  1. I would imagine that you most certainly could. Granted I'm not an expert when it comes to Dark Knight lore or anything of that nature, but as someone else pointed out on the boards here a time ago, they seem more emotion-based than anything. Their powers come from within. I could easily see someone RPing an "evil" Dark Knight that thoroughly believes in what they're doing and still quite capable of manifesting their powers.

    Greetings.

Heeey! My RP start was also in the Yahoo groups It's good to see someone else from there coming to XIV! Welcome to the game and Balmung! Hopefully we'll be able to run into each other sometime =)
  3. You forgot & for when your character is using conjunctions and combining things together.

    *Wave* Hello!

Hello there! Welcome to the RPC and, eventually, Balmung
  5. Hello there! I don't think your in-game class/job really should matter if you just want to say your character is a builder. I feel that whatever the game character is doesn't necessarily have to mean your character is that. Really, just play what you want to play until you get to MCH. I think Archer has some cross-class skills with MCH, so that may be your best bet if you want some sort of utility to use alongside your MCH abilities =)
  6. You know you can always ask me to RP as well :v
  7. It was very different. You could walk into a bar and there would be Werewolves from Werewolf: the Apocalypse, Castlevania vampires, Super Saiyans, characters from Final Fantasy games, Drizzt Do'urdin, homebrew characters that had no relation to any established setting, etc, all in the same room having random conversations. No one questioned anyone else, and most people had 6-7 characters at any one time. People often played their own relatives, etc. Like you both said, it was a pretty unique and wonderful thing to watch and observe. People just got along! Most of the time. If arguments did occur, more often than not it was taken to private and people that hated each other usually kept away from one another. And even then, with e erything so varied, a lot of them acted on a similar mindset. People could stand up/defend themselves against others so long as they had a good reason to say they did so. I spent MOST of my time in an offshoot, sub-RP of Ayenee known as Nerima. I still talk to a few of the people from it.
  8. Nnnnnngggghhh Lia my favorite ;-; I love those things so much.
  9. I have to agree with this. I have a couple that clash but get along more often than not, a couple that just do not work together but manage to somehow find a way to, and a couple that are absolutely sweet and lovey on one another. Of them all, the last couple is the least enjoyable. It's not that I don't like them; I really do! It's just that they don't find themselves really spurring on much RP because they just.. well. Get along. I also have another couple that are enemies-turned-sweethearts, and it's pretty entertaining.
  10. Homosexual relations are not demonstrably looked down upon in lore. All signs point to the opposite, in fact. Mixed race couples, however, are freaks civilized society does not tolerate. And where is your proof to back up the latter? You're using Ishgardians as proof? The xenophobes of XIV? Hahaha.
  11. I have a roe free for a lalafel mate  come at me No you don't get out go away I MIGHT YOU DON'T KNOW

  13. There are some people that don't need this kind of encouragement. It may give them the nerve to be honest about their intentions rather than creeping around :v
  14. Apparently all things are possible. Yes.
  15. I saw a thread that stated that because two/four exceptions to the rule exist, it must be okay to say that Miqo'te dragoons exist. Much like how I say that because they've specifically said some things are not canon, others must not be.
  16. Let's not kid ourselves. One example is really all you need. No, one example is all /You/ need. Get it straight. You're not the arbiter of lore for everyone. Okay, then allow me to rephrase: the fact that one exists opens the idea that others may possibly exist. Whether you choose to agree with that is on you, but it doesn't discount that it's there. If that logic makes sense to you, it should not seem unreasonable to assume that the flavor text does point in the direction of possible vampire myths existing, just maybe not necessarily the creature itself. I'm not necessarily saying it doesn't. However, until it is seen in game, I don't think people really have grounds to grab it and run and say it exists. It's like blindly groping with Allagan lore. Sooner or later it will either be confirmed kr denied, and then you'll have major retcons to face for the character.
  17. We've seen a single instance of a group of localization team members, none of whom are in a position of authority, give personal opinions during a private lunch conversation about one of the most mechanically dubious objects available on the cash shop. You're gonna need a bit more evidence than that to start throwing around words like "ample". I'm personally not a fan of IC Fantasia, but let's not misrepresent facts here. Let's not kid ourselves. 18. I had honestly never used it until I came to XIV, where I noticed almost everyone doing it as early as launch. I don't get all uppity if someone doesn't, though. It comes off more as a style to me than anything. For whatever reason, I've adjusted to it and kind of prefer it now.

  20. How is the claim that it isn't canon any more shaky than the claim that it is canon? We've seen ample evidence that flavor text can be non-canon, just as I'm sure there are examples of things such as questlines or dialogue confirming something asserted in the flavor text of an item. I mean the problem with this thought is that it even implies the /name/ isn't canon. A name is a name, and this isn't our world. They could name a chair a bridge and it wouldn't make it the bridge we know. It'd still be a chair.
  21. Idunno, it's in the flavor text. It could be canon, we don't know and no argument against ot or in favor of it holds any real weight. You can bet your ass someone actually canonically has sleipnir ICly in the RP community. Oh yeah, I really don't doubt it. And I don't doubt somewhere someone has single-handedly beaten Bahamut either.
  22. Not at all, I was simply seeking clarity. The fact that you have chosen to refuse to allow those people to succeed, when the only lore we have explicitly mandates that they would, proves my point however. I'm not sure what you're trying to imply with this? Ultimately, people can RP what they want. I just reserve the right to avoid them. Do I avoid miqo'te dragoons? Nah. Do I find it silly? Kinda. You do you, cupcake.
  23. Idunno, it's in the flavor text.
  24. Or how there's no lore justifying the existence of a Hyur/Miqo'te pairing that doesn't end in them getting run out of town? Someone's salty :v People actually have tried to run my character out. Unlike some people, I welcome it Also: "Blessed by the elder primal himself, Sleipnir will forever remain loyal to those who have proven themselves worthy. In addition to being fearless in battle, the dark steed is also able to manipulate his corporeal form to accommodate any rider, large or small." According to this flavor text, I have a super OP horse blessed by Odin himself. Sweet. "Summon forth Twintania, an ancient wyvern who secretly dreams of freedom...and devouring you. Bound to eternal thralldom via an Allagan neurolink, this ancient wyvern from the southern continent of Meracydia will remain a loyal servant as long as you possess its identification key." And I get to control Twintania!!!11
  25. This is what I'm getting at. Flavor text =/= truth, as it has been used not only in XIV, but many other games and things to add.. well. Flavor. If you don't have sound lore, you shouldn't be going to the flavor text to find it like some kind of starved crack-fiend. It's the fault of the devs for not making it clear and abundant. The fact that one case of joke flavor text exists means that others must. Multiple items mention "vampire" in some form, complete with the trappings of the myth as we know it. It's not exactly the same case of Fantasia, which isn't referenced by anything else. Sure, we could say the cephalapod is joke flavor text, but the vampire fish? Reference to vampire bats? The term "vampire" had to come from somewhere, and not all of those descriptions get silly joke language in them. We have no hard confirmation, but we have multiple soft ones, coming from things that are completely unrelated and all showcasing the same themes. The term "vampire" could easily just be taken as a name because of its real-world denotation. It's easy to recognize and you know immediately what it entails. Until an actual vampire pops up somewhere, all we have remotely close to that are voidsent that prey on aether. This, of course, has been offered to the OP countless times but it wasn't good enough.
