Madda Posted September 13, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 13, 2014 Let's share some neat things about our characters that they do in their day-to-day like in....Where are we again? Fated Sky - Fated as a preference for men with bulging muscles that is almost counts as a borderline fetish. When coming across a man with an admirable set of pecs, the female will find herself in awe, unable to resist tracing her hand along them and rubbing them. - Fated also seems to have an affinity for collecting stuffed animals of all shapes and sizes. She keeps this very secret, and will usually hug one if its within her grasp. Sanche Cartwright - Sanche was born with a severe stutter, and prefers to stay silent for most of her time. While she tries to stay social, she will not talk unless necessary. Link to comment
Verad Posted September 13, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 13, 2014 It would honestly be faster to post the parts of Verad that aren't quirky, but: -As is well-known by a number of people by now, he makes a specific point of ordering the worst drink a bar can serve to him before he drinks anything else. Not only does this make his next drink taste much better by comparison, but it gives him a sense of the bartender's personality based on what they consider the worst drink in the building. -He is a surprisingly decent sketch artist; the self-portraits that he used as placeholders when he used to sell lockets are all done by his own hand. -He actually doesn't like Cactuars all that much - they're creepy and they move weird and they never talk - but his Cactuar-related ventures have moved so much product that he feels compelled to keep relying on them. Delilah Scythewood Posted September 13, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 13, 2014 I'm going to stick with my main, Lilithium Altair, since I play her more often then not! -She has her neck covered more often then not, even if it's just with a collar accessory or high collar shirt. The reason for this is because of a rather absurd sensitivity she has there and how it makes her feel vulnerable to have it exposed, almost like an animal. -For someone so soft spoken and kind and polite, she has very scratchy penmanship. The Queen of Chickenscratch! -Like above, for someone so sweet she certainly has a lot of...hardcore piercings. 90 percent of which are in places one cannot see. Link to comment
Val Posted September 13, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 13, 2014 Val Nunh Val speaks with a slight slur, as most people know. This is because he grew up as a tribal Miqo'te and spoke their own language without having a lot of outside influence. His travels eventually took him to Gridania and, from there, he stowed aboard an airship to Limsa. He picked up bits and pieces of dialogue from Gridania and, knowing at least to communicate via basic language, fell in with a gang of thieves/cutthroats/whatever in Limsa. That's more or less where everything fell in. He picked up their way of speech and it ended up slurring together with his own lack of knowledge to create Valspeech. He doesn't do metaphors. I assure you that I've done this looong before Guardians, and it's usually caused some very interesting and humorous RP. He can't count or write very well. He's in the process of learning, but he's purposely halting ever fully learning. Why? Because he likes seeing Faye laugh and smile when she tries to read the notes he secretly sends to her, and doesn't want to lose that connection between them. You'd also have to kill him to ever get him to admit any of that. When he's nervous, he rubs the back of his head. Sometimes he really knows what he's talking about when he acts dumb. He just likes to antagonize people, and it's the only way he can keep doing so without Faye catching on and reprimanding him for it. He's smarter than he looks! Link to comment
E'irawen Posted September 13, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 13, 2014 K'aworu Demiir - He prefers flat, hard surfaces to sleep on and really, really dislikes mattresses. He also likes to hide in cupboards. He is allergic (though not lethally) to chocolate. He also has a severe weakness for well built builds and is distracted very, very easily by them. Ophelia de Winter - She's terrified of heights, regardless of what she says. "English" (Eorzean, whatever) is not her first language and sometimes she has issues putting together the proper words that she means. She speaks with a fairly heavy Scottish accent. She uses dancing as a form of combat and one time it lead to her punting a small tonberry like a football. Link to comment
