These days, even just mostly doing your MSQ will get you outleveling a lot of content 1-60, especially if you're doing any daily roulettes for experience. The biggest hurdle I usually see people have is getting their Grand Company rank up as you will have a much higher level/msq completion rate than expected and you may need to grind some FATEs or do Company Levequests to rank it up to a point that you can do provisioning/turn-ins for ease. If you do all the 2.0/3.0/4.0 side quests, you will definitely outpace things. Not particularly bad if you have later expansion content, but they can also be a nice break from the main story or to give to alt classes/jobs for leveling. The side quests in 5.0 content all level sync, which makes them handy for any use.

[2 August 2019] Regarding the IPS4 Dark theme

Update: A patch for our OAuth-based login system has been applied. After some additional testing, I'll be re-disabling the legacy login method as it has a few glitches. -
[2 August 2019] Regarding the IPS4 Dark theme
Unnamed Mercenary replied to Unnamed Mercenary's topic in Forum Announcements
As an aside, I've confirmed an issue regarding wiki logins. Our regular OAuth-based plugin is currently not working due to a bug in IPS 4.4.5's OAuth server. I've logged a support ticket and they are working on a fix which should be included in the next forum update. (Hopefully soon!) In the meantime, I've enabled our legacy login bridge based on a MediaWiki plugin that can authenticate users with forum credentials. The normal "login" link will load this page. ( https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin ) However, this plugin isn't update for our version of MediaWiki and cannot autocreate a user. If you haven't logged into the wiki previously, or if you've changed your username, I'll need to manually update your wiki user profile or create an account as a stop-gap. If you have any difficulty getting logging in to the wiki, please make a thread over in Requests and Feedback and I can assist! -
Hearers and Conjurers are two separate things. A Conjurer (in the sense of the proper noun) is a person learning the Gridanian style of conjury. It's important to note that there are other varieties and other methods of healing magic that work differently. None of them, however, can raise the dead. A Hearer is, as their title implies, someone capable of hearing the Elementals. How exactly they interpret what a force of nature given form's thoughts and wishes to be is a bit more vague. Often, a Hearer makes a really good Conjurer, but that's more due to their relationship with nature and the Elementals than say innate magic ability. IT's also important to note that Conjury (in either sense) is not strictly healing. The spells we see/have in the game's battle content are only a sliver of OOC decisions. Back in FFXIV 1.0, Conjurers had access to the full elemental wheel. (And might've been better DPS.) For some good overviews of magic (and lots of lore things in general), I recommend Sounsyy's posts. Some may need some updating as newer information from later expansions may have expanded upon them, but they're a great resource. A lot of their armor is enhanced and made differently from more Eorzean designs and styles. As a basically 99% racial trait for not being able to manipulate aether, they use materials that do not/cannot conduct aether, etc. (The first lorebook does state that it's not impossible for a pureblooded Garlean to manipulate aether, but that it is a rarity.) You'll find that a handful of people have done this concept and have had success at various points. Take Nero as an example. Yes, from the Fan Fest lore panels, it was confirmed that the Garlean third eye is really...just another eye. IT allowed them better sight/perception, but it's not magitek, or specially implanted, or any of NPC rumors.

Good morning/day to most! Some recent forum maintenance/updates have finally broken the rigged IPS4 Dark theme on our backend. I'd like to take this time to properly suggest moving over to a newer dark theme that is supported, named Carbon. This theme is quite a bit more stylized than the mostly stock IPS layout, and we will be continuing to support the default light theme, which resembles the older MyBB-based RPC. To change the site theme, scroll to the bottom of the page and select it from the themes selector. Some minor changes to the navigation bar will likely follow as I work to optimize what displays where to make everything easy to access. If you don't see a category, it will be in the "More" block, similar to the main theme.

[Spoiler-ish] Random notes about the First
Unnamed Mercenary replied to Valence's topic in Lore Discussion
Or she's saying they do not have superior hearing at all. That first sentence heavily depends on context preceding it. Possibly the other localizations can help fill in some blanks, as when I was doing those crafter quests, I took it as "Viera/Vis have ordinary hearing" just like a Miqo'te/Mystel does. -
Here's a manually created info table that can be adjusted for colors. It's not quite as robust as the template version as you'll need to make sure your images and categories are set manually, but it should offer you a bit more control! I recommend using the regular infobox first to gather all the generated categories, which you can ten use to flesh out the manual entry. Or you could skip them, but then your character won't show up on those pages if someone's browsing them. For colors, you can reference something like https://htmlcolorcodes.com/ to get the hex code. Everything should be in the format of #RRGGBB to work, with common choices being #FFFFFF for white, #000000 for black, #FF0000 for max red, and so on. To add a section, copy the "optional text" block starting from the |- line above it and then the two lines below that, so you have 3 lines with "|- | left content | right content" to add an entry. Combined with the div tags on top and bottom (or per text block or section), you should be able to make style and color adjustments! Likewise, if there's an entry you don't want/need, you can just remove its lines as well, or reorder them to your liking. (The normal infobox is hardcoded into a particular order). {| class="infobox" style="background-color:#FF0000; color:#00FF00; font-size:89%; width:300px; align:right;" |- | colspan="2" style="font-weight:bold; background-color:#000000; color:#FFFFFF; font-size:150%; padding:3px;" | NAME |- style="text-align:center;" | colspan="2" style="padding:0.5em;" | <br/>caption |- style="background-color:#000000; color:#FFFFFF;" | colspan="2" | <center>Title</center> |- style="background-color:#000000; color:#FFFFFF;" | Gender | Gender |- style="background-color:#000000; color:#FFFFFF;" | Race | Race |- style="background-color:#000000; color:#FFFFFF;" | Clan | Clan |- style="background-color:#000000; color:#FFFFFF;" | Citizenship | City |- style="background-color:#000000; color:#FFFFFF;" | Server | Server |- style="background-color:#000000; color:#FFFFFF;" | Optional Thing | Right side text |}

