  1. A Realm Reborn/Heavensward did not advertise their game's content as having a portion that would be "added at a later date", though. Even the AAA industry has the courtesy to advertise its DLC before it screws us with it. They said, this is in your game, please look forward to it. Hell, even the fucking benchmark showed us the content present in the game, the AF2 armor for the Dragoon is right there! You can almost taste it! Did ARR advertise the Rogue class and Ninja job as a selling point? No. It was content they decided to tack on simply to improve the game, and that's commendable, for sure. But if they had advertised it, and it wasn't present at launch, how many people do you know who wouldn't have let out a collective sigh of existential disgust? Just add a "HAH-HAH" sound effect as the content is yoinked out of players' grasps at the last possible second and you're good to go. Don't get me wrong. I'm grateful for getting the stuff I did and did not expect. But I am furious for not getting the stuff that was promised to me when they said it would be. When you advertise one thing, and you fail to deliver on those promises, that is called consumer fraud. And that is serious cause for concern. I don't care if they inevitably do what they promise, but if they say "it's in the game", it better be in the fucking game, or they are lying, plain and simple, black and white, clear as crystal. This is why on-disk DLC is such bullshit. This is just the start of something ugly, you realize this? In fact, now that I think about it, false promises have been a thing in the game industry for a while, now, haven't they? Want an example? Peter fucking Molyneux. He's the Fable guy, remember him? The guy who promised to move heaven and earth to make Fable the best player-choice driven game ever? The guy who failed to do any of that and then promised to move heaven and earth to make Fable II the best player-choice driven game ever while calling the previous a load of shit? Then kept this cycle going over and over? And he didn't just do it with Fable. He raised expectations with his project, Godus, as well. And he failed. He has been BSing his consumers with false promises for years, and it is that kind of behavior I just don't fucking tolerate in an industry where we have tragedy all the goddamn time (Just look at Arkham Knight's PC port and tell me that wasn't a train wreck). So imagine my surprise and inevitable disgust when I see the crippling birth pangs of repeat behavior in the development process for an MMO by one of my favorite developers of all time. So far, the only distinction between the practices there and with this game is that promises are actually delivered on, but with technicalities. "Oh, you're going to have to wait a bit, I'm sorry!" Guh. It's not as bad as it could be, yet, but why get their hands dirty to begin with? Just stop it, guys, there's no need. If it has to be added at a later date, surprise us with it after the launch in a later patch, but don't advertise it when the game is going to launch and it's not fucking ready! Then I cannot look forward to it. /soapbox
  2. I paid 50 bucks for this expansion, just for them to tell me Alexander and the new AF gear were not in the expansion, despite being part of the advertisements and even being selling points. This is not a fucking kickstarter, Square. I paid for a finished game. I did not invest in a demo for a future release.
  3. If my post is going to cause further havoc I would like to motion that it be removed? It could have been worded better; looking at it objectively, the decision to speak bluntly was not a good one.
  4. The following is going to be incredibly blunt. My policy with this has always been the same: "Fuck em." People have a problem with your RP? Fuck em. People refuse to RP with you as a result? Fuck em. People harass you over it? Report them, blacklist them, but most importantly, FUCK EM. I have seen other RP plot devices that make White Mages look comparatively sane. Fuck em. They're not important. What is important is that if you're going to use the trope, do it in a way that people are going to remember. Make it good. If your character is enjoyable, I can overlook his/her job description. I'm tired of WHM being the greatest taboo ever and people being so damned scared of just doing their own thing. At this rate, I'm going to have to be the pioneer, aren't I? Fuck em. Do what you want.
  5. Cheese? Cheeeeeeese? Why didn't this happen, before?! It's brilliant!
  6. Koporo would be a hard whiskey with some dirt in it. Okay, a lot of dirt in it.
  7. When I get Aradial into Balmung, the two should get together and just grump.
  8. Balmung and Gilgamesh are the primary roleplaying servers, and Gilgamesh is kind of shrinking... However, you're free to start up and host an Aether RP linkshell here on the forums to attract attention! I'm sure you'll draw a crowd.
  9. Could have been up front about it. This forum has seen its fair share, we don't have little kids playing the game, it's all cool.
  10. I think I might have something to say that none of you have considered. Under normal circumstances, areas in the game such as the Quicksand, should they be crowded with players, would be so for the sake of being crowded. Every single location would just be a Mor Dhona clone; tons of people trading, crafting, or idling. Instead, when I show up to the Quicksand, my chat log fills up with conversation. Storytelling. People getting drunk, hanging out with each other, having a good time. The guards talk about how the place has gone to hell, the people talk about how the guards are too bossy, the roleplaying community breathes life into areas that would otherwise be totally desolate because no MMO developer could possibly program in that much randomly generated dialogue to keep things as fresh as they do. The roleplaying community keeps this game from being boring for me. And I appreciate that.
  11. At this point, I just stop RPing with them, and have my character be conveniently absent from their storyline until they change back. If they don't, well...

    I Return

So, it's been a while, and I know a lot of you have been wondering what's up. My attempts at getting employment have hit a snag, and it's really frustrating. I'm drowning in a sea of applications, I really don't have a source of income...Ugh... Good news is, I've worked out a deal with my folks, and I'll be able to play again. I'm installing Heavensward as I type; it's almost done. I look forward to seeing you all, again.
  13. What are the maidservants smoking hot, or some- Oh...Right.
  14. "I'm fairly sure I can still deflect bullets with my pecs despite the sea of other people classified as super..."
  15. Derpkitty confesses, he did nothing when he should have.
  16. I'll be getting back into the game, soon enough. You know you can give me a poke, anytime, Mommy-ko.
  17. I beg your forgiveness for what I must do. Ahem. LOOK AT MY HORSE, MY HORSE IS AMAZING
  18. Say hello to the new, 99% finalized Aradial. Aradial is a member of the Krueler, a Tribe known for speaking laconically, often summarizing her feelings in one or two words. The full story behind how she got to Eorzea is unknown, mostly due to her brief speech. It is thought she may arrived on the same boats that followed Yugiri, but the only thing anyone knows is that once she arrived in Vesper Bay, she bothered a merchant until he let her carry crates from one place to another, and has been doing so for a full day, now.
