I have close to no sense of smell in real life... I have no idea how I'm going to figure this one out.

Transgender FtM Top Surgery Fundraiser
Eve Malusion replied to Gone4everbye's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I didn't either, actually, I keep thinking I'm the only one. Actually I might be the only MtF here, from the looks of it. <__< You're not. ...I'll just leave it at that, not a topic I'm comfortable talking about. -
How Elilgeim (my main) is probably going to look, only thing I'm considering changing is her hair colour: Her as a lala! Her as a male! I'm not very good at making her as other races or genders, but I tried for the heck of it. Would probably help if the skintone or hairstyle was available at all. Side characters that are in my backstory but will never make an actual appearance in game because I felt like I needed to have an idea of how they look! Lewenoux (still working on that name, I'm not too sure about it) Edgar, who I'm rewriting completely due to liking how he turned out, so I'm working him in there.

This Should Be The Bard-Specific Mount
Eve Malusion replied to Domri Blackblade's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Quite frankly, if I can sit playing a piano in the pvp outfit the live letter showed. Well I would just rewrite my entire backstory to be a bard right there and then, that would be fabulous. -
Arguments For Marriage Equality in Eorzea
Eve Malusion replied to Dameon's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Well, you may have missed my point as well. At no point did I state I was expecting them to change it or announce it right away, the chance for that has already passed, and now it's stuck in a situation that can't be rectified until at least after launch. I was just genuinely curious about if there was actually a case of it happening to a MMO because of the core differences between it being a service that happens to have it available and a single player title. Really my opinion on the whole matter is that the best way to handle it would have been to just not bring it up in the first place. Just mention the marriage system and leave it at that saying more information would be given closer to it actually being released, a stalling answer, sure, but there is a reason we have those in the first place, and that is to avoid the situation it is currently in. I'm frankly far too cynical a person to actually see them changing this for a while after it has actually been announced. It is now in a situation where it will create bad PR either way. When it comes down to it, I think the developers might be open to it, but this still leaves that major shareholders need to see it as profitable. If it was handled discreetly it wouldn't be too hard to manage, but once there is a PR storm about it, knowing there is bad PR for either choice, they have to be convinced that the profits from so-called "Pink money" is larger than the losses from people who have problems with it being allowed. In a western market I most certainly would very much say that I believe that to be the case currently, but I assume that it might be quite a bit harder to convince them of that in a country as conservative as Japan is. I'm honestly not even going to pretend I know nearly enough about Japanese culture to make an educated call on how that would fare over there. -
Arguments For Marriage Equality in Eorzea
Eve Malusion replied to Dameon's topic in FFXIV Discussion
No MMO has currently launched with gay marriage as a feature, confirmed or implemented. The reason why one can consider it as a risk to FFXIV to confirm it before launch, is because there are games (Remember, MMOs are still -games-) that are either flat-out banned, or made into an 18+ and thusly highly inaccessible title in these places. If an MMO HAS done this, please correct me. My research is not always correct. True, though, as brought up multiple times already, this game isn't launching with it either. While it being rumored that it "might" have it down the line could create some bad PR in these countries, without it specifically listing it as a feature to come, most rulesets for banning video games on this basis will require to actually be in the game already. I also realise that one can't completely overlook that games, even if single player, have been banned for it. Though, I still feel it worth at least noting that in the scenario of an all the time online multiplayer game coming out, then later down the line introducing same sex marriage, there has never been a case of them going back to it and banning it for it. When it comes down to it there really are some things that I feel have to be looked at differently for it in a MMO however. First thing being a general way of the game being handled: This is not a game belonging to you in the same way it would be with a single player title. You are subscribing to utilise a service, rather than actually being the owner of the game. Second: In the case of a single player title, for example in Mass Effect 3, the developer has to put in a character that is there for the purpose of having a same sex relationship (just for the record, I'm not trying to say the characters are just there for the romantic option, but their story purpose is redundant to this point). This meaning that there is only the one player involved in the fantasy of the same sex relationship in that game. In the MMO scenario, the fact that there are two humans who have to agree to it and have a same sex relationship with eachother. While one scenario has a ready, set, complete story involving a same sex relationship on the disc, the other having two humans involved and the relationship and story around it will be formed by them, rather than what the developers themselves have programmed in. The important thing about that being that there are two people subscribing to a service who happen to be in a same sex relationship, rather than someone in a game that has a NPC made with a same sex relationship in mind available for anyone that has the game. It is much harder to ban a game for two people subscribing to it as a service happening to have a same sex relationship, rather than the single player alternative. Sorry if any of it comes across as blunt or patronizing in any way, English isn't my first language so when it comes to more complicated things than everyday conversation my vocabulary is very limited. -
Arguments For Marriage Equality in Eorzea
Eve Malusion replied to Dameon's topic in FFXIV Discussion
So I would appreciate someone correcting me if I'm wrong on this, but there's one thing that is kind of bothering me about the earlier arguments about same sex marriage risking the game getting banned in some countries. What exactly is the evidence of that happening at all in an MMO in the past? I've been trying to look it up but the only cases of middle eastern countries ever banning a game for same sex relationships has been for single player titles. No matter where I've looked I couldn't find a single case of a MMORPG being banned or having it's age rating increased due to same sex relationships. As for Russia, I haven't been able to find a case of them ever banning a video game at all. Sorry if this has been addressed earlier, I did read the entire thread but I might have missed a post on it in passing. -
I quite like the miqo'te, but I will admit to being heavily biased towards miqo'te and roegadyn for female characters in the first place. I especially like the balance on the pale colour scheme for yours, I think it suits her.

