  1. I had the same feeling of slowness from my caution with the pulls as well. I haven't done Keeper yet (time constraints), but I honestly thought AK had better chain/lump pulls than WP... especially with those vines adding vulnerability to the mobs. WP felt like too many closed doors in the way... I dunno. Plus, the pulls with the standards... do the standards have to die to open the door, or can you just tug all the moving mobs to the end of the hall and aoe them down, thereby leaving the standards alive? Side note: Out of the two I have run... WP is snorefest boring to me. Even Sastasha HM is more exciting, imo.
  2. This pretty handily sums up my opinion on the matter. Taking my personal experience of learning multiplication (many many years ago).. as I recall, I learned to multiply by taking my knowledge of addition, and counting by the number. So... 6x4... I'd either count by 6's or 4's until I got my answer. 4 8 12 16 20 24 or 6 12 18 24 Granted, over time, I'd memorized everything up to 12x12, but not by looking at a chart. I did it by doing the problems. Except for 9s. 9s, I taught myself a trick that, at that time, made it faster and easier for me. The trick was to take whatever other number 9 was being multiplied with, take 1 away from it, then add it up to 9 again. So.. 9 x 7 Take 1 from 7 = 6 6 + ? = 9 3 My answer is 63. Was that 9 trick taught in my classes? No. Is it the correct answer? Yes. The biggest issue to me is forcing students (and teachers) to look at problems this way as the only way. As long as the student is capable of getting the correct answer and, if necessary, show their work and that works makes sense... then back off and let the student do their thing. ---------------- As to the actual name of the thread... parents that do not discipline their children... at all.... *adds wood to the fire*
  3. I'm pulling threat in sword oath with my riot blade rotation. Clearly I am doing something wrong. Especially with my lack of any poetics gear and my three stat Novus weapons. When you have better gear than me, want to main tank, and charge ahead of the entire group before buffs are ready... Please hold threat off of me. I'm already holding off on my rage of halone combo (and spirits within and circle of scorn and fight or flight...) to allow you to be the big bad tank you so desire to be... Do the damned job. Light farming really brings the worst out of me......
  4. Currently, we don't have any limitations on the class/job (or level) of people we invite. I don't imagine we will in the future, either. I'll happily invite interested people next time I'm online (off to work I go >.<). Also, updated the linkshell leader list to include some alts. Will likely promote other members to leaders in the near future just to ensure we have some people online at all times that are capable of inviting.
  5. I'd say the majority of the current members operate within the Central Timezone (US). Generally from around 4-10PM on weekdays, nearly all day on weekends. However, I've seen a few members on during other times as well. Plus, as we grow, we may cover a larger time span.
  6. Insert post about roleplayers doing their part by afking after making their characters /doze in personal rooms/houses or company houses. After all, they're just staying IC that way, right?
  7. Sitting around that 1000 light mark as well. Have my 4 bombard cores already waiting... As well as my wallet. Actually have two spare atmas just from doing the fates in the daily hunts. Sure as hell not doing the grind purposefully again, though. Maybe if I end up with at least 9/12 I'll consider it... But once was enough hell for me... Though, honestly imo... The animus books are more annoying than the atmas... Simply because with the atmas I was at least moving around from fate to fate... With the animus I was sitting in one places for sometimes hours on end waiting for a specific fate to spawn... That was far more boring to me, even with YouTube or hearthstone on my other monitor.
  8. Same story for me this morning (hell, may have even been the same run). Finally decided to be ballsy enough to pug Garuda EX and get the crap out of my quest log. I go in as NIN because, while I understand the mechanics of the fight, I feel more confident in other people's tanking ability. First thing I notice... I have at least 1k HP more than everyone else in the party, tanks included. Whatever, though... it's Garuda EX... should be easy enough as long as the tanks know what th... Dear god is the tank seriously tanking Garuda and having her face us?! Come to find out that the tank is new (not surprising) and speaks only German. Now, I don't mind if people don't speak English as their native, second, third, whatever language. In fact, if you don't know English at all, that's fine. However, there is not enough auto-translate function to explain a fight like Garuda EX to a new tank. Especially when that tank hasn't learned that the enemies, a large percentage of the time, need to face AWAY from the rest of the group... Add to that the fact that Garuda EX has been out a looooooooooooong ass time... there really isn't too much excuse anymore in not trying to find a video... or hell even a typed up guide... that explains the fight. Maybe I'm an asshole in expecting such things from people... I dunno...
  9. Hello there! As per usual I would point you to the linkshell hall here if you haven't already taken a look through the options there. As a shameless personal plug, Path of Oschon is open for recruitment as both an RP and PvE company. We're still building up that 8-man group to tackle content, but it's getting closer every day. Many of us are over-geared as well and have yet to clear T5 for much the same reasoning as you. If you're interested, check out our site. Good luck in your search!
