If they do that, I will organise a protest in game to demand the NPC's death We can all abuse the DoT dungeon glitch to kill our characters in cities and get enough people to spell something out with our corpses. Though it would not be unlike a Japanese game to almost kill a character, and then kill them JUST WHEN YOU THINK THEY'RE SAFE.

Papalymo is going to die. Dark horse option, Kan-E. Though I swear to CHRIST if they 'kill' someone and then bring them back in the first half of 4.0 I will be posterior pained.

In the spirit of the holidays, it is time to determine yet again another supreme victor of a brutal battle. Hedge your bets wisely. There can be only one. Nameday Cake Attack: 3/5 Defense: 3/5 Special: 3/5 The classic cake. A universal appeal. Nice as it may be, however, this cake can be wily indeed. Will its unique ability to inflict either immense excitement or terrible embarrassment upon its receiver lead it to victory, or leave it to be overshadowed? Can Nameday Cake overcome its normalcy to stand above the rest? Valentione's Cake Attack: 5/5 Defense: 1/5 Special: 3/5 He's going all out! A risky competitor. High stakes, and immense rewards if a victor. If he fails, however, the lowest of lows await him, and all those that placed their hopes on him. Seductive though he may be, one swift rejection will leave him reeling. Can this chocolatey charmer prevail with an all-out attack? Starlight Cake Attack: 2/5 Defense: 4/5 Special: 3/5 Starlight Cake is never an unwelcome sight. Lifted to great heights due to her rare appearances, she represents steadfastness and a willingness to carry on, no matter the obstacles. Will Starlight Cake's determination be enough to see her prevail? Will Starlight be doomed should she fail? Cake Tray Attack: 2/5 Defense: 3/5 Special: 4/5 A unique competitor. Though a hivemind it does not share, each cake allows Cake Tray to consider all options, from the mundane to the esoteric. Each cake is unique, coming with its own strengths and weaknesses. Will Cake Tray's lofty sense of superiority be able to raise it to new heights? Hard Rice Cakes Attack: 1/5 Defense: 5/5 Special: 3/5 It's hard. It's ready. Whether or not Hard Rice Cakes actually qualifies allows it to mire its opponents in arguments of semantics. Its iron defense is legend, and its unique appearance is intimidating enough to cuisine casuals. Will anyone be able to pierce its hard exterior to find a soft and squishy inside? Eternity Cake Attack: 1/5 Defense: 1/5 Special: 7/5 Well. Xe's something. Some say none have yet to truly understand the complexity behind Eternity Cake's incredible appearance. Garish. Sublime. Avant-garde. Xe is an enigma, not even xir supporters fully understanding the nature behind this beast. Will the risk be worth the reward? Is this shit even edible? Vote Now

Here's some unsolicited advice. If you're not happy with your interpretation of the tone of a text post, just imagine this guy is reading it. [video=youtube] It helped me! If I had the big buckaroos I'd hire him to read every post I make on this site, Just In Caseā¢.

I understand the analogy you're going for here, but comparing crying about not finding RP to threatening suicide is absolutely asinine. I'm pretty sure the person you're quoting wasn't implying they should tailor their character for other people? I don't think a single person in this thread has given the thumbs up on that one, dude. Think what they are trying to get across is that people should RP what they are good at (and humans tend to enjoy things they are good at) and comfortable doing.
-
The only RP macro I have is '/em slaps on the ass. "Get in there."' I use it exclusively for PvE though so I guess that doesn't count.
-
Would be nice if they let us toggle off the display of the floaty-thingy like you can toggle off the appearance of Gauss Barrel. Probably not, though. Edda knows how to use a rapier, mostly for show of course, so I'm ready to hit this job up ASAP (somewhat) ICly... inb4 the job is basically WoL exclusive lore-wise ala White Mage. Ripperoni and cheese. Most likely not going to happen. I hope.
-
Pls make it ancient Ala Mhigan sport pls No seriously tho, I hope they add it Make PvP Great Again! Although in all seriousness I cannot imagine how hectic and hellish real time 100% PCs Blitzball would be.
-
Blitzball when?

I could be wrong since I can't read, but I don't think anyone's actually said 'don't' go to public events to make contacts. Most people have simply been advising against it. Which is pretty reasonable. It's not easy to do for a bunch of reasons - people attending large events with their friends and wanting to focus on that, immense chat scroll, wallflower vs. wallflower (like two ships in the night...), etc. If you're hedging your bets on making strong lasting contacts at a massive RP event, chances are you're going to end up getting frustrated and let down. It's not impossible, but it's a poor place to start.
-
Don't do this. Commit to one character. That is your biggest problem. Making lasting contacts via large events is usually futile. Contact people you find interesting privately and schedule RP with them. This might take some trial and error. Keep throwing yourself at people you mesh well with and their friends. If you're compatible, then you will be able to join their clique, and then you too can stand around at events in a tight-knit group of people.

This. If the problem is quest bloat and just overall game design, charging people to 'skip all that' is stupid as all hell. Doesn't even matter how expensive they are - 5, 10, 20, nobody should have to pay to get past the drawn out and monotonous parts of the game. Condense the MSQ and cut out all the filler fetch quests (this would take a crap ton of work though so that will never happen). Lock expansion content behind level and not MSQ progress. Remove MSQ requirements entirely. Or, alternatively, gate stuff behind only the x.0 MSQ. Allow people the option to do x.1 and on MSQ if they want, but a quick summary and an option to bypass slogging through 10 extra hours of drawn out story. I don't know. Something. Anything. Anything but 20$ jump potions.

