  1. I love that WAR is getting more to it. Stance dance classes/characters are almost always my favorites. Can someone please sum up MNK changes for me? I'm at work and have no sound. ; ;
  2. I'm spoiled after being able to play a character in TOR that could tell NPCs what they could go do to themselves... and then coming here and putting up with Minfilia. BUT! Seeing Black Mages with new killy stuff right now is good for the soul. Cook 'em! Fellow TOR player of days past, here. I know that feel. Daily reminder that Black Mages are a daily reminder that EVERYTHING BURNS.
  3. That's been more of an issue recently because the Eternal Bond purple text is now a permanent fixture for some reason. Before, it used to be that if you saw purple text, you were instantly alerted to maintenance times. Now it's all "ugh EB info not even gonna look".
  4. Sorry to hear that, Quki. Hoping things get better for you and yours, and thanks for the heads-up. As requested, I've locked this thread.
  5. I make a point of roleplaying where roleplay makes sense for the given characters at any given point in their arcs. If that means RPing in Ul'dah, or at Final Prayer in Eastern Thanalan, or traveling to the Shroud, or swinging by Lavender Beds while I'm there, or hopping on a ferry to Limsa Lominsa, I do it. When a scene isn't necessarily best had in a given location (i.e. I can justify why character X can be in location Y at time Z), I try to push for locales that aren't often used. Spent some time in the Carline Canopy a couple months back (I need to reignite that plotline, it got dropped when my laptop died), and while that was a nice change of scenery, I could do far more and I'm planning to. Wolves' Den. God damn it, I love that place. Hell, if I'm out of the housing wards, I usually end up spending more one-on-one RP time outside of Thanalan than in. Vylbrand / La Noscea is my favorite (soooo many underused places, like Skylift) but I'll go for just about anything, really. Slight disclaimer for those who go "wait what?" Osric is not my only character.
  6. Immortal Flame roleplayer, here. Leaves of absence. Military operations, exercises, and/or business. That's it, really.
  7. The judgment was consistent with the letter of the law. The judgment was inconsistent with the spirit of the law. I'll own up to that. Still gonna push for better language for the rules.
  8. Wasn't Chiyo present when Berrod had his spar with Osric? I'm sure she'd be able to find Armstrong again. coughheoccasionallyhauntstheGrindstonecough
  9. Tone in text. Always difficult. I'm calm, but I'll step away.
  10. Some transparency is in order, then. Please tell me where in this PM I disrupted the thread.
  11. This is not the case. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=11586&pid=182218#pid182218 http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=11670&pid=183814#pid183814 Two recent examples. Both of those cases had text to go with them. So what you're saying is, you can not just post a macro. It must have text? What if there's simply nothing else to say? Who are you to determine the depths to what our posts must contain? Each post must contain x amount of discussion or be off topic? Sometimes a well placed macro just sums up all you have to say. It clearly shouldn't be, so we'll rewrite the rule(s) in question. I didn't issue a warning. I made that judgment call. Am I being taken to task for being lenient and not issuing a warning for a post that clearly didn't deserve one? Or is the issue in the language I employed in my PM title / PM content? I'd like to know. I'm still leaning towards "overreaction" if it's the former.
  12. Supposed "double standards," mostly. We'll revise the rule. Staff are already suggesting and discussing edits anyway, as mentioned earlier in this thread.
  13. This is not the case. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=11586&pid=182218#pid182218 http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=11670&pid=183814#pid183814 Two recent examples. Which is why I just suggested (and I think it was missed because people are posting so fast and/or skimming the discussion) that perhaps a thread for "Questions, Clarifications, and Suggestions Re: Rules" is called for. If the rule is poorly warded and action has been taken on account of it, then we'll take feedback, adjust, and keep moving forward. Apologies if the case that seems to be bothering you went down a road I never intended (which is precisely WHY I PM'd Bryn as I did, didn't make a mod note, didn't edit, didn't issue a warning... just opened a dialogue).
  14. I hope you're not referring to our conversation there, Osric. I'll admit that I was upset by the 'Pre-warning Notice' I was given after posting the .gif in the thread I made earlier, but I made sure to put my points across in a reasonable manner. You did, and I was thankful for that. It was a dialogue, and that dialogue was important enough that I shrugged off that initial feeling, forwarded your response as requested, and came back to ask what I felt was an important question. Your edit made me a little, though, since there was no need to remove the GIF. Apologies if I offended in any way. To this I would say; who is the website being run for? On a theoretical level, if everyone decided to up and leave right now, what would be the point of it? The RPC isn't a personal project, it's a community. I was calling attention to the fact that comparisons to real world politics are inherently flawed. Dogberry beat me to that point since I was taking so long to post (posting from the work place can be so slow at times; writing in bursts, blargh).
