  1. I feel as if I am doing the group a disservice not doing a write up and discussion on the topic of Layered Cannons. In this particular case, the case where the larger Lore says "This thing is rare and forbidden." The wider ideals of Cannon, that of Lore and Public Cannon, would have the keep the rule and public context enforced. So, it would be frowned upon to be outward on the public level about it. However, in deeper, smaller Canon circles, such a thing could be permissible as an 'exception' to the lore as lore is always established by setting rules and watching the story break those rules, and then explain the reasons in order to expand the lore. So in this case, being a White Mage is permissible in any group that tolerates or encourages it. Anyone within your Personal Canon circle who's cool with it would be fine, as you're the one in control of who's in your own circle, and of course, Headcannon you pretty much have free reign. In short, the smaller your circle, the more you can get away with bending or breaking lore. Just be respectful of those who are trying to keep the public light more adherent to it.
  2. The only race I don't represent is Lalafell, and to be fair, I still have a character slot left on Balmung to use.
  3. I have a feeling quite a few characters will be making edits to have appropriate middle names. This is great info though.
  4. Yep, I foresee soo many people just simply not going with the conventions on this. It's great to have it and all but... this is going to drive yet another wedge between those who are hardcore on lore and those who are more casual about it. Still, some of this information is just rich. I'm guessing that any romantic propositioning between members of the Torgurd tribe is prefaced by "Hey want to take a bath together?"
  5. Girlfriend is coming over Thursday evening (to use my better internet connection and to bunker down with me) and we'll be asleep early to be up for Friday, which I have off work. I have off the entirety of the following week off for vacation time. I should note - this is my first ever paid vacation, and it's being used on Heavensward. My self rating?
  6. The outpouring of the Fans of Iga was amazing, insane even. I sat there and watched the four hours stream and was laughing till my sides hurt. I'm going to have a hard time containing my excitement for this game as the next two long years come about. Thankfully there is Heavensward and a lot of other good games coming down the pipeline in the meanwhile. I'd rather Iga and Inti Creates take their time and really give this game the polish it deserves, then have the game come out quickly.
  7. I sadly don't know enough anime moments and Gifs available to look these up. And I really kinda want to... Halp?
  8. Between Eric and Lin, I don't know who to start with. Eric was my first character in Balmung and my start to Rping in FFXIV, but Lin is my Legacy Character from Excalibur that I brought over. Lin for the most part was my primary character to play but Eric holds just as much emotional investment in him, especially seeming I cleared A Realm Reborn with him BEFORE doing the storyline as Lin to accentuate the differences between the two character origins. Eric is a Summoner/Scholar, and I am VERY interested into seeing how Summoner develops. (As well as its storyline.) Then Lin being a Dragoon, major plot and mechanical additions to her are coming up and I'm just squee. I've got two characters worth the excitement coming down the pipeline for me - I'm not sure where to begin.
  9. On the subject of Summoner, my FC actually spent a good deal of time pondering over the quandary of how a person could come across the essence of a primal without subjecting themselves to combat and defeat it. As a Free Company, we wished to preserve the sense of danger and threat associated with the Primals. In this effect, our Primal plots (which are considered core storyline for the FC) are fairly extensive. Weeks of RPed preparation, the battle itself is a multi-day rp oocly. NPCs die and at least one PC is walking away with major if not critical injuries. Primals are not something we 'farm'. Therefore simply going back and facing the Primal again wasn't something likely to happen with us (although independent members of the FC have Personal Canon that they get recruited for subsequent returns of said Primals.) OOCly, we want to impress upon theses newer members the danger of the Primals, as well as encourage them to interact with our members. However, at the same time we don't want to deprive them of a mechanic other members of the FC have due to participating with us. Also my standing policy on the matter of Jobs is something my FC tends to agree with - if it's accessible in game we don't want to just offhandedly prevent them form using it ICly, obstructive lore be damned. So we presented the problem ICly for players to RP and mull over for a time, before coming up with our own solution. (Which I won't spoil here, PM me if you're interested in know what we came up with.) In the end, we were quite happy with what we came up with in the existing lore, and it helped expand our roleplays without trampling on what we've done or the policies we've set for ourselves, but instead reinforcing and celebrating them. Trying to draw a line where fun and fair meet isn't easy, but it's always worthwhile.
