  1. Can we all please refrain from snarky attitudes and/or arguments about differing styles? This is starting to get off topic from the OP's question. Thanks.
  2. One can still socialize with others without voice related chat. Most have been doing it for years no problem . It's a comfort thing.
  3. I voted no personally. I've never been a fan of voice chat. In my experience, it only strengthens the whole "clique" mentality further and makes people feel left out. Back in my FFXI days, I knew a group of people who used it during RP events all the time. I didn't (and several other members didn't) and we had no desire or need to. As such, we felt left out of a lot of things and those who were in the voice chat slowly got viewed as an impenetrable clique until they eventually stopped using it. So to summarize, I think it does more harm than good. That's just me though.
  4. With the poll only 11 days away now (assuming no announcement comes from SE by then), I want to stress to people to start researching their selection (though I urge you to not "campaign" or anything). Apparently, Behemoth and Leviathan have been touted by other Rpers already. I think Moogle was also a contender at one time. I have heard little of other servers in regards to RP activity. The poll will be up in the RP Discussion forum (along with an announcement at the top of the forums on all pages about it). Everyone will get one vote and will NOT be able to change it like was possible in the 2010 vote. Thus, make it count. The poll will be heavily moderated to ensure nothing goes wrong. I also want to encourage ONLY non-Balmung people to vote. This won't be enforced or anything, but it's only fair to let those who want their own server to make their own decisions. This will be THEIR community after all, and its success or failure is on their shoulders. It will also help reveal the amount of interest in a secondary server. All non-Japanese, non-Legacy servers will be in the poll (including European ones).
  5. I may have missed the posts (hard to keep up with the forums these days ><), but I believe the no transfer thing was only in regards to this weekend's test. SE is testing 1.0 character importing and wants to ensure that things are stable before allowing transfers to the legacy servers. In general (sometime after phase 3), transferring to legacy servers will be no problem according to SE's past posts. It's just for this weekend's test that it's not allowed.
  6. Gerik did a draft sketch that I love~ Hopefully someone can eventually use it to make a final draft! <3 Gerik
  7. I don't have a proper image for House Felstar due to not having the graphical abilities to make one. But I'll give a description at the very least! House Felstar's crest is the etched image of a five-pointed star draped in upside down angel wings and wrapped in an elegantly designed circular pattern. Kinda fancy I guess, but that's what I settled on quite some time ago
  8. That is hilarious and awesome at the same time. I wouldn't know how to react if I saw an NPC utter anything about one of us
  9. Kylin Felstar's Story (stay behind) I still recall the horror brought forth on the day of the Calamity. Everyone was affected, be they rich or poor, old or young, charitable or wicked. House Felstar was no exception. Having fled to one of its tiny owned island estates beyond Eorzea, the family itself escaped unscathed by the destruction brought forth by Dalamud. But the youngest Felstar, Kylin, was hit hardest of them all. His lover, Gerik Aston, was believed to be dead. Kylin remained unable to contact him and was eventually forced to give up his search. Angered at his father for taking him away from Eorzea, Kylin blamed the Felstar patriarch for Gerik's loss. The young man disowned the family and lived the next cycle alone in an Ul'dahn inn room, where he indulged in various "activities" to pass the time and make him forget the agony he was in. Even as House Felstar moved into the recovering Ul'dah, Kylin kept himself cut off from the family. But Cartius Felstar was always a clever manipulator. He sought out his daughter, Elza Ashfen, who had left Eorzea on House Mavanix's Scarlet Siren ship immediately following the total destruction of the Mavanix clan. He persuaded his daughter to return to the family by appealing to her own desires as well as her concern for Kylin. Elza would then approach Kylin and slowly bring him back into the family. House Felstar was on the rise. Cartius regained old family assets, including assets from the fallen House Mavanix. The patriarch even published numerous texts to detail the horrors of House Mavanix's many old secrets, gaining tremendous sympathy and support from other nobles that further helped bolster House Felstar. He appointed Elza as the head of the house's public relations, and she and Sanctum oversaw numerous charity projects that would help strengthen the house further. Kylin was appointed head of the newly acquired Avalon Heritage Museum. Life became stable within the house and all was well for some time. There are rumors that Kylin fell in love again when his sister arranged a date for him with a friend of hers. Who the individual was remains a mystery to me. But it's said that the love story ended in Kylin's heart being broken once again, supposedly over his own paranoia and manipulations. The pain caused the young Felstar to mostly cut off his social ties and bury himself in his work. Some cycles later, Seraphine Felstar returned to the family as well. The details of how she turned back up in the family remain mostly unknown. She was believed to have been dead for quite some time. Some believe her return was a result of Cartius's doing somehow, though few know for sure. Regardless, the family was truly whole for the first time in many generations. While he had no social circles to speak of at this time, Kylin was over the moon to be surrounded by his loving family. Nearly five full cycles after the Calamity, things would change forever more. Those believed to be dead, friends and foes alike, began to resurface. What was stable quickly became unstable. A new chapter of the story emerged... ~House Felstar butler, to a young Felstar