Lan Darklyn Posted September 13, 2014 Share #6 Posted September 13, 2014 Lan has a fair number of quirks, but I'll keep the list down to the ones that people are most likely to notice. Lan will often chew on his bottom lip when deep in thought, and if the thought is particularly worrisome his right ear will twitch. Lan very, very rarely goes into public without being fully clothed, getting him to go to the beach is like pulling teeth. That being said, in private he usually wears only, trousers or shorts. If he is working out and thinks so one is looking he might remove his shirt. Whiskey is something considers a bane to his existence. Whiskey changes his behavior and has lead to a few moments in his past that were quite emberassing so he avoid the stuff like the plague. Kylar's major quirks are: He will go unclothed or at least shirtless if at all possible. This goes against most people's image of him as just being a nerdy researcher. That being said, he knows poper attire is needed. Kylar loves to drink, and he will drink anything from the nastiest, rust removing moonshine, to the most expensive of aged fine wines. He has been known to drink in excess. When observing people, sometimes Kylar will see them as subjects to research and speak of them as such. Link to comment
Ciel Posted September 13, 2014 Share #7 Posted September 13, 2014 Ciel's quirks: *She likes to go outside and sing while facing the rising and setting sun. That is providing the weather is clear, and she's awake when the sun comes up. *It seems to rain frequently wherever she goes, and some of her comrades have taken to teasing her for driving it away at a whim. This is purely coincidental and not something she is actually capable of doing. *She hides emotional hurt and disappointment with humor, most of the time. Often this comes in the form of viscious teasing for whoever she feels has let her down. Any other outward expression related to this is kept until she moves behind closed doors. *HATS! And I blame Rock Shattermountain for this, since he gave me the idea. Ciel collects fancy hats and loves matching them to a new outfit or dress. *She can crack fine glass (i.e. wine glasses) with her voice, and may shatter them if she feels so inclined. Link to comment
Erik Mynhier Posted September 13, 2014 Share #8 Posted September 13, 2014 Erik never uses contractions in speech or in writing. Link to comment
Chika Ito Posted September 13, 2014 Share #9 Posted September 13, 2014 Chika has a lot... She hates getting her ears wet. Often when it rains you'll see her flicking her ears back and forth to clear the water off of them. Sailing, and boats she cannot stand. Chika gets horrid sea sickness. ADORES wearing her Choral Chapeau. It is her beloved hat, and she is almost seen with it on when out in public. Despite having money, generated by her business 'Sew Beautiful', she doesn't buy butcher meat. Instead she always goes out and hunts for her lover, and their kids. A majority of her back is covered in whip lash scars. Healed over with time, but are no longer fading. Chika can draw fairly well actually. Sketching is one of her talents. She was taught how to by the weavers in Ul'dah, for tailoring purposes of course. But has since branched outward in drawing. She has even done a nude of her lover. While she can read, she cannot read large descriptive words. So you'll hardly ever catch a book in her hands that doesn't have weaving patterns in it. Her lover is actually teaching her how to read more. Being a mother of four children she's learned to have a lot of patience....with kids. Her tolerance for the ignorance, and immaturity, of some full grown adults annoys the piss out of her to no end. Has an incredibly short temper with adults. Cannot use her Aether due to the choker around her neck. She has many more, and I could spend all day doing this, but I won't ^^ Link to comment
TheLastCandle Posted September 13, 2014 Share #10 Posted September 13, 2014 Oh, why not. A few things you may not know about Yve, even if you think you know him: Yvelont Navarre * Having spent several years outside of Ishgard, he has grown accustomed to the speech patterns of Gridanians and makes an effort to hide his accent. In the presence of certain individuals (or when under duress) the facade slips and his manner of speaking changes to what some have called "flowery" language. (See: any number of Ishgardian NPCs.) * Often spends days at a time in the untamed areas of the Black Shroud. Though not unwashed when he can help it, he is often unshaven and his clothes have the appearance of having been mended by hand countless times. * While certainly not a bard by any stretch, he is a fairly talented lutenist - a gift he is slow to share with others. * Although outwardly calm in the most dire of circumstances, the reality is that Yvelont is headstrong and ruled by his emotions. Left unchecked, he will throw himself without thought into danger for the sake of a loved one or a trusted comrade. Link to comment
ZindelloTarantella Posted September 13, 2014 Share #11 Posted September 13, 2014 Tarot has a lot of quirks--the question is which ones are real and which ones are practiced? Always has a way of turning the conversation back towards money. Talks to himself occasionally as if there was another person there. HATES Coblyns. All those legs and their static electricity pisses him off. Is a pack-rat that picks up anything he finds interesting or that may turn a profit (but more often than not the former). Link to comment

