So, in summary: Weird.. no. Teasable... yes! But we all get teased, so who cares ^^

Does it have to be a date or can I call for a girls' night out with Yda? :-D
-
Well, canonically they are rare among the general population. We can make up whatever headcanon we like for understanding why they are so common in the circles our RP characters tend to associate with, most predominately: adventurers. I always look at it as the result of their rarity creating strictures and expectations that lead most of the more independent male Miqo'te to abandon their old like and seek a new one among a group of people where they can be more free. That's us!
-
Everyone is a little weird! Miqo'te are (probably) the most popular race for RP characters, so I don't think you can go wrong with it

I'd be happy to send you an invitation to Friends of Ours! It is just a collection of RPers being Friends!

As much, or as little as desired or needed... I think that's really the best answer here, and I am not saying that to be cute or anything! The timeline once ARR begins seems intentionally nebulous, and even if they try to nail it down it wouldn't necessarily pay to cleave loyally to it. Just do the best you can, and enjoy the details while not sweating them too much. That's my advice anyway!

This is one very strange promotion...

Unfortunately I doubt you'll find any RP FCs on Ultros, you MAY find RPers, I really don't know. I did a quick forum search here and I didn't see any threads specifically about Ultros, but that's not tos ay it may not be out there anywhere :-D
-
Hiii! Welcome to the RPC! Are you looking for RP on Ultros? There may be some resources here for that, there are some small communities on a few servers. But, the most active server by far for RP is Balmung, though it is a nuisance to get onto

discussion When to SPEAK, when to THINK, and when to DESCRIBE
Aya replied to Kallera's topic in RP Discussion
I won't disagree with the "do what feels right" suggestions, because really this is a hobby activity that we all do for fun, and you should not feel compelled to follow a specific set of rules or to even "do it right". But I do think there are differences between that and discussing what is most expected, and what is most effective. I think the suggestion that expressing thoughts is something that should really be left to prose posts on forums, or stories. I say this for a number of reasons, but most especially because RP emotes are largely meant to be taken in the context of "this is what your character is experiencing", and they cannot read thoughts. That said there are exceptions, and there are times that I do express thoughts in emote form, but they're rare and often intended humorously. In terms of expressing emotions: I would suggest not straightforwardly expressing emotions, but instead utilize the wealth of communication potential in body language. We often share our emotional state indirectly through our expressions, posture, pose, voice, and movement. That is, probably, the greatest gap between real communication, and text communication, but we can draw upon it to voicelessly communicate to other characters in players in our interactions. -
Compliments Galore! Compliment The Poster Above You!
Aya replied to Y'lani's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Dis not only has a really amazing avatar image (the cropping, the angle, that chain! Ah! It hints, but keeps everything a mystery!) And an absolutely crazy wiki, wow! I love how she appears to, basically, be an Eleven's Eleven in every way, including the rather modest role as a tea shop proprietor and medic. "Yeah... I may eat demon salads and be ready to deal with the monsters of the deep and anything you throw my way, but here, have a chamomile with a touch of Shroud honey, and your problems will just melt away..." That touches a particular chord with me! :-D (And we should meet sometime given that Aya frequents tea houses wherever she can find them!) (And people other people should join this game, its a really fun one!) -
Aya will attend if W'chaza well have her!

Oooooh, yeeesss! :-D

I can't imagine it really matters too much... just enjoy yourself! :-D

Trishelle's restarted one of my favorite threads.. and so is completely amazing! And has an adorable avatar! :-D -
Gems of the community. I cannot offer enough kudos to these two, truly!