  10. Telling a new player they can't or will run into issues playing something that is readily accessible to them in the game, regardless of whether or not they have a good IC story on how it occurs just comes across as abrasive. One of the fundamental principles of conduct in roleplaying is to promote a positive and inclusive environment in which people feel encouraged to roleplay. Having someone have the entirety of the job system presented before them and seeing all the interesting people getting into roleplaying, then having the second things said to them (besides hello) is that they can't do what enticed them to begin with is both contradictory to the aims and tenants roleplayers desire and ultimately unhealthy for a community. Always should the reasonable inclusiveness of its members superseded any independent idea or 'lore rule' so long as that idea falls within reasonable grounds. Whatever rules you wish to impart on individual groups as far as the usage of Job Stones, particular jobs, etc - are at best Group Canon specific to that group and should have no weight or bearing outside it, and it's fairly clear here that there are multiple opinions on the matter to the point where the RPC cannot claim to be under a single canopy of thought on the matter (nor should it ever, diversity is the soil in which imagination blooms.) All jobs fall within this category - it is a readily accessible mechanic of the game that anyone can play, that in the failing of the written lore is dictated to be rare or non-existent beyond 'special exception'. This portion of that lore can, and in should be disregarded as according to the player or group's preference. Rather than keep the restricting concepts as an absolute - the lore stories behind them are guidelines on how to conduct oneself as that Job. Someone who is a White or Black mage, due to matters of secrecy and persecution, are not going to be outwardly public about it, or, if they are, active persecution would be of the themes of that individual's plot. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Out of all of these, Scholars are rather easy to story-line. Nym is in ruins and many of its treasures were only to be revealed after the Calamity. It's not beyond the concept of a story for someone to stumble across one of these stones in a rare moment of destiny. How a Scholar conducts themselves Publicly, however, that's a matter of discussion. I'm of the mind that while Arcanists are fine having their carbuncles out in public, Scholars would likely want to protect their faeries from unwanted attention, unless they're absolutely needed.
  11. FC's policy that Kidnappings or other such methods that puts a character out of the ability to RP for a period of time get resolved quickly. (Day of if possible) to prevent any sort of extraordinary circumstances that could wind up locking the poor player out from being able to roleplay. Case in point ,we had an alliance member wanted to do an event in which his character was missing. Scheduling conflicts and participation issues had the character out of RP commission for a number of months rather than a number of weeks as the roleplayer intended. So unless there is a specific set time-frame that the plot resolves itself in a set amount of time, we tend to avoid RPs like that simply because of OOC factors. Not that we're against it, simply just want the logistics to get in the way of the way the person getting to RP.
  12. Tashil: *Claws out* "Mrroolll! Tiny Tike is not Scrappy! Only Scrappy Cat is Scrappy. Kick and punch in Thall's Daddybags till squeaks come out of the Tiny Tike's lips like squished dourmouse!" Hyrist at Flower: "That's cause we got chests to pound there missy. Maybe develop a couple more years up there maybe you'll be able to tussel with the big boys."
  13. Hyrist: "So... when are you all gonna be done spouting oral and get down to some real business?" *belch* "It's much more fun when things get physical. Come at me bros, and don' forget to bring the towel your friends will have to throw in for ye."
  14. (I'm going to preface this with an acknowledgement that my opinion may be unpopular and I accept the difficulties that may provide. However my concern is the happiness and entertainment of my comrades, not an abstract and logically restrictive ideal. So long as it is within reason, and not overly ridiculous, my friends come first.) When lore is unaccommodating of easily accessible mechanics to the player, it is the lore that it in error, and is open to be bent or flat out disregarded. The problem about lore-mongering is that it does not take bad writing on behalf of the creators into consideration. The more FFXIV's story staff treats their lore like a single-player game, the more damaging and dividing it becomes to the Roleplayer base. And this happens across several MMOs, particularly noticeable in SWtOR and ARR in particular are pretty big violators of this. Conversely, well-written lore premises do not ignore their mechanics. Aion in particular went above and beyond making even the revival mechanics part of their lore. Even FFXIV 1.0 in the instance was far and away more inclusive then what's being provided here and now. Our Free Company keeps 'Adventurer Class' Jobs as canon, with a general story behind each on how the practices are passed on. Issues with individual components such as Fantasias can generally be written in, rather than be retconed. And each situation that these exceptions occur, crate their own sphere of canons that become glossed over, or just not mentioned in larger groupings, in which their own canon may differ. Head-canon > Personal Canon > Group Canon > Public Canon > Lore - This is generally an accepted structure in preventing lore or personal cannon conflicts. The wider of a group you deal with, the more conflicting details just simply don't come up or be presented. Here's a breakdown of how it could be done in the spoiler:
  15. Too early to tell. Depends entirely on the substence of the 'bullets'. If the bullets themselves are just charges of aether without a solid object to be propelled, than it can be defended in most ways a spell can. But remember we're a Japanese RPG, so parrying bullets is quite feasible in most RP situations. Not to mention bullets shot from Heirsbane were punched, absorbed and redirected in canon cutscenes. So this isn't something beyond defensible like it is in real life.