SayonaraRevival Posted September 13, 2014 Share #13 Posted September 13, 2014 will I remember these for very long? I hope so. sometimes I forget about my own characters' details/quirks D: ❧ Asten tends to refer to herself as 'this one' sometimes, though other times using 'me/myself/I' instead. Gee, I wonder where she picked up this habit? ❧ She was taught to read on the same few books, plus her mentor's handwriting, so while she is mostly literate, she might not have accurate spelling on those long words. ❧ What is personal space? Asten doesn't know the answer to that one. Most of the time, she doesn't have any reason to get that close, but at the same time, most others don't give her any reason to, either. ❧ Tends to prefer to take small naps throughout the day if she has to be up before late afternoon. Daylight tires her out easily, as a Keeper. Thus, if she is in a town at daytime, she usually takes at least one nap somewhere (whether in an inn, on a ledge, or otherwise outside.) ❧ Was taught not to discriminate in using healing conjury; she may revere the elementals just like anyone else, but it doesn't stop her from healing those that the elementals haven't approved to live in the Shroud -- or even asking. This also leads to that she would be likely to heal anyone who is wounded, even Garleans (although if they have their fancy armor suits on, it's a little hard to help them.) * ❧ Like her mentor, Asten is honest to a fault, not hesitating to spout her opinion on something, even though the majority of those she speaks with don't even want her opinion. * It's worth noting that someone who is obviously Garlean, or has mentioned being Garlean, would still be watched carefully. She does hold a much smaller amount of bias against them due to being raised outside of public influence for the most part -- but wouldn't know who is who in their society, so she would judge them based on their outward actions. Lady Rivienne Posted September 13, 2014 Share #14 Posted September 13, 2014 What a fun little thread --! Rivienne always speaks eloquently, no matter what situation she is placed in. She tends to be verbose, at times, speaking in a poetic prose reminiscent of olden days. She has little qualms in broaching another's personal space, as far as touching them to having ilms separating their faces. However, such does not go both ways. Her love for combat knows little limits, at times she relishes the potential danger before her and throws caution to the wind. The adrenaline rush is her fuel. Link to comment

allgivenover Posted September 13, 2014 Share #16 Posted September 13, 2014 - Shortly after launch Deirdre broke Rakka'li's nose. It healed up fine but ever since then he's taken to rubbing the bridge of his nose habitually. - He dozes off during the day frequently, often in public places. This is more to do with having to be out and about during the daytime as a Keeper than it is a personal quirk though. Link to comment
Aya Posted September 13, 2014 Share #17 Posted September 13, 2014 Quirks huh? Hmmm... Aya speaks with an obvious Ishgardian accent that she rarely, if ever, tries to obscure (and when she does try to obscure it, she does a bad job of it). To Ishgardians her accent sounds a little off, due to the affects of her family's Ala Mhigan accents. She does not like responsibility, she tends to avoid anything that either makes her responsible for other people, or that leave other people depending upon her. That's not to say that she's unreliable, but she would rather have it not matter She does quite a few other little things for Momodi outside of being a barmaid, including visiting the market to buy spices and ingredients for specials, as well as helping come up with the special dishes they make. She loves the market, and can be found there most mid-mornings. She spends much of her free time every day engaged with exercise, meditation, or dance practice. Since she works evenings and nights, most of her free time is during the late morning and the afternoon. She has seven piercings in each ear, four along the upper side, and three along the lower - six of the seven usually bear studs that she changes the color of to reflect her mood, or to go with whatever outfit she is wearing. The final piercings, in her lobe, she wears whatever her character model is wearing. She also has a pierced naval, which she loves to show off. She is taller than her character model, being (actually) a Highlander who stands at 5' 10". She prefers heeled shoes (and boots) over flats, and most always wearing something with a 2-4" heel. She is almost always smiling. It is a genuine smile - not just one she wears for work Link to comment
