment
Sin Posted July 23, 2015 Share #14 Posted July 23, 2015 I hate to be the naysayer, but as the RPC is a small part of the community I just simply don't see this gaining a lot of traction with the whole community. It's not clear enough, and I can imagine myself walking around with a looking to meld sign and people just being confused as to whether I'm trying to RP or meld. It also doesn't provide much beyond what putting currently IC in my search box would do. 1 Link to comment
Lilia Lia Posted July 23, 2015 Share #15 Posted July 23, 2015 This is an excellent idea. I'm going to do that and see if I can set a trend inside my company. I have also been requesting for a "IC/RP" status icon to the developers via Live Letter questions and Leave a Suggestion feature in-game. I'd like to encourage as many of you to do the same. The louder we'll be, the more likely we will get our own status icon. This is very true. I'll have to do that also. The developers at least acknowledge that RPers exist since there's a "Roleplay" icon in the Free Company profiles to indicate which ones are roleplay companies. I'd think that a hefty part of their playerbase keeps renewing their subscription because they are RPers so it makes financial sense for them to at least throw us a bone once in a while. I've been in game for a year and a half and don't even know what it looks like. Didn't even know we had it. Link to comment
Gegenji Posted July 23, 2015 Share #17 Posted July 23, 2015 I remember seeing it when I was looking to get rid of the "New Player" sprout on Judge, but I'll be damned if I can remember what the symbol is. And having something to display is better than nothing, and if there's enough people using it for a RP flag "stand-in", it might push SE into thinking there's some merit into having an official one. Dare to dream, right? Link to comment
Addison Posted July 23, 2015 Share #18 Posted July 23, 2015 It's yellow. It's a good idea: I've seen this idea thrown around in various LS's. I'd also like to throw out that while RPC is a small fraction of the community, there's nothing from stopping people from spreading the word to various LS's. Heck even shout once in a while at hubs would work, I would think. Word of mouth is a powerful tool, and something as simple as this doesn't need a long explanation. And if people don't want to use it, no big deal. Link to comment

I'm a crafter and if I saw that icon I'd just think "what's that?" Because it's never used. Link to comment

If you could get a smaller RP circle using it as a way of signifying whether or not you're IC, then it becomes useful. If I am walking around my residential area and see a few friends of mine with "Currently IC" icons over their heads, then I'm more likely to stop in and see what's going on. And it does accomplish more because how often do you actually individually check up on people's search boxes? Link to comment

It's become a habit. But I wouldn't mind icons either, but if people don't use the tools they have now they most likely forget to use a new tool as well. I.E. If people forget they marked OOC/IC in their search box they most likely would forget to flag themselves as well. I'd still support the idea though, but I see it from both sides. 2 Link to comment
Flickering Ember Posted July 23, 2015 Share #22 Posted July 23, 2015 Conversely, I almost never look at search info. I always forget but there's only so many ways "Walk ups, welcome" can be worded anyway. It would be kind of nice if people put a brief tidbit about their character instead of "walk ups welcome." I'm probably not going to start random RP without finding a character hook of some sort first. 2 Link to comment
Gegenji Posted July 23, 2015 Share #23 Posted July 23, 2015 It would be kind of nice if people put a brief tidbit about their character instead of "walk ups welcome." I saw Jancis doing this and I've kinda started doing it myself. Gogon especially doesn't actually even state walk-ups welcome, even if I am always up for RP. I might start doing the same with Judge and Chachan to add more fun tidbits with the extra space... so having another way to mark "Hey, come play with me!" would always be appreciated. ... Especially since I have "In Armor = IC" for Judge, but I'm expecting at some point for him to actually get out of his armor and show off that grandpa outfit I put together for him. Link to comment

I'm probably not going to start random RP without finding a character hook of some sort first. Not a bad idea! Though, if I place myself for random RP I tend to make a few solo posts to give people hooks. If there's someone I see with 'walk ups welcome' and I want to find out more, I poke them via whispers! Some people have even done the same for me. It all works! Link to comment