I just want more hair that covers one eye. Really I don't even need new hairstyles, I'll be plenty happy if they just give the 2 highlander female ones to more races, they're my favorite hairstyles in the game, but I don't want to play a Hyur.

Open Beta & Early Access, Live Letter 8 Discussion

Considering it's as short as it is, I would assume they let everyone in at the same time unless they explicitly state otherwise. Though, unless they find a game breaking bug in phase 4 that's kind of like phase 1 of early access. -
They said world transfer would be available around 3 weeks after launch. However they didn't go into specifics about restrictions between going legacy -> new or vice versa, and will be giving out more information closer to it being available. So yeah, it will exist fairly early, but if they're sticking to what they said earlier on there will probably be restrictions on going between legacy and new servers at the start.

Welcome, nice to have you here! People here tend to be really friendly so if you're wondering about something, lorewise or other, feel free to ask.

Personally I'm not completely sure about being a Roe in the long run, so I'm glad the option is there. I intend to not get involved in any story lines or major RP before I have decided, though, so I'll still be in a position where I can retcon my backstory without it being a problem too much of a problem. I really don't believe myself to be nearly a good enough writer or RPer to pull it off IC, and multiple times in my backstory I have felt that it would fit better as a Miqo'te. As for other people using it IC, if they can pull off writing it in I'm fine with it personally. The main reason I worry about it being too common is that if they're giving it out as an early veteran reward, that means literally everyone will have at least one, which increases the chance of it becoming commonly used by quite a bit as compared to when you have to give an extra amount of real money for it.

It wasn't said as far as I know but it really looks like it would be a bard outfit I think. Though I could have missed it because they were going through the armors incredibly fast so I was too busy taking pictures to actually know what they said in that part. -
What is you're favoite Final Fantasy Song?
Eve Malusion replied to Kellen whitewolf's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
From a spinoff game (Crystal Chronicles) rather than one of the main franchise but I do love this song: a1AgHbD4WYY With that said, to be fair, I haven't played a main franchise game since final fantasy 6. -

If memory serves, that is the same armor as will be displayed in creation when you set it to showing you in "Job" gear, so if it's just to see the gear in the intro cinematic you can do that without having to leave character creation. -
Hello and welcome! There was a thread with a bunch of helpful links somewhere around here, but it seems to have vanished. I'll update this post with a link to it if I find it. It's not the one I was thinking of but I'll link this for now: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1821 It has a lot of useful links among it, the wiki is also great if you're trying to find out more about the lore of the game. As for the thread I was thinking of I don't know what happened to it, I get told I don't have permission to view it when I try to backtrace my history.

Probably not but they have announced from the live letter that you will be able to buy game cards. ok how do i us those? sorry im not new at rp also mmos as well You go to a games store and buy a physical item called a game time card, which has a code on the back that you redeem on their site to get more game time.

Well, I'd assume RPers in general will realise the reason Roe names look the way they do, so that shouldn't really be an issue. As for in general, the way I think about it is if the first name has something easily abbreviated to a short nickname (which yours has), it isn't an issue. Might just be in my experience but people very rarely refer to someone by their surname, so that being more of a mouthful is less of an issue. Then again, if you don't want random people to abbreviate your first name to a short nickname you're pretty much out of luck, because people really like to shorten things.

NOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! Now I have no choice but to deal with my character's sub-par appearance and embarrassing name for at least a week of game time... (Btw, I take it changing race is not an option?) You'll be able to change race, gender, clan, appearance, birth day, patron, name, and starting city all when they let us remake our characters. Basically you'll get to completely remake your character as if you were making a brand new character while keeping all of your current levels. Aside from that he also spoke briefly about one of the veteran bonuses being a character remake voucher, which he said would let you change appearance / race. -
Yoshida did say that you can reset your attributes, but as far as I understood he heavily implied that it was costly enough that you would not want to do it on a regular basis. Think the words he used was along the lines of "It's not like you'll be a scholar today, a summoner tomorrow, and then a scholar again the day after."

Early Access/Pre-Order Registration codes?
Eve Malusion replied to Felix Sideris's topic in FFXIV Discussion
As far as I am aware the EU square enix store has not sent out codes for digital sales for anyone (at least for the collector's edition). I bought it in the EU store as well and have received nothing. -
Thank you for pointing that out. I can confirm he did say that they share it after the break, also going to go edit the main post in the thread I made about the letter.

Yep, the requirement to make a FC is 25. This is one of the major complaints against the cap being at 20, though it's just for 3 days so it's not the end of the world.