Looking at the old scripts and storyboards for Versus 13 and its two planned sequels, it makes me a bit sad. Cramming two games into one never does good things for the story (though it could have been worse with 3, the beginning of the series being re-purposed into Kingsglaive). There were a lot of characters from the earlier trailers that I was looking forward to seeing more of, only to find that they were barely in the game at all. It's still a fun game though, despite being an unfinished one. That's just the norm these days, sadly. God forbid you did it before every console had an internet connection. Still, the characters were endearing and I enjoyed the combat system. Fishing though. My god. I could do that shit for hours. Even Justice Monsters 5... It's like Final Fantasy X all over again. When the minigame can stand to be more compelling than the actual game itself. Now the question is: Will I live long enough to see Final Fantasy 16?

I absolutely agree with K'nahli on just how taboo OP's setup is. Unrequited love with her twin brother that she rarely, if ever, brings up? It's not as if she's being forced into an incestuous relationship by her brother/father/uncle, etc. It's not exactly common, no, but as far as 'mature themes' go it's pretty tame. OP, you seem to have a good head on your shoulders and have a pretty good idea on how to handle this. Like others said, so long as you don't turn it into a Japanese Light Novel, the few people that do find out about it ICly/OOCly should have no trouble rolling with it, and those that do... well, screw 'em. You've already seem to have given it a lot of thought in how you are going to handle/present it and what impacts it will have on your character, which sounds golden to me. Godspeed.

Question on rp and the possible multiverse
Edda replied to Thecrystalprelude's topic in RP Discussion
Vaan also shows up as a bonus character in Final Fantasy Tactics, which takes place hundreds and hundreds of years after Final Fantasy 12. Same world, so is it multi-verse or time travel in his case? What about far-out multi-verse examples in the form of Kingdom Hearts? How do the FF7 characters retain their relationships and personalities with the absence of Gaia? Why did YRP turn into tiny flying fairies? Why and how does Sora show up in World of Final Fantasy? Anyway, what I'm trying to say is... where do you draw the line between multi-verse and just plain old fan service? Just something to think about. -
I don't think they should be a thing. I understand their purpose in countries like China, where the subscription model is different, but anywhere else - no thank you. Whether it's skipping to 50/60 or just getting a pass through MSQ, new players should have to do it all. I would be fine with a one character, one job boost ala Legion when we're six expansions deep, but we're nowhere near that point as of yet. That being said... bypassing MSQ restrictions on alts should absolutely be a thing. Have a character that's max level and already done X amount of MSQ? Then any alts on that account should be able to waltz into Ishgard in their level one skivvies(they'll still have to level of course). I also think that should be standard, not the result of some $10 potion. But that will never happen.

The One True Wish. Also partition doors IN STYLES OTHER THAN RIVIERA. IT'S BEEN FORTY YEARS, SQUARE.

I've been wondering the same myself, OP. As far as I know there are no FCs or Linkshells that focus on doing actual work there, though given the expansive RP community on Balmung and the rate at which FCs crop up and flicker out, I could be wrong. As you say it's pretty much only a hotspot for hot springs RP, which seems like a waste considering how large and detailed that area is. I was thinking of holding some kind of wine and beer garden fundraising event for the area (original idea do not steal), though that isn't quite what you had in mind... I'm sure you're not the only person with such an interest though, so looking out for FCs and linkshells that specialize in healing might be a great place to go in order to get something started. Best of luck!

Until they start using Spoken. Miqo'te Tail Belts. Au Ra Tail Belts. *hides tail* Hahaha... ha... hm! Ah, yep, yes... That would, uh, certainly be... tragic...

Oh my god these are amazing. Taxidermist should absolutely be an in-game job.

Questions about Dark Knight and Darkside's nature.
Edda replied to Kallera's topic in Lore Discussion
I think that's a pretty unfair assessment, and a bit hypocritical as well, considering your explanation of your own characters' creation. I wouldn't like to think that you consider the conception of your character to be pointless and done only for the sake of ~not being a special snowflake~. Actually, I hope you don't. I see no issue with someone playing a character that skirts the line of being some job, without actually being one (since as we know, even the most common soul crystals don't exactly grow on trees). I also see no issue with one such character eventually coming across a soul crystal and taking up the mantle, as your character did. Whether that happens or not is at the RPers discretion. But I fail to see the logic in saying someone who RPs as Average Joe McDarkKnight Lite is only doing so to avoid being a special snowflake? Maybe I'm missing something. Either way this is egregiously off-topic, so I apologize in advance for this. Good luck, OP. -
I can't stand it myself, but I understand the reasoning for it. On the bright side, you have many more chances to take that perfect sunset screenshot.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Edda replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Ran floors 21-30 of PotD the other day. There was a SCH in the group. After two floors I inspected him and yep, this was definitely a job he had at 60. Why did I think to check? Because all he did. The entire run. Was cast Ruin. Ruin 1. Didn't use Cleric Stance. Didn't use any dots. Didn't throw out a Leeches when people got hit by debuffs. Didn't even cast a single heal or buff. Just. Ruin 1. The whole time. Also he died to basilisk circle aoe. Three times. Explain this. -

Nah, I find DPSing on WHM with a bad tank is a lot easier, since you can just Eye for an Eye + Divine Seal + Regen + Asylum (if applicable) and just go to town with Holy. They'll go down during the first cast but with stuns going out the hots will generally knock them right back up to full. Admittedly I am much better at WHM than I am at SCH, but ever since they changed Lustrate I don't feel I can rely so heavily on Eos with bad tanks as I used to. -

Sure, when they use it. Edit: Thanks, phone. But yeah, there was none of that. Don't get me wrong it's not like I wasn't able to throw out some full-dotted Banes on each pull, I just wasn't able to do so as much as I usually like to. I'm fine with big pulls, but this kid was getting shit on constantly (no CDs... hrk). Should have gone as a WHM. Oh well... hindsight etc.