  15. I think what people are experiencing here is a gap between the rules and the enforcement of the rules. While I don't agree with how this thread was started, and feel the title is prone to baiting, I have to say that the impression I've gotten is that they're absolutely banned. When images appear (to me) to be "on-topic," they still get warnings. So the impression I've gotten is no images, because you never know if you're going to get warned or not. I'll provide an example with this post, then. ^^^ This is not okay. ^^^ ^^^ This is okay. ^^^
  16. There's no ban on them. Also this, which we'll be amending soon since recent edge cases brought it to our attention (pending change in bold): What that translates as is essentially "don't post image macros or 'memes' if your post is going to be off-topic, or dismissive, or might derail the thread." That doesn't say "don't post memes" or "don't be funny". That's simple enough to avoid anyway if your post contains more than just the meme in question. If there's an issue in the language, I invite folks to work with us to fix said language. PMs. Multi-PM a la conference. Start a thread. Something. In the meantime, I'm going to take your suggestion, Dogberry, right now to the admin boards and see if that wording is something we want to use in an update to avoid confusion through clarity. I sent someone a PM earlier today asking them to maybe just add a sentence or two to their post so it was more than just a GIF. I got a response that made me feel like I was being accused of stealing candy from a baby. All of that said, 1. This isn't a democracy. This is a privately-run website that accepts donations as public contributions to otherwise private funding. If FreelanceWizard decided tomorrow to close this website down, it'd be gone. No, that's not happening (it's sad that I have to clarify this, otherwise some folks would jump to erroneous conclusions, but there you go). 2. We're being more than fair (and we're being transparent!) Which is ironic given that responses such as the OP effectively break THIS rule: EDIT: [takes Moderator Hardhat off] As a libertarian myself, I find this thread in poor taste. It comes off immediately as negative instead of addressing the issue in a positive constructive manner. For example, thread title "Can We Please Clarify This Rule?" followed by questions and suggestions would have been much, much better. [puts Moderator Hardhat back on]
  17. If I were to lock this thread for hyperbole and dramatization, would you start lobbying for free speech? Or would you accept that this thread is entirely meant to stir up drama that we the staff have been trying to keep to a minimum recently? We clarified on the rules. The rules are there to keep discussions constructive, to prevent folks from derailing discussions, to amplify signal and filter out noise. We're not against the posting of images, videos, GIFs, or the like. We're against their use as stand-alone commentary, since most such cases aren't constructive or thought-out and most such cases are trolling/baiting/derailing attempts anyway. We're not against humor either. But we're supposedly roleplayers, and if roleplayers - people who write as a hobby - can't take two minutes out of their time to write up a few sentences of substance in addition to their chosen image/gif/video, then I suppose we should start expecting to see the Feels Bad Man sadfrog and the like to crop up a lot in the coming days, weeks, months, etc. Post what you want, but post constructively if the aim of the thread is to have actual discussion. If you're issued a warning, then that warning was issued after careful consideration by the moderator in question and was NOT issued lightly. And if you received a PM instead of a warning alerting the user to how they had toed the line and could they please avoid such in the future... what? Is that grounds for complaint? tl;dr: a post in "Describe your relationships with a GIF" is going to fundamentally differ from a post in "Examples of Keeper Lore", and the distinction between the two should be understood and respected. EDIT: In the time it took me to write this up, people had responded to the OP.
  18. This...is not hurting anybody. Sure, it's nonsense, but it's funny for that reason? It's just a piece of banter. [Moderator Hardhat] It's non-constructive and potentially derailing. Re-rail, please and thank you. [/Moderator Hardhat]
  19. Oh. Is this what that was? Heard Dogberry's birthday party was happening, hopped to a Lalafell alt to go level, and coincidentally passed on by. Thought it was a strip party. ...I suppose with Dagh, that amounts to the same. HAPPY NAMEDAY!
  20. Disclaimer, I've yet to do Rot with anyone, but I imagine telling new people to "play hot potato with the debuff! always pass it to the same person!" would work well.... no?
  21. I'm curious as to why the topic has swung towards healers... the issue as put forth by the original post was very much a matter of the tank taking unusually hard hits from trash mobs. I ran a Low Level Roulette today as a 28 CNJ and got sorted into a Sastasha. Mind you, I know how and when to stance dance properly. The tank got on my case for using Fluid Aura (bitch, I forgot that the Coeurl isnt immune to it, and pushing Madison closer to the dog cage is next level shit), so I decided to keep an eye on him to see what HE was doing wrong. Not one cooldown used. Ever. When questioned, his response was "I dont see a point to using CDs on trash." ... ... I kindly informed him that using his offensive and defensive cooldowns on trash would speed up the run by allowing him and I to contribute to DPS more, and that they'd be back up long before we reached a boss anyway. Those words fell on deaf ears. He didnt use a single CD until we reached Orca or w/e the final boss' name is. tl;dr: I find that new tanks are more often the problem than healers who want to DPS.