  10. This is the continuation of the "Story So Far" segment from awhile back. Add your "story so far" below and you'll be added to the table of contents in this post. The purpose of this thread is to summarize recent events leading up to ARR's present day. For those who stayed behind for five years: You can write a summary of events that your character went through over the five years leading up to present day. For an extra challenge, try to write the summary IC as if someone in the future is telling your character's story! For those who time skipped: You can write a short story post in this thread showing your character's immediate arrival in the post-Calamity Eorzea and their first reaction to things. Note: You MAY want to wait until after this weekend to figure out how time skippers are being introduced to Eorzea via the cutscenes. Enjoy! Table of Contents: Dustyn Croft Exodus Artitas Hilario Bahamut John Spiegel Kylin Felstar Lren Rendarren Nikolai Petrilio
  11. My work schedule is going to prevent me from doing much this weekend. I'll be online early Friday and Saturday morning/early afternoon and that's it. So I'll mostly play around with my old characters and explore some more. But I do still have Zarik Sylvora on Gilgamesh just in case~
  12. Room for one more you ask? Room for one more?! Look around! There are people running amok all over the place! The barracks are over-flooded, nobody cleans up after themselves, and do you have any idea how expensive the bills are?! *Shouts into the hall behind the Welcome Desk* Deirdre, stop running with sharp objects! Gerik, don't put that in your mouth! Those drapes are for the gala, Shippuu! I swear to Rhalgr you better not be going commando under there! Shuck, give that other newcomer her cookie back! Why the hell is there so much fur floating around here?! *Tugs on his hair with a stressed look on his face before running out of the room screaming*
  13. As promised, the thread has been restored. I am keeping it locked, however, in order to avoid a continuation of the arguing that took place. In addition, this is all a moot point now anyway. I invite everyone to read this thread: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=2227
  14. Regarding Balmung Over three years ago, the RPC held a public poll in which Besaid was named the unofficial RP server. Following the game's rocky launch, Besaid was eventually merged into a new server: Balmung. Since then, we have remained supportive of Balmung as the unofficial RP server. We have held countless RP events, storylines, and have had numerous RP interactions with others here. Hundreds of RPers have been here. Many have also forged friendships with players who do not roleplay. The RPC remains dedicated to its support of Balmung and invites all new RPers to join us. SquareEnix has confirmed that non-Legacy members can join Legacy servers and we vow to be as helpful and welcoming as humanly possible to the new blood. Balmung has proven to be a stable breeding ground for RP and we look forward to the many years ahead of RP there. Regarding a Non-Legacy RP Server We recognize that there are some who simply do not want to join a Legacy server for their own reasons. While it pains many of us that we may not get to RP or interact personally with these individuals, we will continue to support them in their wishes if interest in this remains. As such, should we still hear nothing from SquareEnix by July 1st, we will hold a public poll on the RPC to allow non-Legacy RPers to select a secondary RP server. We will, however, continue to reiterate that our primary level of support will be geared toward Balmung. Should the public poll reveal a severe lack of interest in the concept of a non-legacy RP server (as in, less than maybe 20 or so total valid votes), we may have to reconsider our support. The public poll will last 24 hours and be heavily moderated to ensure there is no cheating (multiple accounts, etc). User registration will likely be at least partially restricted. We encourage only those who are NOT joining Balmung to take part in the poll. Only non-Legacy, non-Japanese servers will be capable of being voted on. The RPC's support of a secondary RP server, should the poll reveal enough interest, includes the following (this is all we're actually capable of): Official recognition. Should someone on this forum or an outside one ask for RP server information, we will give both Balmung and the secondary server (though again, Balmung may be more heavily emphasized most likely). An events subforum. We will split the Events section of the forum into two subsections - one for Balmung and one for the secondary RP server. Linkshell ads. All RP linkshells, regardless of server choice, are allowed (and technically always have been allowed) to post linkshell ads in the Linkshell Hall. Leaders' Roundtable access. This section will also be split into two subsections, one for each server. Let me emphasize that should either of the server subforums seemingly die out (such as going months without a single posted event and/or months without LS leader activity), we will have to reevaluate our support for a secondary RP server. While we will support the wishes of this group of RPers, it is ultimately up to them to make that server RP community flourish and remain active. All we can do at the RPC is help provide tools as necessary. We all look forward to creating many new memories within the RP community that will withstand the test of time, much like the memories many created in 1.0.