Simple Plotting Aya stood on the balcony overlooking the lantern-lit quay below. The longshoremen went about their business around the clock. If a ship needed loading, or unloading, it wouldn't wait for a better time. This was C'kayah's apartment. Standing empty and idle, it served as an easy and comfortable perch for her forays into the life of Limsa Lominsa: the city of white stone. There was an irony in this that only C'kayah and Osric would fully appreciate. Between her teeth she clenched a long, slender pipe stem, stained with lipstick marks. Feminine fingers grasped the bowl, smoldering and fragrant, well away from her face. She hadn't slept. The bag of finest pipe tobacco had been nearly emptied by the night of contemplation. A wispy string of gray-smoke rose lazily toward the heavens in the calm morning air, catching the first ray of rising sun. It was only the most strenuous moments that brought forth the vice, but none could deny that this evening had struck just such a desperate chord. "Where is a Dirk Problemsolver when you really need one...?" Osric was in jail. Brash. Foolish. What had he been thinking? She turned the basics over in her mind once more: Morris, accused mutineer. Had acted to resist the Garlean threat. Osric Melkire, a.k.a. Dirk Problemsolver, publicly defended him and is now paying the price. Both, arrested, standing trial: punishment to be hanged until dead. The city quaked, divided on the matter of Morris. Half wished him dead, the other were not so sure. Elements of the 8th and 9th Squadrons were already preparing for a joint strike against the island, center of the Garlean foray and its pirate allies. The politics: The Admiralty was unconcerned with justice, or innocence. Only the well-being of the Maelstrom, and Limsa Lominsa would weigh upon their hearts. The members would act in accordance with their duty toward their charge: no different than if it were a ship, or a fleet. But the Captains are prideful men and women. Nothing could sting them more than the threat of humiliation. One weakness. One crack into which a lever-arm could be thrust with enough precision. "Where is a Dirk Problemsolver when you really need one..." she wondered aloud in her light voice, the tone of rich Ishgardian accent playing upon every soft, sighing note. If such a man were to make a grandiose appearance, it could complicate matters for the Admiralty who thought they had the elusive fellow in their cells... But what of Morris. She sighed. The fate of Morris had not meant much to her - but it clearly meant something more to Osric and their collective friends. Perhaps, she wondered, Limsa Lominsa could not withstand the Garlean incursion if it began by extinguishing those who took first blood on their behalf. But that was all too romantic a notion - still, when they cared, she could not help but care as well. The mob was angry--furious. She knew such energy was not, quite, directionless, but that it could be channeled more easily than it could be diffused. It was not inconceivable that anger toward the mutineer could be redirected into anger at the Admiralty. An Admiralty that pulled the wool over the eyes of the people of Limsa Lominsa. That obscured the Garlean threat, in a poorly-conceived bid to maintain order in the city. An admiralty that played loyal Officers as pawns, and loyal citizens as dupes to be fooled. It had the added benefit of being true - Haelstyrmm having readily confirmed it during the proceedings. She shifted the pipe, nearly chewing on the mouthpiece as the familiar taste hung upon her lips. What Morris could use--what this city could use, is a demagogue. "Where is a Dirk Problemsolver when you really need one...?"

