Oh my!!!! I miss all the shenanigans when I go to bed. And Guen and you.....if you look alike, I'll take it. Also: Apparently the qualifications for Guin and I being twins is that we both have red hair, are female Midlanders, and have boobs. Men, I swear to god... See......confirmed twins because of science!! And I wish I could but I gotta make those greenbacks at work and I need to get up so early. Damn time zone preventing Ruru from dancing in his underwear.

City-wide RP plots (split from Limsa Lominsa RP Connections)
Melodia replied to FreelanceWizard's topic in RP Discussion
Before this gets into personal territory I hope everyone can relax a bit. No one should be bashing anyone for their rp. And I don't think anyone has per se. I think the issue at discussion is the viability and potential issues with grand scale city rp and it's effects or not on the city itself post-rp. I mean, come on...we are all friends here so we should be able to debate this without getting angry or pitting one city's rp group versus another. It's supposed to be for fun. And even if one disagrees with the city rp doesnt mean they hate the rp people or the story. Just means they disagree with elements of it. And that's okay. as a community we should be able to disagree politely and discuss the issue fully. I would hope we can continue this interesting topic withoutit getting ugly. *sits back down* -
Shooooot. *Ruru breaks out his own stash.* Look who you're talking to.

City-wide RP plots (split from Limsa Lominsa RP Connections)

I just find the discussion interesting. I have no horse in the game really. Just asking hypotheticals and listening to opinions. Like I said, I feel like I am in ehthics class. -
City-wide RP plots (split from Limsa Lominsa RP Connections)
Melodia replied to FreelanceWizard's topic in RP Discussion
This is a good sentiment. I wish everyone felt the same, but that's a whole other issue. I think that the trouble comes in when there are big effects. Say for example, the rp event cost the lives of two people, PC folks who had interactions with Joe Roegadyn. And Joe Roe decided he didn't want to participate in the rp...refused to even acknolwedge it. Hell, he even walked right through it without a care so he could go fish. What happens to Joe Roe when that PC is dead? If he doesn't recognize the city wide rp, then isn't the PC still alive to Joe Roe? LOL! It's just a thought and I feel like I am in my ethics class all over again asking it, but it's worth pondering. I mean if Joe Roe sees the PC as alive and didn't acknowldge it as a canon event, then how can he recognize the PC as dead? *Brain falls out thinking about it* -
I had wanted Ruru to set something like this up, like a back room casino type thing for rp and such, but I struggle with the logistics (ie how to rp a card game, or a dice game). And being on a console makes it harder to sort of have access to the web like that even though I still think it's an awesome idea. I even thought it would be cool when personal housing comes to have the house be the casino. But again, it's tricky. You would need help from others to "run" the games.

Calling all Yellowjackets (Brainstorming and Discussion)
Melodia replied to Melodia's topic in RP Discussion
This I wouldn't mind. Melodia was initially supposed to be a villain so playing a less than scrupulous city guard might be a good way to play her and make her playable in general. Plus would keep it fun. I know when I see them in the game I do not hold the image of super formality in my mind with them that I do the Sultansworn. So I think a rough-and-tumble type group would fit the character of the city. Hell even the Admiral herself is pretty damn tough so yeah, I agree. -
Okay, so in the Limsa Lominsa Contacts thread, the subject came up about establishing a group of folks who play as Yellowjackets inside the city, to serve as antagonists to the more shady, underworld types. I have an alt, Melodia D'janz, who has been literally unused and is almost an impossible character to use as I had initially developed. So I am revamping her and want to work her as a Yellowjacket. What I am looking for are others who might be interested in this. I am thinking this would be a good place to brainstorm ideas and get maybe some input from those that play in the Sultansworn or Brass Blades and get any advice on how to effectively run this type of thing so that it works. So please, let me know if you are interested and please leave any thoughts that might help. We have a real opportunity to expand the rp scene in the server and I am excited to help make that happen.

Blood on the Sands Episodic rp event (Rules for Event 2 in first post)
Melodia replied to Askier's topic in Chronicled Events
...for he is kind? Those poor puppies :< He is ever so kind. And polite... And crazy... And a hater of puppies.... But he let Crofte save Ruru. *Ruru puts on foam finger with "Jin'li #1"* -
Now no no no no.....she's supposed to bring the companions, silly! Haha! I'd be down for it though it gets hard not being on a PC. I always have a tough time with roll business. But this would be fun. Hey if people can rp their people "rp'ing" in the game then why not cards?
-
I agree. I would split the discussion about city-wide rp away from this thread as this really is supposed to be a Limsa resource and brainstorming thread.
-
I would love to have folks talk to me and we can kind of figure out what we want to do. I will need to kind of work on my character for it, as she's only level 15. But, I do think that if a couple folks joined me, we could set up a pretty solid law enforcement arm in the city. And with that in place we can start having some bigger scale rp with the criminal folks in the city. Plus, that actually gives an excuse for folks like the Sultansworn to come and engage with the law folks in Limsa when necessary. If anyone wants to kind of brainstorm on the Yellowjacket side, please pm me and we can discuss here or in game.

