Final Fantasy VII Remake Gameplay

Let the purist fanboys rage. This looks wonderful.

I'm not sure how not wanting to shell out possibly $60.00 (Just a guess on price, this may be cheaper.) multiple times to finish a single game makes one a purist fanboy...

I'd rather wait longer and get a complete game, than pay for installments to have it quicker.

This is likely what I'll do anyways wait til it's all done and get some sort of package deal if one ever exists.

They have stated, that they are going to be multiple, full sized games. If you've never heard of Xenosaga 1,2,and 3. Or the .hack games. They're doing that approach. So as to make all of FF7's old content in full with little to no cuts.

Yeah but I already own FF7 with no cuts in one game. Shiny new graphics and game engine doesn't excuse making this into multiple games. I'm not buying that excuse from SE.

It sounds like an excuse to get the game out earlier and get as much money as possible for it just like Starcraft 2.

I'll be waiting on more information before passing any major judgements. If they go all out and release the core game, upgraded, without any major content being cut then I'll be very happy - since that will ensure that nothing iconic is removed. Perhaps we'll even get a lot of new content to help flesh out the game world and expand upon some of the plot threads that didn't get a real resolution.

The installment method hasn't always been awful, you know. Resident Evil made pretty good use of it recently, and the aforementioned .hack and Xenosaga series was done that way too. Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons also comes to mind.

In general, unless you're linking a source alongside the decrying a price tag or content, it's just internet noise and vitriol. That isn't to say that folks might be wrong about it, but...

Well, the people already checking out were only looking for reasons to bitch about it. Otherwise they'd be, you know, waiting for concrete details before leaping to a conclusion.

That's mostly what I'm expecting.

It seems silly to split the game if they weren't adding in a lot of content, unless the development team is so small and underfunded, that they literally need the profits made from the first "episode" to fund the later ones. (But for a company like SE, this seems very unlikely).

Um no, some people have been burned to many times by companies pulling this shit so their a bit cynical. But what ever keep making assumptions it's what you do.

Edit- Admittedly that's what I'm doing as well, so pot meet kettle and all that I know.

Xenosaga being trash compared to Xenogears has no bearing on the fact that their 1 to 3 installments actually worked, though 3 took too long and released without much fanfare in NA (granted, 2 was... certainly a thing and part of the reason why the fanfare wasn't there).

In so far as installments are concerned... wasn't Life is Strange successful (except last chapter which released 1 month later than it was planned)? At least on the SE publishing side?

Oracles of Ages/Seasons was more of a Pokemon thing, just so you know.

Honestly I'm hoping for a whole lot of fleshing out. Give me all the lore details. I might hate the game and most of its characters but if they do that I'd certainly be interested.

The rest of that post was subjective, but you're objectively wrong here. Different games entirely.

Not how they were advertised, IIRC. They were also released at the same time.

Having not played them I wasn't aware. I was told they reused a lot of assets between two games and the gimmicks themselves didn't change much.

What Warren means is that the games -did- link up, but had entirely different mechanics, items, characters and stories until you hit that special new game + linked + beaten on the other new game + linked stage.

Ah, got me there technically. They did come out together, but they were self-contained games with link capability. They reused some generic assets that were in Link's Awakening but for the most part they had little in common. Not even recycled bosses or dungeons if I remember correctly, since the treasures between games also varied.

My biggest worry is that introducing a different system from the original is that ff7 is MASSIVE and retooling EVERY SINGLE FIGHT option or no is a grand undertaking and it may be

MUCH easier to trim a lot of fat and exclude a lot of fluff features and the sort. Like, what if they just shut out Wutai entirely? what if they reduce the number of turks fights? What if some bosses are cut out because they won't gel with the new system.

that's my biggest worry is that they'll stream line the game. I want my 3 disc madness.

Optimistically however, we end up with a entirely remade FF7 where I'll play the game JUST to see how in the hell they decided to rework fight x or y.

The multi-installment thing makes me a little upset only because it looks like a blatant cash grab.

There has been no mention of why they're doing it, other than:

"If we dedicated our time to a single release, parts of it would become summarized. We’d have to cut some parts, and additional parts would come in few, so rather than remake the game as a full volume, we decided to do multiple parts."

I would love it if this means they're going to flesh out certain things, making them more interesting and lore-tastic. I still hope it does mean that. Unfortunately it likely means we're going to get a very pretty game that drops the slower story elements to get to action segments, likely skips things like Fort Condor's minigame, and a whole slew of $40+ FF7s to buy. The original game came as a complete package, and HD graphics are no excuse for not doing the same with the remake. What's wrong with a multi blu-ray game? Not much, unless you're trying to milk the hell out of it.

When you give zero details about what it means, other than people are going to be paying for an incomplete game, then you're bound to anger your fans. If this was the Square of FF7's original release... well I might believe them. Their recent missteps with FF13, FF15 taking forever, All the Bravest being a cash grab, and more make it hard to trust them. On top of this, they're doing the exact same thing with the new Hitman game. Granted, with Hitman, the subsequent releases are going to be free... but it's still worrying.

I'm going to withhold being angry or judgement on whether I'll buy the game or not until we get more details... but it is disheartening for a fan.