  16. I'm sorry..... what? Liek... wut?! Okay, well, first off, he IS a conjurer, so that part's kiiind of okay. The part that's NOT okay is T'rahnu somehow... being... a voidsent demon? Not to mention, Rakka'li engaging in rituals of summoning voidsent?! This is a non-starter! I'd have to rewrite both of their entire backgrounds to RP this out, and that is SO not happening! I mean... gawd, it's just so bloody hilarious how it gave me a prompt that makes absolutely no sense with either the setting or the characters. I LOVE it. It's so wrong! I'd try to RP it in spite but... yeah, wow. Haha. Damn. I know I could have just re-rolled, but this shook me up so much I just HAD to share it. Step one of how to make a non-starter work: - assume both characters are actors playing fictional roles. Step two of how to make a non-starter work: - add copious amounts of humor. Step three - Stir Vigorously (Or shake if you are of the Bond variety) Step Four - Profit.
  17. I'm a huge fan of Iga, so this kickstarter ended up being the first I ever backed! Happy to see it so successful and anxious for it to come out in the future.
  18. Um... uh... I think I read that wrong. Ok! Onto rolls! (That did NOT help the mental image...) Hyrist sits at the coffer as a mysterious Auri woman begins sipping out of a concoction she had made earlier, having mistaken it for a bar drink she had already emptied several minutes before. The mix of alachol and love potion probably was not a good idea. Especially as Hyrist had made some fairly unappropriated comments her way earlier. Something about his woes of no longer being single as a missed opportunity to 'catch some tail'. Flower leaned in at him with predatory eyes. She had said something to him in a slur, something about helping her out in her laboratory... something else about wearing only lab coats. Hyrist was only partially listening. Those limbal rings were a bit distracting. "Um... a yeah I don't mind that you're... uh... horny... but you might wanna size up some other bit of meat there hun." Hyrist's attempts at distracting humor were failing him. "I think I'm gonna go now." Hyrist bails out of his seat as fast as he can muster, knowing that in doing so he was sparing the poor woman's life from the wrath of the one who managed to tame even his wild oats.
  19. I would love to do this ,but I need a volenteer, and a character selection. Choose your Destiny: Lin Celistine - the Spear Huntress. Eric Verus - the Studious Spy Hyrist Verus - the Drunkard Tashil Nobolo - the Scrappy Cat Who wants me to pluck them out of the stands for a random encounter of one of the above?
  20. See the problem here is that people are looking at it from a in character logistics standpoint. First and foremost: Consent to Harm still applies here - if it's not there, your spell whiffs. So long as the two of you are in legitimate combat, yes, the Egi's going to suffer some pretty harsh damage (just remember to take the trade-off, you just dumped all your Mana into that.) As far as whether or not flare one-shots an egi - that's up for OOC discussion. HP and defence is fairly variable depending on the Egi and the person's stats, so that's overall debatable. However, I don't see them losing a Egi to be a big issue, after all, Re-summoning is a thing.
  21. When it comes to Coil, I'm incredibly far behind. I'm on Turn 8 if we're talking full on progression, so naturally I'm stuck behind the 9 wall. To be fair, however, I haven't really been trying. My GF and I retired out from raiding due to RL stress causing us to burn out hard.
  22. I got Eric and Lin through the main story-line, Lin's up to the Zodiac dungeons for her weapon and that's where she will stay till heavensward. For now, I think I'm going to take it easy, not burn myself out in anticipation, work on planning some role-plays down the road.
  23. So... when are we doing a shirtless march? We're doing a shirtless march, right? This obviously calls for an epic march - of shirtlessness.
  24. Well, I have one 'transforming', but one of my characters is fairly adverse to anything Voidsent. Thankfully he has experience with Domans so it won't be a huge problem for him, just awkward. I've got a total of 6 active Player level Characters so the reactions are going to be highly varied, but outright racism against them won't really happen - because there's really no grounds for it. They're just strangers, and interesting ones at that.
  25. I need to upload more recent images between them. But Here's a sketch of Lin and Claire from a while back, and a screenshot.
