  1. You Miqote do have a few tomboy options already in the game though, I think Hyur females who are tomboys are very much screwed. (Luckily, my girl is extremely girly)
  2. Correction: Balmung is not exclusively roleplaying, like at all. It's just as PvE oriented as any other server.
  3. I'm not sure I can go into detail due to NDA? I'm not sure what their NDA is. There are a lot of design decisions in the game that are frustrating at best and unplayable at worst. Yeah that Character Creation is LAUGHABLE
  4. I had Armi in a semi-relationship with a guy who was played by a girl. Gender don't matter. It's RP.It would be fnatasticly weird and counterproductive to only be able to play your age, sex, relative personality or anything like that.
  5. Wildstar was a completely disappointing experience. *sigh* I was so hoping it was gonna be good.
  6. There's no need for this, No one is white knighting. Hostility doesn't breed healthy discussion.
  7. Scholars were part of the Nym military, which is an ancient civilization and no longer exists. You can be whatever you want when you find the tablet.
  8. I play Armi as a traditional Bard - she sings and stuff and just happens to use a bow. You know... I haven't actually thought about whether or not she is FFXIV's version of a bard - with magic songs or whatever. I'm going to say no. She's just a stereotypical Bard like thing who happens to use a bow. Loki is, at present, an Arcanist. My original plan was to make her a Summoner - my FC has even fought Garuda once ICly (And was shocked to live to tell the tale!) with her in the party but I haven't had her make that conversion yet. Honestly, the more I think about it, the more uncomfortable I am with it. It feels really special snowflakey to have had to maneuver so much around the the lore just to get her to be a SMN. I mean, it's still possible, but I just haven't pressed the button yet. I want it to be a natural transition and not "HA HA I'M A SUMMONER NOW" The Jobs are supposed to be Rare - I treat them as exceedingly rare. My problem is I don't like playing characters who sit too far out of the box in specialness - which means most of my characters will not have the Jobs ICly. I really believe if you have to force specialness on your character to make them special, then they aren't that interesting in the first place. Armi and Loki are normal everyday girls who weird, abnormal things happen to and people find them interesting with knowing they are the only White Mage or the greatest Monk ever. Also relics may be "copies" but they are built with the originals as a base, aren't they? He basically just reconstructs the broken relic into what he thinks it should look like.
  9. ^ IT's going to be both. A personal apartment in 2.3 and then your own house shortly after. There was an article the other day that said this: As for personal housing, you’ll need a level 50 character and get up to a certain rank in the Grand Company. This will be introduced sometime after the Free Company’s personal rooms are made available in Patch 2.3, and the size will be a little larger than the ones at the inns. The prices will be around 850,000 gil, which Yoshida says might be a bit too much, so it could be lower. Read more at http://www.siliconera.com/2014/05/01/final-fantasy-xiv-realm-reborns-marriage-system/#7JP7MTH5PttrsQw0.99 850k, if they all aren't one size, is probably for the small house. I have enough for the medium house on Armi, though if I wanted to push it I could get her the large. That's of course they don't decide housing is going to be all small houses only. Loki is more of an apartment girl so my plan for her is to live off the FC house. I'm not sure if the apartment is the same price? It's not clear if they are charging for the FC apartment at all. Anyway, it doesn't really bother me, the price. Shockingly, there aren't THAT many money sinks in this game and unless you're burning through all the crafts like a boss you're just not spending your money (I have one craft to 50, and I mostly just sit on the money I make if I'm not donating to the Guild Bank) so it does not surprise me at all that housing is going to be the big money sink for people. Other games that have Free Housing probably have other money sinks at the end of the game to compensate. This one really doesn't. It's also a little easier to make money now-a-days with the gil rewards FOR EVERYTHING, so I'm actually glad they gave us this much notice so people can save up if they want one.