  10. It's been quite some time since I've had a group wipe on Ifrit HM... Has the almost refreshing scent of pinesol and puke... >.<
  11. Oh Syrcus Tower... the place where I allow the other tanks to fight over aggro while I sit in Sword Oath on the bosses.... and still grab hate off of them... and then they proceed to bitch at me for tanking off of them... Oh Syrcus Tower... the place where the lazies and bads congregate and proceed to blame other people for their faults. [6:55](REDACTED) ofcourse randal would stand in a spot where its not safe lol [6:56](Raandal Bennett) >.> [6:56](Raandal Bennett) It's my fault you didn't move into the imperium? [6:56](REDACTED) i used warp thought you were smart enough to stand in it [6:56](REDACTED) tankh [6:57](REDACTED) tanks that don't avoid AoEs are lame [6:57](Raandal Bennett) I did avoid aoe [6:57](Raandal Bennett) You stayed in one spot. [6:57](Raandal Bennett) So, again, it's my fault you didn't move into the imperium? Since, apparently it's my job to reach through the internet and use their keyboard to move their character for them. Oh Syrcus Tower... the place where instead of answering a question and taking fault for your own issues one resorts to baseless claims and instantly leaving... [6:57](REDACTED) its you fault you scuk at keeping Hate in Group Mobs [6:58](REDACTED) 1st pull i snatched hate oof in 1 atk He likely "snatched hate oof" when I died due to my healers taking a nap or something. Meh, c'est la vie. Also... not that I'm by any means a master of BLM ways... but dear god the number of BLMs that just spam blizzard and NEVER use a fire spell... let alone Flare during aoe trash pulls.... makes angels cry.
  12. Raandal was once Sultansworn and, as such, a paladin... but left the file a while back because reasons. So, he has the training of a paladin but doesn't really consider himself one anymore. So... jury's out on that ruling. Otherwise, the majority of my characters are the classes, if even more than just a "civilian".
  13. ((Per Ruru's request. No, I'm not editing it, so there. )) [18:32]Rurutani Sasatani looked at Andralyn Thatcher and grinned. "Been a while stranger." [18:32]Johnathan Winters eyes the lalafell. "Mm..." [18:33]Andralyn Thatcher turns to the voice, "Ah, so it has." She eyes the lalafell a moment, "Time seems to have had some effect on you, hm?" [18:35]Rurutani Sasatani: "So it has....you look the same beauty as ever Grace. Mind if I take a seat? I have some business to discuss." [18:35]Johnathan Winters perks a brow, falling silent and sitting back once more. [18:35]Andralyn Thatcher lofts a brow, "Business, hm? Looking for love? Perhaps someone to warm your bed for the moment?" She motions to the open seats. [18:37]Rurutani Sasatani chuckled and shook his head. "I wish it were, gods know it's been too long since I've lain with anyone. No...this is regarding a mutual friend of ours....who's come back." [18:38]Andralyn Thatcher sits back in her chair, shifting to face the lalafell, "Oh? " [18:39]Rurutani Sasatani furrowed his brow as he thought and then lowered his voice, leaning in. "It's Kink. Zhi. She's back. Hells know where she's been but she's back." [18:40]Johnathan Winters rolls his eyes and grunts, muttering, "Wonderful..." [18:41]Andralyn Thatcher nods, "Mm. I'm happy to hear she lives, but my business with her has been wrapped up for quite some time." [18:42]Rurutani Sasatani: "Aye....true. But she....well I'm here on her behalf. She's not exactly her old self. And she needs..." [18:42]Rurutani Sasatani coughed [18:42]Rurutani Sasatani: "...help." [18:42]Andralyn Thatcher lofts a brow, her head canting slightly, "Mmhmm. Of what sort?" [18:43]Johnathan Winters glances toward Andralyn a moment, then back to Ruru. [18:44]Rurutani Sasatani folded his hands and spoke. "The financial type. Seems she's got something up her sleeve, but she's got nothing on her.....and I'm in no shape to cover her. Of course we'd...she'd....pay you back." [18:46]Andralyn Thatcher smiles politely, "Surely you can understand the need to know where my money is going and more importantly -why- my money would be going there. I'm afraid I need much more information." [18:46]Johnathan Winters blinks and looks back to Andralyn, "Surely you can't honestly be considering this, Grace. Offering money to the runner that, quite honestly, proved no more useful than a simple stroll down the streets..." [18:47]Johnathan Winters glances back to Ruru, "Nevermind the fact that she's not here in person to beg on her own behalf." [18:48]Rurutani Sasatani shot a glare at Johnathan Winters before looking back to Andralyn. "I understand....and I will get the information you need. Just....tell me that there's a possibility of your assistance....that's all I need at this point." [18:49]Johnathan Winters tilted his head at the glare, offering his own with a sly grin. [18:50]Andralyn Thatcher smiles, "Following the gaze to Johnathan and back to Ruru, "There's possibilty that I do any number of things, friend should they be in my favor. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to speak anything more at this point." [18:50]Johnathan Winters: "Or you could simply say no and leave trouble where it lay." [18:50]Johnathan Winters: "Let the runner rot in her ditch, Grace." [18:51]Andralyn Thatcher offers John a smile, "No worries, love." [18:51]Johnathan Winters: "Yeah, plenty of worries. You don't need to get roped in with this tuco shit again." [18:51]Rurutani Sasatani nodded again. "Fair enough." He closed his eye at the comment and then took a deep breath before smiling and opening his eye again. "I will meet with you again once I have the information. Thank you. I appreciate it." [18:52]Andralyn Thatcher: "I would suggest that she meet with me also." [18:53]Rurutani Sasatani: "Aye....seems it would be beneficial. Now if you please...I must excuse myself. The tuco shit awaits my return." [18:54]Johnathan Winters grins tauntingly at Rurutani Sasatani. [18:54]Rurutani Sasatani fixed a hard glare to Johnathan and smiled. "She's wanted.....didn't want the heat on Grace here." [18:54]Johnathan Winters: "The heat is welcome to come play." [18:55]Andralyn Thatcher offers a small thoughtful noise as she looks between the two. [18:55]Rurutani Sasatani: "So you say. Pleasure as always Grace....until next time." [18:55]Andralyn Thatcher: "Fair winds." [18:55]Johnathan Winters tilts his head in thought, "Good idea, though. I could tell said 'heat' about you and her..." [18:55]Johnathan Winters shrugs, "Settles my worries."
  14. Welcome to our newest members: A'toli Phen and Tricky J'vicho! Our doors are still very much open for more members. Come join the madness! In-company events planned and a "server-wide" event in the works. Take a gander over at our site: pathoschon.enjin.com
  15. My apologies if such a discussion already exists within these forums somewhere, but this has been something plaguing my mind and I'm curious to see people's thoughts. Now, before we get into this, please note that it is my intention to hold a discussion, not start a flame or pissing war. As such, please keep posts constructive and on point, rather than diving into personal attacks. Surfing through these forums lately, a lot of posts have come up regarding different issues within the game world. Dragoon's jumping, contraceptives, healing, strength of a lalafell and a number of other things. Within these threads, a common answer continues to pop up: aether. Now, I understand aether is like the life stream, it's naturally in (pretty much) everyone and everything. It is a source of power for many of our character's abilities and attributes. ... but when is enough, enough? Often times, when discussing the issues mentioned above, the answer "because aether" is often brought up. This, to me, often seems like a cop out and is liken to saying "because magic." Along with this argument, a quick accompaniment of "the lore doesn't explicitly say xyz, so it works!" pops up. Where is the limit? When do we say that, even though the lore says nothing for or against the topic, aether really isn't a good explanation? If Bob McBobberson says that he's capable of spinning indefinately through the air in a kicking fashion (Ryu from street fighter) through the use of his aether do we have to accept that since, to my knowledge, there's nothing in lore stating that he can't? And if so, since there's nothing in lore stating I can't, can I then turn around and say my character is capable of cloning himself through the use of aether and instantaneously tranfering his entire being to a clone the instant he dies? Lore doesn't say I can't... so maybe I can? This is the problem we run into. Often times I see people argue "because aether" to explain a reason their character is capable of doing something, but aren't willing to put a limit on it. Or they're not willing to accept another person's "because aether" for their own character. Or, often times, the whole realism vs. fantasy (because aether) argument gets thrown around. Where's the line? How much aether does it take to do such things? How much aether is a person capable of holding/controlling/storing? Does it differ between the races? Where do we draw the line between "because aether" and realism?