Dat Oni Posted September 13, 2014 Share #18 Posted September 13, 2014 Edgar Von Gandervalt: Edgar has a pseudo-animated doll by the name of Shan-Shan. The name was given to it by Ed himself when he first got the doll as a child; as he puts it, "I was barely forming words at the time." The doll's interior is not stuffed, but rather contains a multitude of gears, servos, and other salvaged devices cleansed of impurities and engraved with runes. Shan-Shan has a sleep mode and an awake mode, activated by a windup key, and her "brain" is actually powered by the very same Topaz and Emerald that Edgar used to summon Carbuncle before moving on to his array of Egi. Shan-Shan believes she is as alive as anyone else, exuding an intelligence that is capable of learning. When she is about to have the windup key removed, Edgar tells her it is time for bed; Shan-Shan has associated this deactivation with sleeping, and sees no disparity between it and normal states of sleep that actual living beings go through. Like a computer, she recalls information despite being turned off periodically. Secretly, Edgar is dead-set on finding a way to give her an actual soul, as without one, he says, she cannot technically be considered living. Jajara Jara, a Dunesfolk and good friend, went through the process of having Edgar adopted into her family. Edgar being only 23 while Jara is 29, she is essentially his older sister, now. Explaining this is never easy for him. Despite his name, Edgar is not Garlean, nor is he attempting to reference Garlemad. Although it is true Garlean names use Preposition, it's merely coincidental that his name has a Garlean ring to it. Edgar Von Gandervalt is also NOT Edgar's actual name. Edgar's true birth name uses naming conventions from both Seekers and Keepers, as his mother was a Keeper and his father a Seeker. It is Z'sira'a Tordone. Broken down, it means he is the first born child of Z'Tal Tia and Sira Tordone. Ed has a partly-metal lower jaw. A devastating punch from S'honji shattered it, and when healing magic could not fix it entirely, Ed used his knowledge of alchemy to synthesize a form of liquid titanium that would "set" in place when exposed to Physick. He injected this substance into 4 locations in his lower jaw. The plan worked, but it can be a bit uncomfortable at times. Koporo Aporo: Kopo has an amazing sense of balance and excellent climbing skills. When he still lived in the caravan Great Berimu, he would often climb the sides of the enormous beast that the Clan had affixed their homes to, get on its back, and balance his way onto the creature's head, where he would lay back and stare at the sky. Kopo's name, at first, appears to use Plainsfolk naming conventions. This is because Kopo found that non-Lalafells had a tough time pronouncing his full name, Koporopo Aporopo, without stammering. In an attempt to make it easier to pronounce, he removed the "po's" from the ends of his first and last name. Unsurprisingly, this solved nothing, and so Koporo simply insists that people just call him Kopo. Link to comment
Conchris Posted September 13, 2014 Share #19 Posted September 13, 2014 Quirks... quirks... quirksquirksquirks... I think I know of some. William likes to fidget... a lot. To the point that it's more of a tic than something that he does nervously. He tends to react to praise (or being called 'cute') with a blush, a glance away, hands behind his back, swaying shyly. He has a tendency to pronounce certain words slowly, either because they're a bit long (in the case of words like 'thaumaturgy') or he's thinking deeply about something (in the case of words such as 'maybe' or 'probably') He tends to be a wee bit absent-minded too, usually. He prefers being honest over lying to someone, as he finds it very difficult to lie in the first place without feeling awful about it. He has a slowly developing fear of heights or, to be more specific, fear of heights in places where there isn't much room to manoeuvre. (He isn't going to be an acrobatic anytime soon.) Leanne Posted September 13, 2014 Share #20 Posted September 13, 2014 Lemme think about good ones. Leanne's hair is actually very long. Everyday after waking up (in case she didn't sleep on the road), she goes through a rather long process to tie up and braid her hair into a more manageable size. And also has to constantly trim her hair, else it will grow out of control! Leanne has a deep connection with 6 belongings. Her earrings, given as a present from Yangh, and a symbol of their bonding. Her old, big journal, depicting ALL you can imagine from her adventures. Her bow-harp and bard soulgem, gifted to her by her teacher when she started her life as a Bard. The bow gifted by her for he continued services in Mor Dhona. And most important of all, her Fancy Hat, a simply accessory she bought on the road, that from nowhere became a important part of Leanne, becoming practically her symbol, a nickname of hers being Leanne of the Fancy Hat. You see a fancy hat? The chances are, you saw Leanne. She fancies herself to be a hat enthusiast. Besides the Fancy Hat, she has an assortment of different hats stashed, coif, bandanas, you name it, she might have it! Same treatment goes to her boots! One of the most important accessories travelers need to worry about, is about their traveling footwear! She makes sure to only choose the best in the market in traveling boots, price as of late being no problem. Link to comment