    Hello :D

*squeals* A Lost Boys member! I wasn't a member (was a Sylph RPer) but sometimes poked in on their site back in my XI days. Loved their site layout and was always fascinated with their style. Its former leader and core members created Order of the Stormguard back in 1.0's launch, which I dived into from the start. It hit several rough patches and is no longer around though ; ;. I'm still quietly hoping Keir and friends return to the game at the very least, as I loved RPing with them. Enough of my rambling though. Welcome!
  16. The name seems familiar to me. I think you may have been in the 1.0 RP tribute video back in our 2 year anniversary. I think I also saw you in Mog House back when it was around? Either way, welcome back!!
  17. The RPC remains staunchly committed to Balmung as the unofficial RP server. Though this stance could change within the next few weeks if SE throws a curveball, it is unexpected to change. That being said, we do intend to support those who have a strong urge to join a non-legacy RP server. As such, we will hold a poll here within the next couple weeks if SE remains silent on the server issue. A more detailed post is forthcoming tomorrow about this. We want to continue stressing that Balmung is still our primary commitment though. In terms of long term, it has already proven that it has a stable and loyal base of RPers who aren't going anywhere anytime soon. We can't guarantee the same thing will happen with a secondary server and invite all newbies to join us, as we will be very welcoming and helpful to them. It has been confirmed that non-legacy players CAN join Legacy servers. But we understand that some remain attached to the idea of a non-legacy RP server and will support them as needed. A post is coming tomorrow about this, so please look forward to it

    RP Server?

Yeah, if SE remains silent on the issue in a couple weeks still, we'll hold a quick poll for the non-legacy people who want a different RP server. Though this won't change the current majority from sticking to Balmung. Also, I think Lilzsee left this community after that last server debate. So I wouldn't advise contacting them as you'll get no response
  20. Kylin (mostly content with, though may still make minor tweaks):
  21. As far as I'm aware, they're supposed to send you a code via email in the nearish future. I may be mistaken though.
  22. If you listen very carefully, you can hear the horrid screams and curses coming from those who put countless hours of hamlet grinding into their relic quests...
  23. Regarding the NDA: From SE: "As of June 12, 2013, we grant you permission to disclose information regarding the Beta Test." You all may now discuss freely aspects of the beta test. Note that screenshots of anything from pre-phase 3, any video, and any audio are still prohibited to be posted on these forums. Disregarding this will result in a mod nuking any content and issuing a warning to the offending party. Continuous infractions can result in a temporary RPC account muting. Regarding Phase 3: Phase 3 (test 1) starts Friday morning at 5am ET and goes until June 16th at 5am ET. Old characters apparently do not transfer yet until the next weekend's test. This test is focused on server stability. Regarding Phase 3 Servers: For the first phases of beta, the RPC primarily was located on the Tonberry server. SE has now labeled it as a JP datacenter. As such, we may wish to select a NA/EU datacenter instead. Note: Our selection for this is NOT that important and will be null and void after this phase of the beta ends. So please, no arguing over it. NA/EU datacenter servers include: Adamantoise / Behemoth / Cactuar / Cerberus(*) / Coeurl / Goblin / Malboro / Moogle(*) Ultros / Diabolos / Gilgamesh / Leviathan / Midgardsormr / Odin(*) / Shiva(*) * EU recommended servers according to SE Edit: The "informal" decision seems to lean toward temporarily setting up camp on Gilgamesh for RP purposes. Again, this is only temporary until Balmung is restored and/or until SE names an official RP server.
  24. I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet. But a dev post was made on the official forums a few days ago regarding the drop of the NDA starting in phase 3. We'll bump this thread again when it actually goes into effect. Here's the official dev response:
