At the moment, I'm bouncing between this and Wildstar. FFXIV is an amazing MMO! I haven't had my attention captured so thoroughly since WoW, or EQ before that. It's also the only 2nd MMO I've stuck around long enough to hit the level cap...before it got boosted to 60 that is >.> I'm one of the few people, it seems, that was charmed by Wildstar and am actually happy it's going F2P. Considering I have a bunch of friends really thinking about starting WS this fall, I may just move over there for a while. Though I don't think I'll ever leave FFXIV for too long.

I'll pipe in next I'm a process controls engineer that works for Fisher Controls International. I engineer control valves and regulators that keep power plants and the like from going boom. If there's a fluid flow that needs to be controlled in the southwest United States, I've probably engineered a valve for it!

Lalafell, strength and you! Light up the Sounsyy Signal.
Stormsrage00 replied to Warren Castille's topic in RP Discussion
The natural world is certainly full of examples where seemingly smaller creatures are filled with power. It may be possible, and certainly not outside the realm of physics, that the Lalafel have denser muscle-fibers in proportion to their bodies than those of the larger races. Take a look at an orangutan for example. An average female weighs in at about 100 lbs yet is still phenomenally much stronger than the average human being. Should this make Lalafel equal or greater in strength than the larger races is purely an academic debate, in my opinion. What I'm saying is that it is not physically impossible for a smaller being to show strength rivaling or surpassing that of an average human or hyur as the case may be. -
Waching the spectrum of how powerful people make their PC's have always been interesting to me! I tend to make my characters hover around 4. It gives my characters just enough power for me to weave a fantastical story while keeping their abilities within a realm where life can still give them plenty of challenges.

I'm also incredibly interested. I've never put in the time to run with the hardcore raiders but with a more casual group I'd still like the opportunity to hit endgame content! If I'm on I'll usually be around evenings PST. Who can I contact in game for an invite?!

balmung Foxglove Kyo: Tortured Antiheroine
Stormsrage00 replied to Gone.'s topic in Chronicled Connections
Hah, are you sure about that? Foxglove's gloominess might even be enough to bring Koragos down of all people! Definitely need to add you on Foxglove at the very least. Try and poke me if you can? Never underestimate the power of Koragos's smile! It's over 9000! -
balmung Foxglove Kyo: Tortured Antiheroine
Stormsrage00 replied to Gone.'s topic in Chronicled Connections
I'm always more than happy to RP with you Miss Chastain! If you're still in need of friends for Kyo I volunteer Koragos! I'm sure his bright demeanor will provide an enjoyable contrast to your description of Kyo's personality! Perhaps they're best friends that don't know it yet Let me know what you think. -
J'maaira, my character, Koragos, also left Ala Mhigo around that same age and grew up in Limsa Lominsa after that. It wouldn't be far fetched to have our two characters know each other! Go ahead and PM me if you want to talk about specifics as I'm always looking for new connections While I'm not too active in game at the moment due to RL duties that require my attention, I do check the RPC forums regularly so you can always expect responses. I look forward to hearing from you!

I totally agree with you in that sometimes a class can be very limited in scope. Soldiers (Warriors/fighters) throughout history often had to gain proficiency in a number of different weapons and, in many cases, some form of unarmed combat style. It has always bothered me a bit when a class has been shoved into a tiny little box a-la "Oh you're a Warrior? Then you only know how to use an axe." And I completely relate to your last point. I always had difficulty RP'ing advancement with any degree of consistency. Usually because no one else is there to partake in my advancement ._.

Glamours and additional dungeon rp! That's basically it. Hit 50 so you can gain access to the biggest wardrobe possible for mixing and matching! Especially since there's quite the spread of interesting choices that are only accessible at 50 (relic gear, Trial weapons, stuff from CT/ST/WoD). Makes me kinda sad that I have to grind Judge up to decent levels just so I can make him the tin can I want him to be. This is basically my problem in every MMO I've played >.< I always have the idea of "I want my character to look like this...Oh dang have to be max level for that *sighs and starts grinding.*" That usually puts me on a one track mind to complete the progression process and I forget to connect with people and RP in the mean time... FFXIV is the first time I took it relatively slowly, though my erratic schedule up until now didn't really help me maintain any connections ;n;

Oh I hear you Sounsyy! You'll get no downward looks from me! when it comes to straight up RP I try to be flexible and always try to keep in mind that everyone has different styles/preferences. I'm just the type that works better creatively if I create a structure/outline before I write the story. Using the level up mechanic really helps me in pacing out my RP progression. Otherwise I tend to RP one thing, then forget what had happened and RP something contradictory...and then everyone gets all confused! :dazed: Also, I'd like to apologize if my original post was taken in a negative way. I don't look down on anyone's style of RP! I have a strict live and let live policy. I don't want people telling me to how to tell my stories, so why would I want to go out and tell others how to tell their own?! I find I have more fun if I only concern myself with my own decisions. It lets me more easily ride the waves on the oceans of your adventures

I'm in the midst of rewriting my character's back-story before formally introducing him to all you wonderful people of the RPC community. While I was doing so I got a little curious about something. I've seen various ideas on the skill a level 1 character has in their respective class and I'd like to see what you guys have to say on the topic! I'll start by explaining my viewpoint using my favorite class of all time: The Martial Artist/Monk. Basing my opinions on my D&D days, I usually assume that at level 1, my character is already at the level of a black belt. They've completed their initial training and while they are not by any means a "master" of their respective class, they have the proficiency that elevates them above the standard individual. Essentially, at level 1, if my character was in a fight his trained attacks and defenses would all be muscle memory with little to no hesitation. Naturally that doesn't make him an automatic winner of every single fight. It only means that his movements show the signs of years of dedicated practice. This gives, what I feel, a more natural feel to the skill progression as my character levels up. It also lends plausibility, in my mind, to why my character can take on career soldiers/brigands or wild animals while still being able to walk away without being mortally wounded or maimed. I believe this also gives my character room to grow as he journeys his way to mastery and perfection of his art. Well that's about it for me, I'd love to hear how you all handle this. There is no wrong answer and no incorrect opinion! The point is to better understand, out of pure curiosity, how we all enjoy weaving our own stories

Y'know I don't mind my process controls engineering position. Much of my time is spent with the following interaction: Client: "Well what if I make the valve do this?" Me: "Sir, if you do that, your plant will explode." Client: "... Let me call you back." Explosions are fun right?

Oh, he's definitely going to have a gamer childhood. I mean his initials are NES for one thing You sir are my hero!

And so the subscribers to FFXIV will grow by 1 more at the end of February. Teach him about all the games! Have fun PL'ing your little nooblet in the wonderful game of life

And so Jarlaxle and Bregan D'aerth saw its beginnings in FFXIV Joking aside, great idea. I may use this in the future so it's nice to know this character exists!

I've been looking for a small group with which to adventure! Let's see if our characters hit it off and strike up a legendary friendship, eh?

The way I usually handle wipes/in-game defeats is by RP'ing the team being overwhelmed and falling back, as opposed to actually dying and being revived. It's a slight twisting of the mechanic but it flows better in my eyes.

I'm going to try for a test run in the next week or so. I'll sure to post my notes here as well as how it turned out!

If you mean the 90 minute count down, that's just how long you have till the bonus rewards are revoked. It doesn't kick you from the instance when the timer runs out. Are you sure it? It used to (I know from personal experience) Huh, maybe someone else can verify this? No time limit on the RP experience would be great!

Here are my GM notes (written for me and I tend to like minimal and pics ) GM Notes Sastasha is detailed in the second half as the Ghost Whales insides. And here is the Picture Story Ilwe did Picture Story ♥ Amazingly done Nebbs! I looked through your GM notes and it looks like it would be a blast At least now I have something to reference when I build my own adventure.

Wow you guys are creative! You're all giving me ideas of which I hadn't even thought
-
Thanks guys! I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a strange taboo within the community.

Here's a little something on which I'd like to get the community's opinion! I had an idea to use the settings of the dungeons in FFXIV as RP scenarios outside of their roles in the MSQ. For example, if I wanted to RP invading a generic pirate band's lair I would use Sastasha. Or if I wanted to build a scenario where my character was in search of a "special ore" I could take a party through Copperbell Mine and say it's "Random Mine X." Has anyone done this successfully in the past? Would anyone be open to the idea? Just gauging reactions because I'm finally looking to kick start something with Theodorik. He's been laying dormant for far too long in the RP community. Thanks everyone!

Shoshopu, if the RP is going to remain mostly within your FC and the members are all ok with it then have fun! But I do foresee some problems if you end up taking it to public RP as it's generally not well received to RP as having . But there could be a workaround. With your FC the armor may be a green light. But when you go public, the effects of the armor and the struggle with the inner beast can still be RP'ed just find a different mechanic so you don't come off as a special snowflake trying to break lore. But, as always, your RP is your own. You do whatever the heck you dang well please. As long as you're having fun and not hurting anyone else or infringing on their RP, everything's fair as far as I'm concerned.