Blood on the Sands Episodic rp event (Rules for Event 2 in first post)
Melodia replied to Askier's topic in Chronicled Events
As an outsider to this, and not involved in this rp, and a relatively new rp'er I have to say I am disheartened by this....this whole thread, really. Askier has tried to do something fun and people get so....damn....nitpicky and it just rips the fun out of it. Why would anyone new want to join in when the people involved can't seem to do anything but fight and bicker. Askier tried hard yesterday to just calm everyone down with a thoughtful reply and without fail, everyone continued to argue. With these kinds of events people need to be a little more flexible and try be creative rather than so set in this-one-and-only answer, because setting onself in stone with no wiggle room, only creates the "fun" thread here. And I feel bad for new folks who see this as the hottest thread and those shy folks or new rp'ers who may be turned away by this. I think Askier did good here, but the blowback from everyone makes me hesistant to ever join in a big rp event. -
The letter was written with such a fine penmanship, care taken to make sure it was legible, to make sure that she savored every word when she read it. He almost wanted to head back to Ul'dah and say it in person, just to see the look of utter failure cross her face. But he didn't want to lose track of his brother, nor his...lover? The idea seemed ridiculous. Nevertheless he just wanted to make sure she knew. Nonotano sealed the envelope and smiled at it as he sent it. With that he walked back to the Drowning Wench for another drink, the grin still plastered upon his face. The letter read: To the Lovely Sergeant Crofte, I found him. And the Limsa air has done me well, Sergeant. Your ever adoring fan, Krell
-
The humid air was hell on his skin, and Nonotano was happy to be inside...well, kind of inside. The Drowning Wench was open on both ends and he questioned the foolish designer who thought that was a good idea. The coif around his head masked his red hair and he sat near the far wall, watching the bar across the way.... .....watching his brother work so damned hard at trying to blend in. Oh that dye job is atrocious Ruru. The thought ran through his head as he sipped at his drink, and he smiled. It had taken some doing but he'd finally seen him. The other day in fact, as he'd been perusing the local markets in Hawker's Alley. Nono had inital doubts. Ruru had white hair and had never carried himself in such a confident manner before. But after watching him for some time he knew it was Ruru. And so here he was, watching from afar, waiting to see what little brother was waiting for. After some time, he saw....a woman entered. She, too, was trying so gods damned hard to be inconspicuous and yet she stood out like a sore thumb. The hat alone would be enough to draw attention but her mannerisms gave an extra layer of absurdity to the scene. He took note of her, the green haired Miqo'te woman. Took a sharp image in his mind, so he could remember her. This one was working with Ruru though he didn't know what it was related to. He didn't care. He could have his fun with this one. The brilliant part of finding Ruru was going to be destroying Ruru piece by piece without laying a hand on him. He waited for the conversation to end and watched Ruru get up and leave. Nono waited a few ticks and followed, but not too close. His brother was heading to a slightly run down inn and Nono stopped dead in his tracks with wide eyes and grin taking over his face. Ruru was meeting another Lalafell outside the door. A young woman. And they embraced in a loving manner. It was all Nono could do to stop himself from breaking out in laughter. Things were improving by the moment and as he watched them enter he turned to walk to the moogle delivery box. He had one more task before he began to have his fun.

And I can't forget Fae Redwing did this awesome sketch of Ruru! Thank you Fae, I love it! And anyone who's seen it keeps asking "What's he running from?" And that's why I love it...because it could be anything. His past, his enemies, maybe even his friends. With Ruru it's tough to say. Thank you again Fae!

So, following the fight in the Black and Blue thread, Miza and Ruru shared a drink... ....but Ruru had one too many. This was when he thought he was at Costa Del Sol. Miza kindly played along. Ruru breaks bad news to his significant other Alulu that they may be in danger. Ruru at feels at home staking his claim in La Noscea. "So this stupid Goobbue walks into a bar and.....he's, behind me isn't he?" Last but not least, sometimes the sunrises get to me in this game.

