Shoshopu Posted February 25, 2016 Share #26 Posted February 25, 2016 Overall it's an improvement, I suppose, but some of the new voices are like... objectively worse than before. I'll never not be mad about Raubahn's, ILBERD'S, Merlwyb's and Eynzahr's voices changing. I was very attached to them and the new folks didn't even try to sound like the old ones. (I remember I was seething over how awful new Raubahn sounded and I cried, "Why does he sound Scottish suddenly!" and Fyril leans over and he says to me, "He's a Highlander" and I turned around and threw something at him) I always wondered why 90% of the cast seemed to change all at once. So they swapped studios, huh. Link to comment

Ashe Posted February 25, 2016 Share #28 Posted February 25, 2016 I'm one of the few people that is able to enjoy some voices in every language. I have some faves in the German version, some in the English version and some in the Japanese version. However, it feels to me that the Japanese voices are more emotionally invested than the others. I don't want to spoil any scenes but those that have finished the Vault for example know what I'm talking about. Japanese voice actors have to go to school for voice acting specifically most of the time. These schools sometimes are connected to an agency... I have a few friends who are voice actors in Japan who are in a school for it. A lot of people prefer...Midorikawa's school...and a girl I don't like was rejected from his school and she totes deserved it >> They are trained specifically to to voice act. English voice actors are generally not. Link to comment
Shoshopu Posted February 25, 2016 Share #29 Posted February 25, 2016 Oh lord, the peeps who think the accents of Raubahn and Ilberd are Scottish... Well they!! Aren't!!! ... what they were like before! My hillbilly American ass thought it sounded vaguely Scottish. Just Raubahn's though. idk what's up with Ilberd's, but it's way worse compared to the awesome performance we got in A Realm Reborn's finale. What accent is it supposed to be? Link to comment
Val Posted February 25, 2016 Share #30 Posted February 25, 2016 honestly I'm not impressed with the voice acting. Not because JAPANESE IS OBVIOUSLY SUPERIOR~ *gag* but just because nothing really stands out as stellar performance. Granted, I'd say the reason for that is 80% I loathe the writing in the game. I have to agree with Kellach here. To me, the VA is just atrocious and I can't stand it. It's better than some, but it makes me cringe every time I hear it. Part of it could be, like Kellach mentioned, that I think the writing/script they're given in general is pretty abysmal. iskipcutscenesbecauseihatethestoryandthevoiceactinginthemisawful Link to comment

Ha'uruh Nunh Posted February 25, 2016 Share #32 Posted February 25, 2016 I've always used the Japanese voices to match the aesthetic. Regarding the names - I ran into an "Aymeric" at work today or yesterday and was surprised to see it was an actual French name. May have been the far right politician. Link to comment
Dravus Posted February 26, 2016 Share #33 Posted February 26, 2016 Agreed, much better this time round. Was really nice to hear more authentic accents. But please bring back Gideon Emery, hnnnnghh. As much as I like Gideon Emery I feel like he's a tad overused. He's not necessarily worth the money, either, I feel. He's a great voice actor, sure - but the 'big names' are no doubt very expensive. I feel like the current batch of voice actors are just as immersive and I'd hazard a guess that they're better value for money too. Plus I've sort of been soured by Gideon voicing too many elves across a number of games. He has a very distinct voice, too, so I can't help but think of Balthier whenever I hear him speak. They generally do a pretty good job at using french names, albeit most of the time, not standard run of the mill ones. Either more medieval ones, and especially celtish inspired names from Brittany. Aymeric has german roots though. Link to comment
Enla Posted February 26, 2016 Share #35 Posted February 26, 2016 I like most of them, but then there's a few that just... Hurt to listen to. Merlwyb being the biggest example for me. Link to comment

GhostlyMaiden Posted February 26, 2016 Share #37 Posted February 26, 2016 The Admiral's voice was perfect still pissed about her being changed. I think myself, and everyone else here shares your same anger. If I recall, even with the new voice, Kan-E-Senna still sounds terrible. >.< Link to comment
Valence Posted February 26, 2016 Share #38 Posted February 26, 2016 I don't share that anger... She might underwhelming compared to the old one (probably the only good one in 2.0), but i'm okay with it, the new performance is decent to me. Link to comment
Tortles Posted February 26, 2016 Share #39 Posted February 26, 2016 Ser Aymeric's English voice too sexy to not listen to, srry. Link to comment
Steel Wolf Posted February 27, 2016 Share #40 Posted February 27, 2016 Aymeric's VA put in an outstanding performance for this patch. His speech was stirring and his conviction and warmth were apparent through the entire thing. He sounded like a general and a patriot. Link to comment
Sunwins Posted February 27, 2016 Share #41 Posted February 27, 2016 Agreed Aymeric's VA is amazing I love him. I could listen to him read a phonebook. I'm not a huge fan of Minfilia and Alphinaud's voices, it took me a long time to digest Minfilia, and I still wince every time Alphinaud opens his mouth. His voice just strikes me as far too deep/refined for his teenage appearance - srry Alphie. Link to comment
Valence Posted February 28, 2016 Share #42 Posted February 28, 2016 I for one find Aymeric voice really... out of place. He sounds (and looks) more like a posterboy model with vaguely (and annoyingly) sexual overtones to me. Not especially the charisma I would expect of a commander. Don't get me wrong though, I don't find it bad. I think the dubbing is quite good, just not always fitting at all. But I think that's more the character that is not fitting to his role than anything else. Link to comment