  16. I have to say I've run into the same issue as the OP. During our company's hiatus, I made an alt and joined another company. This company is bustling with all sorts of characters that are all wonderful to role play with... but it still feels very clique-y despite my best efforts to become part of the crowd. This is by no means meant to be an attack on that company or its members, but time zone difference means little when even the people that are on while I am on and actively attempting to be an accepted member still seem to prefer their little cliques. Cliques are an unfortunately natural thing that are hard to avoid forming. Even my company can probably feel clique-y at times despite our best efforts to go out of our ways to rp with and involve every last member. Another unfortunate truth is that these cliques aren't limited to free companies. "City-wide" cliques are a reality in this community as well. There is an in crowd in each city state that is fairly difficult to get accepted into, despite the friendly attempts made by the members of that clique. Again, not a statement against any members of the community, just a statement of my observations. It is, of course, on the outsider to put in a fair attempt as well. You only get out of rp and communities as much as you are willing to put in. As to your issue with your FC, speaking to leaders is indeed a good idea to attempt to see what can be done. However, I wouldn't recommend going into the conversation expecting the leaders to be willing to rearrange the entire company schedule to accommodate you. Put bluntly, without trying to be rude, if you join a company knowing full well that their timezones don't match up with yours... you have little room to complain. (Please note that is a general "you", not speaking to any specific person.) It would be rather nice for the company to accommodate you, but unrealistic and unfair to expect them to. Edit: side note: autocorrect on a phone can be very annoying when typing a post of this size.
  17. I'd argue for the ability to lurk in the shadows exceedingly well as opposed to flat out invisibility. Or even the capability to blend in with the crowd like in Assassin's Creed as was mentioned. I'd be willing to accept the aetheric bending of light to a degree, so long as they agree to pretty much what was mentioned... that even the slightest disturbance would make it go away. In other words, no mystical voices on the wind or ability to stab or attack WHILE invisible. Moving, speaking or any other shock, as was said, would instantly drop the aetheric control, imo. I, unfortunately, have already run into some RP where the people in question were in a fairly obvious position when they were stealthed and then acted as a voice on the wind. For the sake of continuing on with the RP, I shrugged it off... but in a combat situation... I wouldn't let that fly. A rogue/ninja needs to be in the shadows, behind crates or other covering, or be entirely focused on controling their aetheric invisibility, imo. Otherwise it becomes a bit too unfair to their victims.
  18. I certainly hope my post didn't come off as an attempt to stifle any other ideas or claim that my idea is the right way and everyone else is wrong. My intention was simply to give an idea... one that I personally use since there is an unfortunately severe lack of miqo'te lore in that regard. The clans splitting off and settling where ever the grass is greener is just as fine an idea as any, imo. And may very well be the case.
  19. At one time, I had Raandal's room as the captain's quarters of the company ship. Even had a pillar in the center of it as the device running down from the wheel to the rutter (name escapes me at the moment >.<). As our company has moved away from the sailing theme, the ship is gone and I've converted the room back into a personal room for he and his wife.
  20. To add to the debate of the need for realism... As has been stated multiple times by now, the jump abilities canonically are used to slay large flying enemies, namely dragons and their kin. To turn around and apply that jump attack to a ground target, while not impossible to score a hit, seems very unlikely. To make it even plausible they would have to be able to jump nearly non-stop without tire, which would make Warren's argument of "why walk" all the more real... or travel at Flash-like speeds. Otherwise, why would a combatant use an ability that can be seen coming from a mile away -AND- tires them out? It'll be easily dodged/blocked and leave the dragoon with less energy, aetheric or physical, to carry on with the fight. To add another twist to the whole "people throw fireballs, heal others magically, etc." argument. My paladin throws his shield as an opener to ge initial threat on a target. Do I apply that particular move to my RP fights? Short of an act of desperation... I sincerely doubt my, or any other player's, paladin (or warrior with their axe) would realistically throw their shield in battle. It would handicap them. Unless, of course, you're going to argue that it's a magical aetheric shield... and/or it magically reappears on their arm. Some abilities just need to be ignored for believability's sake. ------ As to the original post, as has been stated multiple times, it's just a matter of numerous other dragoons being bad. Claiming to be the (or an) azure dragoon, being outside of Ishgarde just because they feel like it, etc. are all frowned upon. And, unfortunately, the server has been fairly saturated by several of those types. Just follow the myriad of hints and suggestions offered in this thread and you should be fine.
  21. I've personally stuck to the idea that the tribes "settle" near where their particular animal exists. And this is somewhat shown in game, though not explicitly stated, by the U tribe. The U tribe is the drake tribe... they "settled" in Thanalan where a large number of drakes exist. To go a little deeper, the C tribe is the couerl tribe (and a character of mine is from that tribe), so I imagine they're "settled" around La Noscea, mostly in the upper and outer regions. Applying this logic to the antelope tribe, the Shroud comes to mind... namely the southern bit of it. Again, not explicitly stated in lore... but it makes sense to me.
  22. Noted and thank you. Should any spots open up on your list and you want in, just give us a tell. Can't say that I did. That one slipped past me. But, like you said, always room for more. And perhaps we can look into aiding each other if/when needed.
