Well I never thought it would grow this much, but we have made it for mains only (no alts) and I expect we will look at inactive people. There is only one answer after that, which is a second LS, and we would have to think how we make that work. I would not say events have to go through the LS though, it is just a place to share information and stuff. We do announce the events posted on the calender here which I thinks help remind folks. Hope that helps?

Missed out and Unsure about how to interact with RPers anymore
Nebbs replied to Aldotsk's topic in RP Discussion
Don't know what's going? Haven't got a clue about the detail of the lore? Hoping to not say the wrong thing? Then you are in luck! With our simple three step programme you can turn these weaknesses to your advantage. Yes, just a simple three step programme, that's free (send no money now). Step 1 - Don't Panic. No one else knows what is going on.. honestly. Each person has their view of what is going on but unless it is a scripted story it will vary from person to person. Certainly when you take random people chances are they know little or nothing about the others. Step 2 - People want to interact. Most people like interaction and would love to tell you some of their issues. All you need to do is find a way to break the ice. You can prepare some opening RP Picup lines if that helps. The point is that many will take the little hook you offer and pull you in, if not just try another person/group. If this still sounds scary, pick on one of those who put their hands up in this topic, or join one of the linkshells or a FC and people will help. Step 3 - Set your character to confused. All these worries can all be explained away by IC not knowing. You don't have to play a know it all wise sage expert super slick character. You can play the new in town, some what confused, looking for friends type. In fact as people love to explain their plots/story being the sort that asks questions means they do all the hard work. Tip: Ask "open questions" to pull out longer answers. Practice this sort of thing and you too can gain confidence to do walk up RP, fit into random conversations and get a reputation as someone who is good to chat to. There is a lot more that could be said but the main thrust is accept you don't know IC and use it. -
Things that might get you there: Kidnapped by fairies Teleportation accident Seeking out one of Ilwe's famous designer dresses, or exotic dancer outfit In need of a witch or a bard Burred treasure map when all this land was fields.. and the treasure is under the house

LC is a very small FC of friends. There is really only Ilwe'ran and Nebula who RP. So this is one attempt to help with wider RP. Ilwe does all the work and Nebbs just tags along with random ideas. Ilwe spent ages crafting furniture and designing layouts so expect each event to be in well appointed surroundings.

It had not really occurred to me, but now you point it out I see (hear) it. I have no information on how it was done. Slightly related: In SWTOR the whole of the Imperial side was voiced by British accents, some quite broad.. including Welsh and Scottish. One soldiers description with a Welsh accent of a Sith and his interest in ergonomic chairs is still on of my fun dialogues in the game.

Ta for the insight. I shall give it a try.

For me the question is.. should I empty out an linkshell slot for this?

On a poll of one of those named as leaders, it seems to be inactive with the owner of the linkshell MIA.

*Update* Just a note on how things are going. We currently have 78 members, so still some room. [Edit, as of 3rd Set 14, we have over 90 members] Good coverage around the clock. We regularly flag the events posted on this forum to remind folks. RP discussions are frequent and there is some other subjects talked about. At times it is quiet but speak up and you generally get interaction from a great group of people.

How about something with a purpose. So off the top of my head... Save the Shroud, come and meet fellow folk who feel that action is needed to fight back against the things that are destroying the shroud. From Gridana focusing elsewhere to direct invasion by imperials. Tea Cake and positive action.

I would like if I may to take you on a strange journey. It seemed a fairly ordinary night when this fine gentleman left Ul'dah late that evening to visit the quiet mansion of some friends. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b155/pmsphoto/Final%20Fantasy/38a55663-dc1b-44bb-a264-41e6ca81222b_zpse5951530.png[/img] It's true there were dark storm clouds, heavy, black and pendulous, toward which he headed. It's true also his Chocobo was rented and uneasy in the storm, his own being stabled with injury. But he was a man of the world and on a night out, he was not going to let a storm spoil the events of his evening. It was a night out he was going to remember for a very long time. Coming across the mansion, it seemed that fortune had smiled on this gentleman and that he found the assistance that his plight required - or had he?

*GOOD NEWS* We have just combined members from the long running Intermission linkshells. As a result we will be instigating the following to make things more manageable: 1. No Alt members. Unfortunately we are limited to 128 spaces so we want to have the space for people to join. Can you please remove any alts? 2. Rationalised Leaders (people who can invite/kick). We started out by making all a leader while we got going. This will now be paired back to a few to make it more manageable. Please don't take this to mean any kind of status or issue, it is just logistics. Any questions just ask, this is your LS and your RP. And "Welcome to those from Intermission!"

On the subject of "Tight, Committed, Closed, Ranked Raid groups" vs "Open diverse, part time associated groups" I have played both, and for pure progression I'd go for the committed group/guild. However, we are RPers and looking for semi-organised PvE. One of the best things I was part of was a Raid association, where small Guilds and Individuals joined and came together for scheduled raid. There were no server 1st's but as someone committed to an RP guild that did not raid I managed to keep up with the end game. In FFXIV we have linkshells that should make this kind of semi-organised groups work. The few I know tried soon became stale... I'm unsure what the answer is.

I know the feeling being an old PvE/PvP obsessed person I still feel the pull. But in the end RP is more rewarding for me. And with limited time RP gets top pick. As RPers we are unlikely to be at the top of end game just due to the hours needed, but for those who want we should be able to "get there". I have slowly made it past T6, through use of PuGs to learn then often some friends for the tougher wins (eg Titan, T5). Though T6 & Ramuh I PuGed and got lucky. So it is doable, and if you can spare the time a "static" may work for you. I think ideally you wouln need to look at an RP guild that has some PvE in it and helps members along. I have done this in other games and that works well as long as the PvE is a secondary activity. In the end you have to put the work in to be able to do the latest end game, or wait for the echo assist. Try some of the LS for PvE or some FCs do open Raid nights. Myself I get the urge, go for it and then end up in a PuG of nightmares (attitudes not skill) and run back to my RP, even crafting looks fun compared to some PuGs.

With WTFast (there are others) I get around 100ms from UK for FFXIV.
-
In my view: Most things PvE but knowing that they are also RPers. I find it not Not hardcore PvE though some people there do have end game experience. Generally a good helpful shell.
-
For those wanting to join: I keep looking for those who ask but also please poke someone in the LS and we will get an invite out.

Nebula rides her Chocobo, Blinky. They rescued each other from some gient crabs near Costa after one ran off with her sun hat. Since then they have been best friends. here is a pic of them.. Blinky is the one with his eyes shut.

Miss Hornet, there is much that could be said on this but I will offer one view. Work out what you like best from those who are the Active RPers, even note it down, and then make that your goal. Do for others as you want them to do for you. You may find that there are some differences. here are some basic ones I think such as: Active - has an idea where things will go or how things relate "cause & effect" Reactive - responds to what is there with an intent to cause progression Active - speaks little, adds in information and description Reactive - speaks a lot, proposes ideas, examines the information available Active - adapts the consequences to fit the actions occurring Reactive - responds to things after they happen