You'd need to copy the infobox template to a new template page and make changes to it generation code. Unlike character pages, the infoxbox templates make use of some really complicated code and plugins for their templating features. It's rather fickle and complex to edit and I would not advise doing so unless you're well-acquainted with HTML, CSS, wikicode, and MediaWiki parser functions. The infobox-roe template can give you an idea of how to add stylizing to the infoxbox-character template, but it's by no means a casual edit to make, I'm afraid.
-
The code snippet above wasn't correct HTML. (Meant more as an example). For CSS, you'll need to use #000000 to #FFFFFF hex codes for colors. ..and a semicolon to separate them like so. Do note that some elements, like the table of contents or the character infobox won't be affected by these changes because they're generated separately from the actual page. <div style="background-color:#000000; color:#FFFFFF;"> content here use <h2 style="CSS stuff here">Heading2</h2> instead of ==Heading2== to colorize headings </div>

Hello! There's no dark-mode theme or anything of the like. However, you can easily make the changes you want for your own wiki pages with the help of a little HTML/CSS. Our wiki software, Mediawiki, allows for inline CSS in most common HTML tags. You can probably accomplish the changes you want by wrapping most elements in <div> tags, unless the page template you're using is already making use of them. Then you'd need to set it per field. <div style="background-color=000000 color=000000"> your wiki page's content here </div> You can refer to https://www.w3schools.com/cssref/default.asp for some of the things you can use. The CSS background and color fields should do the trick.

SE's official site has a lot of the game-related information here: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/playguide/contentsguide/worldvisit/ Aside from those, the social aspects are where I'd really make the call. Make the server you have the most friends/activity on your home server. Granted, while still figuring all of that out, poke around with the options you have! If you've already got a group of friends somewhere, or if there's a group/fc/ls that you've got interest in, I'd start there!

Basically just Free Company/House options, in my opinion. There are a host of FC-related gameplay features that you'd only be able to use on your home server. And it can be kinda nice to hang out in FC chat with friends/etc, whether for RP or not. If you make a character on a preferred world, you will get an exp boost, but it also locks your ability to transfer (set a new home world) for 90 days. While unlikely, SE does occasionally adjust congested server status. (But exp anywhere should be pretty good these days, as it has gotten increased. Best combined with main story quests and the exp accessories, if you have them.)

Any time! If you run into a snag, feel free to PM and I can take a look. I try to check over wiki pages here and there to fix any errors I find template-wise.

I'd...definitely recommend a computer for wiki edits. It's not a particularly mobile-friendly experience, I'm afraid. (You certainly can, but I wouldn't, as the code blocks will eat up a lot of space and make it harder to see things). My general process for a new wiki page goes like this: 1. Find a template you like, unless planning to make your own, copy the text from it's template piece. 2. Create the new wiki page (search for the name, it should be red if nothing found). - I recommend keeping things in the main workspace, which is default, so linking from other wiki pages is easy. 3. Copy the full template text to the new page. Save it just like that. From there, you should see the basic template and you can more easily edit by section. I'm familiar with that template and know the person who made it, so I can usually help debug any glitches pretty quickly!

Yeah! It's pretty handy. Home world only: Join a free company Join a not-cross-world linkshell Access/Hire a retainer FC buffs Put items for sale (because retainers) Gather from certain timed nodes (iirc. ...this might not actually be the case anymore) Buy a FC or Personal house World-visit friendly: Visit any map on that server trade items with another player access housing buy items off the marketboard party up use the party finder access any other general content (parties, leves, hunts, etc) So your permanent residence does still matter, but largely not for walk-up RP or public events. But for a Free Company or Linkshell, then it matters a bit more unless they coordinate everything in a Cross-World linkshell. (Which you can now have 8 of, instead of 1 previously).

Also, because they're on the same data center, Crystal, you can make use of the World Visit function to just...go onto that server. This comes with a few limitations for things you can/can't do, like access your Mateus retainers/FC buffs/etc on Balmung (or elsewhere), but most social aspects work, like parties, cross-world linkshells, and you can enter housing/maps as normal. If you plan to join a Free Company or a local world's linkshell on Balmung, then you'd probably want to use that old character. But otherwise, you can freely hop between them.