  10. I wouldn't use the relic in your RP at all. There are SOME relics that say there are multiple, but most there is only one.. plus making one would be nigh impossible for anyone without the Echo. Running around stating you have the most legendary weapon ever is like running around in a Camelot MMO stating you own Excalibur. Replica's are fine, I see people say their relic is a replica all the time and that's totally realistic. Even stating what Denn said above and saying it's some kind of special weapon to you or whatever. There are a lot of ways around it. Do people actually come up to others and go "Is that a relic!?" ICly? I'm not even sure my characters would know what one looks like
  11. ^ To add, there isn't anything wrong with making your character a little special (Though I, personally, don't do that, I prefer my characters to be normal with special things happening around them) it really is how you play them. I know someone who plays a hearer, but it doesn't feel over the top or special snowflake-y - in fact most of his rp time is filled with headaches and when he tries to help people it's only when they ask him oocly and he always has some kind of balance to it (Memory loss, elementals mad, etcetc). That's fine. It's not something I'd ever do with my character, but it doesn't come across as special snowflakey to me at all. It's when you're good at everything. "I'm the best BLM, I'm the best WHM (>.>), I'm going to be the inventor of RDM~, Also I'm good with all the weapons, and know all the things." There's also something called the Anti-Mary Sue that you want to watch out for. It's being the victim all the time in order to garner sympathy for your character. Don't do that either, it's the exact same thing as above just in a different context. Not every stab wound need be life threatening (Especially with healers about), not every person need kidnap you, your life need not be in danger 24/7. The above is coming from me - whose character has been stabbed a lot, kidnapped twice, and can be damseled sometimes. There's a fine line and sometimes even I fear I cross it (Is 6 stabbings in 7 months too much? Probably, but most of them weren't planned! Or any of them...)
  12. ^ Some people roll dice to determine everything in a battle, which still gives them control but also makes it random enough to never be able to determine the outcome. One person I RP with rolls for everything and its SO SCARY. I'm like "Noooo don't die" all the time
  13. I take rape pretty seriously, anyone says they rape my character without my permission is going to get an earful, a report, and a blacklist. Period. Other than that, don't Godmod, let people react to what you want to do, if they want to get beat up or whatever they'll let you beat them, you don't gotta force it on them
  14. Hey guys, I was looking for some people who wanted to rp with me as the child of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Spike the vampire. I'd be their daughter, a half Miqote (Turned into a half-cat by a CURSE when they learned I was half vampire). I'm thinking my character is trying to stop the Hellmouth in Eorzea and is a slayer, but is an extra special slayer because she is Buffy and Spike's daughter - and also a cat. She has amazing powers due to her half vampire lineage, is super strong but also super cute because cat ears and tail, but she's also so fragile and just wants to fit in with everyone around her. Also, Willow ave her all her witch powers so she has a carbuncle side kick that she summons with the power of friendship. Contact me if you want to help the next SLAYER AGAINST DOOM. (I'm convinced this a troll, so I'm rolling with it).
  15. The Night Blades is officially in Turn 6, yall, and most of us are working n our Leviathan X clear (Which we should have soon, we were just ramming our face into Twintania). On the Roleplay front - someone named Thunder is causing trouble for Uldah! And the Garleans seem to be back in action! Oh noes! Season three, lets go! We are a stable guild of about 50-60 people that still feels like a small community. We have a small house in Mist (Ward 5, plot 20) where Unity is our neighbor and since we feel in competition with them in endgame we pointed one of our canons at them. Did we mention we have three canons? You can come hang out with us there, though Ellion may fire a cannon at you. Currently we're saving for a large house in Lavender Beds. We love new people. We love you. We also love pie. And Lalafells.
  16. I'll probably show up for this. Armi the PR guy strikes again!
  17. My Garleans name is Isera Fennias, which just sounds vaguely Garlean and it works out pretty well. It' doesn't have to be perfect or you could say its a fake name and be undercover. She also barely has anything to do with the military, since I didn't want to go that route, but is part of a rich and influential Garlean family - because I assume every culture everywhere has those. Hmmm. Faye I'll have to get an invite to your LS on Isera. I'm in Denns already, let's pool resources, start an army, take over Eorzea >.>
  18. I roll a Garlean alt with a few people, including Denn above there. Like Denn, I plan on playing her more to get her craziness spread around. Our FC has a lot of people who are playing Garleans and their allies, go ahead and give us a buzz
  19. Night Blades finally cleared Twin! Our clear team: Ellion Goto, Aurek Tau, I'zumi Kondo, Lum Delume, Dennthotta Armagedyn (>.>), Kage Kiryuu, Armi Alliando, Caedmon Scythean. 100% Roleplayer clear team! And we did it with one tank... for reasons Also (Spoilers for after turn 5) On to Turn 6!
  20. I think Armi has some form of PTSD, mostly from her time at Carteneau and being skipped ahead, and the long winded stories of the last 7 months have certainly had an effect on her. I'm not going to say not much has happened to her, if you look at her journal it's already 8 pages long, but it didn't feel too whirlwindy - though sometimes it was one thing right after another and she was very overwhelmed. Over all though, Armi is actually a very lighthearted, fun loving character. She's sweet and (unintentionally) funny, generally happy, and mostly normal. Her idea of getting to know someone is to make them tea. She writes song, collects ugly lamps and was just a farm girl turned priestess. She isn't extraordinary, she just gets thrust into extraordinary situations, which I tend to prefer. I think there needs to be a balance, honestly. If too much BIG stuff happens it just gets exhausting and you need the small conversations with other people to develop relationships and really get to know your character. In all honestly, I think building those relationship through just having tea or going to a bar is EXTREMELY important. Because if something happens to your character or to the character you've been spending time with it has MUCH more impact.
  21. Because it's a style of acting. Some actors don't get into character to the extent of others. There's a famous story of an exchange between Dustin Hoffman and Laurence Olivier, that - I'll just quote it here: There's that famous, but likely apocryphal, story about Laurence Olivier and Dustin Hoffman when they were working together on Marathon Man. To prepare for a scene, Hoffman had gone for a few days without sleep and looked pretty rough. Olivier asked him why he was putting himself through such an ordeal and Hoffman replied that he was trying to be convincing in the role. Olivier replied, "Try acting dear boy". YOU are Olivier, this people getting into the zone and inside their characters heads are Hoffman. Both are VALID forms of acting and the two have merits and flaws all their own. I prefer the Hoffman approach because I feel I can be more authentic. That's all. It should be known I love putting my characters through a lot. I believe in character growth through adversity. Armi has been stabbed by the enemy (4 times since the games launch), shot, kidnapped, almost killed my her friend, possessed by a voidsent, had limbs broken, been beat up, fought Garleans regularly, lost to Garleans reguarly, killed people in war, etc etc. I enjoy that kind of RP as well. I enjoy, also putting my character through those situations. But Armi has also struggled with making friends, finding who she is, falling in love, had her heart broken, taught someone how to make cupcakes, danced at social ball, learn to drink like a sailor (Still working on that), cried over boys, had long emotional talks, held hands in the rain. A well rounded character does all of those things and I think, as someone is stating in this thread, that saying thats all characters they see do may be disingenuous. If you saw Armi talking in the bar* you'd have no idea she'd almost been blown up by a bomb a week ago (True story) and assume I only do social rp because you don't see me running off and trying to get revenge or find Armi's missing friend or whatever. *AS a note: You won't see Armi talking in a bar currently, unless her friends force her to go as she recenty had a bad break up and has been reeling over that for 2 weeks SO FAR. I try to be as authentic with pain as possible. If she's hurt, she's out. If someone gets hurt, it takes awhile for her to process, etc ,etc. The bomb also caused quite a fright and she's dealing with that as well. It's not just "This happened, oh well time to go to a bar."
  22. I always try to get inside my characters head and feel what they feel when trying to play a scene and I have a lot of empathy when something bad happens to one of my good characters (Not so much with my evil ones) and I have cried at overly emotional scenes - just like reading a good book or watching a good movie will do. I think in order to play our characters accurately, we have to try to feel what they feel in the moment. Whether it's a funny scene or a serious scene, we have to try to get into their head. In essence, we're actors and thats what actors do. Never take it OOC though. Once your out of your characters head remember that you are you and your character is your character. This can be difficult, hell even some big named actors have trouble with this once a shoot is wrapped. But it's important to get out of your characters head space when you are not being your character, if you find yourself stuck there - taking their feelings into the OOC - you need to take a step back and distance yourself a bit till you can leave. OOC and IC are always two very distinct and different things.
  23. Get the lantern up and running again! I'll happily write for it. Armi would make a pretty good writer actually since she already writes songs.. hmmmmm
  24. The Pilgrim Robe is so preisty, I totally want to get WHM up to 50 on Armi now just in case she ever goes back to being a priest.
  25. Those are my guildmates Aurek Tau, La Curaga, and Kage Kiryuu - all three are indeed glorious. Aurek and Curaga had the greatest start and end to a romance right at the ball. I laughed so hard when Aurek said Armi's ears were "fitting" with her dress.
