  1. I will keep an eye out for your character and feel free to send anyone on the list a tell.
  2. Not wanting to tell you what to play but my take on this would be to play a junior officer who is fresh to the job and very inexperienced. There is more RP fun in being the underdog/victim in many ways.
  3. Hmm I'm thinking basketball dribbling.
  4. Oh one addition from me (could not resist).. To all you Bards.. Keep sharp your rapier like wit
  5. This is not uncommon, and is just a specific example of RP without consensus. You are expecting other players to accept your character and the implied position and authority... also consequences. I think there are two ways you can take this. You can find a group of people who are willing to accept this and thereby have the consensus, or you have to find a way to play your concept so that it does not require the agreement of others. In this latter one you limit the consequences of your character action to exclude others and just offer an invitation to take your action on board. So rather than summoning the guards to arrest them you make the call, find they are otherwise occupied and make a report instead. In a way it is not power emoting your character and giving people the option, without backing yourself into a corner. Another way I have seen this done is to create a group who all play the "law" and then be present in the game. Over time people come to accept you and will come to you for help. This also comes with a warning that in Open RP peoples styles will vary and you need to be able to dance between them all. To summarise, you have to be fleet on your RP feet and always leave the consequences of your actions open to people to take as they will, and have a way to back away from any adverse power emoting or trolling actions others may put in your way. Hope that helps a little?
  6. I know of a few linkshells with members, so there are definitely people there and active. What is missing is the activity in the Linkshell and between the members. There are many reasons why people are not engaging, and I myself am guilty of heavy RP with a very small group. But it seems there are people who would respond.. we just have to try. As I write this (11:30am UK) I have 8 Linkshels and a FC. The only activity is from the Hunt LS. Yes it is Monday morning, but not much changes through the day, and at best it becomes "chat" rather than "RP". I'll try a bit harder to interact, and hope others can too. *hands out RP cake as inducement*
  7. (at the risk of wandering off topic a little) That's an interesting point. It is good to not leave other players stories tied into your character if they won't be around (ie you moved on as a player). So find some way to tie things up so they (other player's characters) are free to go their own way.
  8. Well, maybe try this.. I have done it a few times. Imagine rolling forward many years to when your character in in their twilight years. Think about the life they have lead and the legacy they have created. Then think about how they got there and how much the grew along the way. I even wrote the scene of the old grandmother tucking her granddaughter in and telling her another of her far fetched tales, that are the story of her life. I suppose I am saying that stopping to play a character does not mean death, and in fact that seems a daft ooc reason for them to die. If they have reached the end of a chapter, then give them a rest maybe?
  9. The blue floppy brim of the witche's hat pulled back its shadow from the beach pool, letting the mid day sun once more light up the tiny crabs that scurried within. "So there will be a gathering, and soon it seems. Many currents mingling will likely stir up many waves. We should be at this, we should see if any whirlpools form." The crabs continue to scurry as the witch tromps off chewing a piece of seaweed, "Hmm a lucky day, I think it will rain soon."
  10. Bryn I agree, especially with this bit above. There is activity, there is desire, so a little "catalyst" should hopefully go a long way. I'm not talking about major extravaganza style events, more just accommodating the EU dimension with a little effort.
  11. In answer I made a topic http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=7995
  12. Aimed at those looking for RP connections, or just new to Balmung In response to various asks for RP connections I thought I would scan the Linkshells from this forum and pull out a sample of Linkshells available. I hope this helps. I have stuck to the general/open non FC shells and left out those with specific induction or FC requirements. RP - General/Looking For Europa (EU RPers) LINK Open RP (RP connections) LINK RP - Location/Event Lominsan Society (Limsa based RP) LINK Piquant Pumpkin Cafe (RP Tavern/Event) LINK The Quicksand Appreciation Society (Tavern) LINK RP - Race/Role Broken Chairs (Roegadyn only) LINK The Courtesan Coalition (Courtesans only) LINK The Lynxshell (Seekers - Lynx tribe only) LINK PvE - worth a mention Balmung's Finest (PvE) LINK
  13. I would suggest checking out the linkshel list in these forums, there are some active ones for RP connections. And yay RP! Welcome to the server
  14. We came we wiped then we Killed Coil T5. I didn't get a party shot so here is me.
  15. Just a note on Leaders. While we get going I have made everyone a leader, but my intention is to shortly pair this back on some basic guides of what I know and trying to ensure each FC has some coverage. The main aim of the leader status in the LS is to invite and should it come to it act when someone is so out of line it needs action.
  16. As way of a reminder. And for Levi you can try the normal mode and avoid slides into the barriers and the aoe, not the best training but less stress to let you see what is going on.
  17. Gosh.. yes, and I'll start with Bard - weapon bow called "Sorrow" This was a bow of legend that came to be owned by her Farther, who took it from a Siren. He and the Siren battled a number of time before it was lost at sea. Nebula had a long RP that took Months to go through, involving the Ghost Whale and eventually facing down the Siren in a final battle. I had the bow broken so she still does not have it, only the pieces. Paladin - weapon sword Nebula uses a captured Garlean sword as it is strong yet lite. It is probably quite capable and special, she just knows it works well for her. I use te Lightning Sword for this image of sword Casting - various focus Nebula feels the weapons casters use are just to help focus, so she has them but they are basic in nature.. like a twig for conjurer. Other weapons are just mundane.
  18. I am keeping a (macro) eye out for people interested and feel free to ask one of those already in the LS for an invite. We are growing slowly.
  19. England.. close enough to Yorkshire for me Yes we have people from EU ans well as NA.
  20. The song only matches in title.. but hey, what ya gona do? Think PvP RTjC6rxHz8g