DreamedReality Posted September 13, 2014 Share #22 Posted September 13, 2014 If there is alcohol being served in the area Jaques's gaze tends to wander towards it at intervals. Has never used his last name. He hates the titles 'master' 'madamme' and 'mistress.' It's a sure way to get him to seethe. He hates brothel owners/pimps and even though they do pay their whores... he views them as little better than slavers. If you see him he more than likely has a scowl on his face. Even when he isn't precisely angry. And unless you're a person he's come to trust or decided to be more open with, you likely will not see much emotion aside from anger in his features. It makes for a pretty good poker face. He angers easily and is often the emotion that rises to cover other ones. Is fairly well spoken for a warrior type and has a very 'neutral' accent. Not really fitting with any area of Eorzea in particular or even the known surrounding accents of neighboring countries. Although if he's stressed or drunk... there are some very distinct french-esque notes in his deep voice. Quite enjoys gambling. Or at least the atmosphere that such an event tends to create so he never really gets involved in anything with particularly high stakes. He can be seen throwing a few rounds of dice with the refugees and bums in the alleyways around the Rose. Link to comment
Zyrusticae Posted September 13, 2014 Share #23 Posted September 13, 2014 When he's nervous, he rubs the back of his head. ... I do this IRL. A LOT. So anyway. T'rahnu. Okay: ❧ She is an absolute tomboy and a thorough pragmatist. Such is her level of androgyny that she is often mistaken at first sight as a boy or young man, at least until she opens her mouth. ❧ Her accent is unplaceable. While she grew up mostly in the company of her tribespeople, her constant traveling for the last decade or so has seen her pick up a number of local mannerisms subconsciously. ❧ She is EXTREMELY proud of her body, considering it literal perfection, and as such she is wont to show it off. This often clashes with other peoples' ideas of beauty, particularly when it comes to her, ahem, lack of assets. ❧ She is unnervingly skilled at copying others' movements, to the point where she can pick up on combat styles just by seeing them performed in front of her. She will sometimes make use of this just to annoy or discomfort others. ❧ She thinks very little of coin, but still accumulates quite a bit of gil - just to be on the safe side. This gives her a lot of freedom when it comes to where she can travel. ❧ She is a big fan of Kan-E-Senna. This is literally the only reason she signed up for the Yellow Serpents. The nifty weapons are just a side benefit. ❧ While she does possess the Echo and is technically a Warrior of Light, any help she proffers to the Scions tends to be of the "I just happened to be in the area and it looks like you could use a problem-solver..." bent. She answers calls to action on her linkpearl very infrequently. She'll also get the heck out of dodge if she deems the situation outside of her control (which, granted, is a pretty rare occurence). ❧ Speaking of the Echo, she does not advertise her status as a Warrior of Light whatsoever (so I'll know if you're metagaming ). In fact, given what she knows of the Ascians, she prefers that as few people know of this as is humanly possible. This facet of her personality can be infuriating for others who wish for her to use her gifts for good. She doesn't care. She just wants to wander. Let other Warriors of Light take the spotlight if they're so inclined. Link to comment
FreelanceWizard Posted September 13, 2014 Share #24 Posted September 13, 2014 L'yhta: Loves jellied and candied fruits, and usually keeps a pouch of them on her at all times for random snacking. Treats gil and money like they're unfortunate and largely meaningless side effects of civilization, and lets her personal assistant, Volkido Tekido, handle her finances. She never knows how much gil she has, how much artifacts she finds sell for, and how much she gets paid for her services, and she almost always operates using letters of credit drawn on Lominsan trade houses and banks (and sometimes a pouch of gil that's far too full for any sane person to carry, or that's completely empty). Gets fidgety if she has to stay in one place for too long, unless she's engrossed in something or someone employs her "off switch" (which is, naturally, redacted here ) Still has a relatively weak notion of personal space and, due to her tribal upbringing, a weak notion of modesty, and has been known to hang around the Tower offices and dormitory nude and give naked hugs to other Wizards (often leading to considerably awkward situations). Crunchtastically forcefully smashes adjectives together to describe her and her friends' perceived greatness. Often temporarily picks up the speech patterns and accents of those she's around regularly, including beast tribes, sailors, and the like. Is nowhere near as confident as she claims to be. C'kayah Polaali Posted September 13, 2014 Share #25 Posted September 13, 2014 C'kayah: Drinks like a fish. Whereas most Miqo'te have furred ears and tails, I'm sure C'kayah also has a furred liver. Purrs. Not in the cat sense, but he tends to modulate his voice to make it very silky and rich. He's aware that his voice is his greatest tool, and he exercises great care with it. Much to Osric's irritation. Is a compulsive flirt. He used to be a compulsive womanizer, but it's possible he's settling down a bit. Not much, but a bit. Which leads to... ...he can be easily manipulated by a pretty face. Link to comment