I think for this particular conundrum, you need to decide what you want to be the focus of your rp: are you really in love with the idea of your character drawing from her own aether, or are you more focused on her having issues with the conjuring from the elements, and it doesn't really matter the cause? At the end of the day, you're the one who needs to be most happy with what you're writing. If you really want the drawing from her own aether bit, then maybe try asking, "how can I make this work with the lore?" >> because I've found that sometimes it's easier to ask forgiveness rather than permission. *constantly making up new places to drag people to in Limsa. Constantly.* Yes! This post. And yes, Zhi is good making Limsa big. I remember the other day walking through an area and saying "Is this where Ruru and her walked? Or was that over there? Hmmm...can't find it. Maybe I'm lost..." LOL!

As for the avoiding rp issue, OP, yeah, with the new content, rp will slow so take heart and don't stress. No one is avoiding rp because of a thread. But, like Liadan said, if they are allowing a forum thread deter them, then they shouldn't be on your list of rp hopefuls anyway. Mod note by FreelanceWizard: Edited to remove the quote of a removed post.

I won't disagree with your overall point. My group and I are more than happy to participate/help with whatever it is the people want. Hell, I'm more than happy to just participate in something and have zero responsibility. But I don't agree there is going to be any favoritism. This is a community project. From what I've seen, its about getting more RP going and more connections made. There doesn't have to be one storyline at a time. By that same argument we won't be able to use anyone's FC house because that would be pushing that FC. Let's not throw the baby out with the bath water here. Keeping it vague and open has its definite perks, but whatever happens someone has to be writing the rules. RP doesn't have a natural order like the real world does. Even basic physics has to be agreed on by everyone involved. I don't care who or what it is, but there has to be a body making decisions. Like Rurutani mentioned, it'd make sense to connect FCs ands groups to it alongside individual characters. So let's make peoples' houses RP spots and interconnect plotlines. I'm not going to worry about who's more popular, but what RP we can create for the community. I agree, but I think the point ArmachiA was making was along these lines. Our FC, the Night Blades, runs a big story in Limsa, but it's open and others join in, and we publish it a big open rp (a la the Sands rp in Ul'dah) only it's being pushed by the FC of Night Blades....what she is concerned with (and correct me if I am wrong) is that there would be a perception that our FC was pushing the evnt to have folks join the FC, etc. So I don't think she means disregard the FC element, just not "This RP sponsored by the Mt. Dew FC" aspect. LOL...right? Or am I dead wrong?
-
Everything here= Yes! I think doing something similar story wise to what folks are doing in the Sands episodic thread, would be valuable. we have all the elements in place to make a very solid plotline. I think the key to setting up a good one is to make it general but allows itself to touch all the FCs and groups based in Limsa...that will allow them to feel the ties to the city more and attract folks to come to see what the hullabaloo (damn right I used that word. ) is all about.

Hello! Welcome to the server and the site! Hope to meet you in game sometime.

The Member is good, but yeah, the space is tight. Though the little walkway outside and the balconies offer a bit of an open addition that would allow spillover of folks to chat there. I mean, the Quicksand really doesnt have a ton of space either to be honest, but folks have used the railing as a means to subsidize the seating or lack thereof. , and many just move outside to chat more anyway. The Wench is good for a bar setting. I do like that, and the tables offer good intimate discussion settings, unless you are a Lalafell and then the space between the seats makes you feel like Bruce Wayne and Vicky Vale in the 1989 Batman movie. *waits for someone to know the scene I am referencing....long table? Bueller?* The Bismarck would be better is it wasn't right there with the culinary guild. :frustrated: The docks are good for the shady types and I know we have used it. But not really a hub for folks. That's the trickiest part....so many good places once into the city, but a central spot for new folks and such is needed. Like the Anchor Yard, the Docks, the Aftcastle area, some areas tucked away like the Arcanist Guild lower level, etc. And I agree. The Rum n Rumble may be too out of the way for some folks who want to rp in town. As for ideas? I'm always up for political intrigue and clashing dynamics in town. Criminals, Yellowjackets, the friggin' Maelstrom officers, Pirates and Smugglers? Surely these forces need to clash at some point. I am personally tweaking my alt, Melodia to use as a Yellowjacket within the city, so if anyone else wants to make an alt and join that'd be awesome. I'd love to hear from some of the different FCs and groups that have posted or SHOULD post. LOL! We need to get more input. *Lala puts stepstool soapbox away and waits.*