The first thing I'd say to anyone out there who would feel either upset or hurt about mis-identification is that you should make your character as easily identifiable as possible. But I don't think that is the case, it certainly isn't with me, and that isn't at all a tone I see in the OP. So yes, if getting upset is an issue, you should be using the most obvious model possible. From my own perspective its absolutely not a matter of "getting upset". I might be disappointed but not upset if someone insisted upon treating Aya as a Midlander in every way, that's the situation that I have created! But, I think that it would make no material difference whatsoever. Which brings me to my second point, that I simply have to offer disagreement on the merits. A Midlander and a Highlander are not at all like a dog and a cat. They share exactly the same skeletal structure and anatomy. They share the same biology, and physiology. Given that their pigmentation variation is also identical, they are not even as dissimilar as two different breeds of cat or dog. What most sets Highlanders and Midlanders apart are matters of stature and physique. Highlanders tend to be taller and more muscular than Midlanders, but the musculature is not even an entirely primary characteristic. A sedentary Highlander is going to be fat. And some Midlander men are going to be broad-chested and cut. This brings to my most important contention: the apparent differences between the two clans are largely the result of limitations in the game engine, rather than actualities within the game world. We see every Highlander literally having the same body, and the same for every Midlander. This is not representative of what our characters experience and observe. Within the IC world the variation will be more similar to our own, and these supposed distinctions would very quickly blur. Some Highlanders due to a combination of facial features, build, accent, and so on, will be obviously Highlanders. The same will be true for some Midlanders. But, for those in-between the distinction will be blurred. They may appear more-or-less similar to one "ideal" form or the other, but it will not be entirely clear what their ancestry is (any more than ethnic descent can always be clearly observed in reality). I do not feel that playing a Highlander with a Midlander model is anything at all like placing a "dog" label on a cat. The model's themselves are suggestive at best, and if anything I suspect this arrangement provides a better idea of Aya's form than if I had simply stuck with the Highlander model (though I am definitely open to disagreement on that!) In my mind Aya's appearance did not change with the model switch. Was the Midlander look closer to that vision? That's questionable. Was the aesthetic closer (due largely to the ever-preset clenched fists of the pre-c-pose Highlander female), definitely. I still feel there is some value in that. There is also evidence that this is the way it is intended to be: just to mention a couple of well-known female Highlander characters (if the Lorebook is to be trusted): Yda and Minfilia. I would say that both appear more similar to Aya's Midlander model, than to her old Highlander one. In the end though: Will everyone be accepting of the discrepancy, maybe not... but I don't think the ramifications, even on IC interactions with such recalcitrant individuals, would be invalidated or slighted [You just play along as best you can!]. If the OP feels that his Duskwight is better represented by a Wildwood model, I'd still encourage him to go for it
-
Haha! Maybe it doesn't work in the sense that "not everyone will know about it" but it does work in the sense that you do not mind that interpretation, (I presume!) and should it come up importantly I could easily correct it, and should it come up in conversation Aya would just presume it was an unimportant mistake I suspect it would be much the same for Wildwood and Duskwight, except that someone -might- be less rascist for having confused the Duskie for a Wildwood, since Duskie-cism is about the only sort of IC-racism (other than all-Lala-are-cute) that you really see much of in RP.

I don't believe in dubious plot twists! :-D

Aya will just observe from the distance... what is wrong with all of these Lominsans?

balmung Mafia Guild looking for connections.
Aya replied to Lilira Lira's topic in Chronicled Connections
Hi! A Shroud-centric Organized Crime gang? Sounds intriguing! You should try to get in touch with the Black Coeurl! Aya's not a criminal, as such, but has more ties to the underworld than generally known. I'd be happy to try to make some sort of a connection. -
Similarly, Aya is a Highlander, 5' 10", who usually is wearing 2-4" heels and so standing over 6' tall [which is noted in her search info as suggested above!]. Her model is only 5' 8", I think it is, the max height for a midlander.. it might be 5' 6". I moved her over to this model ages ago due to the Highlander perma-clenched fists (aah before /cpose! :-D ) Now its just Aya.. and I don't really want to change back. So I understand entirely! So far no one has ever objected, though sometimes they do assume she's a Midlander, and given how similar Hyur are to one-another I just assume, ICly, that they're mistaken.

Sometimes you wanna go, Where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came. An OOC LS for friendly chatting among RPers. Its always nice to have a place where you can find Friends. That's no less true for RPers than anyone else! For years the linkshell Friends of Momodi provided just such a place for many of us. Although it had begun as a wide-open space for RPers centered in Ul'dah, it became a wonderfully welcoming and friendly space for those of us who remained. It is this Best of Times sentiment that we wish to carry forward with us into a new Linkshell: a place for friends, old and new alike! A place for all these Friends of Ours. So if you're looking to make some friends, or just for a place to hang out, this might be the place for you! The Only Rule: Be Excellent to Each Other Contact for Invitation: Aya Foxheart, Alexaria Whiteraven, Leggerless Hanzou
