This place has been around for ages. Most of the Mateus RPers that trasnfered over know about it but they've just decided not to use/publicize it for whatever reason. It is the first link that comes up when you google for "FFXIV RP"

I know I'm a bit late to the replies, but it's been a hell of a week... While I have to kind of agree with the above. In that deal with the problem OOCly first. I have found, however, that if you have been rather social with the characters, a retcon just makes matters worse over time as you'll have to remind other people time and time again that certain events didn't happen. That swings you back into the OOC side of things and revisits old baggage. The easiest way to do it is to apply a little self godmodding. The mantra I've used in the past is for my character to reply to any question with "We parted ways. It's cool, don't worry about it." and OOCly adjusting your character to where they are cool with it (unless you want a bit more angst for your RP, that's up to you). The situation dies off a lot faster. It keeps a lot of things from recurring and questions about "what about this thing, did that happen? Well hell then this wouldn't have happened." that keeps you buried in mire so to speak. If people get insistent on digging for details send them an OOC ping at that point of "I don't want to deal with it." and often they'll just back off and change topics.

Libraries are usually pretty varied externally. I'd almost suggest take your choice of fountain as a centerpiece and put some benches around it. The Cold Knight's area is rather large and eats a ton of space, so I'd avoid that unless you push it over on the side. Alternatively you might find a tree that covers a lot of the firepit to give an illusion of benches around said tree? Other than that one of the things I've noticed about most library / faculty areas is there is often symmetry to the courtyard / front garden area. Focusing on that may help bring reference to the ordered nature of a science facility or library?

As someone who had a lot of social anxiety issues when he started with RP, it is a bit of a challenge. The old adage here of 'practice, practice, practice' holds true. Generally start slow, and if you have a friend you can lean on and bring with you it makes things a whole lot easier. Think of them as your anchor or training wheels. RP with them since they're a known quality. Work with them, and hit up some of the smaller events. Eventually it'll start to flow a bit better and you can take the training wheels off and go at it alone or go with them to larger and larger events. As above a good way to 'shield' yourself from normal social anxieties is to create a character that would be a bit less anxious then you are. Work through the character on getting them into situations where they have to deal with others. Just take it slow, take it one step at a time. You may never end up someone coordinating dozens of plot-lines and that's all right. Eventually with enough practice, however, you may find that anxiety starting to go away even out of game. Role-play is great therapy for this. One suggestion though, give your character a profession that can call on them at any point in time. This allows you to have an escape or an out from nearly any situation you find yourself in. Just emote lifting a hand to your link-pearl and say "Dammit, that's work, I've got to go.." and walk away. Good luck with whatever you end up doing with the character and in RP. I hope you find something that suits you.

Sorry for the long quote. I'm not very good with the mobile client. I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree about the Wench. You are correct, there is no requirement to entertain anyome regardless of locale. It's more a situational thing? The only issue I see with folks using common public locals for closed private RP is you're likely to get a goid bit of unwanted walkup RP that would just cause stress for all parties involved. It also kind of denies use of the area to others. An aside, one nifty thing about this game is there are a lot of customisable set pieces for RP that requires certain locales between housing, private rooms, and apartments, so if you need an empty bar, chances are one can be made or found. I should probably resurrect the publicly accessible venue list we used to maintain with the calendar. I know I still see a bunch of them advertised regularly. Something like that could help with avoiding style conflicts.

I think you've missed where I concede that private is not just "inside your house" but not in an active public venue. To quote myself from earlier today.... "Out in the field alone is not a public venue" referring to recent reply to Faye's small group scene out in the wilds. AKA: Don't expect a scene to be private RP if you start in a group of other people. If you're in the Drowning Wench with other people there, it's public. If you're in a back alley in Ul'dah with just your small crew (I think I mentioned that before). That's not a public scene. It's just you and your group.

That's more or less the analogy I was going for with the 'public thread' discriminator. Closed/Semi-open threads are a a good analogy for a non-public RP venue. AKA: Ask first. Open threads are akin to public RP venues. AKA: Hop in.

I think that works well for private venues. When you're in a public RP venue asking OOCly if people want to RP is redundant. It's the equivalent of going to a public discussion forum and having everyone expected to PM the original poster before they reply to a public thread.
