Romance! Romance should come from seeing if your character has chemistry with another character. I wouldn't run around advertising you want a romance, but instead look for new contacts, roleplay with them and see where the characters' chemistry is. Because you could advertise and your characters just... don't have that spark and its awkward if you plan it and it doesn't work out. Romance should be as organic as possible, really. Always be honest though! In OOC communications with your rp buddy let it be known if you felt there was a connection between the two and your not adverse to romance SHOULD it happen. Don't expect romance to happen either, let it be surprising and fun and spontaneous, with - of course - both players OOCly being okay IF (not when) it goes there.

Anyone who does this is bein' lame too. Find people who don't mind OOC communication. I am telling you, a whole new world opens up when you do. Everything is easier and funner and better.

Character Creation is basically the only reason I'll start looking at a game. It's just that important to me. I dun care if other players are looking at Armi's nose, I AM. And I matter.
-
OOC is very important for this. You want to RP with someone? Send them a tell. Say "Hello" to them. This is the ONLY way I've found to make connections, it's really the only way I've found that works. Characters can talk in a bar all they want, but like the real world, there is no guarantee that they will meet again. However, unlike the real world, they all have players pulling their puppet strings so it's easy to go "I think your and my character get along, we should rp more!" Then set a date (Don't say "We should rp more" and then don't set a date, that's bein' lame). I do this because I have absolutely no shame and I've met a lot of really cool characters this way. It's just so, so important.

I see it like this: If someone who wasn't a roleplayer was dropping the C-word over and over again in one spot, they would get reported BY roleplayers. It's completely hypocritical of the RP community to think it's suddenly okay for US just because we're acting. THe game has no such rule on the difference and people can still see your foul language even as a roleplayer. There's a reason that movies with that word are rated "R". The occasional swear I'm not going to get on anyones butt about (OOCly or ICly) but for Gods sake, this is a video game - Tone it the eff down. [for the record: read this in a more neutral tone, it's not supposed to be super aggressive /internettone]

Summoner has an easy-ish work around. You have to fight a primal in order to fight it's essence and get an Egi. If your character has the Echo, no problem, fight a primal at some point become a Summoner. It's tricky if your character doesn't HAVE the Echo, but there are ways around it as well that bend lore and not break it (It's stated in canon that people with a high willpower can resist tempering for instance)

Remember that in Lore WHMs are explicitly banned by the elementals and only one exists in the world that isn't a padjal (The pc your playing in the story) playing one in RP doesn't really make much sense lore-wise (It's also a pretty heavy source of contention in the FFXIV RP community).

Openly swearing is against ToS, if you are really offended by it report him. Then he'll get a probation and probably stop doing it so much.

While I like the idea, all the female options are just making different girls from Girls; Generation [video=youtube] Pretty as they are, MAYBE JUST MAYBE I don't want my character to look like a Kpop princess.

From what I'm getting, if your brother didn't time skip, then your brother is remembered. Dead or alive. There are probably a lot of people who were at Carteneau and didn't get skipped ahead for reasons and obviously Eorzea remembers the event happened so not everyone could have been skipped ahead. Would they forget the younger brother being the older brother? Probably. The younger brother would be wiped from most memory. The confusion would come from them thinking the older brother was at Carteneau but they have no idea why they think that, they just do.

I;d love to hear your crits of CCP if you ever want to post about them in this thread

Armi likes reading. Her favorite kind of books are fiction, preferable with romance in them, about big, epic adventures and hardships to be overcome. She also reads a lot of straight up romance novels, finding the idea wistful. She makes tea - both for medical reasons and for taste - and tries to keep up on the latest herbs and recipes and is always trying to make her own. She has a lot of special blends that are hers alone, secret recipes for anything from insomnia to headaches to healing bruises quicker. A good way to get to know Armi is through her tea and when she meets someone new she's quick to offer it as a way of trying to be their friend. She writes songs. Though she has a journal her songs tend to be an outlet for her more complex emotions and that tends to be how she figures out what her emotions really are. It's not surprising if she writes a song about someone or something that's impacted her in some way. Loki likes to fish. She's actually rather good at it and finds it relaxing. Being the second in command of the Night Blades can be a stressful endeavor sometimes. Loki also likes to read, though her favorite books are rare books about different unfound artifacts in Eorzea. Loki used to be a treasure hunter and she loves learning about different pieces in history. Not that she would ever admit it, but she's actually a pretty good artist and likes to sketch different things when she's bored.

^ Ah yes there are a few rp characters some people play that make my heart go, as the Japanese put it, Doki doki. Lets use the favour system on them >.>

I don't get the love for Minfilia either, I assume it's because of her breast region. Thancred I get because I have such a weakness for charming rogues with dumb ass smirks (Hello Flynn Rider <3) and I tend to lean toward white haired men in my Japanese fantasy games. So yeah, Thancred. Also, Hildebrand. Hildebrand forever.

Regardless of gender, if you try to touch Armi she will freak out. However, if men give her compliments she is much much more likely to blush and look at the ground than if a woman does it. Both genders also have the ability to force her brain to reboot if they try very overtly flirting with her (She doesn't get it if you try to be subtle or use a lot of innuendo). Everyone is intimidating to her, regardless of sex, when she first meets them. Hell, months after she meets them. Since she doesn't really see herself as a viable romantic candidate, she never assumes or thinks anyone is making a pass at her - regardless of gender. In that way she's very gender neutral about things -- everyone intimidates her and she assumes everyone sees her as nothing more than the strange girl who talks to plants. She CAN recognize men as being handsome, but it's more of an observation than it is like "SO CUTE BE MINE"

Would someone be willing to be queen for a day?
ArmachiA replied to Erik Mynhier's topic in RP Discussion
I would totally do it if I had a character slot open, I don't think it's unreasonable to want an NPC there since it's just a cameo and not someones main. I can totally see Dennthota planning something against the Sultana right this second.... ...Denn -
This seems fun! The Night Blades have a weakness for Bal-- dances. I'll post about this on our forums, you should see a few of us show up.

Two veteran players looking for FC family
ArmachiA replied to Mijisaa Qisaa's topic in FFXIV Discussion
THe Nightblades are a Chaotic Good, somewhat darker themed FC that also does Coil and be awesome. We also totally love Lalafells. We have all kinds of characters in our FC who fit the darker spectrum, though we do consider ourselves more anti-hero ish. We run two endgame statics - Limsa and Uldah - and are currently looking to start up a third. Take a look at us on the linkshell listing We kinda rock. -
My FC has a whole alt side thats made to be purely antagonistic (Not evil, but they are Garlean mostly) in order to fight against our "good" characters (Subjective, since we run a darker themed FC) and we have branched out to different people before but I admit we're pretty squeamish about it in general. It requires a lot of OOC communication and a lot of people don't really like doing that. Our villains have hopes and dreams and things all on their own and really think they are doing what they think is right - but playing a Villain is really really hard when everyone wants a piece of you. You tend to get powergamed more often, you have to lose all the time so someone else can be the hero. It can be a PAIN, honestly. I've seen friends who are supposed to be undercover get meta-gamed as being Garlean simpy because they mentioned it OOCly. Somehow someone found out about it ICly when there was no evidence to prove it. It's really a hassle sometimes /endrant.

Anyone else have the problem of not remembering exactly what their real hair color is? That's me. It's some kind of dark brown. That's all I know Bonk.

Limsa! I wish there was more RP in Limsa

I GM - with a few other players - for my FC and our allied FC so I'm always planning. I don't really mind doing it for everyone since I'm so used to GMing in the first place. I like Tavern RP - but like everything if its the only thing I ever do I get really bored really quickly. I have to have plot and bad guys and people trying to kill other people and things blowing up and romance and intrigue and deep character development - all of which requires some kind of planning. I also don't mind people planning meetings with my characters instead of meeting organically. Some people have already done it to me and it worked out really great

On FFXIV: I still like the game, a lot. I am pretty patient with MMO's if they have one thing happening: Putting out content on a regular basis. When you start a brand new MMO (Which honestly I think most MMO players should NOT DO because they don't have the patience for the next part) you're putting in a Time/money investment on the Devs putting in content. Content isn't going to BE THERE the first year. It's just not. No MMO will ever have enough content to keep players happy right at release. They just won't. Patches later on will show what they plan to do and what their design theory is and that's important - but even THOSE patches will still lack some content because they will be playing catch up with their player base till probably the first expansion. You play an MMO at the beginning, you are saying "I expect you to put in more content later and am paying the money to trust you will." and a lot of people just don't have the patience to wait. A lot of MMO's I've played failed to deliver (Aion, no content patches in 6 months, TERA - same, TOR - small content patches, one dungeon per 3 month patch after a promise of one PLANET every three months, TSW too small and real content patches) but I love how the Devs are doing it in FFXIV. It makes me want to invest my time. 2.2 was a major content patch, 2.3 is also a major one, plus they do patches in between that are large and fix things as well. They are coming out when they said (Every three months), keeping the playerbase relatively informed (Not as well as WoW, but better than most Devs), Yoshi-P has a real passion for the game that is refreshing and seems to really understand the MMO community. It really makes me want to stick around because I feel it's a worthwhile investment of my time. I know content is coming - something I can't guarantee from a lot of games on the market right now (Save WoW, but I'm so tired of WoW). That being said, the only one that maayyybbe catching my eye is Wildstar, and that's ONLY because it's Science Fiction (My prefered Genre). I hate the art style, but I'll give it a whirl. I'm forever waiting for World of Darkness (Which was how I got into Roleplaying at the tender age of 17) -- but I'm starting to believe it's nothing more than a pipedream of CCP. I actually really like Age of Canon pre-20 when it launched. THe solo instances and the story were really fun... after 20 there was nothing and I felt tricked

To me, the implication of having to get to 50 is a bit more problematic, but I really don't see the fuss over the Glamour system in the first place. I mean it'll be nice, but my have my RP set in my armory chest and that works out fine for me. Takes 5 seconds to switch between one and the other and I'm not really looking at how good my gear looks in Coil (Much more worried about my stats - what up ACC). Disclaimer: THAT'S JUST ME. Glamour is a nice system but not one I feel is game breaking if implemented poorly. I think it's because the first time I ever saw a Glamour system was Aion - where if you wanted to use the piece for Glamour the piece was destroyed in the process. I did like DCUO's system in theory (Equipped thing, keep look of thing in menu forever) but the menu was kind of clunky and one I got a ton of pieces I stopped using it. I played GW2 but can't for the life of me remember how that worked, guess it wasn't too memorable. My favorite system, by far, is The Secret World. All actual leveling pieces aren't even SEEN on your character. Their totem or other artifacts. All the clothes you see are buyable in clothing shops and are purely there for looks. Really cool idea, but I understand most games can't do this. This is SE though. There is something you need to know about SE if you've never played FFXI -- and this is important. SE will implement something and it will be awful to start, pretty much all the time. They have good ideas but their follow through when they are added is terrible. It's been this way since FFXI. HOWEVER, they are generally quick to fix their mistakes if there is a lot of sound offs. They DO listen to their playerbase, but not till AFTER "thing" is already implemented. They'll put in their vision first and see how it goes, then fix it when they realized they fucked up. It happens a lot with them, but I suppose it's better than never listening at all and actively fighting back against criticism (Sup TOR Devs?)

Yup, as Landstander said, the Night Blades runs in learning groups all the time. I have never pugged endgame content. Ever. And I've done everything (Except Ifrit Ex... what up Titan?) because my FC is just amazing at going in and teaching people. Currently, Natalie and Ellion are both setting up learning groups for the Extremes for anyone who's level 50 to go in and learn. Anyone. Our Coil groups are first come, first serve, anyone in the FC can sign up and will be taught. Each group goes once a week and it's a nice casual atmosphere. Endgame is all about who you run with. If you don't have good friends, it can be extremely stressful. If you run with a good group, it's really really fun. I enjoy getting together with my raid group every week and talking while we're plugging away at Turns. I know why SE focuses on Endgame, because it's so easy to level up it doesn't make much sense to put something in the beginning or in the middle. I know they are getting better - with dailies and Gardening. I have two level 50 - who are well geared - and a bunch of characters in the 20's. It's super easy to level, they gotta put something at the end to keep players there. The only criticism I have for endgame is to put more casual endgame things up for the non-hardcore raidy types to do. Moggle Mog is a pretty good example, but he's getting a raidy Extreme mode. I think if they did that - added some casual endgame content - it would solve a lot of problems.