This section's fine for wiki help. So! All the templates are generally a combination of wikicode and HTML. Wikicode itself is really just shortcuts for HTML. I wouldn't stick that in google docs, but a text editor you can save to copy/paste later is handy. (I prefer notepad++ with html syntax hilighting turned on, as it'll catch most of the fancier template stuff. The wiki editor does do hilighting too, but a bad pageload could mean you lose your work.) Making lots of small changes is better than making a large comprehensive change. (You can always ticket the minor changes box on/off as needed). You'll want to to copy the template code (many will have a spoiler box with a big text block to copy the template, and not the preview below). From there, it's a lot like filling out a worksheet. You can mostly just edit the placeholder text with what you'd like. I should note that some templates are harder/easier to get working the way you want them to. If there's one you're interested in, I can help you sift through the details and fix any errors it might have. Most...should be working as-is after our last big wiki upgrade.

Au ra were stated to living the same general hyur/lalafell/roegadyn/miqo'te average. Elezen have a -slight- increase of about 120% of the average (which is why they have a longer/delayed puberty in late teens). And then Viera are up there in the hundreds of years iirc.

FFXIV's chat system contains a few text modes. Most people operate out of /say and /emote (/em for short) for their RP, as a lot of spammers make use of the /yell (mid-ranged) and /shout (zone-wide) channels. Some players do still use those for public RP, however, so it's good to have them on a text log just in case. (But perhaps not the main ones you use for RP. The game allows up to 4 and you can customize them all, even ones with hardcoded name like battle). For the most part though, still to /say and /em for common stuff. I don't typically see *does action* because the /em handles this type of stuff. Some players also do or do not use quotes for all typed speech. (Out of character) or ((out of character)) are both common. So an an example, you could start a post like so: /s "Hello!" He waived over to the newcomer. /em waved over to the newcomer. "Hello!" These are largely inconsistently used, aside from maybe ERP, which is your standard "contains NSFW content of sexual nature, focussed on that content." Other common acronyms are "MRP" for "mature RP," but this can simply mean themes beyond a PG/PG-13 audience, violence, or any other 18+ adult themes. I haven't seen anyone use an acronym to denote a specific theme, outside of ERP. For many, their character search info in game will instead contain like a one-liner bio or hook for their character, and some may include "walkups welcome" or the like to denote that they're cool with open-world RP instead of more private channels like a linkshell or party. In an OOC sense, you'll want to get acquainted with the english class and job acronyms. The game will reference them as well in the UI, like on the character screen. These do change per language and are not universal. (But most players in the NA servers and most in the EU probably have the client in English and will know them). These include things like SAM for Samura, AST for Astrologian, ARC for Archer, ACN for Arcanist, etc. Gamerescape also had a good reference of common terms and how they may be used in FFXIV. https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Dictionary_of_Terms_and_Slang In terms of lore resources, there are a number of posts here on the RPC, but if you try getting to them from a search engine, you'll almost assuredly be given a link from out old site that was replaced early 2018. (Links were allowed until 2019 in a logged-out maintenance mode, and the server itself has now been decommissioned for general use as it's got security holes and cpu usage spikes galore). Many of those posts were written by Sounsyy, who keeps a lore archive over on tumblr. https://mirkemenagerie.tumblr.com/post/167534982764/mirkemenagerie-update A couple posts you may like to skim (the fomatting of these may not be great as these were converted from another forum software and are being migrated to tumblr when Sounsyy has time): - Units of Time and Measurement (Eorzea basically uses Imperial units, so if you're from the US, things should transfer easily). - What year is it in-game - Class and Job lore - Geography of Hydaelyn - Towns present in Eorzea - Political Structures in Eorzea

Hello! The RPC has no bearing on the official FFXIV servers. We're a player-run, player-maintained, and player-funded resource for roleplayers on FFXIV. Balmung is currently back to being marked as a congested world, which means character creation and character transfers in are restricted. Mateus on the other had has character creation restricted because it has a high number of consistently logged in characters, but as a standard world, should still allow paid transfers in, should you want it to be your homeworld. You can find the current status of a world on the lodestone. https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/worldstatus/ However! There are several options for RP! FFXIV has a World-Visit system in place that allows you to temporarily transfer your character to another world, as long as they share the same datacenter. You could make a character on another server in the Crystal datacenter (Brynhildr, Couerl, Diabolos, Goblin, Malboro, Zalera) and then world visit to Balmung or Mateus. There are some restrictions, mostly related to linkshells, free companies, and retainer access. Alternatively, there are budding RP communities on other worlds as well. Jenova and Hyperion have been working towards building sustainable RP on their worlds. The RPC's Clubs, Linkshell Hall, and Free Company Hall sections also has filters for not-Balmung/Mateus worlds to assist in finding groups on other servers.

[Art][Commissions] IndustryThirteen does FF14 ARR
Unnamed Mercenary replied to industrythirteen's topic in Artisan House
I ran through the image embeds and relinked them a bit. ...looks like when we migrated forum software in 2018, the converter didn't catch these correctly. The new site should handle this a little better, and you can use direct HTML in the editor. (Switching to source mode may be needed for more complex things).
